Now a small restaurant at the side of a pub in Shipston, I imagine that like us, most people order takeaway food from Chutneys. The starters and mains we ordered were excellent, really tasty and it'll take a few more visits to decide if this is better than the improved Shipston Bengal, which it may well be.

Much loved Indian restaurant moved from Stratford to Shipston-on-Stour; the extra drive is still well worth it. Lovely food, same friendly staff for over 20 years. The new location attached to a pub is a smaller venue than previous so they've had to down scale covers, but that's cosy and we'll keep returning, though we expect they will return to Stratford soon, they only left because of a new road/development on their plot. We dined tonight there. Service excellent, food arrived fast, consistent high quality curry, thank you.

We have been coming to Cafe Chutneys for 20 years and have over this time tied Indian food all around Stratford upon Avon and the surrounding areas.but we still believe this is still the best Indian restaurants! Not only is the food amazing you always have a very friendly welcoming experience. Make sure you try Cafe Chutneys.

We had not booked but were welcomed into the establishment. Quite a large restaurant so good for large groups of people. A good comprehensive menu and choice of wines. Friendly and helpful staff. Overall a good evening here. Unless you are a local, you will need a car to get to this - they do have a large car park. The only reason 4 out of 5 is that the chutneys we had looked very tired and lacked flavour.

Having eaten there in the past we decided to have a takeaway from chutneys, it was nowhere near as good as it used to be and we ended up leaving and wasting most of it as it not very nice at all. Won’t be going there again.

We’ve been to Chutneys many times and generally like their food. We have takeaways sometimes too but the last three times we have ordered there has been something wrong every time, despite going through it multiple times because of previous mistakes. Customer service also rather lacking in sorting it out. Time to go elsewhere.

My family and I have been visiting Chutneys for years but last night will very much be our last visit after the most appalling service. We ordered over the phone as Just Eat wasn’t working, to which we were told we could do the special deal of £15.95 even though it was a Friday night. This was not the case when it came to collecting and paying for the food. The bill we were given was £41.90, which was incorrect it should have been £34.95 with an extra naan on the deal. The rude waiter abruptly told me they didn’t do the deal at the weekends even though 30 minutes earlier we were told we could. He then went off with a calculator and came back with a bill of £39.85 which again was wrong, he then told me at the weekend the special deal was £17.95 and we have to pay extra for poppadums and dips even though they are included in the deal. I was then pretty much thrown a menu which I proceeded to work out correctly our total which was still £34.95. The waiter appeared angry and not at all willing to refund the difference we had been over charged. It was more out of principal that I ask for it to be reimbursed. At this point many diners were looking in his direction due to his angry tone of voice and clear hostility against a paying customer. In the end I told him to forget it, but will not be returning. I cannot believe how down hill the service has become, ive never been spoken to in such a manner from a member of staff at a restaurant. Thankfully the food was great, but unfortunately due to the rude and aggressive staff we will not be returning. Avoid at all cost!

I’ve eaten Indian food in the UK for over 50 years, but this the best Indian cuisine I have ever tasted.

After the lockdown, you'd think every restaurant was making the effort to welcome people back. My partner has been coming here for years, and the food has been great on our previous visits, but tonight I found that everything had dropped in quality. We waited over an hour to get out main courses, and then mine was really average. I don't know if it's because the collection orders take priority, or the staff team are too stretched, but it wasn't the same experience we've had before. The table next to ours sat uncleared for well over an hour, and the building has some tatty bits which could have been done with the extended closures we've seen I'm not asking staff to bow down and praise everyone for making the effort to go there, but it's nice to feel appreciated. What should have been a good night with tasty food in smart surroundings just didn't happen.

