Burford House Restaurant in West Oxfordshire

Stopped for lunch during a visit to Burford and had the baked camembert sharer with some sides. Very friendly service and quality food. Would definitely return.

Room was stunning, probably the nicest from our whole trip through the Cotswolds. Dinner was very good here and breakfast was ok. Great little shopping town. The one fault I would pick would be, for those who don't know - everything finishes up quite early, with dinner and drinks wrapped up just after 9pm. This was common through all the small villages we stayed in through the Cotswolds, so I'm in no way blaming the hotel. Just wanted to point it out for those thinking about doing as we did and doing a round trip - you'll be in bed by a very sensible 10pm every night !

Was very disappointed to stay here. The pictures were very different to reality. The room we stayed in was very tired. The toilet was horrible and the shower didn’t work throughout the whole stay. The bathroom had linoleum on the floor that was coming up and the blinds were caked in dirt. I tried to have a bath as the shower didn’t work and everything is rusty and the bath made a loud gurgling sound. The branding outside of the hotel made it look like a sports bar which is a shame as the building itself is lovely. I think it could do with a complete renovation. Even our door in the bedroom was broken and the walls had cracks in them. Oh and we found a big pair of white knickers in the wardrobe….

We only ate at their restaurant, the food was McDonald's standard and service was slow. The bill was triple for the quality and service we got.

popped in with ten minutes to spare for a bloomer wow and what a bloomer it was amazing bread and ingredients but what i loved the most is to listen to mostly local people meet and have a catch up. this place had all that in abundance. I have been very taken by this village and will go again

Delicious food, lovely atmosphere, superb, accommodating and friendly service

The deluxe room was shabby with fittings falling off the walls. The shower was more like a fountain with it squirting in all directions from the valve with the whole unit virtually falling off the wall. The fittings and decor were cheap and tacky. Maintenance was non existent as doors were broken and one fire door even hanging off their hinges. I cut my arm on a screw protruding from the room door sign. Unable to shut some windows and latch missing from one side, curtains, windows and blinds poor quality and dirty. What looked like blood on a shelf in wardrobe. No drawer space at all. Chair covers stained along with the carpets. Mattress under the bed. Couldn’t sleep from noise in hotel bar and glass bottles being emptied into bins right outside our room. Reception area looked like a dumping ground. Dogs sat on chairs in the bar area. Complete overhaul needed as definitely not the five star hotel it was advertised as being. Never stay here again

Our lunch experience at Burford House on Saturday 30th March ranks as possibly our worst ever experience at any restaurant. Total incompetence, staff who showed nothing but disdain for their customers and food that was less than mediocre. We waited an hour and a half for a burger and some fish and chips. Hardly a sophisticated meal and not something any kitchen should take that long to prepare. The staff couldn’t have been any less interested in their customers. This is clearly somewhere that relies on passing tourist trade as if I were local to the area I cannot imagine ever going there twice. Be warned visitors to Burford. Avoid this place.

Disappointed! We ordered the sandwich on bloomer loaf and fries. We expected it to be really good for almost £11! Really disappointed that on arrival, our sandwich was indeed made from just brown supermarket sliced bread! No one came to check that our food was ok. I spoke to the member of staff who cleared our plates and explained our sandwich was not on bloomer bread as advertised o the menu! He went away and returned stating that the kitchen staff said that it was bloomer bread! Absolutely not! I would suggest you don’t lie to your customers! Needless to say we will not be returning! I am sure restaurants should only be serving food that is advertised on their menu! This was definitely false advertising! If you run out of what is advertised, let your customer know so they have the option to change their mind! So many other lovely restaurants to choose in Burford,

A very nice lunch on Tuesday 26 March 2024 and plenty of room for our two dogs. I had the bacon, brie and cranberry bloomer with fries and my wife had chicken and sweet chilli sauce bloomer with fries and both were delicious. Efficient service and pleasant staff.

Stopped in for Sunday lunch, was not disappointed, staff friendly, food amazing, would highly recommend.

Came to this establishment on Monday during Cheltenham race week. Haven’t been here before but with so many pubs shut we chose the burford house hotel The menu is very pub menu which is great I had southern fried chicken sand which which is so tasty and tender and my partner had bacon Brie and cranberry which also was really nice. Service is very friendly and efficient will be coming back soon.

Ok, so this is a tiny hotel so it's never going to warrant lots of stars, the bar area is nice, but you have to go for breakfast at its sister hotel two doors down, and the rooms are a little tired, and would benefit from a makeover. My bed was not comfortable although it looked impressive. The town is lovely although busy with traffic. The Breakfast was very nice full English although they gave it another name.

Absolutely stunning food and service. The pizza, kebabs and starters were fabulous! Not greasy or poor quality but very tasteful and decent portions too.

Room was dirty, shower mouldy and rusty. Bathroom door did not close and neither did bedroom door. Moved rooms as no-one really interested in coming out to fix the lock. New room bigger but just as grubby. The window frames were completely rotten and one window did not close, glass also broken The door looked as if it had been kicked in. No toiletries or toilet roll provided and glasses and spoons were greasey. The toilet did not have a sink in to wash hands. There were cobwebs handing from the ceiling and an old mattress under the bed. £165 a night for 5 star accommodation- lesson learned when asked to pay for the room as soon as you walk through the door - check the quality of the room before you hand over the cash.

