Cafe India in South Tyneside

Waited 45 minutes even though we made a reservation.

My husband spotted the ‘new’ chicken Handi meal on the menu and decided to give it a go. It was tasty and not too spicy. Only criticism was the sauce was a bit runny as he’s used to a thicker sauce. I went for my chicken tikka main meal. Mushroom pilau rice and large, well filled naan were the sundries. Deliver was really quick and a money off deal from a well know delivery firm made the meal an excellent choice.

It is an amazing little place we were greeted at the door. Then we were escorted to our booth where we received poppadoms and pickles to eat while we chose our meal. I chose a chicken dansak and pilau rice with garlic Nan bread. All I can say is that it left me wanting more. The food was so rich in flavour and texture. the chicken tender and succulent, I savoured every bite. I can highly recommend this diamond of a restaurant, If you want attention to detail, amazing service and food. Then book yourself a table!

Had a take away on Thursday evening 26th September, must be one of the worst ones I’ve ever had, luckily I’m not local but visit the area for short breaks but won’t visit this restaurant again

Onion bhaji the best ever. Food piping hot. Enjoyed beef balti. Went back again and ordered chicken tikka masala and steamed rice. Delicious. 3rd visit staff curry- lamb on bone (shank, rib, chop) in a delicious curry sauce in a hotpot. Ace

It had been a while since we’d had a curry as we’d been away. The delivery was really quick and piping hot. Naan was big and tasty, rice and chunky chips completed the sundries. Mains were chicken tikka garlic and tikka chicken chilli. Both were great.

Food was tremendous and earlier than anticipated! Will definitely be ordering again.

There were 5 of us at Cafe India. The service was very friendly and the food was good. Would love to come back.

Used this place a bit recently. Quite good! But what I paid under 11 quid for a month ago is now £14.90 for a takeaway. I said that's too expensive. He said the Chicken bhuna curry was 9 quid and he'd applied 20% discount! Won't be calling again.

Normally eat Bhuna from every Indian restaurant and have used cafe India before, this was ridiculously hot! I've had madras not as hot as this, not one of the 3 adults in could eat it! Evening meal ruined, Thanks

Meal/ delivery booked for 18.30 pm as this is when family were due home, the meal was delivered 45 mins early as restaurant confirmed that the new staff member did not look at the under request properly. Not good at all as food had to be reheated,Inc naan and rice

Was spot on tbh would order again, 5 bits of chicken in a dish is a bit stinge but that’s about the only this bad I can say. The tikka masala is lovely

Loved this restaurant, it was cosy with a lovely atmosphere and the staff were friendly and attentive without being intrusive. The food was lovely, tandoori sharing platter was great and larger than expected, mains were massaala and the staff curry which my husband really enjoyed along with veg pilau ,mixed pilau and garlic nans. Probably the best Indian meal we've ever had and at a reasonable price. We will definitely be back soon.

I eat in the restaurant a lot but the takeaway is the same excellent quality. I had a friend over and she said it’s the best Indian meal she’s ever eaten she still raved about it this morning and insisted on taking leftovers home it really was that good couldn’t fault anything

Plenty of choices (menus do need replacing) chicken tikka main meal and chicken tikka jalfrezi, poppadoms, chips, dips and mushroom pilau. More than enough to leave you full. Would recommend

I love this place and so do my friends who visit from down South. Staff are amazing, kind, welcoming, attentive without being too much they get it just right..the food..wow just wow, authentic fresh and sooo tasty, in fact I’m on my way there now to celebrate a 60th Birthday 🎁 xx

Meal was delivered 35 minutes late. Food was cold on arrival. Restaurant declined opportunity to refund part of the cost. Will not use again and will encourage others not to, as well.

The restaurant is warm and welcoming, the staff are great and it's even better to see the owner taking orders and talking to the customers, food is delicious, I drive 30 minutes out to come here it's definitely worth a visit if your close

Food was good but unfortunately they took no notice of my request for no fresh coriander. I couldn't eat my main dish. Should have phoned them to ensure they understood. Lesson learned. ;(

Top quality food. Chicken pakora came crispy and well seasoned, tandoori king prawns tasted really fresh and the lamb in the curry was tender and cooked to perfection.

not the same extra curry sauce sent as curry ordered. have a wasted sauce now. and not enough sauce in our shared meal.

Great food, great service, this is now my favourite curry house in Ocean Road.

I ordered a Lamb Kurma. When I served it up instantly I knew the smell wasn't right, and it tasted like sour milk. The chips for some reason had onions in and the keema naan was tasteless with little to no meat. We called to complain and were given the excuse the lamb would change the flavour of the sauce, however this has been ordered in the past and it was worlds apart from what I received tonight. I would expect, at the very least a refund so I can avoid the restaurant in future.

