Lovely cafe, catering for our various diet requirements from meat eaters to vegans. They asked how we would like our bacon cooked and the delivered what we asked for. Service was spot on and the food was excellent. Highly recommended. Reasonable prices.

We rode out on the motorbike to Hornsea and hunted around for somewhere that did a good breakfast and could cater for a gluten free diet. This place is spot on:good food, decent coffee and fab, friendly service. Nothing seemed too much trouble (checking food labels, etc). Such a happy experience we are going back again this week!

i went recently with my family. Placed our orders, when my chip butty arrived, it contained very little chips to cover the bread cake they were on, the chip portion sizes for the other meals were the same. They were tiny. Then one portion of chips came out as an after thought. These were not the fresh cooked chips we had gotten, but frozen chips swimmingnin grease. I did speak with a member of staff too address this matter, she was rude and abrupt, and possessed no decent customer service. Her excuse was that they were quiet the day before, yet busy the day we went in. So had strugg.ed to keep up with demand. They also did not want to be throwing away any un used pre prepared potatoes. So ok fair enough, i understand that. However, if they did notnhave adequate enough chips to fullfill our order, they couldnhave told us before we ordered. So we could have changed what we ordered, or even maybe peeled some spuds for the order. The bill was well over 50 quid, so not just a few quid. There was not even an offer to knock off something from our bill, or offer a free drink as they had prover iqlly ballsed up. This was not a goodnvisit, i really was not impressed at all.

Found this little gem while on an over night stay at Hornsea. Served immediately by a fresh young face who was very polite and clearly a good little working. Very eye catching on the outside and lovely and clean on the inside. We both had the breakfast which we really enjoyed, the bacon was a good thickness and they do a lovely cappuccino, very worth the money we paid. Free WiFi too 👍

This cafe's a real blast from the past! The décor and ambience certainly isn't modern or minimalist, but the service and food were spot on! The young man who waited on us was very polite and efficient, food and drinks arrived promptly, and portions were hearty. My husband raved about his steak and ale pie, my daughter loved her roast turkey dinner, and I I really enjoyed a full English. The apple pie with custard also went down a treat!

This cafe looked nice, but the food was disappointing. The hot pork rolls weren’t hot at all and there was no stuffing, as advertised. When we pointed this out, the lady said she would microwave it. There was a hair in one of the sausage baps. One of the ladies serving was particularly grumpy. Not a great experience, unfortunately.

We had a trip over to Hornsea and decided to call in here for breakfast as we had our dog with us. The cafe is dog friendly, you are asked to stay on the laminate floor if you have a dog which makes sense to us. The full English breakfast was lovely, both my wife and I enjoyed it along with a grand cup of tea, the staff were very friendly and helpful. When we come back over here we will call again. Thank you for a lovely meal.

Had roast lunch and cottage pie recently. Vegetables were really hot and cooked just right. Meat portions were generous and potatoes, roast and mash were good. I also visit regularly with girlfriends and the meals are consistently good. The only problem for me as a hearing aid wearer is when the coffee machine is steaming/frothing it is too noisy. Also, if seats are only available near the music source my friends give me the one furthest away.

We have visited Hornsea for the last 5 years and have always visited Café Mellar during our stay for our breakfasts each day. The food is fabulous and has always been that way but following our visit this year we will not be back. We found that we were ripped off when it came to paying our bill. We often had the same items to eat and drink daily but the prices varied each day and when we questioned the staff about the difference in charges compared to previous days we were told we had been charged the correct amount. The problem is we were not given receipts from Café Mellor to compare charges from previous days. We are so sorry that we will be unable to use the Café again due to their inconsistent prices which changed daily and will be looking for somewhere else to have our breakfasts when we visit again next year as the last day for us was the final straw!! We ordered a scrambled egg on toast, a small breakfast, one cup of tea and one cup of coffee and it came to £18.00 which was a large increase to what we had paid earlier that week for exactly the same breakfast. Our holiday was spoilt this year by being completely ripped off by this café and is the only reason that we will not be back.

We called in as we had seen the menu and it was not all chips and burgers. We Ordered a salad and a roast dinner. The pork was beautiful and the plentiful vegetables were hot fresh and firm . They had not stood stewing in water. I am diabetic and do not need a lot of carbs and was able to have no Yorkshire pudding and mashed potatoes (had the roast!!) and to have more vegetables instead. Lovely Excellent friendly service and clean toilet. Well recommended.

We paid £20 each and got to sample a fabulous selection of foods from around the med including arancini, stuffed onions, lamb with fennel and a whole host of other dishes . For the older residents of Pudsey ,a suburb of Leeds, they still claim independence from its Big Brother. The majority of shops today appear to be either hair dressers or fast food thereby losing most of their independent identity. One such independent was a family owned fresh food shop with its own bakery situated on the corner of Richardshaw Lane and Cemetery Road. The last and only owner, one David Ward,(a.k.a. to the local community as 'Dave The Bread') left in the early 90's when the business closed and he moved to the quiet East Yorkshire coastal resort of Hornsea.(Yes,you've guessed it,the bakery business is now a hairdressers!)After looking after the local Floral Hall David and his wife Molly now own 'The Cafe Mellar' on the towns main street.New Begin. The have.as they did in Pudsey, built a very good quality based business. The food is as you would expect ,honest ,home cooked ,offering excellent value and well wort a visit.David and Molly have enhanced the Hornsea dining choice on their way there from "THE ROAD TO PUDSEY"

Lovely surroundings, great objects d'art and very friendly people serving.I had a bacon sandwich. The bread was very dried up and there were just two slices of nicely cooked bacon. I wouldn't select this again, but then maybe I fell unlucky with the bread cake.My partner had a fried egg and mushroom sandwich. Plenty of egg, loads of nice sliced mushrooms but it was a little greasy. She wanted a fried egg and butter, so it is, hardly therefore, a surprise. The coffee was very nice indeed, 'fresh bean to cup' although my cappuccino, owing to the milk froth, was disappointingly only a half cup of liquid.Yes we would go again and would recommend but; do please be aware of what it is you are ordering

I like this little café, it has a homily feel and very good value meals. They will give you want you want big or small and the food is very nicely done with plenty of it. Someone mentioned no cash machine nearby, there is one just across the road outside the bank. Music can be playing at times and if they have it they will play a tape for you that you like. In winter there is an open fireplace with a very convincing authentic fire unit that can get very warm. Shame about the rest room being shared but it would take away some space to make two. Yes, nice little café with a homily feel.

Went in for a quick meals and had a summer special - choice of three items. Warm mackerel salad with saute potato salad which had unfortunately been sold out of even though it was only 12 noon, Gammon chips and peas with either egg or pineapple which my husband had, and scampi with salad which I had. These were all £4.99. Tea with teapot which gave 3 cups full was £1.30 and coffee was £1.85. The café was relatively wheelchair accessible but not sure whether it had accessible toilet. Service was friendly and efficient. One thing to bear in mind is that they only take cash. Our bill came to £13.13 and we only had just over £14 between us so we just had enough. It would have been helpful if they had put a notice on the door or menu to say cards not accepted so people are prepared, especially as there is no cash machine nearby where you can get money out in a hurry!
