Cafe AleOli in Shropshire

We popped in in the off chance for lunch. It was pretty busy but we were welcomed to a table. Staff were friendly and attentive. Tapas were really tasty and together with a really nice house white wine we had a lovely experience.

Great restaurant for a date. Perfect for pre theatre meal. The staff, atmosphere and food were all lovely

Popped in here on the off chance of having something to eat before the theatre. We hadn't booked but as we were early, this wasn't a problem. We couldn't decide on wine and were both offered a taster. Both delicious but we opted for the rioja. The service was excellent. We were asked if we were going to the theatre so that they could accommodate us without us being rushed. Everything on the menu appealed to us but we settled for delicious croquettes, meatballs, whitebait, salt and pepper squid and patatas bravas. It all tasted really authentic. Not like some tapas restaurants in the UK where it feels everything has been bought from Iceland. We managed to finish everything even though they were generous servings. At the end of the meal we chatted to Frances, the owner who informed us she had lived in Spain for several years. This is where she learnt her Spanish cooking. I would rate this higher than 5 stars ! It really will not disappoint if you want real Spanish tapas!

Quick! If you like Tapas get over to Aleoli y Tu. Friendly, efficient and attentive service. Tapas was wonderful, so tasty. Will definitely be returning to sample further delights!

This restaurant has everything you could possibly want, a great atmosphere, delicious food and fabulous service, I can’t wait to go again!

Visited last night before the theatre and was not disappointed! Service from start to finish was brilliant, food was amazing and atmosphere was lovely. We had informed them that we needed to be out by 7.15 and they did exactly that without us feeling at all rushed. Would highly recommend and am already planning our next visit.

One of a number of eating places within the excellent Market Hall. Good menu choices of Mediterranean style food at reasonable prices. Good service and tasty food.

Lovely food, friendly staff, you can't really ask for much more. Well worth a visit for either eating in or taking away for a meal at home.

Shrewsbury Market Hall has a number of cafes/eateries, all of a good standard. We hadn't tried Aleoli before so decided to break our shopping with a light lunch. Menu is good with sandwiches, panini as well as other different dishes. We both had panini and coffee. Very friendly service and great food. Will certainly go again.

Ok I guess. I can’t say I had a bad meal but I wasn’t wowed. Granted this is in the market hall, and more of a cafe vibe, but there are eateries within there that are ace. Cafe Aleoli just didn’t really deliver. Nice, plain, average. 3 words you shouldn’t associate with Spanish cuisine.

Tapas here in all its variety is delicious. We usually have 4 tapas between 2 people. When we have visitors it is our 'go to' place for lunch and everyone has been surprised and delighted. The service is quick and efficient, prices are reasonable and the wine and beer are good.

I use trip advisor to plan my little jaunts and so had put this Spanish cafe in my ‘basket’. On arriving in Shrewsbury after rowing though the floods we had quite the appetite The market hall is superb in itself well worth a visit, after walking all the way round on the floor we spotted the cafe. The food was amazing, we were made to feel very welcome and service was very prompt, large portions and prices low. My next visit to Shrewsbury will have this cafe at the top of my list. Go you won’t regret it

Great place, love the vibe and the shout of Oli when a tip is given. Great music and great staff. Only ever had a hot choc because don't have much of a lunch break and that is always gorgeous. The food looks great. The customer service is second to non. Especially Jade. Really knows how to look after her customers and her team. Keep up the good work.

As a visitor to Shrewsbury and a lover of markets I popped into the Market Hall and was delighted to find this great little tapas bar for lunch. I don’t know where the bad reviews originate from but they couldn’t be further from my experience. I ordered the tapas special of 3 tapas with bread and a drink. The calamari were cooked to absolute perfection with the lightest of batters and a little mayo on the side. Delicious patatas bravas with sauce with a real kick in it! And the meatballs were delicious and in a sauce full of flavour. Lovely fresh bread to mop up the sauce and I was delighted with my lunch. Terrific value as the dish sizes were the same as in my local Spanish restaurant. Friendly service and very clean. Would definitely go back if I’m in Shrewsbury again, which I hope to be!

