Cafe Rouge Cheltenham in Cheltenham

Made the error of dining out in Cheltenham during race week. Cafe full downstairs so shipped upstairs where there was plenty of room.Orders were taken quickly as there weren't many people there. However service dropped off once the room was half full. It was also very noisy with 20 something years old males shouting and laughing which the staff did nothing to stop.The food arrived in standard time and on the whole was good.Took a while to get desserts ordered but again they came out as normal.The food was nothing to shout about but was what it was.The cost for 3 mains and desserts came to more than £70 which was a tad on the high side for what we received.

My Partner and our son visited here today to have a meal. We ordered two Steaks with Fries and a salmon fish cake with fries. We were asked if we had any allergies to which we replied my Partner had one to any Black Pepper. The waitress said she would check with the kitchen and advise us. Some 20 minutes later she returned with the meals, but then advising my partner that she wasn’t having fries as they contained Black Pepper. We were amazed that she or anyone else had not advised her before in order that she could choose an alternative meal, I also advised her that we wouldn’t be paying for the meal. However she ordered an Omelette with ham and mushroom which by the time that arrived we had finished our meals. Also the omelette was like an oil slick, ie very greasy. Although we had a refund on her meals the whole experience was very poor including the service I am afraid, as the waitress was quite rude because I complained and expensive for what it was. So no we won’t be going back. Also I noted on a blackboard that a bottle of french wine normally around £6-£7 was being sold for £27.99. Says it all really!

I was visiting friends at the weekend and we had lunch at Cafe Rouge. We were served by Sacha. Her welcoming friendly nature was so nice and even discussed around our table. Upon taking the order, the question about allergies was a real welcome. It is so important now a days. Her attention to detail was second to none. She also had recommendations on wine and dishes. I came here a few years go and I have to say it has improved 100%. Can't wait to be visiting again, I'll be back. Thank you Sacha and Cafe rouge!!

We arrived late in the evening, no reservation, but received a warm welcome, A lovely glass of wine and a delicious supper soon followed. Great staff, great food.

We were served by Florin, who was helpful and attentive. Advised us to have the mini doughnuts and we had 6 rather than 5 so we could share between the 3 of us!

Had a Saturday evening dinner here. Waitress very helpful and attentive. Food was ok but the restaurant is very tired and scruffy in places. Brasserie Blanc and Cote far better. Perhaps it's time to put it out of it's misery and replace it with a fresher high street dining concept.

Haven't been for quite a while and so was very pleasantly surprised by the excellent service. The food has always been good but we stopped going because the service was bad. Now that's been sorted we'll be happy to go again.

Thought we would try this as we had a voucher. A lovely relaxing venue with friendly staff and good quality food. The mussels were amazing, however it seemed strange to serve with chips. Bread would have been much better. Also had to ask for a spoon which made eating the meal much easier. Choice of beer and cider was limited but good selection of wines. Good value if you take up one of their deals, not sure if I would want to pay full price but would still recommend.

Arrived two hours early for our table on a Thursday, no problem! Staff were professional, friendly and helpful. Food was delicious and coeliac's are looked after here. Chef would not serve me chips in case of cross-contamination and provided excellent salad alternative. Both meals, minute stake and beef bourguignon were excellent.Lemon cheescake to follow was delicious.

Random Monday night outing - very nice, staff pleasant, just lacked a bit of atmosphere and the plate could have been hot

Sasha and her staff are a credit to Café Rouge. Lovely atmosphere with a superb pianist, a lovely warm welcome and great food.Made even more special with the 50 per cent off mains. Lovely place, would highly recommend.

Staff very nice, but afternoon tea the worst I have ever eaten. Mushroom croque soggy and cold. 2 scones with one small pot of jam. Not worth the price will never return.

Nos llevaron a nuestra mesa rápidamente, habíamos reservado antes, sin embargo, el personal tardó un tiempo en tomar un pedido de bebidas. También descubrí que no había muchas opciones en el menú para platos "sin hongos". Múltiples platos los tenían adentro. ¡Soy un enemigo de los hongos! Un camarero parecía muy apurado y casi parecía frustrado cuando llamé su atención para pedir nuestra comida. Una vez ordenado, nuestra comida salió a tiempo, sin embargo, era muy básica, comida normal. Tuve el pescado y las patatas fritas, tal vez no su especialidad (sin plato de hongos). This is the one and only place I can guarantee a fabulous croque-Monsieur! Great coffee, good service.

