Food was as excellent as ever, good size tapas portions, great choice and flavours, reasonably priced. Service was friendly but slow on this occasion - have had much better service here in the past. But it would not stop me going back to this lovely little independent restaurant.

Good selection of small plates, with dishes from across the Mediterranean. I would say the quality of the food was consistently good but not mind blowing. Aubergine parmigiana was particularly good though and good selection of veggie options.

The food, a mix of Greek and Spanish, is excellent. The best halloumi Saganaki I've ever had! Very vegetarian friendly. Not much atmosphere, but it was 7pm on a Tuesday in April (there for a gig at the Hare & Hounds)

We dined early so hard to judge the atmosphere as we and another couple where the only diners in there.

The food was delicious, but the waiter was not friendly.he barely acknowledged or spoke to us.maybe he had had a bad day but we did feel unwelcome.

Good little find just around the corner from the Hare & Hounds. We arrived without a booking so took a chance and luckily there was a table available. Really friendly service and tasty food. We had the pork belly, steak, kebab and croquettes. Aside form the pork belly being a little dry on one piece (good crackling though) the food was really good and we cleaned our plates. Would definitely return again if in the area.

Came here on recommendation, will not come again , paella was awful bland no colour and no crust on bottom of pan , probably the worst paella I have ever had , service was ok and staff friendly, wine was nice and a reasonable price , seats were hard and uncomfortable and the place was cold and to brightly lite

We came in on Saturday without a reservation and the staff were so welcoming, the food was excellent, especially the pork belly and the Moroccan meatballs, my wife had some of the fish tapas and she was delighted. We were too full for dessert but what we saw coming out the kitchen looked mouth watering, next time we'll save space for pudding too

In theory full of promise in practice disappointing experience. Being Greek the name Byzantium brings a sense of nostalgia and as its local we thought we give it a try. Firstly we made an online boking and they couldnt find it. The seating uncomfortable, the paintings on the wall tilted, the door hanging from the weight and you need to man handle it to open it. The food, at best average and I mean at best and we tried amost the entire menu. Tiny portions lacking flavour and seasoning. The chicken and lamb skewers were so thin almost identical with the skewer stick in width, never seen that before and because they were so thin they arrived cold. I mean I understand they need to make money but... The fish bites didnt have any fish, calamari and prawns are not fish. Can't recommend a single dish maybe the patatas bravas but even those were full of sugar. Half hearted effort by the cook cause it definetly wasnt a chef, in conclusion not for foodies. Won't be going again and its a shame cause we want to support the locals. I am a big spender when it comes to food but 2 adults and a 6 year old £100 with the tip, felt like day-light robbery for their food.

Fabulous evening out with my family - including my little boy, who was well looked after by the staff! Food was amazing - great selection of tapas - we ordered a big selection and everything tasted so good! Service was excellent, and our waiter was very friendly. Great atmosphere. We will be returning.

My mother had been talking to me about this place incessantly, a place she had visited with her friends some time ago. So, tonight, I decided to indulge her and we went there for dinner. The place is situated on a lively street full of pubs and restaurants in King's Heath, which adds to its charm. Upon entering, we found ourselves in a rather small first room where we dined. The space was quite limited, both in terms of table size (we had to combine two tables) and seating arrangements. Fortunately, we were in luck as there weren't many patrons that evening, allowing us some room. We each ordered three tapas dishes (they were indeed quite small, but that's the nature of tapas), and I must admit that I was pleasantly shocked by the flavors. The taste of the food was so impeccable that it alone would warrant a 5-star rating. This is undeniably one of the finest eateries in Birmingham where one can savor distinct and incredibly delicious flavors. The service was also good, though not flawless for a couple of reasons: We had to wait for 35 minutes for our dishes (though the wait was worthwhile, and we were not in a rush). The kitchen closed at 9:30 pm. I'm not certain if this is a Birmingham norm, but it does mean that you cannot order additional items if you desire. Setting aside these two points, which I would like to emphasize are not complaints but rather observations about my experience – an experience that was far from disappointing – we had a delightful time. I must say, it was a splendid surprise, and we intend to return without a doubt. The prices are a bit steep, but if you're seeking an exceptional dining experience, I wholeheartedly recommend it. Special thanks go to Emma and the unnamed server who brought our food. Both displayed a high level of professionalism and courtesy.

Lovely atmosphere and surroundings in restaurant. Great range of drinks including 0% alcohol Peroni and San Pellegrino soft drinks. We had a mix of tapas from meat, fish, veg dishes. All tasted delicious and good portions. The vanilla and especially the pistachio gelato were to die for, best gelato I think I've ever had. Cost about £30 per person with drinks. Only hiccups were wrong drinks served and wrong dessert but corrected straight away. Restaurant owner was very helpful and gave off relaxed vibes and quality service. Will definitely come back soon.

A party of 12 attended the restaurant in May for a special occasion. Before I wrote a review I wanted to give the restaurant an opportunity to respond to our complaint and concerns and after 2 weeks non were forthcoming therefore we need to advise other people of the issues. The main issue is that our daughter suffers from a peanut allergy and at no-point did anyone ask about allergies when booking or when taking orders as other restaurants do and the menu online or at the restaurant does not state which items may contain nuts or lists any other allergies, it just tells the consumer to ask about allergies. This is not the way it should be or the way other restaurants work. My daughter ordered the chocolate pudding and it was only when it arrived that my I saw visible nuts and asked about the ingredients, immediately the waiter did not know. He went away to ask and then advised us that the pudding contained nuts on the surface and within the pudding. If I had not noticed this, it could have resulted in my daughter having a very serious reaction. I really do not feel that the restaurant is doing sufficient to protect customers and should really review and change the policy with regards to allergies. The other issue is, that we were seated upstairs, which is fine but from previous experience we feared that the service would not be very good as we had experienced last time when seated upstairs. The waiters appear to forget about you and we had to go downstairs on several occasions to chase for drinks, insufficient wine glasses for the wine and then the food took so long to arrive that we ended up having to leave without the final dishes as by 9.30 the children were very tired, considering we were seated by 6.30. I feel really disappointed about the entire thing, particularly when it was for a special occasion and when my daughters health was put at risk. Having visited a few times before, unfortunately we won’t be returning.

