This is a friendly cafe is a beautiful location but for me it lacks something very simple . Being veggie I don't understand why veggie/vegan bacon is not available when you are offering a vegan/veggie breakfast . You have meat bacon available for that breakfast but not the vegan/veggie? For me if I wanted a veggie breakfast i would expect veggie bacon as a meat eatter does when they pay for a breakfast this to me is not worth the money and would not be eating there for this reason and its a shame as if they did do this then this would of been a glowing review.

Thought we would give Cafe Bovisands a go for Sunday breakfast and we were not disappointed. Very tasty vegetarian breakfast. Plenty of it and properly cooked. Best vegetarian sausages we have ever had in a breakfast. Used the binoculars to look at the maritime activities. (Some sort of yachting competition going on). Pleasant and helpful staff. Toilet facilities are clean and tidy too. Fairly priced. Highly recommended.

Our first visit and it will definitely be repeated. Tasty food well presented in a comfortable and attractive cafe setting. The location could not be bettered with stunning views across the bay, sail boats to watch and would you believe the added touch of binoculars for every table to ensure that you can while away a short time looking out to sea enjoying another great coffee. Service warm, friendly and welcoming – much appreciated. The breakfast specials are imaginative and add to what is a fairly short offering on the menu but which certainly covers the main bases for most people. Delivering a lot for a small eatery with the added bonus of a lovely sun terrace! Thanks to the team for a memorable visit - we'll be back!

We had an absolutely fantastic time at this café! It was the perfect spot for a family outing, with something for everyone to enjoy. The cakes were delicious, the ice cream was a hit with the kids, and the drinks were refreshing and well-made. What really set this place apart was the stunning view of the sea. The laid-back vibe made it easy to relax and soak in the beautiful surroundings. We loved every moment we spent here, and it’s a must-visit if you’re looking for a great place to unwind by the sea. Highly recommend!

I visited Cafe Bovisand with my husband, sister, brother in law and their dog for breakfast. The cooked breakfasts were absolutely delicious, and hot! The coffees were perfect too! My husband and myself have visited on a number of occasions before but have only ever had the cheesy chips and carrot cake, ( which is pretty exceptional). This cafe is perfect. Stunning location with exceptional views, really tasty food cooked to perfection and hot, all along with really friendly staff that greet and serve you with a smile, (which makes a huge change in this country)! They are also very dog friendly with a little menu for our faithful companions along with dog treats!

We first visited this cafe in April. Having not been down to Bovisand for a long time, we didn't realise how different this place is now. The owners have put a phenomenal amount of effort into the refurbishment, with the most welcome change being a spacious decked area added to the front and side with seating. The views out across the water are beautiful at any time of day. On our first visit, we stopped for a coffee to try this place out. The service was excellent and we were delighted to see that alternative milks were offered too. In the very short queue, we were (successfully) tempted by the wide range of cakes. We had the coffee and walnut cake which was generous in portion size, was moist and most importantly it was delicious! We revisited in May, having recommended to our friends. We visited mid-morning and all had the Bovi breakfast. The breakfast was high quality, well presented and again, most importantly, most delicious! It came with a choice of white or brown bread, but was thick-cut 'proper job' bread! We would definitely recommend a visit to this cafe. You can park nearby either side of Bovisands beach to access the cafe and it's perfectly situated so you can drop in on a beach day, before or after a stunning walk around the cost or even just to sit down and relax with the beautiful sea views. 5* ++++

Cheap nasty ingredients, boring menu. I was hoping a change of management would mean quality food & interesting menu, no such luck!! Had a toasted sandwich, cheap sliced supermarket bread, plastic ham & not hot inside!! Quality of food here is awful. I am local & was hoping to be a regular, no way!! Picnic for me in future. Unsurprisingly doesn’t get very busy, hottest day of the year at lunchtime & I am only customer sitting outside. Will never come back! Location is wonderful, but with awful food can only fail, locals definitely won’t come.

