My daughter and I found this cafe by accident. Here are our thoughts. 1. too small to allow dogs indoors. 2. could do with a bit of a refresh. The chair pads were stained and there were grease stains up the wall by our table. 3. toilet was very clean but on the first floor which meant climbing some very steep steps. Not disabled friendly. However my daughter who is vegetarian had a really good choice of foods and thoroughly enjoyed her meal. The young staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The coffee was delicious as was my hummus platter with Greek salad. The prices were good and I would highly recommend but I think it could be even better with a bit of a refurb. Didn't get to see the garden as it was too hot to sit outside but from the photos it looks really nice.

We’d been here before for a coffee so came back to cafe fresh for lunch after visiting Mottisfont Abbey. Despite a small hiccup with our order which was quickly resolved, we had some lovely toasted sandwiches. We also had a hot water refill of our tea pot as we’d milk left for more cups. Lovely cafe, very friendly, nice food. We would definitely visit again.

A small cafe in the centre of Romney. Just visited the Abbey and popped into her for a coffee and panini. Simple menu with apple choice. Young and friendly staff. Only negative is allowing dogs in to such a small place is not good when one dog decides to attack another on the way out

What a gem of a cafe. Visited with a very muddy dog and we were both welcomed in, out of the rain. Lovely selection of home made cakes, plus a full breakfast/brunch and lunch menu. The hot chocolate was huge, hot and perfect following a long walk. The cake was a large dlice and to top it off, they gave me free sausages for the dog. What a spoilt pooch!

Americano was average. The cake was dry and the frosting tasted as if it was sweetened Crisco...I chose a cake that was not Vegan, I assumed that meant that the frosting would be a butter frosting, poor assumption on my part. I had a gross taste in my mouth for hours afterwards. Both indoor and outdoor seating is available.

Such a shame that the opportunity to give the whole venue a thorough clean during lockdown wasn’t taken! I had a table in the front next to the kitchen/cooking area. I then noticed the mass of cobwebs next to my corner table, below the really full fly catching device above me. Above the cooking area hang long cobwebs from the ceiling that are now brown with grease and swaying in the breeze. I moved tables. The service and breakfast were fine, which saved this from being a 1* review. Please act on this and get some dusters in stock. It doesn’t take long.

I had jacket potato with cheese and beans and salad and it was the nicest I have had for a long time. I had home made chocolate cake which was similarly noteworthy. The staff are really friendly and it is an independent business, so much nicer experience than the chains that exist in Romsey. Setting of on our journey to Romsey we decided as we hadn't had breakfast earlier on in the morning because we had taken our two Jack Russell's for a lovely morning walk , it was time for our treat . It was a Little difficult finding a parking space as it was mid morning and Romsey on a Saturday morning is very popular as it's market day too . Well we eventually got parked and set off into the town centre it was not long when we stumbled upon the Cafe Fresh establishment, on entering the cafe it was reasonably busy but we had and very nice greeting from the young member of staff who took our order two full breakfast was our treat of course with tea the whole order was under £13 and that includes drinks !! We were in luck the table in the bay window was just being vacated and we love people watching so we had a birds eye view of the square. Soon our pot of tea turned up followed by the lovely looking full English breakfast and tons of toast too the whole meal was excellent value , we will definitely be returning again but I think the dogs deserve a longer walk so we burn off those extra calories.

We had no idea where to eat and as this place was busy enough, in a prime location, thought it would be OK. Hmmm. Staff clearly loathe to move from behind the cabinet. Our table was not cleaned so we ended up flicking off the previous diners egg from the table and dodging the food on the floor. Service was quick and food OK but we were not told at any point we needed to get our own cutlery etc. The air was thick and full of the sound of sound of the staff gossiping to each other. The worst experience was yet to come.. The trip to the toilet. A step back in time. It was eerie upstairs on your own in a disused part of a very old fashioned building. Needs totally refurbishing and redecorating and the tatty unused rooms closing off. It would help if the toilet door wasn't bendy, I nearly ended up phoning for help as I was shut in!