As well as their market cafe there’s this restaurant cum tapas bar just round the corner from Theatre Severn. We spent a delightful time with wine and tapas here. It’s friendly, warm and interesting. The food is fresh and well presented.

Just called in to have a look around the market but decided to call in here for a breakfast sandwich. I had bacon and great tomotto TOH had bacon and egg. We both had ours on brown bread. Very tasty the break very light and fluffy. With a cup of tea set up up for the day.

Couldn’t fault this place. The staff were so helpful especially the one with the pony tail I think her name was jade. The service was brilliant. It’s clean friendly and tasty. The music really creates atmosphere! Felt like I was in Spain. The bravas was my favourite. Please try here if you’re in Shrewsbury’s award winning market hall!

My husband and I chose 6 items from the three tapas for £10 option. They were small portions as is usual for tapas. All were very well cooked and very tasty. We were very happy with our lunch and also very thankful that we arrived kust before the kitchen closed at 3pm. We would definately eat there again. I particularly enjoyed the slow roasted chicken, pepper and onion and the pork skewers.

Garlic bread was good but that’s where it stops.

Superb food tucked away in the corner of the market. The pescado platter was awesome and very good value at £14 for 2 people (and there really was enough for 2). Very good service and a nice atmosphere with the Spanish music despite being in the crowded market. Would definitely recommend!

If you are a fan of poor service, microwave food, tepid food, dishes arriving 20 minutes after others and poor value for money this is the destination

It’s a sunny Saturday late afternoon and we’ve popped in for a drink. No need to order any food, athe ladies were more than happy for us to just have a few glasses in what is undoubtedly their main eating period. The wine is good and fairly priced. We had some simple bar snacks which were lovely. Everyone around us seems to be having a great time and it’s definitely somewhere we will be coming back to for a full meal. The establishment had only been open a few months so we were surprised to find negative reviews on here, thankfully these all apply to the old establishment. This is definitely a positive addition to Shrewsbury’s food scene which has become a little predictable of late. Well done ladies :0)

In addition to the indoor market, Cafe AleOli have opened up in Frankwell. We happened to walk past, called in for a drink, and were lucky enough to find a table. Bar dining area is busy, friendly, relaxed (advisable to book!) Service was faultless and all staff really friendly and helpful. As for the food - just perfect! Garlic prawns were divine, whitebait cooked to perfection (and not over cooked into bland crunchiness as so often happens). Manchego cheese with drizzled honey - heaven! Would highly recommend.

We were so lucky to have found this restaurant on our adventures over the weekend. Amazing food really was the most tasteful, great selection of tapas ...... can’t wait to visit again to try more. Lovely and welcoming staff and the restaurant itself looks great.

This review refers to AleOli in Shrewsbury Market Hall, not their other premises. We visited Shrewsbury and happened to be by this cafe at 1pm. Seemed a good time to eat and we were tempted by the menu. The staff were Extremely friendly and helpful and we were made very welcome. We ordered drinks ( a beer and a soft drink) and the Fish Tapas from the menu . The drinks came quickly, the food after about 15 minutes ( it was all freshly cooked to order) ... a very impressive plate of calamari, prawns, olives, fish goujons , salad and warm bread . Just £20 for drinks and all that food? Fantastic value for money!! ..and more than enough for the two of us !! I'd recommend this place for great value Spanish style food and will go back for sure next time we visit Shrewsbury.

Basically ten of us turned hungry and thirsty at 9pm on a Thursday night and these lovely people saved our lives with excellent food, a warm welcome and some equally welcome wine. Great atmosphere, can’t recommend enough.

This is definitely my favourite eatery in Shrewsbury market hall wonderful tapas great meat plates and friendly service without breaking the bank, if I’m in Shrewsbury this is always the first place I think of for lunch. Well recommended.

We've eaten here quite a few times now. The tapas are amazing, delicious flavours. The oven baked brie is just heavenly, in fact, we have had the latter on the last 3 visits! Not a huge menu, but a tasty and imaginative one.

Ate here for breakfast last Saturday whilst shopping in the market for fresh fish and other things. Staff friendly and the place is bustling with people. Food was nice, tea cake and some Spanish bread, tasty and cheap too.

