Went to the Butcher Arms today just for tea and cakes for 5 people. We ordered 4 POTS of tea and 1 coffee .after about 15 mins two pots of tea arrived with no lids on and not much water in them followed by tea cups we sat there waiting for the other pots of tea while we were waiting we poured one pot of tea into 2cups which was 2 half full cups so we looked for someone to ask for the other 2 pots, no staff available .so we had to knock on the kitchen door and were greeted by a hostile girl who just offered more hot water by this time the tea we had was cold,so we left without drinking the tea .as we left a woman ( I think she may have the manager) came out shouting vile abuse and swearing obscenity , Will we go again No ..worst service we’ve ever had

First visit but afraid last as well . Staff were accommodating but food left a lot to be desired for the prices charged. Some of the food was not hot. Asked to be warmed but they said they would make a new one so two of us had finished and had to wait for the new one to be finished.

Visited for Saturday lunch. Hubby had the all day brunch, I had fish pie. Lovely hot and plentiful. Staff were really pleasant and helpful. Reasonably priced for the portions. Lots of real ale on tap if you like beer. Not too busy, caters for 'old man's pub' as well as family dining. We shall be visiting again soon.

Really disappointing experience. We live near to the pub so after a long day at work for us all my husband and I decided to take our 18 year old son out to celebrate him passing his driving test, as we had done the same when our daughter passed her test. On arrival we found a table, sat down and my husband went to the bar to order drinks. As I have coeliac disease I am limited what I can drink so popped to the bar to see if they had any gluten free beers or Crabbies ginger beer, which they did. My husband’s pint was poured, he took a sip, my Crabbies was poured and they then requested my son provides ID. We explained that as our son had passed his test yesterday he did not have his driving licence with him as his provisional had been sent off by the examiner. The bar staff were quite rude / dismissive in their approach and we felt very uncomfortable. To cut a long story short we ended up paying for the 2 drinks and my son had to sit there watching us drink them. Our sons hour out at the pub with his mum and dad to celebrate his achievement was ruined. On my way out I gave feedback that in future it would be kinder to advise they weren’t willing to serve someone before other members of the family had been served their drinks. The staff ganged up advising that my son should have bought his passport with him and clearly had no sympathy for completely ruining what should have been a celebration as a family. We are not big pub goers so maybe we were naive to think our son would have needed a passport to enjoy a drink with his parents because he is under 25…… how times have changed! He was not with a gang of mates, he was with his mum and dad! Many of our friends and neighbours regularly drink in the Butchers Arms and their other pub in Barlaston so we will be sharing our experience with them too, as this sort of experience was not what we expected. When I calmly advised the bar staff we would not be returning and would let our friends know how we had been treated a female member of the team with bobbed curly black hair said good! What a lovely lot…. not! Cheers for nothing (apart from the 2 expensive drinks and uncomfortable atmosphere, oh and ruining a celebratory memory for our son).

We went to the Butchers on the 1/12/23 and been previously and never had a problem. we chose a table and ordered food , drinks were ordered and served , we then waited 20 minutes for the starter to come and this was fine, the problem was the main course , we ordered 2 sirloin steaks (Medium) , when they came 25 minutes later , the steaks were lukewarm at best, the peas tomato and Mushroom were cold. my steak was ok , the Wife's steak was tough , the only hot thing on the plate, was the Chips , but these were anemic and soggy. at no time were we asked if everything was ok !. another annoying thing was a family with 2 kids , the kids were Noisy beyond belief , but this was not the pubs fault . when we went to pay we were asked if everything was ok , i replied no below average on the Mains, my wife then mentioned the kids, the member of staff (female ,slim curly black hair) went to say we were being rude , we were nothing of the sort and she kept on and on, she then asked us if we wanted a discount , i replied no as the Wife replied yes , she then said we would not receive a discount due to our attitude, to which then she applied a 10 % discount why continuing her tirade. I asked to use less mouth and just let me pay i have known Mat the landlord for 20 years and would suggest some customer training before he loses a good business , with this persons attitude !!!!

Joules pubs are all pretty much all like this one, traditional, tiled or wooden floors etc. This is not one of the better ones. The seating is fairly uncomfortable, lots of stools and small backrest against the wall. The dining area has better seating but the tables are always sticky to touch. Probably not cleaned with a degreasing detergent. Drinks are not good value either. It's one of the only pubs I know that if you don't have ice in a soft drinks they serve you smaller measure. (This doesn't happen in other Joules pubs) You really wouldn't go out of your way to visit here.

Visited after leaving Bramshall 70 years ago. Lovely clean modernised village pub. Mostly wanted to praise staff they were helpful happy and chatted along about old times particularly the barmaid although the waitress too was very friendly.Service was prompt. Good pub food and well priced. Stop in and support them when you in the area. I will return hopefully not after another 70 years. If more pubs were friendly and kept prices down they could match The Butchers Arms.

