I almost never leave reviews, but I felt I had to because I felt so ripped off here. I'm a local and had time to kill before work so I popped in for lunch. The staff were friendly and the service was quick, but I got the smallest piece of avocado toast I've ever seen for a tenner. I'm still hungry. I sort of knew it would be a mistake to go somewhere touristy but now I know I definitely won't be back. There are nicer places on Cockburn Street, never mind the rest of the Old Town.

Visited this quirky-looking cafe on Cockburn St with my daughter. The waitress behind the counter was pleasant and directed us to a choice of tables. My daughter wanted an iced tea, but this wasn't available (no syrup apparently) but they were able to do an iced latte. I ordered tea and a slice of coffee and walnut cake. I couldn't quite believe that this all came to £12.60. I think the tea was £3.55 which means the latte and cake came to £9.05. I thought to myself this cake had better be good. It wasn't. It was as dry as dust and hard as a brick. Clearly, it had been sitting out on the counter all day. We couldn't eat it. No one seemed interested in whether or not our food was ok. As we sat with our drinks, we observed the counter. The staff seemed more interested in cleaning the kitchen area than on any interaction with the customers. The older women was quite brusque, and when two Asian ladies left the cafe to sit at a table outside, after they had ordered, I could hear the staff make a disparaging comment about them, calling them rude. They then went on to slag off German tourists as being very rude. All this we could hear and we really felt they should keep their opinions private. My advice is to avoid this place. It's overpriced and customer service is poor. Quality of food doesn't appear to be great either. I think they will probably entice unsuspecting tourists in. We will not be back.

I’ll be honest with everyone, i ordered avocado eggs benedict, took a while to come out and when it did the eggs were lit rally hard. the plus was that the workers were nice about it when i asked to get new ones because let’s be real who’s having eggs benedict with hard eggs, not me that’s who!!! it’s pricey for what you get and it’s nothing really spectacular i feel like there is better places for your money

It is a very nice café – very cozy and great décor and the staff is very friendly. The coffee was good, but the toast and bagel were toasted way too much and there was not a lot of filling so it was so dry and not very tasty. There are many other nice cafés on the street.

Worst breakfast I’ve had in a long time. Eggs were not cooked enough and some cooked too much. £8.75 for one small slice of sourdough and two poached eggs? The food came out before we had our drinks. I’d finished eating as it arrived. My friend asked for some soy milk and the blonde woman rudely, almost shouted, no. There was quite clearly some alternative milk on the counter. She seemed like she was having a bad day and taking it out on her customers.

We are here and had a very different experience to the previous posters.Lovely to sit outside and watch the people go by.Two negatives ,1 they had every other kind of egg apart from scrambled and when asked they said they couldn't do scrambled eggs and 2 cooked breakfast was completely covered in mixed herbs completely unnecessary and did nothing to enhance the taste of the food.

Probably the most miserable cafe I have ever frequented. We entered what appeared to be a nice cosy establishment, sat down and waited... and waited. We eventually got the menu we had to request, a crumpled, well used, dirty A4 sheet. The menu looked fairly promising so we forgave their reuse of dirty paper. Ordering, we eventually discovered was by walking up to the counter full of tempting looking cakes and attempting to attract the attention of customer avoidant staff, zero eye contact and the personification of misery, however, I forged ahead and asked if I could order. The waitress silently turned behind the counter and walked to the far end and stood at the cash register, apparently I was supposed to follow. Order placed and paid for I sat down. First the coffee arrived, nicely presented and fairly good, a pity about the ugly chipped metal spoon on the side. Then the main event, 1 fry up and 1 eggs benedict. The fry up: half the plate was filled with a chorizo style greasy sausage, a couple of shreds of fried mushroom and the remaining mediocre fry, and the other half of the plate was inexplicably taken up by a horridly bitter mismatching drizzle of balsamic vingear? Why? The eggs benedict, again half a plate taken up by a drizzle of balsamic vinegar, the other half a small slice of white loaf with two over cooked dry yolked eggs and a watery yellow teaspoon of sauce. Sadly after that nothing could tempt me to stay and try one of the cakes that drew me in the door. Verdict: The most miserable, avoidant staff I have ever seen, not just one staff member but every single one including the chef. And a greasy fry, overcooked dry eggs, a lack of sauce and inexplicably half of every plate reserved for a zig-zag drizzle of bitter balsamic vingear. My advice: Avoid! Overpriced, over cooked, and customers over looked.

