Cafe Palazzo in North Ayrshire

Was down to ardrossan visiting family with the kids, thought I would pop down to the plaza for some tea since I haven't been in a few year got two fish and chips and couple bag of chips for the kids. The fish was raw and chips were stale. Fish was near enough flapping about in the papers. Felt that bad I had to release it to ardrossan harbour! AND TO MAKE THINGS WORST THE SEAGULLS GOT IT BEFORE MAKING IT TO THE SEA #ANGRYFACE #PLAZAISSTINKING #HATESEAGULLS #CRYINGKIDS THANKS PLAZA KIDS CRYING NOW!!!! P.S haven't been able to get off the toilet since #toiletblocked

I’ve been a regular customer for many many years now and at times are in 2/3 times a day. That alone proves how nice the food is. The menu is great from chippy stuff to rolls and desserts! The staff are friendly and helpful and always happy to help you. I personally love the black pudding suppers there outstanding!

I order a lot from here sometimes twice a day! The food is normally good and they have a large selection of sweets and ice creams to try as well. You can either sit in or takeaway! Overall a good wee cafe/chippy and always busy.

Worst fish and chips I’ve experienced in a long time. Batter was hard and dripping with oil, fish was thin without a decent bite to it. Despite asking for extra salt and vinegar there was scant taste of either. Possibly dispenser not working. Altogether not just a tasteless but an unpleasant experience. Very poor.

Just walked in and placed my order. The fish was just getting put into the fryer. Only waited a short time and my order was ready. Very pleasant staff and a great fish supper.

Door handle filthy. No excuse for this. Server who gave me ice cream had an uncovered cut on her finger. Won’t be back.

I use the plaza daily from my breakfasts rolls to the chippy stuff for dinner and my wife LOVES carols coffees!! We’ve never had a bad experience in almost 7 years of coming here. My son loves the oven baked pizza’s! Would highly recommend anyone to pop in and give it a try there’s something for everyone on the menu! And the ice cream & milkshakes are out of this world!!

This is a nice little cafe, selling food, ice cream and sweets. The staff are always so genuine, friendly and helpful. They’ve been there working hard throughout Covid, I’d like to thank them for that.

We had really excellent fish and chips take away which we took to the beach. Despite being busy service was fast and efficient. Really generous portions of fish and chips. Very tasty.

Ordered for half six delivery and came at quarter past five! Greasy and very little fish ,mostly batter. Very disappointed.

The last couple of times I’ve ordered a fish supper, the fish has been dried out and the batter hard. The fish has obviously been sitting too long in the heated compartment area. Albert’s is much fresher.

When I’m in the area I always have to stop here abs have an ice cream, alaways the vanilla and with red sauce. Just amazing. Comes in 3 sizes, small one isn’t enough and the medium is sometimes a tad too big. Not cheap but ok a treat

Lovely friendly staff. Tasty food. Menu varied. Pleasant service. Reasonable prices. Good reputation. No mask, No entry clearly stated on door & staff masked too ( mostly). Screens in place. Distancing floor markers in situ. All very good & following safety & hygiene at this point in time BUT very disappointed to witness staff handling cash/money & same staff handling food with bare hands. Contamination possible. Gloves available but not used. Previous visits staff were wearing gloves & using tongs when handling certain foods & loose unwrapped chocolates. Previously staff seen using hand sanitizer after handling cash. Some staff not following this practice at present. Standards have obviously slipped since reopening. Essential to maintain high hygiene levels at all times but particularly during ongoing pandemic. Also serving customers who were not wearing a mask & not being challenged to show exemption pass. Contradictory message being conveyed. When customer service becomes lax & staff become complacent....business will suffer. Management need to check the cameras & pinpoint the staff who are letting the business down & reactify situation.

Fantastic food and service every single time! I’ve been coming here most days for many years and not once have me or my family ever had a bad meal or bad experience! The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, the food is amazing! Our firm favourites is our breakfast rolls in the morning then a toastie & soup at lunchtime and my son loves the pizzas in the big pizza oven! And we all love a wee ice cream from time to time. Definitely the best cafe/chippy in Ayrshire.

