Cafe Maison in Stockton-on-Tees

It’s ok, this place clearly tries hard but just seems to miss the mark. Don’t get me wrong it’s far from bad but it’s just not brilliant either. Service friendly, food ok, prices ok, coffee not the best

Visited today with my Brother we are busy sorting our dad’s funeral arrangements so not a very good reason to be out for lunch. I had coffee and an omelette and he had a breakfast. I have day service was good and it was the best omelette I have had in a long time. I don’t live locally but will be back when here again

Second visit in one week. Breakfast nice but not remarkable. Cold plate and varying degrees of heat with each item. Let down for me by cheap sausage. Also, egg was over done . It was tasty apart from sausage. Latte priced at 3.70 ( I think) was frankly extortionate. Service was okay but not a massive sense of friendliness. Sorry guys, I'm not coming back

Went to Norton for the day and stopped here for food and a drink. Was nice and tasty. Tad expensive but in this day and age where cost of everything has gone up you don’t mind it. Was very interested in the afternoon tea but think you have to pre book it. But staff very nice and polite as well.

Been here before when visiting my mum. Came on mother's day for a luxury afternoon tea. It was really tasty and plenty of it too. Friendly attentive staff. Highly recommend if you're in the area.

Popped in the Maison Cafe for breakfast and I was very impressed both with the service and the breakfast, it was the best I have had in years, so tasty and reasonably priced. In fact the last time I can remember a breakfast that nice and full of flavour was in Ireland around thirty years ago. I would say it’s the best on Teesside and I have tried them everywhere. Well worth a visit.

Ordered lasagne with garlic bread for granddaughter. She didn’t like the taste of the lasagne but that was her preference. Garlic bread was charcoal down one side. When waitress came to clear table she only apologised then removed plates. No offer of replacement which we wouldn’t have taken anyway. Poor food and even worse service

Best scones, so good we had to have a cheese and a fruit one. I've been loads of times and had no idea they had a garden at back. So friendly too.

Very disappointed with cafe Maison. The scone was so dry. We mentioned it to the waitress but she did not seem bothered. Poor quality food and overpriced. We will not be eating here again and definitely do not recommend.

The scones were absolutely awful. They were rock hard and tasted so bad we left them. This cafe is expensive and the food is well below standard. Poor experience all round.

First time in this cafe and my friend and I enjoyed it. I had a chicken and bacon mayo sarnie with a side of chips and my friend had a cheese scone with a huge slab of Wensleydale and a portion of chutney. We both just had a can of Diet Coke. I enjoyed my meal, the sarnies were lovely but maybe had a teeny bit too much mayo for my taste but the bread was fresh and the filling was plentiful and tasty. Salad was fresh and a good amount for a garnish, the chips were lovely. My friend was well impressed with her scone and took half the slab of Wensleydale home. I felt it was well priced and we were served by lovely staff who smiled and chatted as they brought food and then cleared our table. I would happily return here and I would recommend it.

I ordered a decaff Americano and was given a very small cup of instant coffee (granules floating gave it away) for which I was charged £2.95. Its not the price that annoyed me, it was partly the size of the cup, about 5 oz, and the fact that it was instant coffee! Total rip off, I won't be going there again.

Visited here on Tues 20th December,with my daughter and grandson I had quiche with salad coleslaw and chips,daughter had soup and tuna sandwiches and my grandson had ham and cheese omelette and chips,food came out really quickly considering the place was packed.It was all delicious and piping hot and large portions I will definitely be coming back again

I use this restaurant often, I usually walk 7 miles return wit my friend to enjoy their beautiful food, which is prepared and cooked with love and intention. We are extremely hay to spend our money here. Never had a bad experience yet and visit at least once a week with with my friend or my husband and son. Good food, well presented and prepared and for me the added value is in the way we are served which is excellent.

Had a gorgeous lunch here today.We had turkey and ham pie,cheese and caramelised onion tart,lemon roulade and apple tart,all absolutely delicious.Good portion size,and friendly service.A lovely place too.