After seeing the new film of Little Women we came here for a quick meal. Unfortunately they’d had a really busy afternoon so the staff looked exhausted and service was slow. A demanding table nearby didn’t help. Nevertheless we had a nice meal - beef bourgignone and salmon which was more than sufficient.

Surely, surely, surely, when it is no longer a closely guarded secret that too much salt is unhealthy, why would a restaurant serve fries so overloaded with salt as to make them inedible? Why would the waitress treat it as a joke? Why, even though she said there had been many complaints, had nothing been altered? And why was no replacement offered or even an apology given. Awful and totally unacceptable.

It was an awful experience, we had a voucher for the offer in the burgers but the women wouldn't accept it. The service was awful and the women serving was very rude. Burgers were worse than spoons which is saying something and the stella (only beer on tap) tasted like vinegar. Would never go there again. Horrifc

Dreadful food, dreadful service.

As always, it was busy lunchtime scene but the Manager ADINA was very welcoming and was able to find us a table. We were sitting in a position where we could see how patient she was when it became even busier-aiming to accommodate as many as she could and encouragingly advising others should they care to return a little later.

Long wait for table despite restaurant being empty. Served two small breakfasts after ordering large breakfasts. Food was cold and clearly comprised leftovers. Americano coffee was tepid. Extortionate £2.85 for glass of carton orange juice. A badly organised rip-off which we will not repeat in future. This chain has gone downhill.

Pre theatre booked lunch visit. Table close to door not best situated - other customers not capable of closing door behind them, causing draughts. Waitress attempted to charge for non existent drinks and also overcharged on food (set menu). Portions were of good size and food served hot, which was a bonus. Very busy, popular location - booking advised, but check your change!

We have been lucky enough to visit the UK for your thanksgiving and we found this pretty restaurant. Everything seemed great. But the attitude of one of the staff there was shocking. We never got to find out but he had grey hair and looked a little older than the other staff. Rude and Arrogant to my wife especially. We will never return . That guy whoever he was needs a life change. thats how we say it in the USA. Disgraceful

Christmas lunch was superb and the staff were beyond helpful, would highly recommend a visit and wouldn’t hesitate to book again next year.

Sadly I had to give it 1 star when in fact I wanted to give it nothing. Christmas lunch! Disgraceful. In spite of 2 emails (neither of which received a response) and finally a phone call to the chef to explain my dietary needs because of Crohns disease my meal when it arrived bore no relation to what was ordered. It consisted of a piece of salmon and some random sliced potatoes, nothing else. My husband kindly shared some of his meal with me. When I pointed the discrepancy out to the male waiter he just walked away. Needless to say when it came to pay the bill I wasn't charged for my meal. . Even so £48 for 1 main, 1 soup a glass of prosecco and a tomato juice was pretty steep. Will never set foot in this place again.

We are fans of Cafe Rouge - it is a luxury to have coffee with table service instead of queueing at a counter, and the coffee at Cafe Rouge is exceptionally good. We have visited a number of branches and are regular weekend customers in Cheltenham and Worcester, usually for coffee and croissants. The service is generally efficient and friendly, and the food and coffee excellent, and we have enjoyed many visits here,

We had a 3 course evening meal here on a voucher.

My family and I usually enjoy going to different Cafe Rouge around England, but this would be the worst by far!

Went recently for work Xmas dinner, we were a big group of 30, there were other big groups in that night too. The place was packed! The food came out hot and tasted good, which is not easy when catering for so many and the staff were really friendly and accommodating, even when run off their feet! They did a much better job that other (much more expensive) restaurants we’ve been to in the past and the food was better. Really nice Christmassy feeling in there too, I’d definitely recommend it to anyone organising a party for a big group, they can handle it! We all had a great time.

26 of us dined here for our works Christmas party and we all loved it.