One of the curry cartons was not correctly sealed so lost one third of the curry in the delivery bag every thing else in the bag was therefore contaminated however must say both curries where very enjoyable and would order again hopefully next time we actually get full curries in sealed containers

Get money off anything is great, but if used for a meal that is delivered really quickly, tasty, ready to eat is a bonus. Can’t fault the food, one we’ll go too again.

We stumbled across this place - we didn't think we'd get in anywhere after the Great North run. We asked, and we got a table straight away. The staff were so accommodating to everyone that walked in. The food was perfect, the staff were so friendly and would definitely go again next time we are up. 😊🫶

A great Indian restaurant on Ocean Road, South Shields. With a good selection of curry houses to choose from, this one is not to be missed. The restaurant has a good decor with welcoming and friendly and helpful staff. The food is great tasting and definitely value for money. I would recommend the duck on puri as a starter, unusual and very tasty. The curries are excellent too.

We popped in to the Cafe India on an off chance of a free table, as we were in the area for a short weekend break. I must say the welcome was warm and the staff even warmer. The food was excellent, the best curries my husband and myself have had in a long time...highly recommended

Well normally this place is amazing but tonight I wasn’t impressed at all, there was like 2 bits of chicken in the curry , the nana bread had no taste to it and the chips where not cooked so they got all left . Over all 100% disappointed and won’t be going back

Phoned to book a table for 6/8 people with 6 day’s notice for a Tuesday night I asked if it would be possible to get a chicken madras made with leg meat on the night the waiter asked the chef who said no it can’t be done ? Yet the do sell tandoori chicken legs on the bone. So we’ve booked elsewhere I’ve used this place many times and always tip well so I’m not knocking the food just the customer service

we always go to this Indian Restaurant we love and like to take different friends to it so they can enjoy it as much as us the food is value for money and plenty of it never ever been disappointed and wont go anywhere else

We have used this place for over 20 years ever since it opened and although we have tried many of the other Indian restaurants in South Shields this still remains very much our favourite. For us that involves a 35 mile round trip but worth it in our opinion. Last night, on the recommendation of the owner Kinhu, I tried 2 new to me dishes :- Cafe Tuk Tuk starter and the Lamb Railway main course which I asked to have Vindaloo Hot. They were both spectacularly good as was my wife's Chicken Tikka followed by Chicken Ceylon. Great food, value for money, polite attentive staff and a nice ambience all make it a very pleasant night out. Well worth a visit. 😊

We have been visiting this restaurant for a few years now and believe the Indian food served here is better than anywhere else in the region. Anywhere else we've visited since just doesn't compare. Presentation, the service but most importantly the food are top class.

We'd never came here before, but tonight we'd booked a table at zeera but when we got there we basically had people sitting on our knees and i got overwhelmed so walked out and went to cafe india instead. And I am SO GLAD we did. It was the best curry weve had on on ocean Road, the peshwari naan was so good I could have just eaten it on its own. I didn't see a Sri Lanka on the menu (I might have just missed it) but they made it anyway and it was delicious. The wine was decent priced and honestly the best pickle tray we've had. After trying all the curry houses on ocean Road this is the one we'll be making our regular. The resturant itself is nicely decorated and cosy, the spaces between tables are nice and music volume is perfect 👌 Staff were lovely too Thank you!

My husband and I ordered a takeaway from here on a Saturday evening. It said they would be 30-45mins which seemed reasonable, but we would have happily expected an hour or so on a busy weekend night. After 80minutes of it not arriving I rang...

Have tried to contact for my order for 40 minutes … not usually like this

Ordered at 18.59 for a 30 to 45 min delivery. Called resturant at 2015 hrs to find out where my order was to be told it had left at 2000hrs. Called back again at 2030hrs and the resturant kept cutting me off, a total of 8 times, before then accepting my call on a private number at 2045hrs. Food STILL not here, was told it was left at 2000 so thats 45 mins sat in a car and still no food. Turned up at 2055, luke warm and rather dull meal. Resturant staff very dissapointing overal with attitude and customer resolution, and also ignorning calls and not getting back to us regarding the very delayed order (2 hours!) Resturant has refused refund or help via just eat, offered a cash refund when food arrived but if we took it, we would not get any food!! Wont be going back here!

Food is always good but there is always something amiss. We always order from here for the chicken tikka pakora which is usually perfect but this time the batter was burnt, half black crispy and tasted of old oil. If ordered in the restaurant it would have been sent back