I’ve lived in Stratford upon Avon for the last 33 years and other than during Covid lockdown periods I love to eat out. Over the past 12 years, I’ve reviewed Cafe Chutney several times, and until my penultimate visit, I’d always given them glowing reviews but, my last review was anything but that. Nevertheless, when the most recent Covid restrictions were lifted I thought it had to be worth another try, I really hoped that it was back to the Cafe Chutney that I'd known and loved. . A big mistake. I chose a weekday evening, and as other places, I’d recently eaten in were rammed and worked on a bookings-only basis I fully expected Cafe Chutney to be busy. It wasn’t, this was 8.00 pm, normally their busiest time. This is a very large restaurant, I’m not sure how many covers it can handle but my guess is at least 100. There were no more than around 10 other diners, this should have rung an alarm bell ( why was it so empty when other places we full) but it didn’t. Normally, at this time it should be very busy, but it wasn’t. So, to the experience: Only 2 staff members were in evidence and despite the lack of other diners, they seemed very disinterested in serving us. Eventually, after probably 20 minutes or so a somewhat surly waiter took our order. Then began the great wait; despite the lack of other customers, starters took around 25 minutes and our main course another 25 minutes. Naturally, as we didn’t have any food, we thought we’d like another drink. Both waiters seemed determined not to make eye contact and eventually one of us went to ask him to take a further drinks order. Again, he seemed annoyed with us intruding on his otherwise very quiet evening. When the food finally came, it was OK, not great just very average. Let me digress for a moment and share with you how Cafe Chutney works: There is a standard menu, as you’d expect, you order from the menu and your bill is priced accordingly. There is also a “special” menu that operates from Monday through to Thursday. This offers the following for £17.95; • A starter. • A main course. • Rice or Naan • A side order for every two diners. • Tea or Coffee • Banana Fritter Desert The first thing to point out is that only a year or so ago this was priced at £10.95, so in just a few years they have increased the price of this “special” menu by 72%. Inflation over this period has been around 12%. Presumably, “special” means especially profitable to them because there’s no longer anything else that’s special about it! We waited for another 30 minutes after they had cleared our main course plates but no tea, coffee, or banana fritters were offered. The two waiters made sure that they came nowhere near our table and busied themselves shutting up shop and making it abundantly clear that they wanted to close the restaurant and go home. We gave up, paid up, and went home. All in all, this was almost certainly the worst service I’ve had in any Stratford restaurant for many years, and it goes without saying that we won’t be returning, but we will be warning our friends and business colleagues as to how far service at Cafe Chutney has deteriorated.

this restraunt is of the beaten track and very popular with locals. They have an extensive menu and will also prepare anything you want. Very family friendly, an early evening family setting not a boozy end of night joint. I visit this place regularly for years now

Chutney's fulfils the long needed answer for a serious Asian restaurant. Wide variety of dishes, carefully earmarked identifying the degree of spice.

Food was as good as always but this is the second visit in a month when service has been bad. Waiting an hour and a half for starters is not acceptable. Waiting for drinks and had to chase as sat at table with nothing. Not correct tableware and not attempt to sort. Such a shame for the chefs incredible cooking to be let down by front of house.

We have used Cafe Chutney a couple of times now - our first couple of take-aways were very good, and we recently decide to eat-in as well. The restaurant itself is larger than it looks from the outside, and the staff are friendly - we did have a few minor issues with our order.

Have not had Indian food before but the waiter was patient with us although very busy. Meal was excellent and staff lovely even though they are very busy. Only complaint was that we had to ask twice for the bill and then ended up walking to the till to pay.

My first visit and initial thought were how busy it was early on a Tues eve - they must be doing something right - and how bland the main dining area was. Anyway we got some poppadoms and, like most places, it's the same portions of toppings if you order 1 or 10 and as we have a couple of favourites we had to get the attention of a waiter to get two topped up and the reaction was like; we've never been asked that before. Anyway pet peeves aside, lovely food, good value and only reasonable service as we had to get attention of waiting staff a few times. Acid test; would I go back? Yes, for sure.

Visited today 3/8/17 and wow excellent service and food was perfection, really good portion size and reasonably priced only a couple of minor gripes one being wrong rice different from what I ordered but no big deal yummed it up all the same. Otherwise the gents toilet had a slightly leaky urinal and the décor could do with a refresh as starting to look a little tired. Would have been 5 * review only 4* due to minor issues as above. Highly recommended please give a visit I thoroughly enjoyed my meal

Añadimos sal y pimienta y chili en casa para probar y hacer que cualquier sabor. Uno de los peores curris que he tenido, no volveré.

