Busy cafe in the heart of Tavistock where parking can be a challenge. There is a counter at the front in the shop part and a cafe at the back which tends to be busy especially at peak times. The treat is a crodot - a cream and variously decorated cake that is a cross between and croissant and a doughnut. Half each might be enough for some people. Don't go too late or you'll miss them.

We had our first visit at 'Coffee and Cream Patisserie' on a lunch time in Tavistock and picked the lunch offer. The tartlet I had was delicious and the coleslaw the best I've tasted. I loved the relaxed feel of the place and would highly recommend a visit.

Shop looked lovely and had range of very nice desserts. It was one of few places open so we grabbed a milkshake. Pretty disappointed as it was literally just milk and at £2.75 I could have made that myself with some cheap mix. Expected it to be thick and tasty due to Cornish ice cream they sell. Would go back to try a cake but milkshakes no.

As visitors to Tavistock we asked a lady selling hats in the Pannier Market where we could go for a nice coffee and cake and she recommended Coffee and Cream. We weren't disappointed. Ducked into Coffee and Cream to escape the weather and found a cute little café which is obviously quite popular with the locals as it was very busy. It depends what you are looking for, but I love this place it's old fashioned and quirky with little tablecloths and doillies on the half dozen or so tables in the back of the shop and often there is jazz music playing in the background. If you want to sit in a cafe and be ignored, this is the place to go.My husband and I sat patiently at a table waiting to be served. The lady serving at the counter didn’t acknowledge us, she was very busy, so the benefit of doubt given here! However, the other lady member of staff managed to clear away the table opposite us, and walk past us on two occasions without even asking if she could help us or if we were being helped already!Poor service, shame - seemed nice, will never know now.We went next door to the Oggy Oggy Pasty shop, service was fab as was the pasty. Stopped here for a bit after looking around the shops. 8 of us so difficult to get tables together. Only one member of staff who seemed very rushed off her feet, having to sort out those eating in, those taking away, ice cream and dishes, felt very sorry for her. Food was delicious but slow service as there was just the one member of staff. Inside was quite dark too, and it appeared to be a bit of a too quiet place for a large group of us to be in.

We came by this morning looking out for somewhere pleasant for a pit stop well before lunchtime. The door was open, the awning out but looking very weathered. No one sitting in any of the visible seats, some one standing indifferently behind the counter and both the front trays in the window and this inside the shop all looking barely a third stocked of worse. (Maybe a customer had just been in to cater for a large celebratory tea ot drinks session?). It just all looked a bit sad and uninviting - which was a pity.

Arrived out of the rain for a warm hot chocolate and scone. Similar to other reviewers, I was ignored and then finally the waitress, with no apology for why I had to wait, no greeting to smile, just a look of "What do you want?". I ordered a hot chocolate. "A dark one?" I was asked. "Which ever is the normal one. Milk?" I said. "Dark is the normal" I was corrected, as if everyone knows this. Got a similar response when asking about the scones. "Fruit" was the full extent of their contents.Very little eye contact given.Sat down and was served a lovely hot choc with marshmallows. Was about to dig in when I scooped some up only to find that it was completely off- rotten!I approached the counter and quietly and embarrassedly told them. "I'm not sure if its just me, but I think the milk may be off in the hot chocolate"With no eye contact, It was taken off rather hastily me and I was told I would be brought one with no cream. No apology and a big sigh- it was made to be my fault.I was brought a new drink which tasted less than average as hot chocs go. I was later asked with no eye contact again, "How's that one?" as the waitress busied by without stopping to another table- she couldn't have cared less whether it was any better. I was then told "The unsweetened cream doesn't agree with some people"- i.e. it was my fault that I didn't like off cream. The cream was not unsweetened, it was off.The replacement hot choc was not nice and the scone was average- which could be forgiven if the waitresses were nice.Wouldn't go back.

