Burnt Stump in Gedling

We go regularly brilliant food brilliant service .beautiful surroundings .the manager Gemma is so caring kind .& very professional .her staff are very pleasant they havnt faulted us yet .I highly recommend the burnstump .

Called into the Burnt Stump today (Sunday 20th April) for drinks after visiting Papplewick Pumping Station with my Wife and Grandchild, something we always look forward to doing when we've visited the area before and there's never been any problems previously. First of all there is now the car parking issue, noted by others (to their cost) where you have to register your car, or receive a fine........That's going to bring in the punters in isn't it? After registering my car number plate, I went to the bar, which was only moderately busy. There was a Gentleman ordering a meal and drinks, being served by the Barmaid, then a another Fella' behind him, then me. Elsewhere at the bar were a couple of Women talking, with at least one dog with them. They had already been served and at the far end was another person being served by a young Man, who was dealing with Coffees or Hot Chocolates. The first Gentleman was served and then the Fella' next to me, who was just ordering drinks was next to be served by the Barmaid. As part of his order, he ordered a pint of Old Mout Berries and Cherries Cider. He took a couple of drinks and then said he would be back for the Cider, which was being poured under the bar. Then it was my turn to be served. Also a pint of Old Mout Cherries and Berries Cider, a J2O and a Blackcurrant and Soda. Meanwhile the two Women with the dog, had left the bar area and were replaced by another Lady who pointed out that the Women's dog had peed all over the floor. Obviously this wasn't the Pub's staff fault, but a member of the staff had to be informed to bring a bucket and mop, which would have distracted the bar staff somewhat. I was served with the Cider by the Barmaid, which was placed DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF ME and NOT to the side where the Fella' had just left and was to return. I naturally assumed then, that this was MY drink and his was ready and poured under the bar. As it was a tall, thin glass filled to the top, I drunk the top off to make it easier to carry. The Fella then returned to ask where his drink was and the Barmaid looked at me. I said well it must be this one then, but it was given directly to me and I would give it to him but I'd already supped a bit. The Barmaid curtly said 'It wasn't placed in front of you!!", I said it was. She insisted "No it wasn't, it was placed there!!!", pointing about four feet away from me where the Fella' had been stood originally. Why would I reach across the bar to steal a drink that I would have known damn well belonged to someone else that was coming back to fetch it???!!! Brawls have been known to break out in bars for much lesser accusations. Luckily the Fella' was easy going, although I could tell he believed the Barmaid over me. I should have just walked out at that point, as after asking me again what the final of the three drinks I ordered was (not so sure of herself after all then), I was then charged £6.50 for the Old Mout Cider alone. I won't be making that mistake in a Marston's pub again! Should any staff care to watch the CCTV back to see where the drink was placed, please check on today's footage, Sunday April 20th, at a time between 12.30pm and 1.15pm in the Afternoon (I paid in cash, so can't check the exact time), for me in a dark blue jumper and jeans, at the middle corner of the L-shaped bar, with a Fella' in a baseball cap next to me that came and went and then came back and you will see that your member of staff was very wrong and insulting to a member of the public, who will be thinking twice about going back to the pub any time in the near future!

My wife and I had a drink outside in the sitting area, we were discussed by the filthy condition of the area , which was very dirty with earth and weeds growing on top of the paved surface plus the disgusting condition of the tables and seating. Their prices are astronomical! One pint of beer and a small glass of white wine £13.50!! The wine was flat and warm, on bringing this to the attention of the bar staff we were told that we had only ordered the cheapest wine and that was how it was! My advice , don’t go there! Avoid this place like the plague!!

We gave this place a try on our way back from an afternoon out, and with its woodland setting, looked ideal for a quick fix for tea. Entered pub to bar staff that weren't interested in any kind of welcome, hey ho, found a table after passing a couple that weren't clear or clean, with some heavily stained chairs. NOT a great first impression. Ordered with different member of staff at the bar who was courteous & efficient. Opted for burgers, they came, they were OK. At no point during any interaction with staff did they mention car parking charges or registering our vehicle. Shocked a couple of weeks later as we received a parking fine of £100 (£60 if paid quickly) from this establishment for not registering our car on arrival, had the bar staff warned us, we would definitely registered, but when you park up with the intention of supporting a local business by spending over £50 you don't expect a penalty for your custom, no appeals or proof of purchase to waiver the fee, shocking treatment of customers, staff should warn you just incase you're not aware or don't see the signs, as we didn't ! Plenty of better eateries in the area that don't charge extra for parking so will definitely NOT be back.

Terrible service . We waited nearly an hour for food to then be told certain items they had ran out ! The food was rubbish when it finally arrived .

Christmas day dinner. It's a lovely location but when we walked in there was no staff station to meet us to wait at for our table we just wandered around until we found a staff member to speak to. Our table wasn't ready, the bar was far too busy to order a drink or wait at so we just stood waiting for our table to be ready. The staff worked really hard but to be honest they weren't invested in our experience. The wait between courses was unbelievably long and a lot of customers were getting impatient. The food when arrived was delicious and we did enjoy ourselves but the service and ambience let it down. Put table cloths on the tables, get your staff to dress properly ( one man served guests with a baseball cap on wrong way round, one waitress had a skirt so short my husband blushed!) and look after your guests properly.

Booked a Santa visit confirmed by text I assume all is good . They tell when I ring to query something else that booking is cancelled ( oil check email once a day ) they sent me an email to concel why not text me like it confirmed booking ? Why does system take booking it they don’t have capacity to take it ?

Visited today for Santa Paws, never been to anything like this before. The staff at The Burnt stump were absolutely fantastic, very well organised and my dog loved the breakfast. Lovely setting with Santa and stalls outside. Hope it can be done next year Thanks everyone 👍

Lovely young lady with glasses behind the bar simply went above and beyond for our visit, working out which deal would work out cheaper for me and my partner even if it was only £2. Food was absolutely above normal ‘pub grub’ and amazing value for money.

This year's Halloween Party was excellent. All of the children had so much fun. Pumpkin carving, games, hot buffet. Brilliant value for money, friendly staff and great food.

Unfortunately not a good experience with the Hamburger meat over cooked and in parts burnt with warm turning to hard chips. The tuna melt baguette was also uninspiring with the chips also warm and hard.

9 of us dined here and it was excellent - speedy service, delicious food, and a surprise cake for my mum's birthday. Our waitress Jo was lovely. We can't fault it and will be back.

Definitely one of the more classier Marstons pubs in Nottingham, due to its stunning surroundings, nice outdoor area, nice building out and inside, it's dog friendly too, has a nice large kids play area too and the service is pretty decent and fast!