Unfortunately one Sunday morning in September I needed a substantial breakfast and chose this establishment. The hefty £9:50 for a "full breakfast" or exorbitant £3:25 for tea should have stopped me, but I felt charitable. The meal that came was tiny: a couple of very thin rashers of fatty bacon, a half cooked ugly inedible red sausage, one over-cooked egg (instead of the two as advertised), a small plank of awful sourdough (why do we allow this masquerade of bread in Britain?), a spoonful of cold baked beans, some tiny chopped mushrooms spoilt by balsamic vinegar (?), a tiny but ok hash brown, and two tiny hot ok tomatoes. Being English - and having already paid - I didn't complain. So this review berates me too. O, reader do not sympathize with my experience, but don't pay until you get a plateful of food you are satisfied with in this establishment. Whether you take the (high) risk of trying it out is up to you. I won't darken its doors again.

This business has rebranded and now called Coffee ‘N’ more. We went here whilst we were on a visit to Edinburgh which is regular for us . We saw this re brand and thought we would give it a try. The kids saw Nutella and banana smoothie which they normally enjoy but this was just a small piece of Nutella to colour the iced water and very little taste of banana. 1 of the smoothies was thick and one was like water so we asked for another. This was free of charge but neither kid drank it as it was disgusting. At £4.30 each that was money down the drain. The pancakes were nothing startling my panini wasn’t toasted properly a d the breakfast was nothing to write home about. At just under £50 for 4 people this was very overpriced and the food was low standard. Don’t think I will be back

We stumbled on this little coffee house. Its got a good menu and the coffee is really really good, i believe the owners are from South America, Columbia and there is a Turkish lady who helped us with some coffee to buy, lost the receipt with her name but she was lovely, very friendly and told us all about the coffee. She made the hour we had just chilling very memorable and we left feeling as if we spoilt in the cafe. The french accordion music was good too So many cafes are becoming same same, its the staff and quality of goods at this place that makes it different and it smashes it on both counts.

The waiter was a young lady who managed to keep all of our orders in her mind without writing it down - which I found fascinating. Food quality and taste both outstanding, service was fast. The coffee was outstanding also. Toilet very clean. They welcome disabled people also. It’s about 5 minutes walk away from the train station. Good location to reach the castle and newtown also. Popped in for light lunch during visit to Edinburgh. Cafe is in good location just behind Waverley Station. It is cramped but with a rustic feel. We ordered 2 small breakfasts (pleased that they offer the breakfast all day when lots of places don't). Quality of the food was not great, weird sausage fried after being cut in half - tasted more like chorizo than a Scottish sausage, 2 slices of cheap, dry bacon and toast was floppy white bread with margarine on it. We had to try to get the waitress's attention to get some ketchup and no salt or pepper on tables either. My friend's coffee was small when we had ordered large so it had to be changed. They have a large menu so could probably do with cutting it down and doing fewer things better. However, guess they probably just rely on tourists so it seems they don't care if people come back or not. We certainly won't.

The menu was huge, but then we realized you could only have one half before 1pm, and the other half after. We went for the burgers, came quickly, was hot, potato wedges were nice, but then at £17 each I would hope so. My husband ordered a coke £4! And I had a small glass of wine £9! Both were unchilled, no ice, I wondered why all the other tables just had tap water. When I got the bill, 3 cokes had been added, I always check my Bill's... was this genuine mistake or aimed at people who don't check. Enjoyed it, although it was your average cafe burger, for that price I will make sure I book into a nice, similar priced restaurant next time!

