The worse Indian food I’ve had in many years! I started with low expectations that they were unable to meet. Richmond is gifted with many really good Indian restaurants, this most certainly isn’t one of them!

Oh, I am very sorry to say this. I feel mean … but this was by far the worst curry I’ve ever had in my life. It was just water, I’m shocked and I never knew curry could be that bad. Please don’t go here for food.

The food here is really mediocre - some of the worst I have had in the UK. You would be far better off going to M&S and buying a microwave ready meal than paying £40 for this rubbish. Service was ok given it was busy but we had to wait a long time for the food - which was poor.

The food at cafe masala was delicious - a true gateway into South Asian cuisine. Sadly, our meal was spoilt by a group of entitled golf louts (one of whom had popped his collar?!). Clearly the food was too authentic for these silver spooned sugar boys. Good value, good fun, would go again

Excellent food and excellent service. Would highly recommend. I am definitely going to return and would definitely recommend to anyone who likes an authentic curry. Got free shots after dinner and the bill was very reasonable.

We enjoyed it very much. Sufficient food was served and we even asked if we wanted some more rice. An additional set was immediately brought for our daughter without paying anything extra. We'd love to come back.

Not sure why this place has such a low rating. The food is excellent and the service is lovely. It wasn’t very full when we came in, I assume because of the current rating- but can confirm it’s worth a visit!

Pathetic food uncooked meat horrible taste

Unfortunately a very poor experience at Cafe Masala last weekend. The staff were friendly enough but clearly stressed out by the owner (guy with glasses) belittling them behind the scenes (but loud enough that we could unfortunately hear). We were dining with 2 vegetarians and we told our waiter, upon ordering we were later told by someone who works in the kitchen that they use the same oil that meat is cooked in. No idea if this is against some form of health standards or not, but after being sarcastically told 'other vegetarians don't care' by the owner, we ended up leaving. Please reconsider dining/ordering from here, particularly if you have dietary requirements. Head towards Kew Bridge and there are better options there.

Visited Cafe Masala last night after the rugby at Twickenham. We ordered 4 popadoms,2 main dishes & 2 naan,2 beers & a wine spritz. After the popadoms were served,we waited a long time for our main meals,they concentrate more on takeaways rather than their customers dining in. When the bill came it was just under £76,this amount didn’t tally with the prices on the menus. I paid £80 cash,I wasn’t brought or offered the £4… change which I thought was disrespectful. We would not recommend this restaurant & we will not be dining there again.

Monday 21st August visited Cafe Masala on the strength of the positive reviews on tripadvisor, and that their website indicated they were open Monday to Sunday 4.30-11.00, only to be told by a couple of chaps outside the restaurant, that they were closed, and indicated that they were never open on Monday evenings. Therefore, I have no alternative but to review Cafe Masala most negatively, leaving myself my uncle and cousin most disappointed. I can understand that Monday evenings might prove to be slow for business, and thus not worth opening, but if that is the case, at the very least, please amend the Cafe Masala website indicating you are closed on Mondays.

Initially saw this place and was going to walk past because there wasn't many people inside and had never been before, however, the smell of the food was lovely and noticed that a group sat by the window had practically licked their plates clean, so gave it a chance :). The food was absolutely beautiful from drinks, starters and mains and the service and staff second to none. Would highly recommend!!

I don’t usually write reviews, I just ordered from here on Deliveroo, and was so surprised by how fresh and good the curry tasted - having eaten many oily, poor quality Indian takeaways in my time - that I decided to look up the restaurant. At first I was taken aback by how low the rating was, and after reading some reviews I realise that there has been some sort of altercation and now a mass of people have decided to intentionally create false bad reviews. I don’t know the ins-and-outs of the situation, but two wrongs don’t make a right - and these strangers slandering someone and their business should think twice, and not make up lies about the food or rats in the kitchen or other nonsense. I hope the whole situation can be resolved anyway. Anyway, I’m just here to give an honest review of the food - which was EXCELLENT. I ordered the Naga Garlic King Prawns which was fiery but delicious - the prawns themselves were huge, meaty and super tasty! Honestly I was surprised enough at the quality of this meal to look up the restaurant and leave this review. So don’t listen to all the lies about the restaurant itself and the food posted below - you’ll see the bad reviews are all written the same week. I hope to come and visit the restaurant in person sometime.

