Popped in for a coffee and breakfast. The cutlery was dirty and when we pointed this out the male server just stroppily snatched it off us - no words of apology. Things didn't really improve after that - the seat on my chair was collapsed and uncomfy (had to swap it) , the table was wonky and the milk jug had a chip out of it. (We were too scared to mention any of that). Food was okay though - just staff attitude spoilt it

We had a gathering here recently and found the staff rude, it was as if they had better things to do instead of work clearly came across unhappy in their job role. Started clearing away half hour before we was due to leave but we had gathered majority of the dishes. Food was average as no meat sandwich were offered just egg, cheese spread and salmon. Normally you would be offered nice cured ham, chicken or beef but this tea was very mediocre and you was only allowed 1 cup of hot beverages each. . Wouldn’t recommend for tea

We came across Cafe Rust for Breakfast on a wet Saturday morning we were greeted by such a friendly gentleman who could not have been more helpful. The atmosphere was so charming and full of rustic character . We ordered breakfast and all wanted things added or taken away and nothing was too much trouble for them. The ingredients that they use were amazing I’ve never seen such big mushrooms and the sausages were not fatty and very big. A massive shout out for this lovely little cafe and thank you for a lovely breakfast experience. When we are back in Brighton we will definitely be back.

Excellent service - the service was actually the best part od this experience. The interior is very simple, quite dark, seating not terribly comfortable. Most Importantly, the food was OK. Definitely not the best, but also not the worst. Very nice hollandaise, avoid the extra mushrooms (it is literally two large mushrooms steamed, no seasoning, nothing). Overall decent experience, but unlikely to be coming back.

An odd, disappointing experience. I've been here in the past and always enjoyed the food. The café was less than half full (on a Saturday morn around 10) but we were seated rather than chose our own place. It's a café not a restaurant ...isn't it? Some staff were lovely but the manger I found a little false and slightly stressed. As a vegan (sorry in advance) there wasn't much on the menu so I opted for the poached eggs (mainly vegan- sometimes cheat if the options aren't great). They were undercooked and glupey in the yolk so I gave them to my dog. I'm not a complainer. My other half had the full vegan brekkie which looked ok. When I came to pay, the manager asked me if I wanted to press the tip button and with a bill of almost 35 quid (I thought it was a café not a restaurant) I politely declined. I won't be visiting again. Oh and its on one of the most filthy horrible roads in Brighton which doesn't help. Beam me up Scotty.

Preston Road, Brighton—between Preston Circus and the railway viaduct—can not claim to be the prettiest part of Brighton. Nor is it the busiest, nor the most hip and happening. Preston Road is not really a place you go to; it’s a place you pass through being, that it is, the main thoroughfare north out of the city. Yet Café Rust is pretty. It is busy. It is hip and happening and you’ll often find it a challenge to get a table at peak times. That said, there’s a garden at the back and tables out the front in addition to the inside space. And the friendly staff will always do their best to accommodate you. In fact, Café Rust is a little gem and I’ve not even mentioned the coffee yet! It must’ve been about five or six years ago that I first visited Café Rust having walked past it many times. In fact I’d previously looked in and dismissed it without trying it. And that was a mistake. After visiting for the first time I found that the coffee, the food, the cakes were all excellent. In fact the Carrot Cake, which is the yardstick by which to measure the quality of any cafe, was delicious, and not dry like many others are. Naomi said it was the first time she’d made Carrot Cake. She got it absolutely spot on! And ever since then I’ve been a regular visitor, sometimes daily, drawn not only by the feel of the place but by the most excellent and consistent coffee that you’re able to find anywhere in Brighton. You must try the Rust breakfast. The food created by Anna and her team in the kitchen is truly impressive and very tasty. If you want to impress your friends, bring them to Café Rust. If you’re a discerning customer and want first class coffee, come to Café Rust. If you find yourself on Preston Road, Brighton, pop in to Café Rust. And if none of these apply, just make a special visit. It’s well worth it.

The team from Cafe Rust (Barbaros, Ciaran and Roxanne) managed to pull together an unforgettable last-minute dinner for a group of sixteen people. It truly couldn't have been better. Though it wasn't at the cafe itself, they curated a flawless plant-based menu made up of seven dishes and served it at a private venue near Brighton. The service was professional whilst being friendly and personable, they were a pleasure to work with and the whole thing went off without a hitch. Cost-wise it was well worth what we paid and considering how last-minute it was (we had a caterer drop out with about a week to go!) it's pretty unbelievable that we ended up with something so perfect. Can't wait to visit the restaurant itself but based off this experience, I have no doubt that it'll be fantastic.

Firstly, it is one of my fav brunch cafes in Brighton, staff is always nice and accommodating and food is really high quality. However, it has been 3 occasions where kitchen shuts earlier. Within last 2 months. I usually come after 2pm because of nature of my work but also because there are higher chances to have a table and it is quieter. I would like to bring it to the attention of management if possible to keep the kitchen hours stable? Or maybe you could change the opening hours officially to 2.30pm? Those 3 occasions when the kitchen shut earlier meant i was unable to eat elsewhere as most of the place shut at 3pm. Thanks,

I had a great experience, me and a couple of friends came here for drinks as it was 2 for £10 we had the strawberry and peach cocktails which were amazing. The staff were super friendly with a special shout out to our great server tulip and her manager whom treated us with care!! I will definitely be coming back for food as it looks amazing and would recommend visiting this hidden jem in central Brighton!!

Love, love, love The Yellow Book. Friendly and fun staff and great Bloody Marys on a Sunday. A lovely place for a drink and a hang out.

I have been in Hove for a few years now, and I have never stumbled across such a lovely gem of a cafe as this! Leah is thoughtful and kind and provides outstanding service, delicious coffee and tasty treats. Best of all, this is a local community run cafe. Rocky road is the best I've tasted. 👌

Lovely Brewery especially the outdoor space is nice and pleasant. The beer Joosy is a tasty hazy beer I’d recommend.

As newly weds we wanted to do a couple of nights away after the wedding with our pooch. It’s always tricky finding gorgeous places to stay with a dog but Artist Residence now tops our list. They took time to ask about what our dog needed which was so thoughtful. We stayed in the balcony apartment which provided us a little more space and is next door to the main hotel entrance. The views and interior were stunning, the whole history behind the start up of the brand and the artwork vibe is right up our street. Small details are gorgeous, they really know how to decorate a room with the right palettes and soft furnishing brands. I was in my element looking at everything. The shower was fab and the bath in the bedroom was fancy. Even the dressing gowns made it that more special and lux - it’s the kind of thing you only expect from a super shiny hotel. Bed was divine and really comfortable, the type you sink into any get lost in. We loved the mid century feel and furniture choices! Staff were friendly and approachable always checking if things were okay which they were. Breakfast was yummy, could have eaten a bigger portion easily. There are lots of food options local and we ordered in pizza and people watched from the balcony. We’ve already got plans to check out the other locations and can’t wait to be back in those surroundings. We’d book again in a heartbeat, it’s 5-stars from us. Thanks for a lovely stay.