Use here most days for lunch and can’t fault it the staff are friendly and helpful and the foods lovely and decent priced they have a variety of new ice creams as well to chose from which I enjoy after eating my chippy lunch !

Stopped in here for a roll and sausage. The sausage tasted terrible like it had been cooked in the fat of haggis. Ended up throwing it away. Also got a coffee that had a film on the top. Also got thrown away. Would not recommend.

This is a great place to have a fish tea or an ice cream. There is a variety of food, pizzas, burgers, chicken all freshly cooked. And a good selection of ice cream too.

Stopped in for a bite after getting off the last ferry on Sunday. Take away and restaurant we're open. Great quality food, friendly staff and reasonably priced. Even old style sweet shop or ice cream for afters.

I cannot believe some of the poor reviews recently ,I was born in Scotland and Live in London and can Honestly say that this is one of the best Fish & Chip shops/Restaurants that i have ever eaten in ! When I visit my Mum who lives in Dalry which is not too far away the first thing that she asks is "are you taking me to cafe palazzo?"The fish is cooked to perfection and the batter is not oily or greasy at all ,the staff are Brilliant !!We will continue coming back as we love it !!

We have just bought a single sausage & a special fish supper & have binned it all-sausage was hard and shrivelled & the special fish was burned to a crisp & it was all obviously reheated, honestly cannot believe how bad it was-now having to make ourselves something to eat. Taking the boat to arran we always stop to pick up a takeaway ,service is slick extremely busy at all times,they cater for pensioners with smaller portions and prices to match.Food is always piping hot and freshly cooked.

Customer service is a big big deal and unfortunately the plaza staff don’t understand this. Pulling people up for writing a review. I will never ever ever use the plaza ever again from now on that’s just due to Ruth having an attitude “thought you weren’t coming back” with a rude tone of voice and Sharon adding her bit in aswell as the staff behind watching and having a giggle aswell. How would the staff understand which call this was? Which order it was. Very very unprofessional and will be taking further.

This used to be an excellent chippy but it's no longer the case. The girl who seems to be the main order taker is awful.. she lacks anything close to being customer service.

I came across the chip shop by chance and from the outside it looks clean and fairly new (in style). Then I went in and, although it was busy-ish the woman, with a face like a pin cushion growled “YES?” at me and that was her only word! Customer service training and smiling lessons are needed.

I go here most Sunday's with my husband for breakfast, the service is good and the food is lively and fresh

I required a rather large order to take to a local school. The staff were friendly and helpful while the quality of the pizzas was excellent. The kids (and staff) absolutely devoured them - freshly made with plentiful toppings. Thank you for helping me out.

A great proper chippy and if you can manage it after the generous portions then the homemade ice cream is tremendous. Food is great and always friendly staff.

On a return trip to Largs called in at the Plazzo. Pizza was soaked in grease and chips 3/4 cooked. This was the best chippy in Ardrossan.

Went here with my girlfriend and her two year old sister, decided to sit in and staff were very friendly and helpful, food was fast as from chip shop next door - was delicious and afterwords all three of us had ice cream and all had different flavours and loved it - banana was a bit strong - big portions of ice cream for small price compared to where I live at inverclyde, will definately be back when we head down that way again and try the milkshakes

My dad went in when I waited in the car I told him to get me a half pizza supper he said he wanted a sausage supper, so he went in ordered the meal got it the when we were in the car we found both of ours all wrapped together in one bag, so annoyed won't be back found the chips and pizza greasy.

Whether you want just to sit in for a cup of tea, a light or full meal. Reminiscent of a 50's/60's Italian café - fish and chips etc, ice cream and now long forgotten jars of sweeties. Suitable for all. Staff will accommodate any choices to changes on their menu. Quite busy at times both for "sitting in" or for take-away meals in the shop or chippy next door.

