Tried out for the first time today and can't wait to come back. Had the soup of the day (butternut squash and red pepper) and it was delicious! So flavourful and a very generous portion. The GF cake had a sandy/unpleasant texture so wasn't too keen on that but could happily eat the soup every day. I am already craving it again. Friendly staff too. Will be back.

We visited late afternoon for a quick Coffee and cake. The staff were helpful and efficient. Late afternoon there was limited choice but what was on offer was delicious. They have opened up an outside area in the community garden where you can sit and enjoy your food. Very nice in the sunshine and an interesting garden. We will return.

Not typical Sunday lunch venue. Predominant vegetarian menu. But Sunday lunch was excellent! Staff and food of very good quality.Would like to return to sample "healthy eating"

Visited for a spot of lunch weekday, nice atmosphere and helpful staff happy to accommodate requests. I had the quiche and a selection of salads which was delicious! My only complaint would be the drinks, they were quite expensive (£4 for a juice?) and the tea arrived which left a LOT to the imagination - hot water in a mug with a floating teabag. Perhaps investing in a teapot would be a good idea and much more appealing for customers! I’d definitely return based on the food, only!

Gorgeous quiche and salads on offer in this predominately vegetarian restaurant. Very tasty but certainly not light on calories with delicious pastry and lots of olive oil! Light and bright with a lovely atmosphere - a nice place to sit and exchange ideas.

Had lunch in MIMA cafe with a colleague, we ordered sandwiches and hot & cold drinks which arrived promptly. The selection of good quality food was great and the sourdough seeded bread on the sandwich was absolutely delicious! The menu is slightly expensive however you do pay for the quality, will most definitely be returning and will recommend to others.

Reading other reviews of the Mima cafe, I am not entirely sure I am reviewing the same place as other people as my experience certainly wasn't as positive as the majority of reviewers. We knew the cafe was under new management with the owner of the Waiting Room so my colleague and I popped across from work for lunch last week. We didn't have a lot of time so opted for a sandwich and a scone to share rather than a larger meal or salad, so maybe that was our 1st mistake. I am personally not over keen about seeing a completely open kitchen when entering a coffee shop/restaurant- but that is maybe just my view.We ordered a ham hock and apple sandwich and a scone with 2 latte's. We were then informed that there was no apple left would pear be ok. We agreed but when the sandwich came, the bread was so thick and the crust so hard it wasn't the easy sandwich to eat. It was also we felt, rather dry. They forgot our scones so we had to ask about them and we also found the scones very crumbly and nothing special..We had enough butter on our plates however to butter 4 scones- not just 1 which was rather a waste. I was surprised to find there was no sugar on the tables and when I enquired as to the whereabouts of the sugar, was directed to a bowl on the cutlery table which i had to take to my own table, spoon the required amount into my coffee and return the bowl to the table..Totally bizarre!! The majority of reviewers seem to have had meals or salads so maybe we will give this place a second chance and have a meal next time but at £13 for a sandwich, a scone, and 2 coffees there are better and cheaper places for an office lunch in Middlesbrough.

I visit a lot of Art galleries ,all over the world and MIMA is up there with the best . Ok it's not huge but the quality and knowledge of the staff is exceptional. Beautifully displayed art in wonderfully designed and built spaces makes the visit a joy . Most cafe serve lovely food now but do they do it on wonderfully designed and constructed furniture . Each piece was a work of art in its own right . Cork topped tables with Bonsai trees growing of them ! Just be carefully drinking your tea as I dribbled mine as I kept noticing different delights

We went to MIMA to see an exhibition last week, not noticing the gallery was still shut for Christmas. Luckily the Cafe was open and it alone was worth the drive. We went back today to see the exhibition and to have another go at lunch. The show was very good and the lunch was excellent. The range of choice available and the excellent salads are a real plus.

I went around the MIMA gallery to kill time in Middlesbrough. After the viewing I went to the on-site cafe. The cafe is clean, smart, chic and modern. The staff were polite and helpful. I did not look at the menu but I ordered a coffee and a piece of chocolate cake which was on the serving counter. The cake and coffee arrived promptly. I was the only one in the place. They were both very nice. I sat at a window seat with a scenic view of the town-hall and the dancing fountain in the park area outside. The toilets were clean and modern. I would go back for a a coffee and snack.

My family and I meet here on a regular basis for a quick, light lunch. The staff are always so friendly and chatty which makes you feel very welcome. The food is always nice, from their jacket potatoes to the salads or the paninis. The freshly made cakes are a nice naughty treat to indulge on along with a nice pot of tea or latte. I would always recommend cafe mima, just check that it's open on the day as we have been caught out before.

Very good cuppacino and delicious fruit scone with butter and jam for two of us and it cost just £6. Excellent value and excellent quality. The scones were made and baked on the premises. The quiche on display looked very appetizing too and that was also made and baked there. We were very impressed by the range of food available and the great value; a bacon or sausage bun and tea £2.50 or with coffee of your choice for only £3....... seems incredible value to me.This is a lovely place to sit for a coffee, snack, or light lunch and the staff are very friendly and welcoming. We visited late on a Saturday morning and were surprised there were not more people there; with these prices and such good quality cakes, scones, quiches, etc it is well worth a visit. I strongly recommend Cafe MIMA......just a stone's throw from town too!

I'm (increasingly) getting impressed by Middlesbrough and what it has to offer!OK. it has its problems with drugs and alcohol, but they seem to be what burdens what (increasingly) seems to bedevil so many other cities. Such a shame, when there's so much to experience when your brain is functioning without various substances! This has nothing to do with Café Mima, nor its splendid museum; and welcoming Square, so close to an excellent library.I was on my own, this time but the last time I had been very impressed by the museum's art collection, particularly one painting entitled "The Scullery" Look out for it!This time, I went for the coffee break and cake; and a catch up time, while waiting for a friend. The café has a very welcoming atmosphere, and I shall go again.

The cafe at MIMA is much improved since being taken over by Teesside University. There is a varied choice of food and drinks (even vegan options which could perhaps be made clearer), the menu is very reasonably priced and presentation is good. Staff are always very pleasant and helpful though service can be slow during lunchtime periods. Parking is far from easy since the council offer the first two hours free and spaces seem to be taken by people not visiting MIMA which is more often than not very quiet. I parked in a street nearby which now has two alternative cafes which I probably would have visited had I not been meeting a friend at MIMA. The cafe has also stopped providing newspapers and magazines for customers to read, always handy when you are on your own or waiting for other people to arrive. When I queried their absence I was told that it had been decided that newspapers do not fit with MIMAs image which seems rather odd. Overall, though, a good venue for coffee or lunch.

Went to Mima for the Middlesbrough exhibition and decided to have a snack in their cafe. Nice clean, good varied menus and reasonable pricing.Presentation of my cheese and onion toastie was of a restaurant level. Lovely nice latte and muffin on one of so many meal deals. Also they have a loyalty card, which is bonus because I would return again to this pleasant place with my family.