Picked up a takeaway for 8 however on returning to a local campsite where we were staying one meal was missing. I phoned back and explained, requesting the meal was prepared straight away along with a replacement rice as we had no way to keep it hot. The server didn't question us at all & was apologetic. My friend and I returned taking our meals too to ask for them to be warmed up but the waiter insisted the meals were prepared again from scratch. We left with hot meals, complimentary dipping sauces and a chilled bottle of rose. Top customer service. Everyone enjoyed their meals; food was delicious. Thank you Cafe Chutneys.

Been a few times after my friend recommended the place. Food is always excellent and at a reasonable price - definitely a good cheaper alternative to Thespians. I love the Tandoori Chicken Masala with Keema sauce thanks to my friend, i would add keema to everything if i could. The staff are always friendly and attentive. Parking is also a massive bonus in Stratford, plus its a great place if you just want to avoid the town centre. Takeaway is great too, but collection only.

The food I here is wonderful however the service is a little of a let down. We had booked a table for 4 of us for 8pm and when we arrived it was so busy they hadn't got our table ready. We were eventually shown to a table where we were given the tableware to lay ourself ! No napkins either. My food took longer to arrive than my friends and they were well into theirs by the time I got mine. All that aside the food was very good but just be prepared if it's the weekend it could be manic !

Although this is a large restaurant, there is a feeling of intimacy due to its layout. Not a rushed dining experience so sit back and enjoy the time there. Very good food and service. Also very good value. Nice to eat just out of town, with parking on site.There appears to be a roaring trade in take aways....always a good sign.

I used to be a regular diner at Chutney's until I moved away and was looking forward to my return and took along a group of friends so we were a table of nine.They have had a makeover. Whoop de do.The service was truly terrible from the minute we arrived. It was busy , but it always used to be on a Saturday night.Only half of our table received drinks and they seemed unable to get me a glass of water.The starters arrived after a long wait and they were all Luke warm or cold and they weren't of the standard they used to be.The staff were told of the temperature of the food and they of course apologised and blamed it on being extremely busy !!After another extremely long wait the main courses arrived, well 7 out of 9 anyway and again the food was Luke warm at best. The Chicken madras used to be excellent but all 3 of them ordered were extremely bland and the chicken was both rubbery and had lumps of gristle. 2 meals were sent back for being cold and they returned after being microwaved !!!!!!!! Unbelievable.....The lamb dish that was sent back re-appeared and was still cold.We informed the staff of our unhappiness and eventually one of the waiters again apologised and we were offered a 10% discount off our bill. The manager was apparently unavailable. Clearly far too busy ....We paid what we thought was appropriate, 1/2 of the bill and they were extremely fortunate to receive that.In summary, there are 9 diners who will never return. We drove from Leamington Spa for this curry and we will be sticking to the excellent restaurants locally in future.Chutney's are obviously making far too much money to care less about their diners and their reputation. I hope more restaurants open up in Stratford and they lose all of their custom.Andrew Kerr

Had exceptionally good service, atmosphere was good, food taste was exceptional and presentation was some of the best I have seen in an Indian restaurant.

Been here several times and it has always been good. Deals with group bookings well and good is still just as good and doesn't take too long. Defo a recommend from me!

Six of us booked a table on a Thursday evening, everything was just ok in my opinion apart from the toilets which need a complete refurb, they still have a towel to dry your hands and its a horrible green paintwork.Nice pint, staff pleasant enough, my Tandoori chicken was dry and my main meal of Aloo Gobi was dry as well, the other people said it was not to bad but I will not be returning until they have a complete refurbishment.

As locals, we try Chutneys every year to see if things have improved...they don't.Firstly, you cannot fault the food here. Also, the clean crisp interior makes you feel like its the sort f place you would wish to visit, but and there is a BIG BUT, in fact several.- The staff a VERY inattentive, several of them hanging around, both their mobile phones, almost impossible to catch their eye and when you do ask for something (drink, clean spoon, whatever), it takes an age to arrive.- Im not against background music, but thats where it should be, in the background, not something you have to shout over- While the interior is lovely, the carpet!!! I have seen better, less dirty, on a stable or garage floor - YUKThis would get 4-5 stars if it were for food alone, but overall a 3 is generous.