We came to Romsey on bank holiday Monday and our go-to cafe was closed. We decided to try Cafe Fresh again after a slightly disappointing lunch a few months ago. The food this time was better, the chicken panini was particularly nice and the cakes delicious. We were able to get a table in the window which is much nicer than the slightly dark and dingy back area. There were still some minor issues which required a little more attention to detail. For example my husband had a pot of tea but the teapot, mug and milk jug were all filthy. I don't really understand how a milk jug can get brown stains inside! They quickly brought a clean cup but no milk, so we had to ask again. Our friend was given a bacon sandwich instead of a sausage one. None of these were huge issues and were resolved quickly, but after a second disappointing visit i don't think we will be returning.

Decided to stop here for breakfast as my friend had heard good things. When we sat down we felt unable to have a conversation as the place was empty and silent, background music would have created a better atmosphere. Menu very limited and was disappointed with the lack of vegetarian breakfast options. Nowadays the majority of eateries offer a 'veggie breakfast' option but not this one. I asked if I was able to have poached eggs with grilled tomatoes, I was told they could only do scrambled or fried eggs. My friend ordered a full English breakfast and was charged less than I was for my scrambled eggs with tomatoes which took me by surprise. Tomatoes were basically raw and the whole presentation looked lazy and lacklustre. Staff were friendly enough and the place seems like it has great potential but something is not being done right. I do not think they have a trained chef/cook.Maybe this is more of a lunch time place but if you are a vegetarian looking for breakfast/ like well presented food this is not the place for you. Teacups offer a cheaper and miles better breakfast.

They have a wide range of sandwich filings, paninis, jacket potatoes etc. as well as a limited selection of hot food. We ordered a panini and cooked breakfast. Unfortunately service was very slow and it took about 25 minutes for our food to arrive. When it was cooked the waitress walked up and down with it a few times, took it back to the kitchen then eventually came back out and gave it to us - a better system is needed I think! The panini was ok but has too much cranberry sauce for my liking. Breakfast was fine but had very cheap, bready sausage which was disappointing. We probably won't return as there are nicer cafes, such as Teacups, which is cheaper with better service and nicer food.

We ended up in here this morning as Rum's Eg was having a new kitchen fitted. We should have gone with our first instincts and moved on else where. It was cold and felt damp - confirmed by them having to have rice in the salt. The greeting wasn't much warmer. When we asked what eggs they used the answer was "We don't know, we just get them delivered" Followed by "They are free range though as they come from a farm" When asked if the breakfast had a veggie option? "Yes we can take the meat off"Had to help ourselves to cutlery and serviettes and the meal was plonked on the table with little grace. Then a drink was wrong and the waitress argued that was what we ordered. Sausages cheap and tasteless. Not quite sure how they made such a pigs ear of the scrambled egg with smoked salmon either. Lumps of over cooked yolk and over cooked salmon on wet soggy toast. The only redeeming feature was that the bacon was tasty. We like to support local independent businesses but I'm afraid we won't be eating here again.

Nice outlook into the square to watch the hassle and bustle and odd bit of reckless parking, always plenty of entertainment! Unfortunately my last visit I was disappointed. Painfully mine was spilt on my legs, I can tell you it is hot coffee but I wasn't burnt! The person who spilt it on me left me to clear myself up, no offer of help at all! This was irritating but I have never had anything but good service before so I hope it was a one off day. Lovely place to catch up with a friend or just take a break from shopping.

I'm a very strict vegetarian and absolutely hate the idea of meat, so when i ordered my vegetarian wrap and saw how they made it, made me feel sick!!! She used the same chopping board and knife as she did to cut the meat products and didn't wash her hands after handling the food, which is really unhygienic and obviously could be awful for people with allergies! The food is tasty but i am totally put off eating it!

We came here for breakfast en route to an event in Romsey. The service is friendly, polite and efficient. The quality of the breakfast though, as other reviewers have pointed out, is truly appalling. The sausages are clearly 'value' supermarket, the toast comes ready "buttered", the plate amounts to something you might not accept for free, let alone pay £7.00 for. I think that if you can only provide what was probably the worst breakfast we have had in years, then perhaps you should concentrate on where your strengths lie, and abandon this poor, poor effort.