After enjoying our trip to this cafe when we last visit Edinburgh we were really looking forward to returning! Sadly, we were left disappointed. The cafe itself is in a great location and we enjoyed our fruit smoothies. We we were informed that there were no more potato scones left which and were offered an additional choice to replace this. My husband asked for no bacon or tomatoes on his large breakfast and he was given the bacon and tomatoes but none of the other additions (mushrooms, beans etc). The waitress explained that they had run out of the other ingredients and I have to say neither of us enjoyed the food we were given - it seems the main ingredient was paprika sprinkled over everything. If we had been informed about most of the missing ingredients we would have ordered something else or perhaps gone somewhere else for breakfast. Some members of waiting staff were just sat on their phones. When we asked for a credit card receipt we were told that the bill was the receipt and they didn’t provide anything else. All very strange, disappointing, and unprofessional. Sorry to say we won’t be returning.

We walked in after a long day sight seeing. We were very warmly welcomed. Great service. Food was excellent. The interio was very unique and rustic...very enjoyable.

We stopped by here on a weekend in Edinburgh as it was just round the corner from our hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful, the cafe has a warm and characterful atmosphere. Loved the mezzanine full of eggs! Food was super, especially the warm pitta and hoummous: best hangover remedy! A recommended place to snuggle in on a wet afternoon. Service was a bit slow, considering the small number of tables and the relatively high number of staff but the food was worth waiting for. I was in two minds about the fact that our little table was right next to the open bin, it was unpretentious but then again, a bit nasty! Overall though, I'd recommend stopping by.

Some friends and I had breakfast here twice on a weekend visit to Edinburgh. We had various options from a bacon butty (with a spicy and parsley butter twist) to a full breakfast. It was delicious and tasty with the addition of some slightly spicy ingredients that pepped it up so the food rose above the standard café fare. The coffee which accompanied the meal was good and the people friendly. The situation, just off the royal mile, was ideal for us as we visited a convention at The Pleasance and we were travelling in from Dunfermline (so ravenous by the time we got to Edinburgh). I would eat there again when I next visit the city.

A beautiful first impression for our first visit to Scotland. The food was great with a fantastic price to match. The whole cafe had a very homely atmosphere and the owners have great music taste. We'll definitely be coming back here again.

14 pound notes for a meagre chicken burger with frozen potato wedges. Also note they have refilled the branded ketchup bottles, with an inferior, cheap and nasty alternative. Something I am sure, breaks some kind of rule in the trade descriptions act handbook. Save your money and get to Maccies!!

My 3 friends and I found this lovely little cafe when we were looking for somewhere to have breakfast, we were served by a lovely friendly young lady who couldn't do enough to help us, the breakfast was delicious and presented beautifully , if you're not a fan of paprika please tell them because it is sprinkled on yr toast. Even tho it is small they have made good use of all the space. I am gonna say if you walk on past this diamond of a place then you are missing out on some wonderful food and hospitality. They loved my multi coloured shirt so I said I would mention it in my review.

Delicious full breakfast, I have travelled the world many times serving on Royal Air Force 10 Squadron and The Royal Flight and I can sincerely say that was one if not the best breakfast I have had, and my gorgeous partner agrees, and she is quite a critic! Recommended all heartedly 10 out of 10

Called in here during a brief visit to Edinburgh. Found Cafe Cockburn, just off the Royal Mile, to be a perfect spot for a quiet coffee break and catch up on the WiFi.

We ate here before the Lion King with the VIP Ambassador Lounge deal and it was all very good . I had read some of the negative reviews and was a bit wary after booking but it was a really nice experience. The food was fine , we had chicken skewers and soup and burgers and there was no complaints , but the service was excellent . The girls who served us were efficient and very friendly. They took us up to the lounge and again we had friendly service . All made for a great night , well done

We popped into The Milnes Bar to use the loo and asked if we could fill up our water bottles. The staff were incredibly accommodating and happy to help, which we really appreciated. It’s always nice to come across a place that’s welcoming, even for a quick stop. Thank you!

Over priced and food was under whelming definitely not worth the money. Staff clearing tables were trying hard to keep on top of things but were very obviously under staffed. Staff serving behind the counter were rude and insisting people pay by card as they had no change. If you can't accommodate people paying by cash put up a sign advising people before they choose their food. Would not use again.