Returning customers from last year. What a transformation of the cafe and the lovely addition of the shop. Love the outside decking area. Made to feel very welcome again. The bovi breakfast is awesome. The team are so friendly, and their customer service with a smile is much appreciated. Was nice to be remembered from last year, too! Highly suggest trying the carrot cake. Oh, and the honeycomb ice cream, omg! We have eaten there for breakfast twice so far this week and will do again before we head home. If you have a dog (or more) they are welcome and even give your dog a treat. I love the binoculars on the windo sill so you can see what's happening at sea. Well done for all your hard work getting the cafe and shoo up and running. It's fabulous. Hope to return next year and see what other changes have happened. Love your t-shirt design also. I admit I felt rather prejudiced against the Bovisands Holiday Park as it came into view on my walk round the coastal path, denaturing as it does a lovely cove by covering it with rows and rows of identikit chalets and cabins. But closer up I changed my mind. The site is beautifully kept and boasts a lovely cafe right beside the route of the path. I had a very good takeaway tea there plus a generous scoop of ice cream chosen from a range of flavours. The ladies serving were friendly and on the ball as far as COVID safety is concerned. You can eat inside this cafe, but I sat on a bench opposite, at the top of an attractive green slope which led down to the cliff and was provided with ample litter bins. From there the views across Plymouth sound were magnificent. On a busy summer's day, this cafe is worth noting for coastal walkers. The nearest ones in either direction, at Wembury Beach and Jennicliffe, were too busy that Sunday to be worth queuing for. But Cafe Bovisands was well staffed and afforded a relaxing, much-needed stop for refreshment.

I popped in here for a sandwich and when I got it the bread was stale but I couldn’t be bothered to go inside and complain as I was starving so I just ate it and then I realised it was covered in mould also, that gives you an idea of how old the bread was which is shocking. Who knows what the rest of their food standards are like.

It would be easy to forget this is essentially a sea-side cafe. The lunch menu is in the light lunch category, for example sandwiches and jackets. Our fish finger sandwich and chicken and bacon mayo both served on thick slices of granary bread were fresh and tasty. The side salad was more of a garnish and whilst small, was equally fresh and tasty. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The cafe was clean and tidy. We did our usual walk to Bovisand beach and decided to stop for lunchtime snack. My partner is Veggie so had Beans on Toast, not much can go wrong with that and she was quite happy. I decided to go for the Sausage and Bacon Bap, something I am very fussy about and wondered what would be served. The Bap was served fresh and not lagged in butter, it contained two good quality tasty sausages and two slices of bacon cooked crispy, but not dried out. They met my my fussy standards and exceeded them. Next time we will probably sample more of the fare. Ok so its only a Bap, but this is probably the best I have had in a very long time. Looking for breakfast by Bovisand beach early Friday morning on a lousy day, howling wind and wet, Cliffedge Cafe on the other side said they weren't open until 10a.m. It was 9.15a.m. at the time. The guy told me to go over to the caravan park cafe as they would open earlier (before 10a.m.). Drove across with some interesting single lane traffic passing. More reversing than going forward! Eventually arrived at Bovisand Cafe just before 10 anyway. The window said in 3 days they would start opening at 10a.m. Implying they opened earlier before. But the new opening times shouldn't kick in until 3 days time. It has already as it seems. Bit more lie-in for the staff on a lousy day I suppose. Who doesn't like? The 3 of them were very sociable. Feels like a close knit, small family business rather than your usual corporate mechanical greeting at the usual McDonald's or KFC and alike.I ordered an omelette over an usual English breakfast as I'd been fed with such for the previous 3 days. Man, so many eggs in it, it felt almost like a quiche. Did me nicely. The chef guy was delighted I mopped up every last bit of salad and everything on the plate. The sea view would've been impressive if it wasn't for the driving rain blurring the windows. Still atmospheric on a miserable day.Nice to have the whole cafe to myself with 3 friendly staff.

This used to be an outstanding cafe before being taken over by new ownership. It saddens me to say how poor the cafe has become, in particular relation to the food quality.I regularly visit bovisands, and have done for 8 years, it used to be a pleasure to eat in the cafe after a walk along the beach. However, now the cafe makes me dread my visits. The food is of such poor quality, they can't even toast a panini appropriately, the meat tastes like cheap frozen cast offs and the menu doesn't even have any depth now. Some staff seem friendly, however majority of them are very rude and rarely make conversation or give you a smile. It's such a shame the previous owners sold this cafe has so much potential which is sadly now being neglected. I have given a two out of five rating only because of the location- the views are outstanding from the restaurant.