Happened to be visiting Tavistock the other day and got tempted by the lovely window display. We bought a few biscuits to eat right then, and on asking the person at hand would they run out of things before Christmas, we were told that yes they would. So foolishly enough we bought quite a few of the very nice looking biscuit packs as gifts for family and friends. As I handed my card over, a little voice in my head was pointing out I should have tasted my take away biscuits before proceeding to Christmas shopping... Anyway, to cut a long story short, the biscuits are as dry as the person who served us... And that's no mean feat. They made me crave a good old pack of digestives. Can't vow for the food and drinks as I didn't sit down... But then, quite frankly, I'm glad I didn't. AVOID!!

We have visited several times recently for their lunchtime special which we consider to be great value and the coffee is excellent, sometimes service is a bit slow but with comfortable seating and low volume background music is acceptable.Like other visitors I feel that staffing levels do need sorting, last Sunday we went for a coffee, unfortunately I was left standing at the counter without any acknowledgement of my presence for far too long, there were 2 young people on duty and I think their inexperience showed, a simple "be with you in a moment" or even a hallo might have made it OK but I felt distinctly uncomfortable and ignored, I hope the owners read this and act on it because should it happen again I for one will think about going elsewhere, even though they probably have the best coffee in Tavistock - I like to feel like a valued customer and it is not as though there are few alternatives in town.

I often come here as it's peaceful for a coffee and cake. One of the best patisserie's I have ever been in. It has a lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and delicious food and drink. It isn't cheap but definitely worth the money! Better than the Costa down the road by far.

I visited on Wednesday. There was a it of a rush for some reason, so I knew I had to wait patiently. However, I gave my order and again, waited patiently. The coffee and cake when it came, were excellent. The competent and cheery young lady behind the counter was great, but she did need some support! There were quite a few people coming in and waiting a long time. I get the feeling they swop the staff with Crebers as and when, as it's owned by the same people. However, the little cafe is lovely and cosy inside and a least the staff make contact and apologise if you're being kept waiting. They seem to need to get their staff numbers sorted out. But it was a lovely cafe and I would certainly visit it again.

We visited this nice little patisserie for a snack lunch as a change from pasties and other filling fayre. For £4.95 each we could choose from an individual quiche or a ciabatta roll (choice of fillings) accompanied by homemade coleslaw and crisps. This price also included a large jug of tea, served unusually in a cafetiere. The food and service was very good - it was served with just the right speed and friendliness and the small cafe area was full for most of the time we were there. This is only called a patisserie, so doesn't serve a huge choice of things for lunch. The cakes etc looked very good, as did the boxes of goodies for sale ( perhaps next time we will buy some to try!). It was a very nice experience and will definitely return to this cafe next time we are in Tavistock.

Cakes and coffee were very good, service was attentive, if a little slow. I put it down to the place being quite new and the management finding their feet. Don't think it was the expensive, but certainly wasn't cheap. Would return.

Lovely little coffee shop and patisserie on the high street in Tavistock. Great selection of cakes and chocolates and also quirky gifts to take away. Service was good and pricing reasonable for the quality on offer.

I go here regularly when visiting Tavistock. It has a genteel atmosphere and the cakes and coffee are very tasty . It reminds me of a patisserie I go to in the French Alps. Service is good - occasionally slow.

have been twice now and the coffee is good, cakes look great as are the prices of them but on par with the look of a good French patisserie, their lunch options although a bit limited look good so we will have to try.Possibly the best flavour coffee in Tavi!

Although this is a relatively new business compared to other established cafés in Tavistock, it has a good reputation for good coffee, and the cakes are scrummy. They also sell lovely biscuits that I've given to friends and family as gifts. The staff although a little stretched at times are always polite and helpful too. Recommended

Has a nice window with tempting pastries, chocolates and biscuits but can be pricey. Service can be slow and confusing, table service or order and pay ? We were told to take a seat, but then after a wait had to ask if we paid first or were served at the table.Inside the surroundings are a strange mix of styles, but overall the food and coffee were reasonable.

The food and coffee here is a delight and the staff are pleasant whilst somewhat unfocussed! We visited and our excellent coffee came fairly quickly but they then seemed to find it impossible to scoop two pastries out of the window. Still the quality of the food excuses all.