Stopped off here after a day out in Alton Towers, with hopes of getting a good dinner to see us on outlet travels, however the menu was more Snacks than meals, so we ended up getting a shared platter of wedges, chicken gougons, garlic mushrooms, nachos, onion rings and garlic bread. The food itself was ok, not too much choice for vegetarians from what I could see. But would have been better if they had more meal based foods rather than snacks, only the specials seem to be more substantial, but you are limited on choice by what day you are there. To drink I had the Joules stone ale, it had notes of elderflower throughout which I must admit I did enjoy. The bar is also dog friendly, but that seems to be the case with most places in England.

Handed the menus to us and took our drinks order, we had plenty of time to review the menu which had some lovely offerings. Chose 3 starters from the 3 for £12 range and were more than satisfied with the offerings. Main meals could not be faulted and was very nice. So many options we will definitely return. Arrived at the restaurant and found that they did not have our booking which was booked on the 8th Jan, its was no problem as they could accommodate us, which was lovely. The girl that served us was very polite and friendly. We looked at the lovely menu and decided on what we would like. It all went down hill as soon as we received the food .The starter was Creamy Garlic mushrooms on Bloomer ( Arrived on 2 slices of brown bread and few mushrooms not sauce......! we all left the starts and when the lad came to take it away he did not even ask if everything was ok as he could see that we had all left it..... The main course arrived and we had sweet potato fries and when they arrived they were black and burnt, I'd made comment to the lad that there are burnt, he just look at me and place the food down and walked off.... I was not happy and decided to go to the lad behind the bar and inform him that I we are not happy and to take the meal but and change them and to be truthful the chef should not have sent the food out like that. The table behind us was also moaning and said that they would probably have better food in prison.... which is not at all good...I'm not one to complaint but the food was absolutely shocking and feel that this needs to be looked at as the place is lovely.

Very very disappointed with this pub, firstly they would not let our party of 8 ( made up of 2 households) sit on one table, the manager proclaimed the reason was that the tables were screwed to the floor and only 6 people are allowed to sit together. So we obeyed the rules and sat at 2 tables, it came as a great surprise that the tables were not screwed to the floor and it tipped back crushing my mother's leg. The staff did not help her up or ask her if she was ok, they did not offer an apology or offer to replace the drinks that ended up landing all over my mother. After my mother's injury she decided that her leg was hurting to much to carry on with the meal and asked if they could cancel the main meal and get a refund. The manager totted up a refund but did not refund the starter's, he said in a rude manner "you've eaten the starters so you will pay for the starters!".Utterly disgusted at the lack of human empathy from the managers after their seating area had caused such a painful injury, not even a sorry from the management for being responsible for hurting my mother. Its such a shame because the food is actually nice here but the management and customer service is terrible and the wait times are way too long.

I asked for some more plain bread as had already spread disgusting stuff on other piece and couldn't eat it. We had mushroom soup which was nothing special and had the fish and chips to follow which was frozen fish. Everything was very tasty and no complaints at all from our table of 9. Dishes were cleared quickly. There were a lot of people around the bar so it was sometimes difficult to look to see what was on offer on the ale side. We all had a good night and will certainly be returning.

Starting on a positive the drink was good and the fire was lovely in the snug. Unfortunately that's where the positives finish. We had the two course meal can't remember exact price but it appeared good value. Started turned up, frozen mushrooms were clearly not cooked and frozen/cold in the middle. That was bad enough, the main them turned up and that wasn't cooked neither. I raised this with the bar staff when paying and didn't seem interested just said will tell chef! Sorry to be blunt but not sure would call him/her that. Sorry to say used to love the food won't be back.

Popped in here for lunch with my mum a few weeks ago,not been in for a while but remembered it was lovely, roaring fire, good food...well where to start, freezing cold, ordered food, my pie was microwaved, I don't mean cooked then reheated I mean microwaved... Imagine it...yes not good. I left the pastry, ate the chips, my mum's cottage pie was ok but we took our apple pies to go as I didn't trust them to reheat them...yes they were frozen to. Wish I'd mentioned it at the time but my mum didn't want to upset any one. Won't be back, get a chef who knows how to switch an oven on and staff who really should be ashamed to serve that food.

Visited for a work lunch. Place was very quiet but food took along time. Ordered beef and Stilton sauce sandwich. Was just on sliced bread, expected a bit more. Good home cooked chips though. Hot meals were a 2 course, if you just wanted 1 course youy still had to pay for 2 courses, therfor mini fish and chips was £8 as a starter or desert was not needed. Not impressed with that.

Popped in for lunch last week to try out the new meal deal that has been advertised. We waited by the bar for quite some time before a short dark haired lady came from out the kitchen. She didn't seem bothered that we had be waiting. Food was standard which you would expect with the price and the pub had a nice relaxed atmosphere. We were left at our table with dirty plates and never offered desserts. When we eventually decided to just get up and pay the bill the lady was rude and unattentful. Being the only member of staff on shifts you would think she would wake up to the customers around her. Would go back and try the food again but not so good this time.

The beer from Joules is the attraction but the food is pretty good too... The cheese and potato pie is a good vegetarian option, but could do with a companion the burger I had wasn't cheap but was well presented and tasty enough that I forgave it. Staff are cheerful and friendly and you have the option of the dining area or eating in the general bar. At the isk of offending both establishments it's a great place to wait whilst the Roshni prepares your takeway! The map seems to think the pub is in Leek not Forsbrook by the way....