Undercooked eggs, cheap sausages that had very little meat in them and tasted unpleasant, bacon looked and tasted Cheap and the whole breakfast was Luke warm. No choice of brown or white bread and even the tea was lacking in taste. It was also overpriced for the quality. The only saving grace was the decor and the view. Have visited this venue on more than one occasion now and feel it's going backwards. The food has always been acceptable when with a little more effort could be amazing, I feel the proprietor should venture out to see what the competition is doing rather than fumble along churning out the same generic slop. Sausage cheap and dull, bacon lifeless, no black pudding or hogs pudding. Eggs is eggs as is mushrooms and beans. Toast no choice of brown or white and butter straight out the freezer; as are the plates! Why oh why do these places not warm the plates by mouthful 3 the meal is cold and even less appetising, it takes no effort to warm a plate. The staff were all wondering around as if we were spoiling their day or they had just received bad news, work and serve as you would expect to be waited on yourself. The prices were on the high side for what I was served, I have been to plenty of other nearby venues that are way above this cafe, and for less money. This is one of the most beautiful views in the area and as such it should be maximized upon, I want a reason to go back; I want a reason to tell my friends that this place is worth the drive or the walk.I may return to see if this has been read! But I may not, yet I should be wanting to return.

We dropped in after walking the Coast Path and ordered hot drinks and brunch. Both arrived quickly with no fuss and were very tasty. Perhaps the menu could use expanding a little, and opening hours extended. Excellent view across Plymouth Sound and we'll be happy to return.

Myself & my husband took 2 friends who were on holiday in Plymouth to Bovisand Cafe. The pastry on the pasties was hard & overcooked & the filling was dry. We finished off with ice cream & clotted cream....clotted cream?. One pack was mouldy & the others were tasteless. Apparently they freeze their cream & then defrost it!! Not a good advertisment for Plymouth. It was a waste of time complaining, the manageress was not interested. We won't be returning!

After visiting the cafe today I was very disgusted with the service I received. I started off the day with some cheesy chips which I soon to realise that the cheese was gone off I could tell this by the smell of the cheese. I felt like I couldn't complain as the staff were so rude. The blonde women (seen to be manager) was very rude. She complained that we bought sweets from the other shop and bought them in the cafe for the journey home but she made a very rude comment which wasn't needed. We then sat in the cafe and bought a cup of tea which the spoon had dirt all over it when we asked for a new one the women gave a very dirty look and snatched it out my hand. All over bad experience and will never return and will also tell my friends not too. It's a shame that the shop next door was very lovely and the cafe on the other beach have welcoming staff.

Disgusted by the attitude towards myself and my friends by certain members of staff at this cafe, after ordering food and drink from the cafe we discovered the cheese on our chips were gone off purely due to the smell and taste,of which we didn't complain due to the members of staff being rude.We then ordered some hot drinks and bought some food from the shop next door for the journey home where we were rudely interrupted by a member of staff asking why we were buying food from the shop when we were in the cafe. The spoons which we used for the coffee and teas that we had bought were dirty, after asking for a second spoon they snatched the spoon from my hand and gave me a dirty look. Myself and my friends won't be returning anytime soon and we are shocked at the rudeness we received

I was with a group of 16 friends on Good Friday walking the coast path. It was a long, hot day and we were looking for somewhere to stop for tea. As if in answer to our prayers this cafe appeared on the horizon. It was a good place to stop and has a beach shop next door

We visited this cafe with an amazing view of Plymouth Sound and breakwater on a Sunday with family. We had various items to eat, a pasty, cheesey chips, burgers, ham and egg and chilli, all arrived promptly well cooked and at the same time, even the pasty had been heated without microwaving. We drank soft drinks although wine and beer are available. We ran up a tab and the total bill was very reasonable and the service friendly. After we had eaten we went for a lovely walk, the only negative was the parking charge of £3.50, such a shame as it must affect the decision of some people to visit this lovely spot.

This is the first time we have visited the cafe under the new ownership. Very friendly welcome. Only had a pasty and a coffee during our walk from Jennicliff to Bovisand, but the pasties are delicious and the coffee was good too. The view is spectacular. We will be back again in the summer.