Lunch here today. Beautiful building and lovely colleagues. Sacha was our waitress and didn’t put a foot wrong. Food was nice however the croque spec has changed since I last had one, which would be a long time ago, much smaller now. However the food was still very nice and the ambience was fab. Well worth a visit. Might be worth booking though as seemed very busy today.

A busy evening as the Christmas lights were being switched on. All the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful, even though trying to serve so many people. A special mention to Charlene who served us, went out of her way to accommodate our requests and was a pleasure to deal with. Also a mention to Sacha who manages to squeeze us in on such a busy evening. Lovely meal, good service, would definitely recommend

We picked Cafe Rouge for it’s convenient location, varied menu and friendly staff, especially Sasha the Manager.

Brought my mum for the new Snowman afternoon tea for her birthday and it was absolutely lovely! We were welcomed warmly and our waitress Sacha was so friendly and attentive. The food was excellent, especially the mushroom and goats cheese Croque Monssiour. Definitely recommend!

Visited Cafe Rouge last Wednesday with a friend and had a great experience, all the staff were very friendly and nothing was too much to ask.

From arriving, the staff were very helpful, Sacha was informed that we were using a Groupon Meal Deal and we were shown to our table and the correct 3 course Menu was given to us and it was explained that we could have anything on the menu, the items that had supplements would be applied to the end bill. All three courses were lovely. Sacha enjoyed some banter with our table. The service was good, the food was good. We also had another waitress who was also very helpful Charlene. The atmosphere was good and nothing was too much trouble. They made our experience a very good one and we will be returning again!!

Manager very friendly Katie our waitress had to deal with an awful customer who was swearing at her and being a total idiot it was a table of ten. Katie dealt with the situation amazingly well and even received an apology afterwards from the utter tool who was well out of order

I ordered food from this restaurant: the food was cold and part of the order did not arrive. I raised this issue and they denied it and even the manager (sasha) laughed in my face and said "not my problem".

Went to enquire about the price of coffee with a view to ordering coffee then lunch. Waited clearly between bar and entrance - completely ignored by the 2 staff. It e ot busy. Waitresses then served a man who came in after me and continued to ignore me (I must have been invisible!). Finally went virtually behind the bar to ask the barristta - he eventually turned to me and glared at me in a hostile manner. At this point I decided to leave and take my business elsewhere where I received exceptional survice.

Another lovely meanl at Cafe Rouge, Cheltenham and where we were looked after by Burcu. Her waiting service was very good and she ensured that we had our meal, well in time of our visit to the Everyman Theatre. Thank you Burcu 😀

We had a 40% off food voucher which encouraged us to visit for Sunday lunch. We were not offered a drink until the manager noticed us about ten minutes in and we had to wait again for our order to be taken. The food was very nice but we then sat staring at our dirty plates for at least another ten minutes until I insisted they were cleared. We decided to get the bill and leave. I was assured on three occasions by manager and waiter that the discount applied to all food but have now discovered on return home that we were overcharged by £8.90!

Service was exceptional, I felt we were being looked after from the outset. Sacha made sure everything was just right. I had the vegetable tangine and it was lovely. Loved the relaxed decor and especially loved the piano player. Could of easily have been in a little place in France!

I found for the price they charge I would expect a better meal than we had . the steak and chips my friend had had to be sent back as it was underdone. I too had steak and as a coeliac could not have there chips as not glutton free and was offered salad in place. Well the salad was what iI would describe as pathetic it came in what I can only describe as a little bucket with a couple of lettuce leaves and a couple pieces of radish. My wifes risoto was luke warm and looked like it ha been standing around for some time before being served. I would have complained there and then but we were with 2 american friends andd it would have been to embarrassing.

Last time I ate here (2 - 3 months ago) the food was awful and the service even worse. Today the food (fish and chips) was tasty, well cooked and looked appetising. The service was friendly, interested and cheerful. The place was busy (lunchtime) and had a great atmosphere.

We told Cafe Rouge it was our mother's birthday lunch and Sacha, our waitress, was so kind - treating Mum to a glass of wine and making sure we were sitting at a quiet table. Nothing was too much trouble and we really enjoyed our visit, thanks Sacha!

This restaurant chain is so consistently good in terms of the quality of the cuisine. We’ve enjoyed a lovely three course dinner.