Called in here for tea on our way home from Alton Towers. We were made to feel really welcome and the service was 1st class. Food was really good, tasty pub grub and reasonably priced. The pub was busy with people eating and drinking and there was a nice atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Found this place on the off-chance when our usual watering hole in this direction was closed for food. A fortunate find as the food, though nothing out of the ordinary is of high quality, beautifully cooked and very nicely presented.Prices not cheap, but moderate and the staff during our visit exceptionally pleasant and helpful.Someone's doing something right here and we will most certainly call again.

Lovely meal in a pub we love but had never eaten in , We have watched the food being brought out for weeks now and decided to try for ourselves . Can honestly say one of the nicest pub/resteraunt meals we have had . Beautiful succulent gammon steak on the mixed grill and also a large and very tasty fish pie . Would recommend to anyone

Having had a hard Saturday being up at 5.00 am & driving 100's of wasted miles we finally returned back home around 8.30pm not really knowing where to eat we gave the butchers arms a try. As owners of a local food establishment we are always very aware of food quality & service we also try to be objective. The service was spot on as was the food quality excellent. It was as good as any pub/resturant food that we have ever sampled any body who is not satisfied with this pub as an eatery is probably looking for something which does not exist

We used to visit regularly, this is the first visit since the New Owners.Whilst the food was ok the prices have rocketed. There aren't enough choices and the cheaper menu has completely disappeared. If they don't cater for the grey market ie lower prices and smaller meals they wont survive imho...it's a real shame

Whilest lost in the local area, hungry and looking for somewhere to eat, we drove past this pub. It looked ok from the outside so we thought we would chance it. I'm SO pleased we did. The food was great and the prices were very good. Portion sizes where very generous, so much so i wasnt able to enjoy pudding- almost unheard of for me :-)

This is fast becoming one of our favourite go to locations to eat, mainly because it never fails to please. Service is always excellent and personal - our children in particular enjoy being spoken to appropriately and not in a patronising manner, as some other places do.As usual, portions were large and tasty, whilst desserts were nicely presented and of sufficient size to feel you haven't been cheated! One of my favourites.

Visited here for the second time today, I am veggie and they don't have lots of veggie options but there are a few, there is a veggie chilli (which I had both times) a veg lasagne and a burger. The food is well presented and plentiful, served hot and its very tasty,The staff are welcoming and they have offers on certain meals during the week, although the wine is slightly expensive.Overall I would highly recommend this lovely country pub.

Called really for a pint and to see the new changes. Had eaten a few times before it was changed, and had heard good things. Personally I don't like how the set up puts drinkers with diners,I think both should totally separate. Can't comment on food, haven't tried it yet,not sure if I will now either.

My friend and I enjoyed a leisurely lunch here on a rainy afternoon. It was helped along by the comfortable surroundings, friendly service and delicious food. We both had faggots in a rich gravy, with chips and mushy peas and a hot drink. The menu is full of pub classics with plenty to choose from, so we will definitely be back. There are plenty of tables in the bar area, but you may need to book for a restaurant table if you want to dine on a weekend evening.

As my wife has been following a diet, she asked to exchange the chips, with her main course, to rice. We were told that they didn't have any at the moment and was offered new potatoes instead. She agreed requesting them without butter but they unfortunately arrived swimming in butter. 5 minutes later the table adjacent to us were served a dish with rice on it. On asking for the bill we remarked to the waitress about the rice to which she said, "I didn't know they were going to cook some more off". She then said our meals would have been 5 minutes later if we'd waited for the rice but we would have happily waited had we been asked. We were offered a dessert for free as a way of apology but from then on that waitress blanked us, completely. Even on our exit, having bid goodbye to all the front of house staff, she never acknowledged we were there. Shame because the food really was quite good!!!!

Have been to this pub/restaurant many times in the past and the flood was always excellent with many firm favourites on the menu. However it has changed hands and with that has come a severe decline in quality, in my opinion. The food on my recent and final visit was appallingly served up and appalling in flavour and quality. We were a party of 4 and every dish was a dreadful embarrassment. I will not go into detail but suffice it to say that there was nothing remotely appetising served up. Many of the staple favourites had disappeared from the menu and it seemed like a policy of buying cheap catering produce had been introduced. I have discussed this with many former regulars and found, unanimously, that they had all stopped going there having had a similar experience to mine

We chose to stop whilst passing for lunch. The staff were welcoming and friendly. It was not busy at the time so plenty of places to sit. The menu had a good selection of food from light snacks to full meals and reasonably priced. We ordered mains and a drink and these were served fairly quickly and were well presented. The food was well cooked and flavoursome. Both of us left little on the plate and my wife decided to have a pudding. The first 2 items were no available but there was still a good choice, albeit small. In the end we shared one and I enjoyed it too, so much I could have eaten one all to my self! The interior is mainly wood and lacks a little warmth, That said it was summer and there appeared to be a fireplace that no doubt is used in colder months, which would make the place feel homely.I would try it again and could recommend it.