We have visited this establishment in the past and enjoyed it. This time it was really for a late lunch. I enjoy a panini and what I had seemed freshly made with bacon, brie and cranberry - it was very tasty. My wife loves coronation chicken so choose that in a jacket potato. It was well worth a visit.

Don't know where the bad reviews have come from! We Came here for breakfast after staying at a premier inn, so glad we came here. The fresh small breakfast was rather small but just enough for me sausages okay and bacon good, my husband had the big fresh breakfast which looked lovely! Nice big pot of tea, will definitely visit when we come to Romsey! Good value

I visited with my mum for weekday lunch as we didn't find anywhere else to tempt us in Romsey so we picked here. The staff were friendly. Food arrived quickly. We both had jacket potatoes which were well cooked but the chicken in my filling was very dry and the avocado was hard. But I thought prices were good value compared to other places in Romsey. However I do agree with previous comment about the toilet which was located up very narrow steep stairs and upstairs was not heated and not really suitable to use as a toilet for a cafe in my opinion. I don't think I would visit again.

We thought this looked great for a light lunch but were disappointed with the food in particular. Yes, it was what it said on the menu but was hardly cooked to serve to someone who actually enjoys their food. So, average yes but no foodie haunt!

well the staff were helpful, the food was alright and the coffee was good. That's the 'plus' side! On the 'minus' side the star conduct their conversations to customers half way along the shop and they charge £5 for one large filter coffee - that's outrageous!!!!!!!!!! Doubtful I'd return with prices like that!

Went to this cafe when visiting family in Romsey. We went on spec for brunch as we strolled around the town. Three of us chose to order a large Full English breakfast, whilst the fourth member of the party ordered a bacon, chicken and avacardo panini. We were served by a helpful and charming staff member. We were all hungry and eagerly awaited the arrival of the food. It came and was truly underwhelming in so many different ways. The toast was cheap, served with cheap spread. The sausages must have been the cheapest, nastiest sausage like items we've ever seen. The meat content must have been below 10%. The bacon, although cheap, was adequate. The scrambled eggs, again were adequate. The panini was poor, with little filling, especially avacardo. I can only suggest that you invest more money in superior ingredients to provide good quality food to match the good quality customer service. There are many decent eateries in Romsey and you need to offer decent food in order to compete.

Popped in for some take away sandwhiches one lunchtime. It didnt seem that busy but they must've had a few orders backed up because it took quite a long time for just a few sandwhiches. Also, we paid the extra 30p for baguettes, but they are not baguettes, they were soft white rolls, a very different sandwhich expereince to having a baguette!

Visited with a friend for lunch. The staff were lovely, very approachable and helpful, and our food and hot drinks were great! Decent cafe food at reasonable prices. The highlight was enjoying our lunch in the beautiful little garden out the back of the cafe, with blooming flowers, inquisitive birds and just a hint of a view of the Abbey.

Portway Inn, was the best place for breakfats for my family and I. we use to go each week. Todday we were turned away and was told they no longer accept outside customers only residents only. I have taken a picture of each of these. There terms and conditions, there website, their menu and when you walk towards the reception entrance from car park, no where does it say residents only can get breakfast. what a waste of time and fuel. I am so disappointed.

Sadly this pub remains closed. Some work has been done on the building but there is no indication that it will reopen soon. Best to check before travelling. The nearest pub is the Black Horse at West Tytherley which has good reviews.

Lovely pub, full of atmosphere and really old (grade 2 listed with parts from 16th century) we had perfectly cooked sirloin steaks. Ladies in heels beware, the paving between the car park and entrance has some missing pointing with deep gaps, enough to either wreck your shoes or test your ability to resist gravity if it's dark or you aren't watching where you walk. Lovely pub, masses of parking although no disabled parking bays to be found (although there may be one which is almost faded out so hard to be sure) which is a shame and they could certainly add a couple more as if you are disabled the walk across the car park would be too far for most.