Having only gone to Tavistock for the pannier market, we hadn't planned on stopping we decided at the last moment to have afternoon tea, having remembered a friend telling us about this great little coffee shop they found but couldn't remember the name. We soon found the patisserie and where surprised by the range of goodies and delights as well of teas and coffees on display, tempting ones taste buds. Having order we found a our table situated at the rear of the shop decorated in a nice homely comfortably feeling where your able to read the papers or a book without that rushed feeling, so well worth a visit.

After a recommendation from a friend we found this little patisserie. Charming smiling welcome. Relaxed but quick service. A large jug of excellent tea served quirkily in a cafétier. It was a real pleasure to try the little 'cookies' as you get four or five for the price of a piece of gateau elsewhere (though I restricted myself to 3).Yes the café area is small but that is part of its charm. Hopefully they will be able to expand onto the pavement in better weather which will bring more life to the area. We will definitely return and also buy the boxes of cookies as a great alternative to the sadly predictable boxes of Thorntons for small gifts.Positives? Food, drinks, service, interior style.Negatives? I can imagine this little gem could become very busy and so some may be disappointed but this is no reason to criticise an excellent concept/product.

The cake in this small coffee shop is simply to die for, rich and extravagant although you may like to take out a mortgage as you certainly pay for the quality - that said as a special treat it is worthwhile!!! The downside is the facilities and service, the shop is tiny and the layout poorly planned so you are squashed into a small seating are at the back, there is no indication as to how to order so as in the majority if English tea shops we took our seats and awaited table service. The remainder of our stay was a little reminiscent of an episode of faulty towers, the owner is not English and he likes you to queue with your order at the shop till, at this stage you get tied up with people using the shop facilities and in the meantime someone else takes your table. My advice buy some cake take it home and enjoy in an environment which is less chaotic and pretentious - avoid the homemade biscuits, they looked fantastic had a best before date of May 2014 but were soggy and stale tasting as I said at the start the cake is to die for!!!!

This has become our trusted coffee and pick-me-up pastry place in Tavi. Their coffee is excellent and the pastry- I don't understand how there can be so much difference between one almond croissant and the next, but somehow there is and believe me, these are worth the visit. Better go in the morning though because in the afternoon they almost definitely all gone. The cakes are not quite as good - a bit too much hoofs in the raspberry one, tasty but there is such a thing as tough jelly... The chocolates were nice but nothing to write home about. Very nice apple pie that I envied off my partners plate. The ambience is sweet although it can be a bit dark on a bright day as there's no windows. We go with our baby and while there is no high chair, there are plenty charming older ladies and gentlemen to coo over him which makes up for it.

I really want to like this café but every time I visit I come away disappointed.I moved to the area in the summer and visit Tavistock on a regular basis. It's a pretty café located in the centre of town and it's very popular with locals and tourists; customers are often queuing to get a table. I've visited this café on several occasions. The produce on display is excellent, however on most of the occasions I've visited I've found the staff rude and the service incredibly slow. I visited recently and upon arrival the counter was unattended. A lady arrived a minute later, ignored me, went behind the counter to do something before eventually returning to the counter to serve me. No welcome, no smile, no hello, no apology for keeping me waiting or an explanation as to why it was left unattended. I received a filthy look and then asked what my order was. I took a seat and then had to wait 10 minutes for a basic coffee. All the other customers in the café appeared to have received their orders and no one was in front of me in the queue.I've worked in the service/hospitality industry and it doesn't take a lot to be polite. It's a shame as the décor is lovely and the coffee and cakes are wonderful. It just needs to sort out its staff and service issues.

Unfortunately this restaurant did not live up to expectation. It was very local to us but unfortunate ly we were not tempted to return there. The establishment has now closed and become a private residence.

A special dinner to celebrate 25 years of the village orchard- and the Drake came up trumps as always. Being a non-meat eater, a special fish dish was produced just for me, and it was superb, with sea bream and samphire- absolutely delicious. Full marks to the Drake Manor Inn
