The cafe is permanently shut and has been converted to an outside bar only used in the summer. It needs to be removed from Tripadvisor. Fortunately, they still do a nice pot of tea in the bar

Prices are too high for their “posh”food. £8 for cheese on toast is a rip off and there was nothing posh about it. Other people also complaining whilst we were there. Bring back the old cafe with its simple but substantial menu.

Nestled away in a sunny courtyard, what a lovely place - whether stopping for a coffee and cake, indulging in a delicious breakfast or a classy lunch. Staff are cheerful and helpful. Covid safety is well organised an doesn't detract from a warm sense of normality in these strange times. Best to book in advance, but we were ok getting a table on spec when we arrived. Highly recommended!

Our experiences are mirrored by those of others on tripadvisor and google reviews who find the service, particularly, unacceptably poor. We've been many times in recent years and I'm not quite sure why we keep returning - absence dims the less than satisfactory experiences we have had, I suspect. Some of the staff feel that they are doing you the most enormous favour by serving you. Some are rude and confrontational - you can't sit there, you're only two and a table of four might come in! Or, you can't sit there, I'm setting it up for a party in two hours' time! Service is always slow and nearly always disappointing - who trains the staff to bring your hot food out into the garden and then return to bring the cutlery, having waited for twenty minutes for the food to arrive? It's all a bit shambolic and disorganized, lacking in direction and class. All of which is a pity, as the food is good, if significantly over-priced. If it were in a high street, it wouldn't survive. Instead, visit the pub next door, The Nevill Arms, which shares the courtyard - much friendlier service and better value for money.

Visited on the 27 October. Cappuccino coffee - delicious but arrived and were sadly rather cool. Soup - tasty ( just under £6) but a little spoilt by the debris of woody (herb?) stems. Eggs benedict Royale - just under £10. Tasty but small portion for the price. The worst thing was a dish my son had. There was a small salad with it which had definitely not been washed and was full of soil. Whilst the staff apologised for this, there was no offer of a replacement or even a reduction in price. Very disappointed in the overall quality.

It was my dad's 82nd birthday so my sister and I decided to take him out for breakfast. Dad had the full English, my sister had the veggie full English and I had scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. Took my husband here whilst out walking for the day in the beautiful Welland Valley. It was his 60th birthday and he had his heart set on the veggie breakfast which he had enjoyed very much on a previous visit. On this occasion we were 15 minutes too late! I explained to our waitress Helen it was his birthday and she came back with the good news - she had arranged a special later breakfast for him. Made us feel very special. I had the same and it was delicious. The only reason this is 4 stars and not 5 was that another waitress actually served us the food and whilst serving seemed to find it necessary to point out that breakfasts finished being served at 12 noon. It took the edge off a happy occasion for us. Our lives have been a bit gloomy lately with elderly parents being unwell and needing lots of help. Helen gave us a moment of feeling special but her colleague burst the bubble, not intentionally I am sure. But we are able to read the menu and did know we had missed the breakfast deadline. Of course the obvious solution is to serve the veggie breakfast all day which would expand the options for vegetarians in a great way and I am sure would be very popular.

Took a friend for a birthday lunch. The courtyard is very comfortable and spacious though waspy! I had the seafood club sandwich, which was exquisite, she had quiche with some wicked looking coleslaw, and we shared fries. With two soft drinks it came to £26 so not cheap, but not extortionate either. Service was a little... confused - they tried to give our food to two businessmen and then messed the bill up - but the superb food and surroundings made up for it. And they were friendly.

WE visited the cafe for breakfast last weekend having been regular customers for some years. The standard of the food here is consistently high and have never had a duff meal. The breakfasts are particularly good with a very filling full English or light and veggie alternatives. There are also some more unusual breakfasts such as eggs with avacado and sundried tomatoes (highly recommended) or black pudding with poached eggs (which my friend really enjoyed). Coffeee is really good and available in cafetieres as well as expresso etc. Service here can be a little slow when they are busy but we were served incredibly quickly this weekend by a friendly and efficient waitress. The cafe also does good lunches and delicious cakes. Well done Cafe Nevill and long may you continue.

Visited over bank holiday weekend - very slow service had to ask to order drinks and then had to ask again to order. Didn't seem to be enough staff and none with any experience or smiles. Finally ordered and had a long wait for food. I ordered chicken and bacon salad - the chicken was lukewarm and dry and the bacon fatty. My friend ordered a sandwich and the bread was not at all fresh. Didn't bother to say anything as we had lost the will to live after such a long wait for it all. Sent two emails to book a table at Café Nevill and no reply, finally rang and booked a table. Initially on arrival the waitress took the order for drinks and for the first course for the lunch. Tasted very nice. Then sat for 30minutes waiting for someone to come back to ask if we required anything further no one came, despite the fact that orders were taken for a second course on the table near us and they had come in after us.We asked for the sweet menu and then again was left with no one coming to take an order. The staff looked very unhappy and showed no sign of wanting to help. In the end we asked for our bill and this was placed on the table. Would not recommend or go again, if staff do not want to work there or if there are issues with the serving then perhaps a chat to management to clear the air.

We were seated in the conservatory area, it was nice and airy with plenty of windows open etc. We all opted for a "Full English" and we were not disappointed in any way. Plenty of it, not too greasy and excellent coffee. A little expensive when compared to a greasy spoon type venue but considering it's location etc. I think it a fair price to pay for what was served and how it was presented. We called in for a quick lunched based on our previous good experience here. My sandwich was good enough but my wife's spinach pinenut & mushroom florentine was very disappointing, especially as it had been recommended by the waitress. The muffin was very stodgy and the mushrooms were tough. The waitress apologised and removed the plate. When we came to pay I was surprised that the item was still on the bill. When queried the response was that the there had never been any complaints about that dish before and my wife had eaten half of it anyway (she had left all of the muffin and most of the mushroom!). She could not refund the full cost as this was as instructed by her manager (who was off site). The best she could offer was to refund the cost of one drink. In the end she compromised and refunded the cost of both drinks. It is bad enough for a restaurant to serve a sub-standard dish but even worse not to admit it and adopt the attitude shown here.