Ive been to this place a few times and the food is lovely (especially the croquettes, Yum!) but weve just been and had their meat balls, they were tasty and i thought they were beef as they were cooked pink, turns out it was a mix of pork and beef. A little bit worrying but they did remove it off the receipt. Just a little warning

What a great little restaurant in the corner of the fabulous Shrewsbury market. The atmosphere is always great, complimented by excellent service from the lovely owner and her staff. Food is authentically Spanish, no surprise as I believe the patron used to run a restaurant in Spain. Definitely recommend.

Always visit Aleoli when in Shrewsbury and it never disappoints!! New menu when we were there and it was yummy. Staff are friendly and helpful and it feels like Spain, even in Shrewsbury Market Hall. Love it!!

A friend recommended this place and I am so glad they did. The Tapas are some of the best we have ever had and fantastic value. The ambience and service was exceptional and we will be frequent visitors from now on.

We stumbled on this place and sat just for a coffee until we saw the size of there Garlic bread and Pizzas wow cooked on the premises while you wait and cooked to perfection we both ordered Garlic bread for two and hot n spicy pizza yummy

Having been several times before we took some friends along to the Saturday night event.There is something about the atmosphere at Aleoli that “just makes it “ if you know what I mean, from the staff to the music to the smells and ooh, the food!!

After an aperitif or two at Gindifferent, we ate at Cafe AleOli and had another great meal. This was our second visit and we will certainly return. Great food, friendly service and brilliant value. We had the platters and then tapas, all were good. Wine was very nice and reasonably priced.

What a fabulous lunch we had here yesterday. The food was freshly made and the flavours were amazing. Located in the market hall, which now has a really trendy vibe. The staff were so attentive. Will definitely be returning soon

I am now a regular to this fab cafe!! The food is fast served and amazing quality which is backed up by the amazing atmosphere and smiley service! Menu caters for all varying from english breakfast to spanish tapas. Would definitely recommend as a place to eat to family and friends. All in all a fabulous place!

We actually went to this café back in half term and my son was talking about it yesterday which reminded me that I should write the review. My in-laws are in Shrewsbury and her and my husband and 2 young children 3&5 visited one lunch. WOW. Really really impressed with the market as first time visitor but this café is absolutely great. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The kids got to play with Lego at the table and the food was outstanding. The chicken and potato dish was so tasty I asked the chef for the recipe which she was more than happy to give. Even the simple bread and olives were delicious. The owner from Valencia made the experience and we had a wonderful lunch together and didn't leave a scrap! Worth every penny. For the people who wrote the negative review regarding the large bill. The menu that lists all the dishes and drinks, where you choose what you want to have has the prices on. Just saying......

I had a fantastic evening in Morgans, only £25 for amazing tapas and live music. I usually go over to the market when in Shrewsbury to eat at AleOli so this was a treat. The only downside was a group trying to run out on the bill, and their bad attitude from the minute they arrived. I hope my next visit to Shrewsbury coincides with another Morgans evening. 11/10!

Where to start...the menu was curated to showcase the flavours of Spain; the gazpacho shot exploded with fresh flavour, followed by the classic combination of ham and honey melon, salty and sweet; crumbed whitebait with garlic mayonnaise, rustic tomato and garlic salad, lemon chicken, bread, olives, cheese and honey ham (direct from Spain) bean and feta salad with fresh mint and live music...my friends and I had a great night... we were also bemused to watch the chef and another patron chase down a group of four trying to do a runner. LOLs when I recognised one of them on the one star review, each to their own - if you want a £15.95 meal with drinks try wimpies or Burger King. I can say my friends and I can't wait for the next one my only suggestion jugs of sangria.

Well, last night was one of the most terrible meals I’ve ever had. We went to Morgan’s with some friends who were staying for the night for their wine and dine for £15.95. We turn up, as no one was answering the phone and asked if they were still serving food as we could see it was busy. Then we just get dragged to a table which already has food there! It was a tapas night, AleOli had hired out the place for the night.