Never had a problem with any meals we got from here, the staff are so nice, there is nearly always a queue but that’s because it’s so good.

Cafe Palazzo is the best chippy I have ever had,we eat there often,both sitting in the cafe and carry out,I can remember stopping there to get a chippy when we used to go to south beach,that was 55 years ago and always loved the chips,followed by ice cream.

The cafe part has lovely homemade soup as well as a wide variety of meals such as toasties with salad to a special fish supper.

I grew up in Ardrossan and every time I visit this is my MUST list - vanilla ice crea 2nd to none! I beleive under EU rules it is technically 'milk ice'......who cares it's Palazzo! Light, undeniably freshly made.

Used this place at various times over life and recently started using again on a weekly basis. Being going for circa 80 years and great example of 'Italian' owned eatery / cafe from west coast Scotland. Attracts a lot of local custom for both fish and chip shop and cafeteria and deserves its local reputation. makes its own ice cream...super.

Since I can remember I have came through those doors since I was a nipper. I'm now in my 50s and swear that it's the best in the three towns. I used to live in ashgrove road so the palazzo was a weekly favourite of ours but we moved away when I was 12 so I only get the delights when I return to the area. Of course it’s changed but everything does but the food and the staff remain cheerful and happy to serve you. The food is great and if there is room, sit down get the weight off and enjoy it piping hot.

Stopped off on the way home from the Arran ferry to pick up fish and scampi suppers for 11. Very efficient (we had phoned the order ahead before leaving Arran) and cooked freshly as soon as we arrived. Fish choice limited to haddock (not a problem for us) and huge portions with two whole pieces of fish each plus piles of chips. All good.

I used to rant on bout how good the special fish was at the plaza to my friends and family. Not anymore. Massive disappointment, very poor fish and way over cooked.

The Palazzo breakfast is the best locally. Always fresh and non greasy with hot buttered toast and a pot of tea. Best hangover cure there is! And the rest of their food and ice cream as well as jars of old fashioned sweeties are brilliant too. The takeaway fish n chip shop is one of the best in the area.

I'm originally from the area. Always try to visit the Plazzo when I'm back home for the ice cream, it's the best around. Always tastes great and always the highest quality. Try it, you won't be disappointed

I have visited this establishment often, I have known the family for the last 65 years since I was brought up 100 yards from the shop, the family run business is run in a very professional way with the cafe come fish restaurant, serving very good fish & chips and a selection of other fried dishes eg pizza, hamburgers, chicken all worth a try as the menu is varied. The restaurant has a good selection of ice cream again worth a try. You know it's good because it is busy most days including school days at lunch time.

Best fish and chips! This is a MUST stop every time we visit. Great value and we just don't have fish and chips this good in the States.

Went a stroll in the sunshine and popped in for an ice cream. Small choice of flavours but very reasonable. P had the twin apple pie and caramel whilst D had the twin rum and raisin with apple pie.

Como uno de mis fish and chips tiendas local lo utilizo por lo menos una vez por semana y no dudaría en recomendar. las raciones son un buen tamaño, a un precio razonable, y el personal es muy agradable y servicial. El Café Palazzo ha cocinar comida frita durante muchos años, y sencillamente no se puede conseguir algo mejor. El servicio es rápido y amable, precios modestos, las cocinas limpias y la comida es excelente. Mi propia favorita es la Ultima Cena negra de budines pero para ser honesto no se puede superar una buena cena de pescado. El bateador gustos siempre frescos y las patatas fritas son constantemente cocinar así que no habrá ninguna orina comida servida. Quizás no es la comida saludable del mundo pero me encanta, y recomiendo encarecidamente el Palazzo a los habitantes y visitantes.

Years and years of eating at this place growing up in North Ayrshire. Always great fish supers, but you can not beat the Palazzo ice cream. AWESOME. Can not pass the place without stopping for a tub of their homemade ice cream.
