Lovely grub! Lovely staff! Steak and kidney pudding was delicious, packed full of meat . Proper sliced ham, perfectly fried eggs and really good value for money. If ever we are back this way we will stop again for sure.

There's a large car park, a fair bit of outside seating, more inside seating. Lots of specials. Pie, chips, beans a tenner. Simple breakfast 7.50, fuller breakfasts up to a tenner. The simple one is very good value for money. It almost beat us to the table, the service is excellent. Friendly people, both staff and customers. They are offering good food as the main attraction here. It isn't fine dining, but it is very wholesome good food and very fairly priced. Honest place.

Treated two friends to breakfast at the Butchers Hook cafe in Heathfield. Have to say quite possibly my worst ever experience at this cafe. Out of 3 orders, 2 were wrong ,one with extras that weren`t ordered, but unfortunately were paid for.The other with only half of the items ordered actually served up. The reciept given was hard to read with multiple additions that didn`t make sense. Poor poor poor. Wouldn`t be so bad but it was very expensive . So one star from me, as over priced, poor service and okish food, as long as you are happy not getting what you order. Won`t be going back. Shame, as it used to be good.

Don’t know if this cafe has changed hands but the quality of the food and service has really gone downhill. We were looking forward to a steak and kidney pudding which in the past has been brilliant but when it came it hardly had any meat in it and it wasn’t even steak and kidney but mushroom! The pudding was dreadful and layed on our stomachs for the rest of the day. We were going to complain but had had enough. Definitely won’t be going back to visit this cafe anymore

Quirky cafe and farm shop offering an extensive menu and a bustling atmosphere. Food was great, and staff were warm and welcoming.

Visiting on business in the area so due to being punctual as always planned to visit for brekkers first. On the outskirts of the main town ,pulled up only then observing the arrow to car park at rear ,large and un adopted. Went to walk into the rear and was angrily gesticulated to go around. Not a good start. The café at 0815hrs was empty. Overcast Wednesday it felt very cold inside . Enquired if it were waitress service and for a menu. No and what you see , is what you get came the stern ,un interested retort gesticulating to about a hundred ingredients upon the wall . I placed my order ,paid and a knife and fork clattered onto the worn out counter . Have you a serviette I asked ? Tutting she gave me a thin something equivalent to one sheet of toilet paper . Then the coffee filled to the very brim as I touched it the surface tension broke resulting in a spillage .More tutting. I sat down and then became aware of how really cold it was .GREAT IF IT WAS 80 DEGREES OUTSIDE. A continuous chuntering , a huffing and a puffing , from an exhausted refrigerator was my ambiance accompanying to my meal . It arrived with no acknowledgment or if I wanted red sugar or brown sauce ect. It looked and tasted very good but toward the end it became cold like my coffee instantly. Perhaps a ploy to get you out as soon as possible ? Worn out tables and chairs left me some what deflated. Value for money and tasty but where were the locals ? May give them another chance if in the vicinity. The café is upon a fast main road so look upon my picture as a guide.

Been here about 3 times now and will continue to visit. Normally food is a 8/10 but today I’d say a 6/10. Eggs super oily and hash browns deep fried to death. Had better from Butcher’s Hook but like I said will continue to visit.

Foods good, typical sort of transport cafe feel and decor, no nonsense food. Wish I could say the same about the ordering and till system. Regularly have to wait 20 mins to place your order as they take ages trying to key your order into their Digital ordering system and it’s just painful to watch and wait! Also the card machine takes ages, they have to leave the till area and walk over to the router to try and get a signal. Often see 10-15 people waiting and there are loads of seats empty but everyone just queuing up trying to order. But as I said once ordered food comes out quite fast and is good.

Husband and I have visited Butchers Hook 4 times now. - 2 roast dinners, burgers and pies. The cafe offers good value for money and the food is great. They offer typical cafe food including breakfasts, but plenty of other choices too. We have also tried the sticky toffee pudding and found that good too. It can get quite busy but we have also found a table.

Searched breakfasts in Heathfield as we fancied a visit, and Butchers Hook came up. I'd heard of the Butchers hook Butchers and looked at the breakfast menu on Google and thought that it looked very good value breakfast, which included tea or coffee...result! On arriving, the menu in the carpark was taped over, with adjusted prices. Also, we realised there was no included tea or coffee. I understand the cost of living and the breakfasts are still great value. Just suggesting you look at adjusting menus on Google because we drove to Heathfield to visit the cafe due to the menu value. You do get a mighty, well cooked breakfast you cannot deny that. Tables were a bit tired, but if you want a hearty breakfast in an old school cafe environment, you can not go wrong The staff was very friendly and the cafe was extremely clean

Visited today for Mothers Day, amazing food at great value! Best roast I’ve had out in a long time and cheaper than all around! Very generous portions, meat high quality and tender and vegetables cooked to perfection. They were even happy to accommodate packaging our puddings for home as we were so full. Everyone left happy and we all said we will definitely be returning again, as there’s so much more of the menu we’d like to try! Thank you 😊

Arrived after 10:00am on a Sunday morning. It was already busy and just got busier while I was there. I opted for set breakfast four with a generous mug of tea. My breakfast consisted of : sausages x 2 , fried egg , bacon x 2 , sautéed potatoes , beans (choice was beans or tomatoes) and mushrooms. All this for just over £10.00. The food was delicious and service is always top notch. I have eaten there before and I have yet to have a bad experience at the Butchers Hook.

Having eaten here many times when the Old Owner had it and then the excellent butchers hook company came in and brought all their fantastic range, proper sausages "No Richmond here" and beautiful tasting CURED back bacon which for some reason they no longer use , which is a real SHAME as this MADE the breakfast stand out from others.... Don't get me wrong things have gone up! But quality should stay the same being we are paying more at the till now.

We visited the Boar's Head Inn at Crowborough today (19/6/24) for a Wake following the funeral of a dear friend. We were absolutely amazed at the wonderful spread that was provided. Both hot and cold food. Well presented and attentive service. Excellent! We have visited for lunch meals on a couple of past occasions and have always been impressed by the variety and quality of the food. Thankyou.

I’ve been to this place a few times now, when flying to and from Gatwick Airport. I’ve always been impressed by the staffs politeness and courtesy, going that extra mile. They are very dog friendly with treats at the bar, and water bowls provided. There has been a hansom, well behaved, and affectionate Australian kelpie dog there on a few of my visits. The rooms are reasonably priced have been consistently clean, tidy and comfortable during my stay. I would not hesitate to recommend The Plough Inn to any other traveller or patron.