I was at the Tapas Night at Morgans on Thursday 28 June 2018 and can and judge the negative review of this event to be vindictive .I believe the four people involved were fully informed of the cost involved before they made up a table. They seemed to enjoy themselves and certainly had four person dishes of the nine tapas served. Some of these were simple but tasty while others were excellent. Certainly 9 tapas dishes for £25 is a fair price by any normal standard, especially as it was private function with first class live music. The people concerend rather spoilt their case by walking out without paying, but fortunately our excellent hostess followed them out and persuaded them to pay rather thatn commit a very questionable act.

We stopped here for a white coffee in a very large cup and snap we had the home,ade garlic bread which was beautifully cooked very pleasant place very friendly staff and very reasonable.Worth a visit .

Dined for dinner 2/6/18. Amazing authentic Spanish tapas food and very attentive service especially the lovely Maryana. Unfortunately there was a overly loud table in the far corner that were politely asked to be respectful of other diners and they caused a commotion. The staff handled it excellently and apologised to us which they didn't need too! Will recommend 100% and i shall be back!

We visited the June late night market opening. Cafe AleOli was rammed but were taking bookings. The staff had a well oiled system running and were smiling throughout what must have been a difficult night. We were given regular updates and delicious sangria whilst we waited. Finally we sat down to lovingly prepared authentic tapas ( the chorizo was particularly good). The bill was astonishingly good value. A big shout out to the fabulous staff for their attitude and smiles.

This was our second visit to cafe AleOli and was just as delicious as the first time. Glad to see the pinchos we’re still on the menu as they were fabulous. We also had the Patatas bravas, ham croquettes, garlic prawns and when we asked if we could have the cod croquettes that weren’t on the main menu, they were more than happy to oblige. The service was excellent and the staff very friendly and courteous. Can’t wait to visit next time we’re in shrewsbury. I just wish the market was in our town so we could go more often

Food is nice enough, very tasty tapas for the most part. The chicken dish was particularly pleasing, I thought. I wasn't that keen on the chorizo, for some reason, maybe they should try another brand.

On my day off I decided to visit the Market Hall in Shrewsbury because I had heard very good reviews of Cafe AleOli from my friends. I am not disappointed. Great food Lovely staff and Sweet atmosphere. Ready for the rest of my day.

Called in at Shresbury en route to Wales and stopped off for a bite to eat at the Cafe AleOli. It being the second of January a lot of the market was closed, but the cafe was doing a brisk trade. We picked six of seven different dishes (mushrooms, garlic prawns, meatballs, mixed salad, lots of bread) - all of which was served promtly and as ordered.

We were lucky and turned up quite early ( 12 ish ) for lunch, and got a table. Had some tapas which was great and homemade soup which was lovely. Good prices, excellent staff. The paella was lovely!!!!!

Stopped here while shopping. Choice of tapas and other foods . We had mixed salad, tortilla, patatas bravas, meat balls and chorizo. OMG it was lovely. Lovely and hot too. Friendly staff. Would highly recommend. The bill was reasonable for what we had . Well worth it

Visited today with three friends for tapas. We shared six dishes which were exceptional and excellent value. Coffee is also very good. I also had breakfast here recently and it was top notch

Calimari was the weakest dish, still nice though. 8 dishes or tapas and 3 drinks for 45quid. We didnt have brekky.

We have visited Cafe AleOli and number of times and will continue to do so as the food is delicious. We have tried many of the tapas dishes and cannot express how tasty and how well presented they were. This is definitely one of our favourite places to eat. See you again very soon.

Have been trying to get to this place for a while after reading the good reviews, we finally got to have lunch there and the food was just lovely, staff very friendly, the prices are very cheap and we thoroughly enjoyed the tapas we had.we shall return on our next visit to shrewsbury.

We called in here for lunch when we stayed in Shrewsbury for a few days this week. I have to say that this place is fantastic. Very friendly and efficient staff/owner - who made our visit an absolute pleasure. (we did try the good life later, thanks for the tip...)The food was gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous. We had the prawns and chorizo skewers, the patatas bravas, and the calamari. Just right for lunch, along with a glass of white wine each. Delicious. The price, the location - but above all the quality of the food was just perfect. To find a place like this in the market hall is fantastic. Incidentally, THE best market hall we've seen anywhere.Thanks again, when we're next in town, we know where we're having lunch!