Went here for the first time however food not great, so we won't be going back unfortunately. Shame really as could be a lovely spot

Scrambled eggs were like rubber clearly microwaved and unedible, overall far to expensive for the quality of food served. Won't be going again

I must admit, after seeing a couple of poor reviews I was hesitant to visit, but the food, service, and value was absolutely spot on. I couldn’t fault it at all. We had ham/cheese panini (good portion, cooked perfect) an omelette (awesome, good size) and a kids ham sandwich and chips. My wife also had a scone. I had a coffee too. Food came out quick, everything was great. Nice outdoor area too. 5/5. We shall be back.

Would not recommend the food. I had a bizarre BLT that was not like any BLT I have ever had. It was more like a bacon sandwich that you would have for breakfast. It was soggy and kind of disgusting. How do you get a BLT wrong? The chips we had were massively overcooked. My wife's food was overcooked. The scone we had was nice though. Very disappointing experience and we won't be going back.

I came to this cafe today with a friend, booked a table for 10am. I ordered the quiche, only to be told it was still in the oven! I know it’s 10am but don’t have it on the menu if it’s not available from 9am. I then ordered the veggie breakfast…got to admit it was okay but a tad on the cold side…just felt if I complained it would fall on deaf ears. This cafe used to be a little gem, but I feel that it’s starting to go slightly downhill.

Been for cake and a cuppa and returned for a breakfast and was happy both times with both the food and service :)

I've been to Cafe Maison on several occasions and always had a pleasant experience. However after today it may be my last. I attended with work friends for afternoon tea. I personally found the sandwiches, scones and cakes lovely and was pleased with the selection....

We had Sunday roast dinner and cake to finish. The dinner was fresh, well cooked and plenty on the plate. The cake was ridiculously good. I'd rate the chocolate fudge cake as one of the best i have had. Prices are very good. We'll definitelybe...

My first time here, was here about 20yrs ago but I think its had a few refurbs and owners since then. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, the place was immaculate as were the loos too. I had soup, it was so nice served...

Booked afternoon tea put on a large table cramped between two other table. There wasn’t enough sandwiches but loads of cakes to choose from the brought plenty off tea and coffee however it Definitely not worth the money & wouldn’t go again

Popped in for a quick coffee and lunch and everything was lovely. Our meals (panini and hot beef baguette) were very filling, but we managed a brownie between us too. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff

What an absolute gem of a place. Took a friend for afternoon tea on a Sunday and it was absolutely lovely. Cafe was packed which I thought unusual for a Sunday shows what a good place it is. Tea was amazing well worth the money....

Cafe looked nice however not so good when we were advised by staff that they were closing soon, (in approximately 45 minutes) table we were told to sit as not really ideal and we felt most uncomfortable. First and last visit.

Visited here with a friend for breakfast. It wasn't a warm welcome, but we found a place to sit and ordered. I got poached eggs on toast which was nice and my friend ordered eggs Benedict, but the bread was quite hard and drowned in...

This was a very random time to go for a snack, about 4pm on a Saturday but the place was still clean and clear and the staff awake and attentive. We only had some sandwiches, a panini and some chips but they were well prepared...

Today was the first visit for my husband and I and I can say we were not disappointed. What a lovely cafe. Paid at the counter and had a seat by the window. Our drinks arrived first with extra hot water for our black coffees...

After reading previous reviews I went with some trepidation to visit. All I can say is my visit was brilliant. Lady gave us the best table in the cafe. Service and banter was excellent. What can I say about the food... out of this world. Had a coffee in a jam jar!! Don't know what it was called, but it was scrumptious. Well worth a visit

First time visited cafe in ages...very busy.

Been to this cafe on several occasions and never experienced such a poor, unacceptable customer service as I did today. After paying for an extra tea bag for a pot of tea for one (as advertised on the menu)the hot water to go with it didn’t arrive so went to the counter to ask for it. I was totally ignored even though no one else was waiting!!! Then was told I needed to pay for the hot water!!! I’m very disappointed and will never return.

