Church Street Cafe is a good, authentic New Mexican restaurant. They have a pretty large large menu selection, and I ordered combination plate, which included one tamale, one chile relleno, and one cheese enchilada with red and green chili. It tasted excellent and the portion size was pretty big. They even gave the table chips and salsa and a free Mexican desert consisting of flour bread. The environment was very pleasant with distinct architecture, plenty of decorations on the wall, friendly staff, and live Mexican music being played with a harp involved. I also learned that this building is rich with history, as it was built in 1706 and it is supposedly haunted. I really enjoyed my meal at Church Street Cafe and I highly recommend dining here for an authentic, old New Mexican experience.

What a fun spot! Food was great, prices were comparable to anywhere else and service was great-even on a super busy night (during dia de los muertos). I appreciated that they had vegetarian options (squash, etc instead of meat). The live music was a nice treat and an overall great atmosphere. We’d definitely go back! There’s a paid parking lot 2 blocks away or street parking if it’s nit a busy night.

This place is unassuming and I went on several recommendations. I am glad I gave it a try, because I gotta say I'm often unimpressed by touristy New Mexican food. This was authentic, delicious, and everything I wanted. The place is beautiful, extensive, and great service too! People always ask me where they should go for great New Mexican- and I always say home! I don't seek out restaurants for food I can make it get at home or at family's- but this might change my mind.

We were visiting family for thanksgiving weekend and they took us to Old town. My sister in-law made reservations. We had 18 in our party and it was awesome!! This restaurant is much larger than it looks, with a stunning grand hall where we were seated. Everyone received their food hot and in a timely manner! The atmosphere was amazing!! Our waitress was very efficient. Would definitely recommend!!

The place has an old NM feel, but the service could be improved. They were not that busy, but it took forever to get small requests. The food was good but not great, and the portions were small. I will pass on this place. Try Tomasitas if you want great service and authentic NM food.

We had the enchilada plate, relleno plate and the navajo taco plate. Each plate had a good size portion of food. Chips & salsa was good, although the salsa has a taste of cumin, which I thought was weird. Sopaipillas were amazing!

Drove 5 hours to celebrate a family members birthday. Took almost 2 hours to get our food out. Beans were cold, not lukewarm, cold. Rice was crunchy and enchiladas had incredibly chewy tortillas. We were so excited to get seating for our group at a reputable restaurant. My aunt spent all night vomiting, my daughter, my sister in law, and myself all have bad stomach issues after eating. Go hungry if this is the only option, being hungry won’t kill you, but this place might.

Our waiter was less than friendly. We ordered Margaritas which did not taste very good , found out from waiter they make them in the morning, no offer to make fresh or remove from bill, for $14.00 a piece you would think they should be made at the bar fresh. The ground beef in my Burrito tasted like it had been cooked also in the morning and kept warm. The beans the same. We were referred by a local nearby store on the plaza. Never Again!

Unfortunately, the kitchen lost our order and didn't get our food for 2hrs. While they turned tables all around us. They instead bought another table's order after we waited an hour and a half. So we waited another 1/2 hour for our order. We should have left.

I usually don't give negative reviews, but 3 people recommend this place and the food was incredibly mediocre. A chicken fajita salad was salty chicken over a bed of greens with sliced olives from a can. The guacamole was thin and bitter, with a pile of shredded lettuce at the bottom of the bowl to make it look bigger.

If you eat anywhere in Old Town & want great atmosphere, Mexican cuisine, fantastic service this is your place. We went in on Halloween day, Aron greeted us with a smile. He took us back to our seats as we got to admire all the Halloween decorations. I ask Aron about the history of the building, he was very knowledgeable on place. That the building was built in the early 1700’s. Being one of the oldest buildings in Old Town. He gave us a pamphlet/menu that had wonderful information on it about the long history of this building. Ask him about the lady buried in the floors when you visit, that was a great story. Cafe was clean & spacious. Waitress Shelby was quick to get out drinks, take order, & answer any questions about menu/food available. I ask if I could take pictures for this review she said yes, then showed me the great room & courtyard. The food was plentiful, hot, delicious, & green chiles perfect. She gave us the option to have the sopapillas with meal or at the end. We chose at end. She brought them out hot with a honey bottle, they were outstanding. I highly recommend this cafe, you will not be disappointed. We will definitely be back. FYI: there is no parking out front, so you will need to park in the square or around Old Town. There is no place to park a large RV, but there are fee parking areas with in the area.