Visited this restaurant early on a Saturday evening, we hadn't booked and were lucky to get a table as it was quite busy. The food here is very good, well above average, every one of our party of six thoroughly enjoyed their meal. The service was excellent, all the staff very polite, friendly and helpful. Overall s very good experience and would recommend.

The meal was excellent, from the minute we entered the restaurant, the staff greeted us and showed us to our table, ( we had not booked however the place was fairly busy it was early evening, we had plenty of room at the table )Shaf Chowdhery, the head waiter was great, as were all the staff. The food was authentic, huge variety with chutneys & sauces with pompadoms brought to the table right away. We had one starter between the two of us a salad with avocado & mango with a light dressing, excellent we want to make that at home. Mixed Tikka & a King Prawn dish served on a sizzling hotplate. The mains were Mixed Tikka & a King Prawn dish served on a sizzling hotplate. Plain Nan & Pilau rice. The food was excellent, the only downside was there was no curry sauce served to accompany the Tikka, which although it was beautifully cooked left it a bit dry. Most restaurants include a curry sauce of your choice with a Tikka grill.Having said that, we were well satisfied with the meal and had coffee to finish. A nice added touch Shaf then offered us complimentary Amaretto on ice, ( which unknown to Shaf, happens to be our favourite tipple to go with coffee ) Thanks for that. We have friends in Stratford-Upon-Avon, who recommended Chutneys, so we are sure to be back.

We were visiting some friends in Stratford who took us to Chutney for a meal, We were very impressed with the decor which is very colourful The food was great amazing flavours and beautifully presented ,plenty to choose from on the menu all reasonably priced, The staff are very attentive especially Shaf Choudhuny the Head Waiter was excellent he made our visit a memorable one. We would certainly eat there again when in the area

Wow! Its got it all. Its got parking, its spacious inside, its very pink! Then the service is good, food amazing. There was this one dish - I cant remember the name but OMG, it tasted like nothing else I've had and was so unique. It was a great surprise. There are set menus so you can budget - from the menu options. Its got big booths / party areas. Fabulous.

Walking distance from Stratford upon Avon racecourse where we were, but on the edge of town, well worth getting a taxi for though, friendly staff and had an excellent madras washed down with a couple of bottles of cobra, no complaints from my mates who all agreed there meals where good too...a must if you love curry and are in the area.

The place is ok, I've had better service and food in other curry houses. It's not all bad don't get me wrong it just didn't stand out.

Professional but friendly service. Chutneys is just a couple of hundred metres from Stratford upon Avon racecourse. If you love curry this is the ideal way to either celebrate your winnings or commiserate over your losses. Brilliant restaurant, the best in and around Stratford.

An early evening meal with friends, which proved very enjoyable. Staff were friendly and attentive and the menu was varied. The food was very high quality and the surroundings were very pleasant. We'd definitely go again.

We visited here recently with friends for a meal. The service was really slow. One of the party had bones in his chicken tikka masala. I was given the wrong main course therefore everyone had started their meal before me. Cracked glasses as well. I have visited here a few times before and always been really good but don't think we would return again.

Visited this restaurant on a Sunday evening and it was quite busy- which was a good sign! The staff were attentive and helpful in recommending dishes. The lamb chops were lovely and tender also. Overall, an enjoyable experience and tasty food, will visit again for sure.

We booked at 6.30 on a saturday night to eat at 7.30, and they said yes no problem, we turned up and it was SO busy we thought we'd be waiting ages, but they seated us straight away, and were very quick to serve popadums, and drinks, and to return again to take our order. There was a little wait for the food, maybe 10 mins more than normal, but like i said it was very busy, but when it arrived it was lovely, both dishes had lots of flavour, and very different tastes.fabulous meal and great value too.

My fiancé and i decided to visit Cafe Chutneys after a long day in Stratford and Warwick, we have visited the restaurant previously but this was the first time this year. As usual we were greeted at the door and shown to a table by one of the friendly staff. The 2 courses and drinks we ordered were delivered to the table without any delays and the food was as it should be, delicious.The atmosphere was really good and the restaurant was filling up quickly during our visit, despite this the service remained first class.A great place to eat on the outskirts of Stratford and with its own spacious car park.

