This is most atrocious service I have received in the café in Brighton-Firstly I’d like to say I’ve been a patron to this place for around 3 years and prior to lock down and have literally spent £100’s of pound on food and drinks-We have even had a children party in there. I took my 10 year old son in there today as he was off school because his grandfather had passed away and he was suffering from anxiety after attending his funeral the day before. I ordered a cup of tea and asked to play the Mario brothers game (something we’ve done many times!) and was asked to pay using a card. I checked my wallet and only had cash for the £2.95 and this was refused by the waiter, however he proceeded to ask the ‘Manager ‘if they would accept the cash? The ‘Manager’ came over and said I could make a ‘Substantial donation instead”(What ever that means??), however I would not receive my cup of tea. I initially agreed to this and gave him £3.00 uk pounds in cash then thought actually why ‘errrr’’Donate’ and not actually receive my ‘ordered’ cup of tea??! This is café right? and I have UK tender to purchase goods and services, however you are refusing to give me a cup of tea which is what you SELL as a cafe and will take my cash for a donation instead?? (is this actually IILEGAL?) I mean what is the donation for ? are you a supporting charity? Or commercial business? Seriously I challenged this totally ridiculous ritual as it was rather 'silly’ and the Manager who lacked any customer care and empathy as I told him why we were there then told me ‘Not to come again!! Which was utterly unprofessional and rude! How can you expect to retain customers with this type of crappy rude service ! I mean it was just a ‘Cup of tea’ and would make no difference to your balance sheet and don't tea bags come in boxes of 100’s and are actually 1p each! I feel like you were ripping me off and exploiting the fact that I was a mum with a young child! My son who is only ten burst into tears and we left and felt humiliated and bullied by the Manager. Sadly I feel I will not be returning.

Great relaxed placed for a beer, a bite and a board game (and video games). Good choice of vegan food (jackfruit fries are lovely). Friendly, helpful staff - and a great seaside view - what more do you want?

fantastic view, right on the seafront. It's wheelchair accessible thanks to a handy little ramp which is wonderful. Great food, the Hoisin Jackfruit burger is to die for. Really nice and unique sodas too. It's a little expensive but for a day out its not bad. It does fill you up. The board games are really fun though I didn't manage to play any of the video games. The staff are really sweet, attentive and helpful. LBGTQIA+ friendly and overall it's a bit of a nerd haven too. Fantastic place, today is my first visit and I know I will be visiting it again. It's so fun, but expect to spend a few hours there if you decided to play any games.

C:\ Side Quest and the Loading bars in general are simply some of the most comfortable, bright and friendly places around London (and Brighton). Great events are held and gaming entertainment is available of course even if there's no event on. They also allow food to be brought in from anywhere when they don't have a kitchen (it's great to have some variety). This particular venue doesn't have a full bar setup as its on the sea front, so the menu is limited but obviously good considering it's location!

Having visited several times since they first opened, I've been putting off writing a bad review because I've always wanted this place to be better than it is, and always hoped that they'd find their feet and improve things over time. Unfortunately this hasn't happened at all. On the positive side, the console games are great, there are some good board games, I appreciate not having to pay a cover charge to use the games (we always get drinks/ sometimes food), there are nice big tables, I like the gender neutral bathroom, and the views out the sea are fantastic. The selection of board games could better (and bigger), in my opinion. I appreciate that this is very subjective but last time I went here there really wasn't much that I wanted to play. It gets very loud when it's busy (inevitable with lots of people drinking and playing social games) so some kind of sound proofing on the ceiling would really help the atmosphere - the noise doesn't make it feel lively in a good way, it's just loud. In terms of cleanliness the tables aren't always cleared and wiped that well, and the bathroom has quite a strong musty smell and is full of cobwebs. The food was fine the last time we ate there except for the fact that my vegan baguette had a piece of pork on the bottom of the bread, so it had been contaminated in the kitchen because they don't seem to have a separate work space for the vegan items. Since that happened I won't order food again. The staff did seem to realise that pork being found on a vegan item is a bad mistake and offered a refund, but I had to chase them to actually get the refund back on my card - they just apologised, said they'd refund me and walked off, so I had to make it happen myself before we left about an hour later. This is entirely representative of the level of customer service I've had every time I've been there. There has been a mistake every time, and they apologise, but they never follow through with the extra step to rectify the problem. The staff seem like nice enough people but I've never had even adequate service there - and I don't expect a big song and dance from servers - just the basics. Having worked in hospitality for over a decade I completely understand all of the things that can and do go wrong, but there's a way to deal with things. The place needs a really good manager or two who can deal with the busy periods and keep the standards high in the ways that matter whilst keeping the atmosphere friendly and casual. The whole place is so close to being good that it's really disappointing to consistently have bad experiences there.