Superb!!!! The location is clean, welcoming and nicely decorated. The staff was extremely kind. They brought me, without even asking, something quick to eat for my 2-year-old daughter, who was very hungry, until her order was ready. Special menu for children, accompanied by waxed pencils (they are always welcome when you serve a meal with 1 such a small child). The food was delicious and we waited very little for it to be served. Very good local beer, regardless of which variety you choose. Live music. Homemade nachos. The cat on the outside terrace seemed to be paid to please the customers :)) I recommend the location. It was an authentic and delicious dinner

I ordered an $18 salad, basically a baby lettuce mix with some goodies on top. A lot of the lettuce was old and gone bad. I showed the server. She took it back to the kitchen and (eventually) brought a new one. The new one was similar. Because I was hungry and didn’t want to wait another half hour or more I ate the second salad, having to carefully pick through it. Before leaving I politely showed the manager the nasty lettuce from the second salad. In a hostile manner she said she was sorry and insulted me by offered a 10 percent discount. I suggested maybe the second time around fresh lettuce would have been better. She should have offered either to deduct the cost of the salad or a future credit and taken ownership of the problem. In her view it was was clearly my problem not enjoying the old lettuce, not the fault of the restaurant. The rear courtyard is pleasant and our tamales were good. Service is slow and inattentive. Recommended for a leisurely drink in the courtyard. For food and salads you can probably do better elsewhere (but not at Hawt Pizza Company who must have the same lettuce source!).

An Old Town Must! Wait times can be long, but worth it. Sometimes you can call ahead for seating but sometimes not. For example, it’s common for places not to accept reservations in October when traffic is higher than expected because of the balloon festival. Show up early, get on the list, and do some nearby shopping while you wait. My family likes the homemade tamales and the combination plate. Don’t forget the margarita pitchers, we went with the prickly pear but the classic is good too. And they have some amazing sopapillas!

The first time I came here the breakfast I got was good, but when we returned for a 2nd visit, the food I got was like the reheated slop you get at a Holiday inn in the middle of nowhere. Except it wasnt even warm, seemed like our plates had been left out for a while. The potatoes had obviously been reheated by their shriveled appearance and were not cooked that morning. They were devoid of seasoning, including salt. The pork and eggs werent fresh either. If I cared less about being perceived as a jerk, I wouldve sent our plates back to the kitchen. Didnt want to embarrass/annoy our server or make a scene though. A real shame because I really liked the neat building.

This is no disrespect to the establishment and past reviewers who rated this place high but I’m not sure I ordered from the correct place. Lots of reviews states food was excellent and incredible. Website reads, Break Free From Boring Food. However the food was boring and just flat. Those who said this was excellent must have boring taste buds. After driving from Denver to stop for the evening we ordered take out for dinner. The fajitas were just under seasoned sautéed chicken and a lot of peppers and onions. Shredded beef tacos tasted like a Midwest pot roast rather than any southwestern beef tacos. The sautéed side spinach was the only thing that wasn’t boring. Again no disrespect but this place just didn’t live up to the hype. The red and green could have been what reviewers were raving about but we expected to be blown away, it was just underwhelming.

We stopped coming here because the owner is RACIST. This used to be a regular spot for us! We like the food. The serviced is good. However one day we came to eat and the owner was the hostesses. She sat a table of people who came in before us. But addresses my husband (who is black) and said I will be right with you. Right as she was coming back to the front a white woman has walked in and she addressed her first and was going to seat her first before my husband and I. My husband spoke up and told her you know I’ve been standing here for 10 mins. So she did finally seat us before the whites woman who had just walked in. I will say also that a couple of the servers who previously worked here expressed her racism towards them as well! So we no longer have would patronize this business even though we like it here. My friend came from Tennessee to came for vacation. We were shopping in old town and she and her kids wanted tacos. So we came to Church Street. The owner was not there that day. But we had Jesús as sever. I cannot sing his praises LOUD enough. He was wonderful. He was in top of everything! He totally made me not regret my decision to patronize this place again. Mixed bag of some good and ok food, poor service, and nice atmosphere. I had high expectations going here, but I'm not sure it was worth the wait. The restaurant is clearly short staffed by the huge number of open seats and 50 minute wait time for a part of 4 at lunch on a Sunday. The good: what a wonderfully nice old residence. The meat is well seasoned and cooked nicely, I would recommend the ground beef tacos and enchiladas with egg, and the rice. The bad: waiter forgot drink order and didn't stop by until out food came out. The calabacitas were bland, fajita meat was over seasoned. No free chips and salsa, unlike many other New Mexican restaurants. Overall this restaurant is an overrated tourist trap and not currently worth the wait.

We ate out on the patio in the shade. Our waiter was awesome. Chef on us several times to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. One of my favorite places to eat in Old Town.