Easy to find just outside Stratford and with ample parking, this Indian restaurant begins with a good first impression and continues this with friendly, attentive waiters in a relaxed atmosphere. Our table of eight was quickly provided with popadoms and drinks before our order was taken. Food waiting time was reasonable for a weekday around 7pm. The variety of different menu items is good and the food we received on this visit was excellent. My only real criticism? Very pricey drinks. A true shame as otherwise excellent value. Definitely worth a visit!

Always consistently good food, good service and good to the pocket. We have been as a couple or most recently as three families comprising 14 adults/kids. ALl made welcome with plenty of room. Oh and the food is perfect.

Superb meal , excellent service at a great price. free parking - a bonus for Stratford - upon Avon. You need to book as this restaurant gets really busy , if you're staying locally -they also do a take away service.

Overall, it was not a bad experience. It was VERY affordable and it has a warm, welcoming feel to it.The service was excellent and the waiters had lots of character, a real fun feel to the experience. The food didn't seem to be the most fresh and did end up to having diarrhea...however I did have all fish plates, start to finish...not that that's an excuse. ...there are better places to go, but I would go again.

Service- very slow, we and others had to ask to order our food. But the server was very friendly, thoughtful, helpful.Hygiene- only has a 3 rating, but front of house appeared cleanFood- hubby really enjoyed his.Mine I felt lacked flavour, I expected more spice so wasn't overly impressed.Price- quite reasonable.Would visit again but not in a hurry

Food was ok but service continues to be abysmal!! The night was ruined when the overly rushed waiter spilt red wine all over us! Top was ruined and had to be thrown away! Barely an apology from the staff and when we asked to see the manager he wouldn't come and see us!Never never again!!

Good Indian restaurant on the outskirts of Stratford. Great selection of Indian food and daily special offers monday - thursday. Gets very busy so booking advisable

I have been here on several occasions and they always delivery fantastic customer service and lovely food even when it's super busy. Will always be a regular here ! If your looking for a good curry, this is the place.

I was invited by friends of work colleagues who are regular customers & spoke highly of this place & while the food tasted OK when it finally arrived I have had a sleepless night with a very upset stomach - this has added insult to the injury of having a clumsy waiter knock a whole pint of beer all over my shirt & trousers. The decor is tired & the chair coverings are filthy with stains. As was the plastic menu that had stains a good spilt all over it. I would not return there

I've been coming here for 14 years now, even though i've grown up and moved away. Some of the old staff are still there and always remember me. Most except Harry are friendly, and the food is always tasty. You can't beat their weekday deal for £10.95 which hasn't changed in years despite inflation etc. I think out of the 100 or so meals i must have had here there is only one or two bad ones that stand out so a good ratio. Also, after moving to oxford, the prices here are insanely cheap! No more than £8 for a king prawn curry that would set you back double that an hour down the road. Unless it goes downhill, which i can't imagine after all these years, i will keep coming back when i get the chance.

Reviews seem to suggest this a good place to go, however our party of 7 found the food tasteless with dubious interpretations of what the curry actually should be like. Service was basic. A place better avoided.

Went to Chutney with friends whilst staying at a nearby cottage on holiday. Mixed reviews but gave it a chance. Starters great and main currys tasty and as described in the menu. Would go again . Very reasonable prices too.

If you are fed up with the psychedelic over sweetened curries that so many Indian restaurants seem to be serving up these days then this place is an oasis. The food is simply delicious with no obvious hints of artificial colourings or added sugar. The menu is refreshingly different too with many original dishes although the firm favourites are still there. I had the lamb with baby aubergines and fennel, I can't remember it's actual name but it was superb. The lamb was so tender and the sauce very flavoursome. I would thoroughly recommend it.

Group of us for a family meal, waited 15 mins for drinks to arrive then almost 30 mins for our order to be taken.Starters arrived 45 mins later, no apologies or acknowledgement. Mains not quite so slow on appearing, but we were left with dessert menus for another 30 mins.Shame - food lovely, really tasty, but service poor. They were busy, but nowhere near full. Just felt we were shunted to the back of their priorities so the other tables didn't suffer. They could at least have kept us 'in the loop'. Won't hurry back unfortunately.

I've been going here for years and the staff have always been amazing & never been let down by the food, that's amazing too, would highly recommend going
