Been here a few times while waiting for busses or just to get out the cold lovely little cafe great service! Nice cakes and lots of seating

This cafe is a lovely environment in the centre of town where I visit often with my baby daughter, we are always warmly welcomed by the staff who all go out of their way to make you feel at home. The aesthetic of the cafe is nice and calming with the array of plants and the art work displayed on the walls. They have a wide variety of food, drinks and lovely homemade cakes and the place is kept clean and tidy!

What a gem! This small cafe is truly a hidden treasure. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it the perfect spot to relax and unwind. The coffee is absolutely fantastic – rich, smooth, and clearly made with care. I tried the pastries, too, and they were fresh and delicious, with just the right amount of sweetness. The staff is friendly and attentive, making you feel welcome from the moment you step in. If you're looking for a cozy spot with great food and drinks, this cafe should be at the top of your list. Can't wait to come back!

Gorgeous relaxing cafe. Extensive menu with plenty of options for vegan and vegetarian diets. Friendly staff who are knowledgeable on the menu and the area 😊 I saw that they have events like comedy improv nights too!!

We called yesterday and ordered two coffees, two sandwiches and sat upstairs. Unfortunately, the service was slow and without a smile. The coffee was decent and the sandwich was fine, but the salad was dire...dry leaves and half a small tomato with no dressing. Worst of all, every surface looked dirty, dusty with food crumbs liberally sprinkled around and it smelt dirty upstairs and down. And ironically, another customer was told that they had opened late as they had been cleaning!

Food is so so, but, service is terrible, on more than one occasion . Won't return ,

Often see this place...from outside looks small and always full. We like to support local so popped in to discover its bigger than we expected. Seating out back and upstairs. No sugar free syrup available. Asked for skinny latte...noticed she used green semi skimmed milk...this isnt skinny. But redeemed herself by the great latte art...coffee was abit on the hot side so the milk was abit burnt ..and husbands had been sat a while, while takeaway coffees were made inbetween making our 2 coffees. Would definitely pop in again though.

It's next to the shops, don't have to walk far.

Great venue for events nice drinks alcoholic and non alcoholic, coffees, nice and clean environment with good seating areas. Staff are real friendly, will be visiting again soon.

Second visit to this lovely little coffee shop and loved it just as much this time round. My daughter struggles with sensory overload and we stopped in here to let her unwind a little. A full hot chocolate was far too much so they very kindly made her a tiny one in a espresso cup - it was the perfect size. They don't have a huge range of cakes which is perfect because you know you're enjoying the one you have without worrying you're missing out on a different one. It's a lot easier to choose from a few options rather than a whole bakery when you stuggle with sensory things. Vegan and low gluten options as well. If you need a coffee, definitely try this gorgeous place out - friendly staff, cosy atmosphere and tasty cake.

Lovely little arty pub, it has live performances, Amatuer comedy sketches and other amazing projects. The tea here is great, higher than usual cafes but well worth the price, they also serve lovely cakes and scones. And the staff are lovely and cheerful. Highly recommend, support your local cafe! X

Visited cafe etch for the Say Something Improv comedy night with friends. Great gig, we laughed chortled guffawed. Friendly staff, delicious cake ❤️

Attended in the evening to watch "Say something Improv" What a wonderful night and atmosphere. Full of giggles, great cake, wine, and coffee. Staff were friendly the Impov was so much fun, with the audience participation would definitely recommend.

I have loved eating at this place. The ambience is fantastic. The staff are friendly and helpful. The only thing I would say is that it so cold. There is one very small heater that barely gives out any heat. I will certainly be going back to try more on the menu in the summer months. The photography exhibition was amazing. The Cafe Etch is amazing. The staff are so friendly and helpful. The food is great 👍 👌. It's certainly warmer now and I will be going again soon

Lovely atmosphere, furnished aesthetically and very cosy feeling. Service is always friendly and efficient, very quick service and the drinks are handmade beautifully as well as the food which is delicious. One of my favourite cafés in Middlesbrough. I didn’t get her name but I was there on Sunday the 4th Feb and served by a new barista starting her first shift and she was superb, very helpful and polite. I went with my dad and he agreed that the place is lovely and he said he would like to come back again in the future.

Popped in for takeaway bacon sarnie and a cuppa to take to the Christmas lights switched on. They've done a cracking job of the place, service was excellent and the bacon sandwich was top class, bacon cooked to perfection. We'll definitely be back.

The first time I have been here was a perfect place to meet up with a friend. The rooms are decorated differently and you can choose where you want to sit. The staff are polite and very friendly I've come here a few times perfect cafe for a quick meal. The milkshakes and drinks can be made with plant ingredients if needed and they offer vegan cakes.

So I've eaten here a few times and the food is lovely. However the service is atrocious. I ordered a burger chips, coffee and a coke. I had to ask for a glass with the coke. I had to get sugar from another table. I had to ask for salt as none at the table. I had to ask for cutlery as I was given none with my meal. Also when asking for something that should be provided naturally the response is lackluster.

