Lovely friendly cafe above the shop, serving up tasty south American style dishes. Makes it a nice lunch venue.

Only just discovered this gem. Simple tasty food at good value prices. Great spot for lunch. Great fresh juice. Very quick service. Hidden above the health food shop, you have to look for it . But we got the last table at 12:30 so people seem to know it's there!

I have loved this place for the last 25 years!! The owner, Patricia is such an awesome woman and brings with her authentic South American cuisine...she is the don. Go inside the shop and up the back stairs to find La Rucas quaint cafe for the best nachos, quesadillas, chimi changas plus to die for homemade cakes etc.

This is a really good cafe which you enter through the family shop. Up the stairs is a very friendly cafe. They catered for our party of four which included a vegan, and a coeliac. I had a chimichanga with chicken which was really good. Coffee and tea were brilliant.

I love La Ruca good coffee and lovely homemade foods. The cafe is upstairs and this adds an private feel to the experience. News papers are available for a leisurely drink or to read after delicious food. There are also some interesting foods drinks in the shop downstairs. Well worth a regular visit.

I wasn't particularly intrigued to try La Ruca but I decided to give it a try and take some food to go...I was pleasantly surprised with the flavours that were packed in their tortilla...but the veggie chimichanga was out of this world! Very tasty, very filling! Pure comfort food!

A bit out of the way given it's above a retail food shop...and inscence, Bees wax candles etc....downstairs. Quite small, perhaps a dozen tables. Cosy feel with a nice ambience even on a rainy autumn morning. I had Full English and wife the vege English. Servings were ample albeit not huge. My very seasoned sausage was finger size with a ok piece of bacon. 4 half button mushrooms. Big eaters may not be satisfied. I was a tiny bit miffed that they refused my request for poached eggs instead of fried. The reason was because it was very busy; however it absolutely was not. Never mind. Cost for both meals including a very good coffee each a bit under £14.

We called in and received a very warm welcome... and when I reached the daily specials part of the menu glanced up and the waitress immediately told me what they were! Impressive! I had the chilli con carne special and my fiance had the chicken chimichanga. Couldn't fault either. Great flavoursome food and perfect service. Highly recommended and we will return. Thanks for the experience 😁

Lovely little shop, I finally went to try the cafe upstairs for breakfast, also rather quaint. I just had one issue which was the ventilation. The smoke from the kitchen from cooking fry ups went everywhere, even with the backdoor open. But it was an otherwise enjoyable, relaxing atmosphere.

I've been here for lunch on a Saturday a couple of times now and it's such a lovely spot. The woman who runs the place is really smiley, attentive and welcoming and the food is delicious and great value. Gloucester Road has a lot of great places to eat and La Ruca is easy to overlook, but it's well worth a visit.

Had lunch here mid-week after a recommendation from a friend. The cafe is situated above a fantastic shop selling many organise and health foods. The waitress serving us was lovely, really friendly and super speedy. I had a pretty bad cold and she recommended the super fruit and veg juice with added ginger which certainly did the job! The food is equally as wonderful, I had the Chimichanga with chicken and my mum had a Vegetable Enchilada. Both came with tasty salad. Really reasonably priced and a lovely atmosphere. Also had some fantastic art that you could buy hanging in the cafe. Would 100% recommend if you're in the area.

Always a genuinely warm welcome, unpretentious and relaxing cafe atmosphere above a small grocery shop. Great fresh food reasonably priced and a fab selection of homemade cakes and desserts. I have been coming here over 18 years (off and on) and never disappointed 😁. Great place to relax and chill.

I feel like this is the one place where I can properly relax almost as much as being at home. I think the secret is the genuine family feel of La Ruca. I love the food because it's so fresh, and the shop below it is a treasure trove of wonderful stuff to cook and care for yourself and your home. Basically, of all the places I go in the UK, La Ruca is the place I come back to and breathe; a place for quiet contemplation, sustenance and reflection. It is not just a cafe to review on Trip Advisor, but a way of life that takes years to call home.

Piccoli prezzi, grandi soddisfazioni!

I have been going to La Ruca for meals, supplements, specialty teas, excellent stripy socks, and other products including coconut oil, thai green curry paste etc. The list is nearly endless and since it opened I have always had high quality service from Patricia(Alvarez) and her family and other staff and chefs. Patricia is a lovely woman and very busy; she is always friendly and always makes time for a quick chat. The shop is downstairs where Patricia's husband Alfonso works - he's nice as well. There is so much to choose from at affordable prices. Upstairs is the cafe where the meals are gorgeous. You've just got to pop in. Its family friendly as well.

We were doing a bit of shopping on the Gloucester Road, and looked for somewhere to have a light lunch. We thought the advertised menu of this cafe looked interesting and decided to give it a try, and were more than pleased with our choice. We both had what I guess is loosely called "hispanic" dishes and they were thoroughly enjoyable. This is obviously a small family business and the food had that home cooked feel, along with excellent coffee. Passing through the downstairs shop back to the street, I thought I would definitely want to try that too if we lived more locally.