Ive been going to Aleoli every time i visit friends in the area and it just gets better and better... authentic tasty food, great service and a lively friendly atmosphere, cant recommend it enough! A hidden gem!

Thank you so much for a fantastic night helping us celebrate my sons 20th Birthday. We couldn't believe how busy you were but nothing seemed to be a problem. Great value for money and nothing was a problem everyone was friendly and the atmosphere was great.. We will be back for our next visit.

I am putting this review up to confirm that the review from Helen, Oswestry is exactly what happened last Saturday night (2 September). We arrived to find a table for four was reserved for us instead of six even though the owner had confirmed the reservation with me. We were all appalled at the way the couple were treated. After the couple were rudely moved the Manager went on to hit the table and shouted did we want to stay! We all said no as the atmosphere was so awful. It was such a shame as we were all really looking forward to it and I felt awful as I had arranged it. We couldn't then find a table for the six of us anywhere else in the Market Hall so ended up having to go elsewhere. We did see the couple and told them we didn't stay. They really need to review their customer service.

I have never had to write a bad review of anywhere before and to be honest I really wouldn't unless I thought it absolutely necessary. My husband and I went to Shrewsbury Market Hall last night for an evening out. Generally I have to say the experience in other bars and restaurants was absolutely fantastic but not so in AleOli! We arrived at 5.50 and the restaurant had lots of tables booked, understandable on a busy night. We were offered a table up to 7 o'clock by a friendly waitress but told we would need to finish before 7. All fine so far. The same waitress then kindly came back to say would we like to move to another table where we could take our time. I thanked her and moved to the other table. Then another waitress whom I assume was in a management role came up to the table and said in a very abrupt tone 'this table is BOOKED, you cannot sit here, why are you sat here? Reading this it doesn't seem to bad but honestly her manner and tone was really very intimidating. I explained as above and said that I had been told to sit here. She then very loudly said NO (she pretty much spat this out at me) you will have to leave. At this point a few waitresses were around us and she shouted at them too. I said very politely considering how I was spoken to I didn't think she needed to speak to me in the manner she did. She then slammed her hand on the table so angrily and abruptly that I jumped as she was just to the left of me and I couldn't see her face. As she did this she shouted MOVE! We got up and left after saying we thought it was a disgusting way to treat a customer. We then went to the Mexican restaurant which was absolutely lovely and thankfully had amazing staff! Two lovely ladies then approached us and said they were the two who had actually had the table booked and that they had refused the table based on how we were spoken to. It was a horrible and upsetting experience and one I would never wish to repeat.

Great place and justifiably popular due to a great menu, great service, good prices, great staff, and Im sure this place will get even better.

We visited around a month ago - just hubby, son and myself. The food was good but some items were missed off and we were charged for them. It wasn't a problem and the items were taken off the bill. Didn't think too much of it and were happy to take our friends from USA there today. We ordered a fair few dishes and they were generally tasty. The Serrano ham croquettes didn't seem to contain any ham but were tasty nonetheless. Our calamari didn't arrive and we mentioned to our guests that this happened last time and we just need to check the bill as we were charged last time. The calamari was on the bill and I pointed this out to the waitress who didn't apologise that we hadn't had it but said she'd have it removed from the bill. Minutes later the lady owner came to the table and wanted to confirm that we hadn't had it. I confirmed and she said "only the waitress remembers clearing the plate with mayo on it", suggesting that all 5 of us may have been mistaken and actually had the calamari without noticing. I was embarrassed in front of my guests and frankly quite cross that it was insinuated that we were maybe trying to get away with reducing our bill dishonestly. We won't be going back.

We regularly come to Shrewsbury for the day and love Spanish tapas. Why we've never been to Cafe AleOli before I'll never know but it will be our first and only choice in future. Every dish was freshly cooked and piping hot and absolutely delicious. I recommend the pork pinchos especially. Can't wait to return

I just love the Ale Oli tapas resto. My village stretches from the river Severn, up the hill through the smashing Quarry Park and taking in the beautiful dingle to the stunning, circular St Chads church and then down Claremont Hill to Shrewsbury's wonderful indoor market where I do almost all my shopping, fruit and veg, meat and fish. cheese and deli, plus about six great places to eat, but for me the chief of these is the Ale Oli tapas bar where I stop for breakfast or coffee on almost every day it is open, with my special day being Saturday where I always have their super paella for lunch. with red wine plus a coffee to follow as I read my Guardian. I always get cheerful smiles and greetings from Fran and her lovely girls and am really made to feel at home with the great food, pleasant atmosphere and attentive service. Yes it is the centre of my village, but everything is good in the super friendly market where the huge variety of goods on sale is all excellent and the stall holders all have ready smiles and a cheery word. Viva el Mercado.