I’m not sure if I’m becoming picky about the small things as I get older (35) or if I’m justified in my disappointment here but the feeling was felt across my group so surely it can’t just be me!

My husband and I enjoyed our first visit to cafe rouge! Can’t believe we haven’t been here before. Food was delicious, a Burcu was fantastic, very attentive! Would visit again.

We called into Cafe Rouge in Cheltenham for a pre-theatre meal early on a Saturday evening. We have dined here on many occasions and almost without exception, the food quality has been good. Tasty, fresh and hot.

A great meal and atmosphere coupled with a a very helpful and wonderful waitress called Burcu! Highly recommend.

I booked the room upstairs for a surprise party for my Dad. It was fantastic!! The food was delicious. Marcus helped massively with good suggestions for the room layout and timings and Charlene was great behind the bar and serving Prosecco to the guests on arrival. I cannot fault anything, it was seamless and everyone who came really enjoyed themselves. I fully recommend and I would definitely use them again.

We just had a dinner with my Parner and her friend. I just would like to mention that the food was good specially the duck but what makes our dinner more special that was the service what we got from Bucu (sorry if i spell wrong). She was amazing, really professional nothing more than what we need! Thanks for he!

Booked for an early dinner last night - not for the first time. The food was excellent, as usual and we were looked after extremely well by Sachs and Charlene.

We booked our table at 5pm on Saturday, and all started well. The restaurant was fairly empty and the waitress provided the menu and took our drinks order quickly. However, at 6pm, as we finished our mains, the place was full and the staff were struggling. People around us were waiting 1/2 hour plus for their drinks, starters were being provided without spoons (and quite a delay in getting one) and it tool 30 minutes for our plates to be cleared (only our plates - not the side dishes). By 6:45 we realised there was no chance of us ever getting asked if we wanted desert (I don't know when we would have got it, if we had ordered), so we paid and left. The food we had was okay, though the steak was a little tough for rib eye.

Six friends decided to try Cafe Rouge for a late lunch again as a couole of us had not been happy with recent visits there.

Thank you to Cafe Rouge Cheltenham for another lovely lunch. Special mention to our brilliant server Sacha who made a great food recommendation for the new burger. My husband loved it! The food, as always, was excellent. Look forward to seeing you again!

Nice clean and tidy restaurant. Early afternoon visit and the restaurant was fairly full. Despite that, our order was taken quickly. Food arrived in fairly quick time and was soon polished off by all. Dessert was equally nice.

Disregarding Manager's disagreement about Voucher, the smell of cigarette smoke wafting in from the back of the 'restaraunt' and some of the staff, the overall experience was so disappointing we merely paid for our drinks and left. To add to our woes, the garlic flat bread to enjoy 'whilst waiting' was cold - so sent back via apologetic staff. Replacement was microwaved (we felt) and so hard and lukewarm anyone with dentures would have had a problem. Sorry to say this as previous experiences have been good.

We had an evening meal at Cafe Rouge inn Cheltenham on Thursday night. They had a pianist playing when we for arrived which was a really nice touch.

1. Enjoyed my food because I was hungry. Although one egg was overcooked (therefore “boiled” not “poached”). But great coffee.

Visited here for lunch. Charlene gave us excellent service, as we have come to expect from this branch of Cafe Rouge. To top it off, Sacha the manager made my partner the best double espresso he has ever had. And all for a very reasonable price. We look forward to our next visit.

Came in for dinner last Saturday, the restaurant was busy and a great atmosphere! Piano was great, although a little loud. We were a table of four and had the most enjoyable evening, food was amazing and service was excellent. Sacha was our server and the Manager, she was so helpful and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. One of our party had some food allergies and as busy as Sacha was she took the time to help us through the menu and talking to the kitchen. We will be back, thank you Sacha and I hope you will be serving us next time

Had the unusual experience of going twice in a week, lunch and dinner, and can only say that the staff were lovely although under pressure, the food good, and atmosphere conducive to an enjoyable experience. I accidentally left my reading glasses on the table when I left, and Burcu, one of the staff team took the trouble to run out of the restaurant to stop me to return them, which was much appreciated!

