I left a positive review about this establishment a year ago but we returned again yesterday (7 October 24) and we were certainly not disappointed. Two lovely, well filled toasties (ham & cheese and tuna, onion & cheese) which were hot and tasty and came with salad. Delicious cakes (chocolate and millionaires shortbread) for afters. Good menu with further selection on “Specials” board. Staff welcoming and very friendly. Facilities clean. Well worth the 2nd visit!

Popped in for coffee and a sandwich. No sandwiches or baguettes despite being advertised in the window. They “can’t do a latte with only one shot” which is ridiculous. A two shot latte arrived all spilled into the saucer. Small coffee cup v poor value for money. Would not recommend not return.

Had a panini and ginger beer for lunch. Panini fine, but pricey at £9.50 with just a small side salad. Was very unhappy to to charged £3.50 for less than half a pint of ginger beer that came from a 2 litre bottle which had obviously not just been opened. I went to an upmarket garden centre two days later and had a Luscombe ginger beer for £2.75.

Met up with friends for lunch today. From the moment we arrived, we received a beaming smile and lovely, welcoming service. Coffee was good, and our lunches were excellent, lasagne and salad, fishcakes, and a Stilton and pear salad. Nice, friendly atmosphere. And dog friendly. We found the part-time Saturday staff to be a real credit to the owner. Would recommend and will definitely return.

We popped in for a light lunch on a Friday just before 1pm. 2 out of 3 of the party were after a soft drink, which were both advertised on the board behind the till. Unfortunately, these were both out of stock. One of us ordered a cup of tea and we were shocked to note the price, which was the same as a cup of coffee. No extra hot water was provided until asked and so a very small pot of tea is provided for the price to begin with. During our visit, the tea cup was accidently knocked, resulting in a spillage. The gentleman helped us to it clear up, however we were not offered a new tea cup or saucer and so had to use a saucer full of tea, until the lady noted and gave us paper towels to soak up the split tea on the saucer. We all wanted to order a panini for lunch, but were told these were all sold out by 1pm (on a busy Friday lunchtime). We all opted for toasted sandwiches instead, however we had to wait around 20-25 minutes for 3x toasted sandwiches and unfortunately they were very basic. The bread was just about toasted, the tomato chucks were far to big for the small sandwich, which meant some bread was soggy and the onion slices were huge and unedable as a result. The tuna was also not mixed with any mayo, so with cheese, it was rather dry. The side salad was very basic with no salad dressing and they all came out looking different on the 3x plates. For the price of £9 each, they didn't even come with crisps. We understand the price of everything has increased dramatically and wouldn't mind paying £9, if what was provided was of good quality and on par with what is served elsewhere. At the end of our lunch, we were not asked if everything was OK and I wonder if that was because the waiting staff knew it wasn't?

Visited Hill Road shops and saw this lovely coffee shop. Ordered an Americana and one shot Latte plus a piece of coffee cake and piece of lemon cake. We sat outside next to what I can only describe as a mouthy nagging old woman and her hen pecked husband. They went inside and ordered after us. As soon as the waitress came out with a tray of food, “mouthy madam” said it’s our order. She then tasted the coffee and decided it wasn’t hers (she had to have decaf) nor the coffee cake which she hadn’t ordered. What turned out, it was actually our order. She complained to the waitress who realised it was our coffee and duly brought the Latte over to me. I refused to accept and asked for a fresh cup. Once we had our correct order, our coffees were hot and tasty and both cakes were delicious (both cakes were moist and tasted of coffee and lemon). To be fair to the cafe, the lady serving inside was under duress as a member of staff had rung in sick and she did apologise in advance for any delay in us getting our order. The extra delay was down to “mouthy madam” confusing the waitress and our order ending up on the wrong table to begin with.

We went into the cafe for lunch today, was immediately impressed by the decor and the hospitable greetings. A member of staff were helpful in finding a highchair for our little one. After checking the menu and chalkboard specials we decided on a Chicken/Mango/Mushroom curry and a bacon, brie and cranberry panini but unfortunately the curry was sold out but not removed from the board. I ended up settling for bacon and grilled tomato on sourdough which is precisely what I got. The bacon, brie and cranberry panini that the wife had was pleasant even if a little too much cranberry in it, for the sourdough I don't know where to begin, the toast was toasted well, there was too much butter on the toast leaving it with the effect of a greasy pool on the toast, you had a rasher of bacon which barely covered two thirds of the toast and half a grilled tomato slapped on top (if they had sliced it then it would of been more presentable and easier to eat). The side salad was rather random, you had the normal items like lettuce leaf, cherry tomato, peppers and red onion and then a slice of melon added on (worked for us as our one year old took delight in eating it). To add to it all we had to pay over £25 for these two meals, a small latte that was over flowing the cup to make a pool in the saucer and a crusha mildhake