Ordered 4 pots of tea & paid for extra tea bags as pots were very small. No hot water supplied, so went to the counter & was ignored, asked twice for more hot water & was told that was going to be an extra pound each.

We visited Cafe Maison for an adternoon cup of coffee and cake. However when we sat down I noticed yoghurt or icecream on the floor and as we had our chihauhau with us I asked for a clth to wipe it up as I didn't want him to lick it. The person I asked grabbed some paper towel and said " it's only icecream" and then started glaring at us each time she passed our table which was off putting. The scone I had was hard, the cakes my granddaughters had were good. This sort of attitude was unacceptable from this person. However the rest of the staff were very pleasant. I will not return in a hurry.

Excellent Gluten Free Menu, great service, love this place. Had afternoon tea today, it was lovely. And mine was all Gluten Free. Highly recommend x

Always a pleasure, staff are lovely and food is great, especially the cakes. Tracey was very helpful and our order arrived quickly, fab they have coconut milk now too.

Having not been to Cafe Maison for 4 to 5 months, it was time to try out the Sunday morning breakfast, and as with previous visits I was not disappointed. For once the cafe was only inhabited by 30% of its usually clientele, so was a little quiet (but a huge party of 16 was due in for 12:00 noon dinner), the breakfast is a traditional English variant including all the staple requirements, cooked to perfection, the staff as always are friendly, polite and very attentive to new and old customers alike. Whilst the cafe offers many a different choice for weary travellers, and friends rendezvouing alike, starting with breakfast, lunch, afternoon teas and everything in between.

Used to visit this place regularly, however won't be going back! The service and atmosphere has got progressively worse! From walking in the door was made to feel unwelcome, so much so I asked what time they closed to be advised at 4pm it was 3pm (felt like I'd walked in 5 minutes before closing). Was asked not to sit in the part of the cafe near the counter as they were going to clean that area. By the time my friend had arrived and we had ordered and received our coffee and scones which was obviously about 10 minutes later we had been asked on three separate occasions if we had finished with our drinks after this we decided to leave and left by 3.35 pm. NOT a nice relaxing atmosphere for coffee and a catch up I'm afraid!

Although in the village where Iive I had never been here before. I popped in on my birthday with my daughter and grandson for a coffee and cake. I was surprised at how spacious and bright it is. Although busy we were served promptly by the very pleasant stafff. The coffee was hot and a good selection of cakes were offered including gluten free. Very reasonably priced I would certainly recommend the place and fully intend visiting again.

I visited here today as part of a business lunch at a very busy time to meet with work colleagues. I was exceptional impressed at the pleasant manner and customer service we received especially during the busy lunch period!

I visited cafe maison for a catch up with friends and once again I was glad I did! Our order came quickly, the food was delicious and the service was amazing. I have been coming to cafe maison since it opened and it never fails to please! Thank you again to all the lovely staff and if you are thinking of going save room for cake :)

This place is quite pleasant inside and the staff were helpful and attentive on my visit. I was here for breakfast and whilst the choice was not massive, they did a full English at a very reasonable price. The service was quick and the ingredients were of a decent quality, tasty and nicely cooked (apart from the beans, which were lukewarm and somewhat spoiled the overall experience). The coffee was very good.

I visited with my little girl, we are regular visitors and don’t usually have any complaints but when we choose a table in the window (larger than we needed admittedly but the cafe was quiet, loads of empty tables and my daughter said she never gets to sit in the window) then a staff member came and asked if anyone else was joining us, when I said no she told us we had to move to a smaller table! If they were busy I would have understood, although I wouldn’t have chosen a big table if they were busy, I felt like she was on a bit of a power trip and will in future think about other cafes to visit as didn’t appreciate being made to feel like a naughty child!

Cakes are to die for! I wish I could give full makes but recently each time we have visited something has not been up to the normal standard.... Shane really as normally I couldn't fault this place. It's just little things but three times i.e. Something hasn't been quite right..... but the food is great... good portions.... lovely staff ... I will keep going back

I just cannot understand cafes that dish up average food and then expect repeat trade.

