Very nice food, not too expensive. 4 of us enjoyed it. My only complaint is the bigger table next to us had kids and they were all on their phones and tablets, each with volume high all playing different things. Not a fault of the restaurant but some people just need to be more considerate when dining with others.

Popped in here on a quiet afternoon in January 2025 for food and a drink. The barman was excellent and we ordered from one of their many menus. The thing that caught my eye was the poutine. We had recently returned from a trip around North America and had poutine in lots of places across Canada including from its heartland in Quebec. I said at the time that many of these were good especially in Quebec City, but we could do better poutine (culturally insensitive?). Generally the gravy was no better than watery chip shop gravy & could be miles better (fact) and our chips are better than their fries (opinion). This old pub just east of Newcastle gas been done up in funky deco, which matched the range in clientele, sold a slow-cooked brisket topped poutine and was wonderful. It was, rudely to Canada, better than any Poutine I'd had in Canada. High praise, but I still think it could be better. In Canada they use cheese curds and here they were mozzarella cubes and I think curds make it better (I imagine many may not enjoy the teeth-cheese squeek but I do. There is generally also much more cheese in Canadian poutine than Ouseburn poutine so I think that could make it better. The chips were great and the meaty gravy was really tasty. Beer was also pretty good too. Would definitely go back again.

Lovely cafe with great potential . However a couple of the staff seemed as if they had got out of bed the wrong side . I asked a question and was snapped at .