We were a group of 5 seated upstairs and had a wonderful evening. Small tapas plates (2 each) plus patatas bravas, flat breads and dips. Great variety of food all tasty and hot. Delivered by two different waiters, both attentive without being intrusive. I enjoyed it so much I booked to go again.

Service was a little slow, but it was all very much worth the wait. Food was great and the staff went above and beyond what I would have expected. I will be back!😋

Deeeeelicious. Son who ‘doesn’t like tapas’ loved it, thank you chef Antonello. Meatballs gorgeous and chicken skewers too. We had 3 dishes each plus flatbread to share and we were stuffed and couldn’t finish. Elias served us and he’s a blast. Ask him where/where not to go in Italy!

We needed something fairly quick but not junk food, at 6pm. Byzantium was perfect. Their range of meat, fish and vegetable tapas dishes for £6-£9 each is served in a pleasantly authentic restaurant in Kings Heath within walking distance of the pay and display car park. We didn't reserve, but I should think it's a good idea later in the evening. Will come back here for a proper meal.

Food was nice with a good selection, however expensive in comparison to what you actually got! Plates were very small, I’ve never seen a chicken skewer so small! Almost like they were a party buffet size! Service to bring the food was fine, but had to wait ages and then call someone over 15-20 minutes after we’d finished to clear the plates, then wait again for the desert menu. Desert was a bit of an anti climax! Quite clearly cake warmed up in a microwave as my friends cake was stale. My ‘Moroccan orange cake’ had no taste of orange at all! Won’t be returning in a hurry!

We were really disappointed with our visit to Byzantium. The service was absolutely appalling and almost non-existent. We waited at least 15 minutes after sitting down to order a drink, the staff were hardly ever in the restaurant felt like they were just sat in the kitchen. The food was very average, had one nice dish but the rest was poor and over-priced. Felt sick most of the following day. The seating area in the restaurant is quite pleasant that’s the only positive thing I can think of. Won’t be going back that’s for sure.

Went with my husband on a Friday night. I had seen this restaurant quite a few times on trip advisor but assumed that it was Asian food. Its Mediterranean tapas, fresh and lovely. Food was lovely, although smaller portions, we had lamb and chicken skewers, very disappointed, both came out trimmed down all sides about 2cm squared. I've never seen this before! I expected chunks of meat on a skewer. Sat upstairs and was quite cold, need a good heater. Would definitely go again though, lovely ambiance and nice food.

Visited a Saturday lunch with family for my daughters birthday, no faults , food fabulous, atmosphere fabulous and service great. Look forward to going back

Have been many times before, but went on Saturday evening, they looked full, however service was quick and friendly. The restaurant has extra seating upstairs which we were unaware of, which meant we were able to be seated straight away. All the food was excellent and enjoyable, my friend ordered the halloumi saganaki and loved it, she ordered a second dish of it immediately. A lovely installation for York road and one I would highly recommend

I love this place and my recent visit with my parents didn’t disappoint at all. My Dad has a lot of food allergies and our young lady server treated us with care and made sure he could eat everything we ordered that wasn’t the flatbread (which is ok, my mum and I made short work of that, it was thin, crispy, fresh and delicious!). Probably more of a payday treat kind of place but honestly worth every penny to me. Thank you so much guys, again!

Me and my husband visited your restaurant on 5th March and we were not disappointed. I was looking for somewhere a bit different to eat and came across your restaurant. Upon arrival we were shown to our table. We ordered some drinks and looked through the food menu. The food all sounded amazing and I could easily of chosen everything. We had a garlic and chilli flatbread with zalouk which was delicious. We chose the prawn in garlic sauce, meatballs, lamb skewers potato alioli, and the vegetable paella. Oh my the food was delicious. So tasty and well presented. We both had the affagato to finish which was delicious. Highly recommend this place if your looking for somewhere different to eat. Will definitely be back again. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

Small restaurant with a separate small area to the back. We had a variety of tapas, pretty much all they had on the menu, but about half the menu wasn't available, mostly the interesting non-standard tapas dishes. It was busy, and mid-week between Xmas and New Year, but still a bit annoying. Will try again another time.

I'd wanted to go there for a long time as the type of food reminds me of home. I was not disappointed. The food was incredibly delicious and there was such a big choice in the menu! But the best part of the experience was the great personal attention and friendly treatment from the staff! They made me feel very welcome and special, like they'd been expecting me for a long time! I will definitely return there again!

Went Saturday evening at 6pm. Very quiet only 3 tables but turned two lots of people. Needed to ask who the tapas worked. The waiting staff were friendly and advised on dishes. One dish was no longer made so menu needs updating. Ordered 6 dishes...

Everything about our evening at Byzantium was fabulous. The menu was so appealing and everything we chose was mouth watering. The halloumi saganaki tapas was something not to miss but to be honest so was everything else. So many home made Mediterranean deserts it was difficult to decide. We went for the cannoli and affogato to share which really went well. Lovely atmosphere and great service. Can’t wait to go again.

Slightly disappointed with the hygiene. Ordered Sea bass and there was a hair on it, took it off and didn’t say anything. Second dish came, had a massive black hair in the couscous, sent it back. Quite surprised really!