We called in today to meet up with friends we don’t see very often and we enjoyed our time at Cafe Maison. Coffee was good, although the latte could have been a bit stronger. The cover on one of the seats was badly torn but we overlooked that. We ordered a scone to share between two of us and, to our surprise, before we asked for an extra plate the older lady with short white hair brought one for us, she must have guessed we were sharing the scone! Service was good and the staff very friendly. The place was packed so it’s very popular and looking around the food looked good.

Visited cafe Maison with 5 friends this afternoon for a birthday afternoon tea. We received a warm welcome and served quickly. The staff could not do enough for us. Cakes and sandwiches absolutely gorgeous. Will definitely be returning. Thank you!

Visited with friends and family and for an afternoon tea in pleasant cafe surroundings, located on the High Street where car parking was free and right outside venue. Eye appealing stand of cakes and sandwiches were served, however the texture and freshness of cakes/scones a bit disappointing. Also when asked whether anyone wanted tea or coffee, when I asked what did they have in regards to tea - Darjeeling? The answer just came back from a male staff member - "What's that?" So on enquiring anything else, just said "No".

Attended today with my friend for a hot chocolate and was pleasantly surprised as the quality of the drink was great and the service by the young man with the Moustache was fantastic very polite and helpful, will attend again!

Took my mam for Breakfast on Saturday. It was a lovely friendly atmosphere. Food was lovely well cooked. Had a little wait but it was cooked fresh which i dont mind. Will certinally be back again soon.

Visited this afternoon, stood for over 10 minutes at counter being completely ignored by staff, was eventually asked by man emptying the till if I was being seen to. After many years working in the hospitality industry, regardless of how busy you are you must always acknowledge a customer, even if it’s to say ‘won’t be long’! Would suggest some customer service training. Will not be returning.

So we arrive at 3.50 with an hour and 10 mins till closing , to the two older women behind the counter shouting as we walk in there's no food , no food , no hot food getting cooked now . As I wanted cake I said that's fine I was only wanting cake to which I received a lovely tut and eye roll . Once I'd placed my order the woman with short bleached hair walked towards the back and said I can't believe they want cake. The attitude and customer service was disgraceful and such a shame and the lady who owns this cafe is lovely . My suggestion would be to get rid of these people as it's a bad reflection on such a lovely place .

Lovely visit today with my mum & daughter, really lovely warm chicken & bacon salad, very generous portion of meat & very tasty. Cakes were amazing as always!

I have visited Cafe Maison on several occasions and have had each time the most pleasant visit. Whilst not huge in side, it caters easily for 40 - 50 people at a time, they like most well liked establishments have their peak hours. Both the breakfast and the scrambled eggs on toast was our culinary delights on today’s visit. Both cooked to perfection, no horrible juice/grease enhanced slosh here. The meals are brought by courteous polite and pleasant staff, always enquiring if they can assist with anything extra to enhance your meal/visit. They serve an array of small to large cake selections, as well as the extensive meal selection. Also a speciality is afternoon tea (not having had it myself), I have witnessed many a satisfied patron enjoying this quintessentially British delicacy. Cafe Maison is a must for all ages.

Friend lives locally and booked a table. Extremely busy and noisy but to be expected near xmas. Usul cafe type menu. Sandwiches and pate chosen. Food delivered in timely manner, well presented and plentiful. Cake to pudding. Large slices of carrot and bannoffe cake..both delicious.

Just asked for 2 cappuccinos and saw the host put instant kenco coffee in a cup before adding some frothy milk!!

We organised a friend’s baby shower for 30 people at the Cafe and it worked very well. One side of the Cafe was reserved for us and we were able to decorate the area in advance. We all had a very lovely afternoon tea and the staff were extremely helpful and couldn’t do enough for us, especially Nathan. Thank you again to the Cafe Maison Team!

A lovely cafe with a lovely selection on the menu. Lovely cakes and selection of drinks. Verry friendly staff, I highly recommend a visit if your in Norton.