We decided to come down for my birthday a few weeks ago with my entire family. Starters were frozen from inside which means they were not fresh and to top things off a little mouse scurrying around behind the counter was seen by my cousin. We complained and were told to f off and get out... but not before paying! As it was ramadan we decided not to smash the place and i believe the owner (guy with the nerd glasses on) was about to cry as we would have shook the entire place down. In the end we did not pay and left and were threatened with police action lol.

This restaurant is lovely, if a little underused. I've been coming here a few times a year for many years and the food is consistently very good. I think it suffers from being the wrong side of a roundabout and therefore not quite in Richmond centre. Definitely worth the extra two minutes walk though.

Perfect venue for a great-tasting, post-rugby meal.

Our group of 5 people were given the wrong drinks, no cutlery or plates for poppadams and frozen samosas for starters. Then waited a further hour to be served with cold tandoori chicken, which the head waiter acknowledged with ‘well what do you want me to do about it’? Finally presented with the wrong bill, then when the correct bill came, the returned cold chicken was on the bill. When we offered to pay for what we had, we were greeted with a tirade of abuse, threats from the kitchen staff, and finally told to f**k off. All this in front of a crowded restaurant.

Had a confirmed reservation but when we went in . Was greeted with rudeness to the like I’ve never seen. Very keen to see you when it’s not a rugby day. However become arrogant and rude when they have a crowd . Stay well clear .Poor service of the highest level .

Booked a table after the Ireland match. Honestly never been spoken to so badly by any restaurant management. I’d get it if we were hanging after the Ireland loss. The chap running it was awful. Steer clear. Walked up 2.5 miles to eat. Having missed out last time. Booked in advance. Told point bank we were cancelled. Place is awful. Don’t go. Having read through the other reviews get why it’s so badly rated. Save your money rugby crowd. Go somewhere that’s going to respect you. Rather than the first jumped up Indian restaurant you might stumble on from a walk from the ground.

Incredible restaurant! Such lovely service Sam was lovely as well as the waiter. We where walking around for ages and came across this place. They had a generous Tuesday night deal on so we got to try lots of yummy foods. Would highly recommend to any Indian food lovers! Will defiantly be returning in the furture

One of our local restaurants that we get to pick up regularly. We had a meal at the restaurant and it was a lovely experience, the staff were so friendly and welcoming, the food was tasty and good portions. Always an amazing meal from here, whether you’re eating in or taking it home.

Cafe masala is very nice restaurant in the Richmond. The food was excellent ,My all time favourite starter is tandoori king prawn, chicken tikka. I recommend must try this restaurant and the staff were very perspective. We will definitely be visiting again.

We were disappointed to realise that we were given a menu that was significantly more expensive than the usual menu. One curry was £18 for example, just for the dish without rice. Most curry dishes on the menu were £15 (just for the curry without rice), but this isn't what is listed on the website, or what we have paid when we have been previously. It is extortionate to pay £15. We felt ripped off. The food was OK, but not amazing. We are unsure why we weren't given the standard menu with the usual prices? We were also initially overcharged for poppadoms. And we were given 10% off at this point, but it still didn't bring prices back down to normal, and it doesn't explain the extortionate menu we were given. We felt ripped off. Very expensive meal.

Visited with friends on a Tuesday for banquet night, £14.95 a head, chose a starter, main, side. What a bargain, all cooked fresh, tasty and generous portion. Prawn purée was super tasty, chicken tikka succulent and sizzling. Highly recommend this restaurant, prices are so reasonable even on a non banquet night. Staff attentive and friendly. They even have a huge cocktail list. Definitely will be going back, please give them a try.