We loved the pretty decor, the service was good mid morning, cake and lattes delicious. But two BIG gripes: - very small tea cups for lattes were not good value at all as charged as much as at the best coffee chains for a good sized mug - we sat inside by the window and the extremely loud noise from the constant bashing into the knocking box was deafening. Proper straight sided mugs and a rubber knock box would have given us a great visit.

Whilst the staff were pleasant and friendly, the service was, as other reviewers have said, slow and despite the review in December 2022 the toilets still need a makeover. Dirty skirting boards and an old child’s changing mat do not encourage customers to return. We felt the food was pricey too and there were spelling errors on the menu boards - it should read ‘potatoes’ and ‘avocado’.

The food we ordered ranged from poor to inedible. The soup stole the experience and instead of being potato and leek it tasted like cornflower mixed something indescribable, not only that it was £7.50. We ordered two, the cost of one was refunded when we complained. For the avoidance of doubt no soup was eaten. The rest of the food we ordered was either swimming in grease, for example the halved sausage covered in overdone red onion, or it was just unpleasant. The ham and cheese toastie was impressively poor, badly presented and dreadful to taste. You have to go some way to make a cheese and ham toastie this bad! I am very pleased other people have, judging by the reviews, had a better experience. However my advice would be to avoid going here. I certainly will not return, £43.00 spent on a light lunch that none of us could eat. It wasn’t until I left that I fully understood the sign at the till. This in essence asked for prepayment due to difficulties in collecting payment after the food was served. I certainly wouldn’t have paid after experiencing the quality of the food that I did.

Staff are friendly, but service was at the speed of a snail on Valium. The food was frankly abysmal. Other half had smashed avocado on toast which came with a few lettuce leaves and some grilled tomatoes, which he said was OK but didn’t taste of anything. I’d asked for poached egg and caramelised onion (minus the original sausage proposed in the menu): what I got was two pieces of over-toasted bread with a poached egg on each, slapped unappetisingly onto a plate. A 5-year old could have managed a better looking presentation. We also had two coffees, and the total came to just over £20. Maybe I’m out of touch but that doesn’t seem good value to me.

Dog friendly cafe, which I’m mentioning early into review as we had trouble finding anywhere in the area that was dog friendly. Anyway this is a very cute little cafe/bistro and was very busy when we arrived on a wet Saturday. We ordered coffee/shortbread & coffee cake. All very nice & staff were friendly as well as being professional. Toilet facilities could do with a bit of a makeover. Was also a bit sad to see a young staff member eating her lunch from a sandwich box. It might well hv been her choice, if not surly the owners could provide a sandwich?

Looked for a small café for a light bite. Initial order was taken fairly promptly but the food took nearly 40 mins to come out; an excessively long time for two bacon and Brie toasties, 1 jacket potato and 1 salad. When it arrived the toastie was minus the melon mentioned on the menu, yes odd anyway, but sounded interesting. The bacon was hard and leather-like. The pear and walnut salad was tasty but very watery at the end making it less enjoyable. The jacket potato was supposed to be peppers and goats cheese. However, it was evidentally over done with the spud burnt and the cheese melted either side that had solidified and thus was inedible (you shouldn't be able to hear a knock on goats cheese when you tap it!) Service, whilst polite, was pretty loose and inattentive with a member of our group having to check how much longer we should have to wait. It wasn't worth it, the chef actually bringing it out themselves instead of a staff member. Decor was weird too, bits of it being an attempted upgrade yet other bits like the ceiling looking like they belong to an 80's office. Overall, pretty poor. A shame as it had potential.

Popped in to have a light lunch. A small cafe serving brunch. The waitress who served us was very prompt in bringing our pot of tea. However our food order (a panini) took 35 minutes to arrive and the avocado on toast 40 minutes. A couple who came in after us were served before us as they had apparently reserved and "ordered in advance". Customers should be served in order of arrival. I cannot see how the average number of customers in the coffee shop could warrant such a ridiculously slow food service given the simplicity of the food served. Having said that the food was perfectly nice.