Just ate there lunch food was great, really friendly staff. They agreed to make a meal from the breakfast menu even though it was lunchtime.

Such a great find today; vegetarian and lover of tapas, so this is perfect.Nice atmosphere with friendly staff (so nice not to be asked how we're doing every give minutes). Had a morning coffee today and decided to return a couple of hours later for lunch! So glad we did as it was a beautifully cooked selection of dishes cooked to order by authentic cook!! Such friendly staff, ( nothing would be too much trouble!) that the experience will HAVE to be repeated.......very soon !! Would highly recommend this delightful little restaurant.

Three of us had lunch here two had the prawns in butter and garlic, presented in a small frying pan, with ciabatta slices to dip in the sauce. I had the garlic chicken and bacon salad. Obviously inquisitive as to what the prawns tasted like I had one each from sister and wife. They were lovely. As for mine it to was exceedingly tasty, just a good job they didn't want any they would have been disappointed to have their request declined!......would certainly recommend this venue!

Risked trying here for lunch today. Very friendly and helpful considering we didn't have a clue about tapas. A different and delicious lunch followed washed down with a decent Spanish red. All for under £30 for 2. Looking forward to our next visit.

Visited this place after seeing it on TripAdvisor and I was not disappointed. It's located within the market place which some people may think is a strange place for a restaurant, however it was simply perfect. The market place itself is by far the best I've ever visited with a number of fabulous independent eateries and stalls. All eateries looked amazing however this was our top pick and I'm so glad we chose to eat here. The staff were so lovely. The owner/manager is a friendly English lady who used to live in Spain. The cooks and other staff were Spanish and I think this makes it one of the best Spanish restaurants I've ever been to. The food, which is all authentic Spanish tapas, was simply stunning. So tasty, great portion sizes and very reasonable prices. The pictures on this site don't do it justice. It really cannot be missed.

visited here for breakfast last weekend with my teenage son. great find. you just wouldn't know it was here. lovely atmosphere and lovely owner who was very cheerful and spoke to us like we had been friends for ages. breakfast was lovely, coffee great. and we checked out the menu for lunch and we will be definitely be returning soon with my hubby. Menu was fantastic and good prices. Can't wait to return.

Reminds me of tapas in the market's in Spain. Authentic food and lovely staff who take care of you! Cold meat platter amazing great meatballs and paella washed down with quality wine. I will be back!

A friend recommended Cafe AleOli which is in the market hall in Shrewsbury. We were welcomed by Sherry, who was a fantastic host, ready to offer advice on what we should choose from the extensive menu and chatting like we were old friends. The food was delicious and well presented and the atmosphere was great. It was like we had been transported to the Mediterranean. It is a hidden gem, deep inside the market hall which is a great experience in itself.

Service was great, they recommended things from the menu and also what to do in Shrewsbury. Food was very good and prompt, we went for the cold meats and a few tapas dishes.

Shopping in the Market Hall and decided to stop for a coffee at this cafe which I'd not tried before, but so glad I did. Ordered a sausage sandwich which came in granary bread and locally sourced sausage from within the market which was absolutely delicious!! Service was friendly, seating comfortable. Will definitely be back to try some of their other delights.

My husband and I stopped by the market on a Saturday to do a shop and decided to stop for lunch at AleOli. We ordered a small platter of cured meats, olives and manchego cheese to share and a few tapas: garlic prawns, albondigas and calamari. The sharing platter in particular was delicious and made a perfect light lunch on its own. The albondigas were probably the best ones I've ever had! We had a really nice lunch with very friendly service. Highly recommended!

Excellent lunch would highly recommend, food and wine was very good including the service. The pork cheeks melted in your mouth, the ham croquets were just perfect