Myself & two friends met for a weekly catch up at Cafe Maison.

Perfect late lunch today! Had food off the specials board, homemade cheese burgers with all the trimmings, amazing! We had speciality coffees all round while we waited for our lunch to arrive. Enjoyed our food with a Fentimans and finished off sharing a wedge of chocolate cake. All served wonderfully by Tracy, thanks so much for a delightful dining experience! 10/10

Went for lunch with friends, meal took 40 mins to arrive and not that impressive; garlic mushrooms tasted of vinegar and no table check or a thank you acknowledgement on our departure.

Having frequented this cafe on many occasions, and not having written a report for over a year it seemed poignant to rate my visit. The food, freshly cooked is tasty and well prepared, breakfast is filling and plentyful. Also for the more adventurous are a myriad of different meals stretching through out the day. The cakes and dairy items are exquisite and very appealing. The staff I have always found to be attentive, polite, approachable and just generally nice people. If you have never been and just want a tea or coffee, just pop in, meeting friends just pop in, afternoon tea or lunch is equally available, you get the gist just pop in!!

Afternoon tea was delicious, friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. We will definitely re visit soon

Good choice of light lunch options including salads, quiches, sandwiches, hot paninis and other hot dishes. Pleasant surroundings. Service was ok but staff could be a bit more welcoming.

The coffee and the scones were amazing, but unfortunately the customer service or lack of, I should say lets the establishment down. Staff don't really engage with customers, no eye contact and minimal verbal communication as well.

Had lunch here with four friends. I was late and the group had ordered before I arrived. I asked if my order could be added to our table and my meal was served a couple of minutes after my friends. Thank you t o the staff in the cafe for that.3 of our group ordered a quiche salad, one lasagne and I ordered a hot beef baguette. All the meals were delicious, well cooked and nicely presented.The only criticism I would offer was the cafe was very busy and the noise levels were extremely high, but I can offer no remedy, to change this, but it did make having conversations difficult.

Loved it here! Had the chicken arrabita.. it was a special though!! Think this needs to be added to main menu... chips were DELISH! Was too full for a cake. Only thing if im being picky was garlic bread was a little under.. will be back soon!

Enjoyed lunch with family , even though it was very busy we were given a big table in the window as there was a few of us. Service was very good and didn,t have to wait long for our food.Everything was very well presented and tasted very nice. The cafe is always very clean each time I visit.I think it is good value for money with a reasonable selection on the menu.

This place is good for food and drinks. We had simple sandwich and coffee which was really well made, with care and attention. It took a while but you know it does take time, even to generate a good simple Sandwich.

We enjoyed lunch in this busy high street cafe. Service was efficient even though a queue had built up at the counter to place orders. Our food arrived quickly and was tasty and freshly prepared. A good place to eat!

I used to to visit this establishment regularly, however I'm sorry to say I won't be visiting again. Met with a friend and her son for lunch, we all had drinks and a meal and her son had a dessert. He is only a toddler so it takes him a while to eat his food. We'd finished our meal and we were waiting for him to finish eating. At this point a waitress came over and asked us to move tables as 'they needed our table for somebody else'. I pointed out that the table wasn't reserved and maybe they should have booked a table earlier. The waitress then told me that it is the establishments policy to only allow four bookings per day and these people only have an hour for lunch so could we move. I was appalled at this request as we'd spent around £25 on lunch and the little boy was still eating. I have never been anywhere that has requested we move to let others sit down. Terrible customer service!

Very friendly staff and really good selection of homemade scones, cakes etc. Good selection of light bites for lunch, all made while you wait. Would suggest if you go between 12/1.15 ring and book a table, usually very busy. Nice light and airy space with room to manoeuvre

Visited here for lunch during the working day. I'd called the day before to book but was told they only take 3 bookings a day so as to leave enough tables for the non-bookers. We got there at about 12:15 and there were no free tables, which was fine as were happy to wait. However, we'd been there a good fifteen minutes before any of the staff acknowledged that we were waiting or gave any indication they knew we were there.We did get seated eventually, but only after one of our group approached the counter to ask if we could go and sit at an as yet uncleared table.Once over that blip, we ordered and the food was quick to arrive. The presentation wasn't amazing, but then how much can you really do with jacket spuds and paninis? The food itself was very nice, and the scones and cakes looked amazing. The cafe itself is nicely decorated, clean and comfortable for a quick "pop in" visit.