I try to get here about once a month. It's the best place in Brighton to go if you fancy board games with friends. The bar staff have always been friendly and the drinks are good (though I don't understand why I have to return to my table and wait for them). Their vegan doughnuts are the best doughnuts I've ever tasted (and I'm not vegan). Food is a bit overpriced though. My friend had a burger that was extremely tasty but rather small and didn't even come with chips. I wouldn't say this is a place to visit FOR food. It's a place you visit to play games and you happen to eat whilst you're there because you'll be having such a great time you'll want to stay for hours!

Located on the seafront with a lovely view of the pier, it is the perfect place for a games cafe. Even once the sun has set, it is a brilliant place to be. The selection of board and computer games is gigantic. There are plenty to choose from, and they are all in good condition. Although we didn't get to use any of the computer games, their equipment was very impressive and high-end. The food and drink was also very nice, but took a while longer to arrive than it should.

I like the idea of this cafe. The gaming side was really smart with an array of new and retro games both video and board games. The staff were all friendly but honestly didn’t know what was going on. We were frequently visited by the waiting staff with food and drinks that weren’t ours. We saw a few tables that were left uncleared too which I found wasn’t very inviting to any more potential punters. Silly mistake really. The food, well it really isn’t Vietnamese. Coriander and Chilli with some Mooli doesn’t make your meal taste like Vietnam. To really spoil the experience my partner ordered the salad which was very poor quality for the price, was mostly iceberg lettuce and we sadly found a hair amongst it. We complained and did get a sincere apology along with our money back for the dish. We also ordered the Banh Mi with Pulled Pork which was nice, fries were tasty and we also ordered the squid which was good but the idea that this food is like Vietnamese street food is diabolical. I’m not sure I’d see french dressing on a salad in Vietnam nor would you be served ketchup or mayo with your chips! Very limited menu as well. What we ordered was basically everything that was available. A good selection of drinks though and like I said, the gaming element of the place is really awesome!

A totally fun and unique hangout spot. Met a friend here for drinks and games - there was a great selection for both! We ended up choosing a board game, but it looked like there were a lot of options of video games as well. The service was a little slow, and the prices were a little high - but we were all willing to overlook this because the place itself was so fun. Worth checking out! Sidenote: It took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out that this nerdy spot on the beach is actually pronounced "Seaside Quest!'

I really love the idea of this place, with various gaming options for patrons such as consoles, arcade machines and boardgames along with Vietnamese food and an interesting array of drinks. Unfortunately when we visited they seemed to be struggling with how busy it was, the food was all well prepared and drinks good but both took quite some time to arrive. Then some of our friends arrived later to discover that they had run out of supplies for the kitchen so couldn't order anything food related. However the children enjoyed playing on the various consoles and the rest of us looked at the boardgames but with very young ones with us it was impossible to partake.

Hidden little gem! Found this place after coming out of the sea life centre, my partner and I fancied some lunch so chose to try this place out. Very simple, basic menu, but perfect for the type of place it is. Very quirky, with board games inside, and game stations etc. I ordered the loaded chilli fries and my partner had the sweet chilli chicken baguette. A little overpriced probably for what it was, the chips aren’t a massive portion and cost £8:50 but I suppose that’s Brighton prices for you. If you want somewhere a bit different and quirky, this is your place though! Would definitely return.

Stumbled upon this spot when it started drizzling (after laying on the beach all morning). This little shop was a God-sent! My friends and I had so much fun playing games (they have an enormous selection to choose from!) and sipping ciders! The atmosphere was perfect and the staff was so lovely and helpful! I WILL be back when I'm next in Brighton!

Love this place! The staff are really lovely. The food is great, and you can play a lot of video games / boardgames there too.Perfect any time of the day. Both short and long stays. Love coming here for a chilled lunch, coffee and evening beer. If you can catch this place when it isn’t overly busy then you will have an amazing time.Special shoutout to the girl with short black hair and glasses (Celia I think?) who went out of her way to assist and make me feel welcome!

Me and my Partner have wanted to come here for a very long time. Every time we've tried on a weekend it had been full! Friday afternoon was perfect. We tried a game called gloom which we had never played. It was tricky to understand the rules but when we did we loved It! They do all kind of beers and teas. Waitress was very kind and chatty also. Will be back for gloom and trying out more games! Hopefully with more people.