We booked a table online for 4 people on Saturday at the Cafe Rouge in Cheltenham. There was an error with the booking system, and despite our email confirmation saying the reservation was for 4 people, the restaurant had it for 2 people. The lady that looked after us, Sacha, was so helpful and rearranged some tables of 2 to accommodate us. She was so friendly and kind, and the food was great. I'd definitely go back.

We came here for dinner on a Friday evening, and found a slightly tired looking restaurant which was hald empty. Despite that staff ignored us. We eventually got someone's attention and asked for a table for two. She started looking at a screen and would not make eye contact, we asked if we could sit at a table by the window. "Yeah whatever" was her response. We seated ourselves, she did not follow. We sat there for a further 20 minutes being completely ignored and weren't even given menus. We thought we had managed to get someone's attention, but then realised they were going to a nearby table who had apparently sent their food back again. Nobody even approached us when we got up and put our coats back on to leave. They weren't even busy, such poor service I wouldn't bother trying again.

Had a lovely meal on Friday night. Delicious duck and beef bourginion. Waiter called Florin was really helpful and friendly and made some great recommendations!

The food was delicious but the loud piano music was dreadful. Totally impossible to hold a conversation. Despite several requests For the volume to be turned down no notice was taken. Will not visit again on Thursday eveming

the service by Tabitha was excellent and friendly, Unfortunately the food was not good. the sauce for Moules marinieres was just white water, with none of the ingredients with which the dish is made, oinions, garlic, parsley, white wine. The fries were just warmed up soft and soggy.

Food was as always quite good. Sadly the restaurant has a slightly jaded and unkempt feel, which it has had for several years now,despite a slight make-over more recently. It's such a pity, because with a little more enthusiasm it could be a vibrant hub.

We went into cafe Rouge to have lunch, and decided on the baked salmon from the main menu. It was very tasty. The atmosphere in the cafe was very friendly and relaxed. Our waitress Burcu was so helpful, attentive and friendly. Really appreciated the way she took care of us, and other customers. Will be back next time were in Cheltenham.

Stopped in Cheltenham for a couple of days and we decided to have breakfast at Café Rouge. We enjoyed our first visit and went back the second day. The service was efficient and friendly, a nice breakfast menu was available. Plenty of options to choose from. We sat inside but in good weather you can also sit outside. We enjoyed our food both days. Everything was prepared fresh and tasted delicious. Nice coffee and teas as well. A nice e place to start the day.

We have been visiting Cheltenham and decided to end our holidays at Café Rouge. We had excellent service for our waitress Burcu. Very professional and very attentive service. Very good location and decoration. Hopefully we will be back soon! Thank you so much Burcu! You made our day!

Dined on Saturday evening, restaurant was very busy, Sacha looked after us and nothing was too much trouble! She looked after our every need, considering they were busy, Sacha 'was on the ball' order for drinks taken quickly, then the order for food, Smooth service throughout. Oh dear. Sadly, this was an unhappy experience. Our waitress was pleasant enough, but the restaurant was clearly unable to cope with the number of diners that showed up this evening. We were largely ignored. The Prosecco was virtually at room temperature, the coffee was only just warm, and the food was mediocre. We also spent a couple of hours swatting away flies from our table - admittedly not the fault of tonight’s waiting staff but nevertheless this did not enhance our experience! Shame, as we have enjoyed many a good meal here in the past. Needless to say, no tip!

Arrived and we received a friendly welcome by Sacha, Deputy Manager. She was welcoming and very attentive. She made us feel at ease and nothing was too much trouble. There was a discrepancy with the new menu eg duck with ana potatoes. We order led sobrasada flat bread with goats cheese and sun dried tomatoes, tasty but could not taste the sobrasada or even see it. New menu said dauphinois with french beans but the menu in the restaurant served the duck with spinach and Ana potatoes. My hubby had a tea spoon of spinach and Sacha rapidly ordered us some more House wine was delicious and we even got to taste both the white and red prior to ordering which was good Thank you Sacha for looking after us - we had a nice evening.

We have not been to Cafe Rouge for a number of years - this visit was a pre-theatre meal. We were greeted in a very friendly, efficient way and told the variations to the printed menu. Our choices arrived in good time and were very enjoyable. A very pleasant experience. Our waitress, Adina, was very attentive and thoughtful.