Another successful visit to Cafe Maison the Cafe has had a tasteful revamp classy modern great choice of colours. Staff friendly food as always great. worth a visit check it out.

Went for breakfast beautifully served, fresh and lovely, worked out the same price as witherspoons but far more superior, service was efficient and polite, lovely cafe ambience, home made delights and not pre bought rubbish.

Staff have attitude, clearly in the wrong job, of serving customers, and if your not English and not off Caucasian skin colour don't waste your time going in there as you will be made to feel not welcomed by the staff, just there general attitude seemed off towards us but ok with the 'English' shame really. The food itself was ok but something you could eat in any average to ok cafe. Costa down the road is were I will stick too nice staff and perfect coffee.

I have regularly visited this coffee shop for a number of years, and have always found the experience to be a good one.This is my youngest daughters favourite place to eat.There is always a good selection on the menu, and although I haven't eaten any, the cakes look amazing. This place is extremely busy & popular most days so I don't mind waiting when we visit.

This cafe is very popular, when I visited we were lucky to get a table without too much of a wait. Once seated we looked through a menu which had a good selection and also on the special boards, everything was very reasonably priced. We both had the quiche which was very generously portioned and had a side salad. Both meals with coffee came to about £13. We both went back for a slice of cake as they looked delicious. They also had gluten free options. We will definitely be returning!

Revisited Cafe Maison, originally for a pot of tea but as always we ended up eating also as the choice and quality is so good.Excellent quality food was had and inexpensive also. I would have gave a rating of 5, the only negative is I don't really want to be waited on by a middle aged gentleman in shorts!Will we return - yes.

Great catch up with my friends. Coffee and a lovely scone. Some had breakfasts which was also really nice. We had a variety of different coffees all hot & very nice. We go in regularly - we'll be back! X

Met my line manager here for a coffee while she was passing and although I don't live far away I've never been in before. I only had a coffee so I can't comment on the food but the the cafe itself was busy and clean (felt a little cramped if I'm totally honest,but not overly so). The staff were pleasant, polite and apologetic (the waitress had forgotten the milk which wasn't a big deal but she apologised and brought some straight away). The coffee was nice and the cups weren't difficult to drink from (like many "trendy" cafes are). The food other customers ordered looked very nice and I will pop back soon and update my review after I've eaten there.

Came with a friend for lunch after hearing good reviews. There was a good choice of meals on the menu and a range of fantastic looking cakes! The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We really enjoyed our lunch and I'm sure will be going back again!

I had a cheese savoury sandwich and a piece of banoffee pie, with a pot of tea. All were lovely. Staff were friendly and polite. Prices were reasonable. I visited the toilet which was very clean also. The hand dryer sounded terrible like it had stones whizzing around in it but there were paper towels available as well. Only reason I've not given 5* is that Staff were all pleasant when addressed, but as I encountered them in passing, they didn't give eye contact or a smile which was a little odd.

This is my favourite cafe I visit at least once a fortnight I am a coeliac it's no problem here I can get everything I like gluten free is not a problem the staff are friendly and more than willing to advice thank You Cafe Maison

What can i say. All the produce is home cooked, scones,cakes and cheesecakes to die for. Specialties of the day advertised on the board. Soups, quiches, paninis, various coffees, teas etc a little gem.Shows how popular it is when i go its usually quite full and often have to wait to be seated.

Really happy to find somewhere local that does gluten free items. Although they did only have carrot cake which my coeliac daughter wasn't too fussed about but enjoyed more than having nothing available like at most places

Always well attended well on our numerous visits. Just a nice cafe with good hot coffee. Nice place to visit and very popular mid day so can be busy.