Very friendly and kind staff, gorgeous coffee and perfect BLT and toasties. Makes a refreshing change from the souless chain cafes.

I highly recommend it. The cafe has a wonderful atmosphere and a good selection of drinks and deserts. It's very cheap considering the excellent quality of food and drinks they offer. I tried a few types of coffee and tea drinks and they were all great! The staff is is great and very friendly. There's good free WiFi if you're working while having coffee. I've tried a few of the options on the menu and they were all very nice. I only wish there were more healthier options and also the chance to upgrade the fries to salad. More salad options would be appreciated.

Great little cafe, lovely coffee. Nice toasted teacakes and bacon buns. Not tried anything else yet, but the cakes always look nice. The staff are young and very friendly and helpful. I go in quite a lot.

Food is very tasty and well presented. But the service feels rushed. They had not removed drinks off the menu that they did not have in stock. Also had an issue with them mixing up dairy free cheese and regular cheese as my wife can not have dairy. Thankfully they resolved the issue

It's quiet, pleasant, slightly "kitch" coffee shop. Opening hours in the week aren't great. Coffee is good, food menu is small but what they do, is done well. Definitely stands out amongst the rest of the drash in Middlesbrough.

Pleasant corner coffee shop. Cool vibe, nice music, decent coffee and an awesome burger and chips which surprised us for how good it was. We gave a 10/10. So you must try it!

Brilliant. Great selection of vegan/vegetarian food.clean and friendly. If of limited mobility, toilets are upstairs,but I'm sure help would be at hand. Recommend orange cake 😋 Prices a normal rate for good service.

Great little coffeeshop with a wonderful vibe. I couldn't stay for long, but my drink was prepared in just a couple of minutes. Plenty of good looking cakes at fairly normal prices behind the counter too. I'll definitely be returning for a sit down coffee and a cake next time in in Middlesbrough!

Had a love lunch with my sister the coffee was amazing and food delicious. Been going there on and off over the last 4 years and the quality has never changed its always been amazing.

Very quirky and popular cafe... seemingly, the new place to be... Great food and friendly service. Personally, one of my favourite things is the name... most people won't know that for nearly all of the buildings life, it was an engravers. The cafe is now called Etch, which I think is a lovely way of remembering its history. Decor inside is very quirky and interesting, it's nice that they have kept so much of the building. We'd highly recommend 👌🏼

Style over substance and overpriced Ordered a Diet Coke for £2.60 was given a 200ml glass mixer size bottle. A lot of establishments do this now and I feel it’s underhand especially as size is not stated on the menu. Regular cup of tea £2.60 (1 teabag hot water and a splash of milk) We ordered 2 cheeseburgers and fries to share. Order took nearly 30 mins to arrive. The burgers were the frozen kind you get of a nightclub Chuck wagon drenched in American mustard and Ketchup. The side salad was two cherry tomatoes, 3 slices of cucumber and two limp bits of days old rocket with zero dressing topped off with 8 tortilla chips thrown at it. Just no care or attention given. The french fries again were the frozen type standard. Total bill £26.00 Guys if your going to charge prices like this in Middlesbrough for such poor quality food. I worry for your future. Lovely decor and ambience doesn’t make up for the poor standard of food and the exorbitant prices your charging. An extra star for the friendly staff and atmosphere. I know times are difficult for establishments in the hospitality sector but really £26 quid i feel like I’ve been mugged

I've visited as the place always looks busy so thought it maybe popular. Took 20 minutes to receive a single mocha and a piece of cake, there were 5 other customers so weren't exactly busy. Food choice was very limited, eating utensils were dirty with remnants of food. A staff member was openly slating members of staff that were no longer there to a customer. Very unenjoyable, uncomfortable and disappointing. Unless you want slow service, enjoy eating from dirty utensils and wish to listen to members of staff gossiping instead of clearing tables then I'd avoid visiting

Lovely staff, great coffee with vegan and gluten free cakes. A nice cafe for lunch and a meet up. The cafe has a downstairs with tables and chairs, upstairs has sofas and coffee tables and a record player in which you can help yourself with putting music on.

Nice and sunny sitting outside. Shirt staffed waited 20 mins for coffee and breakfast bun? Another couple didn't know whether to wait or just go,??? When the food finally came was enjoyable. 👍

Popped in for a coffee and sausage bun. Good value at £5, although disappointed with the cheap bread roll (would have expected something more artisan in a place like this), although the 2 sausages were great. Good selection of coffees, AND both bottled beers and a draft real ale. Place was neat and tidy, although when I used the upstairs loo found the seat was loose!! (Didn't report to staff as the solo man on duty was busy). Nice all the same, and great to sit with a coffee, a paper, and watch the strange world of Middlesbrough pass the windows!!

I felt the service was slow therefore the food was cool. I was disappointed with the tea as it had a weird taste also I had to ask for utensils as the waiter forgot. I will be avoiding the place from now.
