Group of six of us visited here for breakfast on a Saturday morning. Staff were very accommodating and friendly fitting us in. Most of the group had a full English breakfast, and a couple of us had the Smashed Avocado, Poached Eggs & Crispy Bacon on Seeded Toast. Everyone of us thought it was superb, so much so that we returned on the Sunday for another breakfast. The decor was great too, loved all the American Football helmets on the ceiling. Would definitely be back next time we’re in Bristol.

The interior design and overall cafe decor is done with taste. It's very comfy and gives a very relaxing vibe so I totally recommend it if you want an eye pleasing cafe. The customer service is excellent, the waiter was very polite and knowledgeable about the menu and other outside the menu options. Thank you for the awesome service!! I think the only thing that was a let down is the desserts which seemed all ready made. I am talking only about the sweet stuff, I haven't had the savoury ones. Similarly, no fresh juices or anything like that. This is the reason I marked it a bit lower. If I get the chance to go back and have food I may change my rating.

4 of us wanted "afternoon tea" at short notice. Owner was very friendly, welcoming, and despite many of her cakes being sold out (assurance of quality and she bakes on the premises to serve freshly made cakes) she was able to rustle together assorted jam & cream scones, fresh strawberries & some slices of home made cake & tea in less than 10 minutes. Cosy welcoming atmosphere atmosphere, and like a taste of home on the ever changing Gloucester Road.

The food was slow to arrive but was good when it did. Drinks were good, particularly the spiced hot chocolate with ginger. The only worrying aspect is the lack of a food hygiene rating sticker and that when I searched for the business on the Food Standards Agency website, it isn't listed, which implies it hasn't been inspected by Environmental Health.

I dropped into Cafe Rhubarb looking for a good Fried Breakfast and i wasn't disappointed. The brekkie was fresh cooked with everything I'd expect in a Breakfast costing £7.35. There were a few issues that could be improved.Tables are on two levels. The top level where they do the cooking was nice and warm but there were only two tables and these were both taken. On the Ground Floor it was very cold and draughty and i kept my coat on. There didn't seem to be any disabled facilities on the ground floor, access to toilets was up a flight of stairs and they were a bit disappointing. There was no hot water and no towel, so Hygiene was an issue. However, the Food was fine and service friendly.Worth a try.

I popped in one afternoon just before 5pm. I hadn't eaten all day and was about to collapse! I ordered tea and a bacon sarnie and sat in the window watching the busy going ons of the Gloucester Road, whilst listening to the back and forth chat of cafe regulars.I was served a pot of tea (not just a cup) and the most enormous bacon buttie I have ever seen! I actually measured it and it was an inch and a half thick, in proper hand cut, doorstop, soft, white bread, stuffed with back bacon. During the wait I'd been having the age old debate with myself - ketchup or HP? This baby was so big that I did half and half. This was such a man sized sarnie that this little lady couldn't eat it all.Waitress serviced by the nicest of ladies - proprietress? I can see why there were regulars in there. There was something about her.., almost like a bar person, that you'd share your triumphs and woes with. She was at the counter, decorating what looked to be a home baked cake when I left.

Never underestimate the power of a seriously good short - order cook. Mandy's BIG breakfast is a joy - and you MUST leave room for a bit of home-made cake. The meat is from the butcher and the bread is from Joe's Bakery.Frankly I don't know why you'd bother going anywhere else.

Having eaten breakfasts in many cafe's on the Gloucester Road in Bristol, I had yet to find one that fully understood the meaning of 'gluten or wheat free' Some of them have never even heard of gluten but most of them, in fairness, allowed me to take a look at their ingredients to check, but, I was often left with a very limited selection and checking was quite tedious if not a little embarrassing. So, imagine my surprise and delight when on discovering the Cafe Rhubarb where I was offered just one item short of a 'full english' gluten free breakfast. The owner took great pride in obtaining fresh local ingredients and at the time of eating she was working with a local butcher to obtain some gluten free sausages to make up the full package. It was obvious she was well educated in all things gluten and wheat free. This is very reassuring if you are unfortunate enough to be intolerant to it.The food was served freshly cooked and was very tasty, it was apparent that good quality ingredients were used, no fatty stringy bacon or cheap 'trade' beans here and the tea was hot and flavoursome. The cutlery was very clean as were the tables chairs, floors, and kitchen area. The cafe has a relaxing atmosphere and is nicely decorated. The pricing was very competitive considering the quality of food, and the welcome and hospitality was warm and sincere. Not only breakfasts are on offer, the cafe has a good lunch menu too and also offers a very nice looking range of gluten and wheat free cakes. This is a relatively new business that the owner is obviously proud of, so who better to recommend it than local customers - and now being one of them I have no reservations at all.I will be back.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Cafe Rhubarb and found it a really great alternative to some of the cafés in that area. It made a nice change to see a cafe offering a quieter, welcoming adult orientated environment. The owner was extremely friendly and was forthcoming with the ethos of the business, it's impressive to see a business on the Gloucester Road catering for Coeliacs by offering gluten free alternatives. It can often be frustrating that many of the cafés on the Gloucester Road exclude people without small children whilst overcharging for small portions of average food. I will certainly be visiting Cafe Rhubarb again, and recommend you try the vegetarian breakfast.

After discovering this "hidden gem" last year we were desperate to introduce it to our student daughter . What a let down! Whilst the the carrot cake was deemed good both the Guiness cake and Croissant cake failed to delight. In both cases it was like eating a slab of cold clay ! Stodgy, heavy slices of what simply could not be described as cake. The lesson learnt? Stick to more traditional offerings, as being adventurous completely backfired on this occasion!