I came here for lunch, first time in a very long time, last Thursday. I had a Panini and chips, and the Panini came with a lovely side salad and a few crisps. I shared a bowl of chips with my mother but soon regretted that wishing I had ordered a portion to myself (I very rarely share food!) as they were absolutely delicious! The café soon got very busy which added to the atmosphere. It is obvious that this café is doing very well and I shall definitely be returning as being lucky enough to live close by. The décor is delightful, very nautical which is fitting with the café being right by the sea! The lady who served us with very pleasant and efficient.

I don't like writing bad reviews but this cafe has changed hands. We went one Sunday lunchtime and instead of the extensive snack menu there was roast dinner or a couple of other things. The roast dinner was dreadful . I left most of my veg because it was over cooked or out of a tin. This is a fabulous location and we used to love coming here because of the quality and type of food it sold. I hope it improves soon.

Well we have been going to this cafe for many years and there have been many owners but the present proprietors really need to improve their service. We ordered 2 coffees and a toasted tea cake but were told that there would be quite a wait for the toasted tea cake! I decided to have a packet of biscuits instead of the tea cake. The place was practically full but most of those seated were clearly waiting for their order. We waited and waited and after 40 minutes our order eventually arrived. The member of staff said they didn't expect to be so busy and they didn't have enough staff on duty. With a queue at the counter and people abandoning the queue we were surprised to see a member of staff come out of the kitchen with a bowl of soup and go to a table to consume it!This was a winter Bank Holiday with plenty of walkers and visitors about and it should be clear that the day would be busy. I'm glad we didn't order a meal as we would have been waiting so long that it would put me off whatever i might have ordered. This is a great location but the proprietors need to up their game if the business is to attract regular visitors.

Stayed locally for a week and had breakfast on the day we were leaving. Full english breakfast was cooked fresh and hot. The Cafe Bovisands is under new management and they had only been there for a week when I nipped in for breakfast. The coffee was very nice and I wish I had visited more during thew week I was in the area. There is an outside area with tables and chairs and they are dog friendly ! This is right on the South West Coast Walking Path and great to pop in for a bite or a drink..

Called in lunchtime when out on a walk from Wembury Point, for a coffee and slice of homemade cake. New owners were very nice and made you feel welcome. The cafe is dog friendly, and in a great setting overlooking Plymouth Sound. Had a good selection of hot and cold foods, place was very clean and nicely decorated.

Visited Bovisand Cafe for the first time in many years after hearing it had been taken over by new owners. It was obvious the place was in the process of being redecorated and I was pleased to see they have chosen a nautical theme which will go brilliantly with the fantastic setting. It was lovely to be able to use the free binoculars to watch out to sea whilst waiting for our order. The service was fast and friendly and the food was excellent, plenty of choice of both hot and cold meals along with delicious homemade cakes. We will definitely be going back again soon and look forward to seeing the finished decoration. Also good to see that its free to park from end September to end of March so will make the most of it

Booked before we came on holiday and started to feel a bit nervous as some reviews mentioned they weren't very welcoming to tourists, well I don't know where they were but not here for sure. Had the warmest welcome from the start, staff were lovely and food exactly what we hoped for, Sunday Roast was perfect. Tender pork, crispiest roast potatoes ever, tons of tasty gravy and cauliflower cheese that actually tasted of cheese! Loved it all and somehow found room for the dark chocolate tart with raspberry sorbet WOW!

Total lack of customer service. Walked in to order takeaway coffee and absolutely no acknowledgment of presence. She continued preparing orders without even acknowledging me or saying ‘I’ll be a moment’ which is not taxing to do. After 5 minutes of being completely ignored I left and got my coffee elsewhere. At least acknowledge customers when they’re waiting!

Four of us for lunch, Food is different and tasty, apple crumble was a flat mess on the plate, service was prompt, certainly not warm, and welcoming, neither the wife nor the chef said hello we decided to move to another pub...

I agree with alot of the negative reviews. I have gone to the cafe for about 20 years and it has so gone downhill. Staff generally are not customer focussed and friendly and take customers for granted. They are inattentive and slow. They are not doing us a favour attending, we are the customers. There are plenty of other places where people ear and you are loosing custom.