They had had an unusually busy day for a December Saturday so some things had sold out - the mince pies for one- but we managed to find alternatives. It said that it closed at 4 so we thought that we would be asked to leave - but people were still coming in so we felt comfortable staying longer especially as we had a baby who needed feeding so we couldn’t rush out. We stopped in for lunch and had a great experience. As well as the more traditional breakfast fare, there were many other interesting options, particularly on the lunch menu. Dad loved the eggs benedict, hubby tucked into a hearty beans on toast but I delighted in the strawberry, avocado and halloumi salad. It was to die for, crisp fresh varied salad piled high with fresh avocado, juicy strawberries and two generous slices of grilled halloumi. Absoultely delicious. I had been struggling to decide between this one and the grilled pear walnut and goats cheese (next time for sure). There was also freshly baked quiche on offer as we arrived and really it was such a pity we tried this place on our last day as I could quite happily have worked my way through the menu. The lady that served us was lovely and friendly and god bless the chef as the kitchen must have been roasting last week and she was still baking away with a laugh and a smile. Dropped in for a breakfast and I must be honest it was not the best experience. I chose the Large breakfast at £8.50. A bit pricey as when I came to settle my bill, found that it didn’t include the tea and the bill was £10. The food mostly appeared re-fried and not the quality ingredients I would have expected at that price. The cafe was really cold and the waitress told me there was no heating in the room she did add that in the summer it was hot (choose wisely which season you visit) the waitress did say she would get a heater, unfortunately this did not appear during the hour I was there. Myself and other visitors sat in their coats for the whole period. The waitress was very pleasant and extremely courteous throughout. People around me chose the soup of the day and appeared to be enjoying it and the menu had lots of tasty sounding dishes. If I were to come again I would certainly not choose the expensive breakfast. I love independent cafes and restaurants but they really have to step up to the mark especially when an Italian restaurant just up the road was offering any pizza or pasta for £8.95 And Clevedon has many cafes. It doesn’t take much to be amongst the best, just enthusiasm and a real love for food. Sadly I felt this was missing at this establishment.

My family and I visited in August and requested very different things from a leek and stilton tartlet to a cheese sandwich. Nothing was a problem and all the food was both delicious and beautifully displayed on the plate. It disappeared very quickly!

We stayed in Clevedon in March whilst house hunting Saturday/Sunday morning family breakfast is a tradition for us. Our daughter recently moved to Clevedon, so we've decided to buy there as well. I was hopeful that the Butterfly Coffee Shop would become our new regular weekend breakfast place It's most likely not going to happen There were 3 young waitstaff: 2 young ladies and a young man, each late teens early 20's without a clue how to wait tables, organise drinks, take orders, or manage basic restaurant tasks 2 tables became so frustrated after waiting nearly an hour for tea and toast that they left. The 3rd table waited, but were extremely frustrated. No one had set duties, wrong orders were placed, food took forever to arrive, at 11:40 we were told breakfast was no longer available (our son in law joined us late after working nights) silverware was repeatedly forgotten. The male waiter wrote down "coffee with milk" exactly like this, he could not remember 1 large coffee 2 large cappuccinos, he had to long write it out. Then walked 10 feet behind the counter, and asked again what we ordered. No one cleaned tables, yet stood around looking unsure what to do It is unfortunate, because it's a lovely little coffee shop, with delicious menu options. Just disastrously managed and operated. Hopefully they either offer extreme training or hire new staff. 3 waiters should've easily handled 7 tables without stress or confusion Would try again, but only as last hunger resort

Popped in hoping for a quick bite to eat. No overly busy, but food coming out was a bit slow, but got the feeling the food was individually prepared. If you don't mind the quirkiness of the place then give it a try. The food was nice as were staff and the coffee. As we left the place started to fill, so this must be a sign of a well established eatery.

I visited on Saturday with a friend who is dairy-free by necessity. Having been there once before I knew it would be a good shout. I particularly like loose leaf tea, and try to find cafes which have this, but am also aware of gluten & dairy issues faced by friends. We were not disappointed. I had a Darjeeling, whilst Kate had a Green tea. I indulged with a bacon bap & a dark chocolate florentine, and Kate had a Vegan dark chocolate & coconut flapjack. There were at least 3 Vegan cakes to choose from & some wonderful sounding Vegan main courses on the blackboard. Well worth a visit.