Happened upon this place when we needed somewhere to cool off on a hot, busy day. We had soft drinks (you could only order alcohol with food) and sat down looking at the beach. There was a great selection of board games and my 12 year old chose ‘family trivial pursuit’ (we also have a 6 year old). When asked what the best part of the day was, both boys said this bar! The staff are very friendly and we liked the look of the food (it was Vietnamese or burger (beef or beetroot)) but weren’t hungry at the time. Cocktails are £9. Would definitely come again!

I came in with some friends and I ordered food and a coffee. Whilst ordering food the server was talking to another staff member whilst serving me too. I ordered a baguette, chips and a coffee. I’m sitting at my table and 4 food items had been offered to me and I said no that’s not my food, when my food eventually arrived they gave another baguette on the same tray that was not mine. Half way through eating the baguette I ordered a male waiter came up to me and accused me of eating someone else’s food. He was then reluctant to let me keep the fries I ordered! 5 minutes later , the male waiter came back and said” actually you didn’t pay for the fries so you need to pay for them”. I thought this was incredibly rude! I had ordered fries but the server didn’t put them through so as it’s not my fault I shouldn’t be spoken to like id stolen something. I work in this industry and if my staff made a mistake I would accept it and speak to them not demand money off of customers. On the positive side it’s a quirky cafe with lots of activities

What a find! Sunday evening and we were wandering along the beach having watched the amazing spectacle of the starling murmuration all around the pier, and just found this hive of sociability, packed with "students", all playing games, drinking, chatting and eating too. Decked out casually like a student common room and full of every sort of game you can imagine, from chess to computer games with all the usual suspects inbetween, like cluedo and connect4.We spent a very easy hour, getting warm, having a drink, and, of course, playing a game! Very friendly bar staff and, although we were about 30 years over the average age, were made to feel very at home!Couldn't take any more pics as it was packed and would have invaded peoples privacy...People were in big groups so quite hard to get a table...Highly recommend!

We spent a quiet Tuesday evening here enjoying their great selection of board games and tasty craft beers. So glad we came down nice and early as there were so many we wanted to play. Not to mention they have 4 big TV screens with Xbox, PS4, Switch and a Snes mini and also some arcades and pinball to enjoy too! The atmosphere and staff here are perfect, we will most definitely be back very soon to try the games we didn't have time for, C: Side Quest is my new favourite place!!

As stylish as East London as chilled and forward thinking as Berlin. Small but good quality vegan menu- burgers with chips and sides, the mozzarella sticks really are incredible, as is the garlic mayo! There is also a bar and a coffee bar. There are four large monitors with x boxes and play stations, a plethora of board games and plenty of seating. The seating is really spaced out which gives it a really spacious, indulgent feel, like the people that established it wanted to emulate a Dutch approach of spacious happiness. What I love about this place is that despite its location (right next to the beach and in close proximity to The Pier) it has a clear identity of who it is. This place will massively catch on! Plus it's open 11am to 11pm, damn good. Try it out asap mkay guyzz

C/Side Quest hosts the Cactus Kitchen which serves vegan food. The cafe directly fronts the beach near the Zip Wire so is fabulously located. In the darkest days of December it was busy so I am guessing it is going to be heaving in the summer and good luck to them. The cafe is for games - loads of box games but also four PS4 consoles, a pin ball and space invaders which is fun.The food is vegan with a great selection of beers and cocktails. Also gluten free options which is very good to see. We had the bratwurst and fries and deep fried 'mozzarella' sticks. It was all yummy. We did not have our dog with us but there was a filled dog bowl inside which makes us think it is pet friendly although we did not check this.

Walking through Kemptown we stumbled across this place. Is very small but has a much needed and appreciated outside area. The barman was lovely & sitting there watching the world walk by in the sun enjoying cold alcoholic beverages was gorgeous.

Went into Small Batch, Hove Station at 4.20 pm yesterday. I ordered a coffee as a dine-in customer. Was told that I would have to use a take away cup as they would be closing soon. I left but not before telling the cashier that I would have drunk my coffee within 10 minutes. Small Batch website indicates that they close at 5.00 pm. BTW there were no other customers. Anyway, I went down the road and gave another coffee shop my business.

Unfortunately, even though there were many things right I'll be avoiding this place. The service was impeccable, good beer, perfect lighting and lovely music. So what was wrong? A coven of aggressive women believing they ran the place because they'd booked a table. At their request the music, that I'd been enjoying, was turned off so they could conduct their meeting whilst sipping peppermint tea. I'd suggest a pub isn't an ideal place for this sort of thing. Especially if you're hell-bent on spoiling the atmosphere for everyone else. Sadly, they're regulars.