You will get great homemade food and real (tea leaf) tea in this busy, friendly café. At busy times the order may take a while but it is worth it as it is all freshly prepared.Reasonably priced too.

A pleasant little café/coffee shop in the popular Hill Road area, we just popped in for a coffee and a cake, but the breakfast menu looked very tempting as did some of the more substantial lunch portions being dished up on the table next to us.The cakes were attractively displayed on the counter, and there were a number of sponges as well as flap jacks, caramel shortbread and so on. It was a shame that the Victoria Sponge had run out, so instead I opted for the Coffee & Walnut cake, and this was really very good indeed. A lovely soft and crumbly sponge, with a generous layer of coffee icing that had just the right amount of coffee flavour and sweetness. A latte too was pretty good, and unusually came with the choice of either one or two shots. All in all, a great little place and I will no doubt be back to check out some of the more substantial meals on offer.

Cafe opened later than advertised on the door, once inside it smelt of yesterdays fried food and member of staff was moaning about having to get up, clean the place and open up

Went in for a quick breakfast before getting on a route to Cornwall and ended up waiting for my food for a long time. If owner struggling with finding staff why never present at the cafe to keep things under control? Also working myself in the cafe, I don't think it's acceptable to make a customer wait for drinks that long. And cheese sandwich for a 5£?! Are you for real? Breakfast itself was ok, but served on smallest plate ever, so kept dropping my toast on the table. Please get bigger plates.

What a lovely find :-) I was in Clevedon on a day trip with my daughter and granddaughter on a very sunny Monday and after the morning on the beach and playing in the new splash pool we wandered the independent shops and we're getting rather hot! We walked passed Butterflies and my eye was caught on their gluten free sign. We went into investigate and saw they had a gluten and dairy free cake (for me) and ice creams for my daughter and granddaughter where we could sit in the cool and rest our weary hot bodies! Amazing to have on offer a gluten and dairy free cake and it was delicious, and such a treat as usually I have to have just a gluten free cake and put up with the effects of eating dairy :-( Lovely staff, lovely decor and a lovely tea room. We will be back for more!

It's really hard to find places to eat when you have coeliacs disease and I have had some unfortunate side effects from some places so when I found this coffee shop I was really please to see such an extensive gluten free menu. The gluten free meals ranged from salads to cooked meals meat based and vegetarian all at reasonable prices. I can recommend the homemade scotch egg. The owner told me the meat comes from a local butcher who sources locally. They serve loose leaf tea in large pots. The restuarant is homely and welcoming with very friendly and smiley staff. I will definitely return to this coffee shop to sample more of their delicious menu.

The slow service in this place lets it down. Good choice of food and drinks but service painfully slow. Took 20 mins to have order taken and then a further 20 mins to be told they'd ran out of what we ordered. It wasn't like they didn't have enough staff, but they just weren't focused on service. Been here 3 times and doesn't appear to be a one off.

I went here on a whim as I was looking for somewhere to have a cream tea. At first I wasn't convinced since the sign said cream teas £4. Surely this couldn't be right? Well it was. The scones were clearly homemade with clotted cream and jam. Tea was delicious - overall well worth a visit. Shame, I don't live closer! :-)

This is a delightful shop and a must for anyone visiting Clevedon. Everything about it seems to have been done with attention to detail (look at the light fittings!), the food was excellent and the staff very attentive. The atmosphere was friendly but not intrusive. Anyone wanting to work in retail should spend some time (and money!) in here to see how it should be done. We had coffee and toasted sandwiches and should have had cake as they looked great. Highly recommended

Often pop into Butterflies for tea and a cake when browsing along Hill Road. Staff always friendly attentive and friendly. Choice of cakes excellent. It is lovely to have a proper tea shop still doing what a tea shop should be doing - nice cakes and scones and a lovely pot do tea.

Not 5 stars simply because the prices were higher than advertised on the website, so that needs updating, and it was very cold in there. The staff were very friendly The food was good and served nice and hot Would we return? Yes we would

We have been here four times since it’s re vamp . The first time was a disaster and the manager refunded the whole meal asking us to try again . We had two very good meals but tonight was awful ! My steak had to go back three times and the third time it was cold ! The chicken special was not very special . The first was so overcooked it was inedible and the second was edible but not very tasty. The sautéed potatoes were new potatoes cut into quarters ! The attitude of the staff was very poor and although the steak was refunded it was not an experience I would want again so I don’t think we will be going back . And the gin had lost all its garnish for the last two times .