We visited Burford House on a Friday night recently, friendly service as we walked in and the online menu looked promising. On arrival we noticed the online menu hadn’t been updated and the choices that were in front of us not as exciting as we would have liked. The food when it came out was nothing like the pictures, and very average. The lighting was bright and the room wasn’t cosy. The place could do with a massive clean, and to top it off there was a big long hair with the starters. To say the least we didn’t even want our mains to come but the service went from friendly to start to awkward and uninviting. I think the chef must have walked out recently because the food was not to a restaurant or pub standard. Yet another place in Burford that needs so much doing to it to be decent.

The staff where lovely, beer was great and the place is beautiful, definitely would recommend 👍👍👍

The most amazing food, literally in the top three places I've ever been to. We had lunch and the lamb kofta just dissolved and the arancini were so light. Combined with a nice choice of beers and reasonable prices this made a nice change to the sometimes extortionate and pretentious Cotswolds.

Visiting a friend who recently moved to Burford. Ejoyed the BH one day for a drink & the next for dinner. Lovely atmosphere & great service. Drinks & food very enjoyable. Look forward to future trips to Burford & visits to the BH.

I assumed the price for the room had risen as it was a bank Holiday weekend but I have looked at a few weekends over the year and the price seems to be the same. For the price, the room isn't worth it at all. The bathroom was very worn with the taps being broken and plaster falling on in the shower area. I felt dirtier coming out of the shower than when I went in. The glasses in the room were dirty. I guess you are paying for the location of the guest house but the rooms could do with some tlc.

What a great menu, plenty of choice and reasonably priced unlike most other restaurants in Burford which to us are totally overpriced for what they provide with bland menus serving yet again fish and chips and burgers and not much else. In our opinion this is the best restaurant in Burford by far with a very tasty Italian menu.

A really tired hotel for £525 for a 3 night stay. Out of date pictures, an array of Toby jugs and generally a poor atmosphere. Breakfast was OK but customers had to request a croissant (which wasn’t available on Thursday morning) , pastries or fresh fruit except for the morning we left for some reason. Egg on toast OK but for some reason toast not buttered. Our bedroom had a smell on opening the door on every occasion so some kind of ‘incident’ that was never attended to properly. A four poster bed was a pleasant surprise on arrival but was uncomfortable. The bathroom was well equipped but also very tired. The shower tiling and ceiling were in a dreadful state and need cleaning or replacing and or decorating. Would not go back or recommend to family or friends.

Nice Location good atmosphere but food is not good, if you pay £8.50 for Gazpacho Soup you expect from fresh tomatoes not from tomato paste. Also other food we ordered tasteless.

It's nothing about Italian restaurant 😖 . Soop Gazpacho for £8.50 taste like tomato pasta from supermarket and its summer season should be fresh. Food is not good at all 👎

The service was very efficient, friendly polite staff, lovely surroundings. Amazing Sunday set menu, 2 courses, I had the breaded garlic mushrooms, with Parmesan and rocket, large portion, delicious and the perfectly cooked roast beef, roast spuds, selection of veg, cauliflower cheese, delish gravy, horseradish sauce, a very filling tasty meal!

Absolutely lovely food - couldn’t fault it. Amazing service and a lovely atmosphere. The courtyard is a beautiful addition and I definitely recommend.

Excellent food really enjoyed our visit, well worth a visit. Change to the other hotel restaurants in Burford were they are serving standard pub food. A must if stopping in Burford.

The staff at this hotel were absolutely charming, helpful, and kind. Dinner/breakfast was cooked beautifully. However, my partner and I felt that for the price, it is very dated, over priced and needs a lot of TLC and updated facilities. Blinds in the bathroom were tatty and falling apart, the bathroom itself was very outdated as was the bedroom curtains and carpets. Plaster was falling off the ceiling in the hall and water stains looked awful... they should update or reduce the cost.

Had a two day stay at this hotel...it was clean and the staff could not do enough for you..on arrival helped with bags as we were on the top floor .... Breakfast was excellent buffet which included cereals, fruit etc...also the cooked breakfast was good and any combination... Would definitely go back....

Had a fantastic day at a friend's wedding, food was lovely and staff couldn't do enough.

Lovely hotel but location is a double edged sword. Great position for the town but very noisy if room on the road side, as ours was. Restaurant and bar closed. It's rated as a 5 star hotel which this definitely isn't. Toilet broke do had to use one on the ground floor which isn't great in the night. Wouldn't stay again.

Had dinner at the Italian restaurant of the Burford House hotel. Stunning food and excellent service from the staff - highly recommend it. The Nutella-filled gnocchi (dessert) with orange sauce was special.

Hotelier was friendly & helpful, giving suggestions of places to visit & best parking spots. Rooms were exceptionally clean. Breakfast was excellent. One of our party is vegan and the hotelier went out of his way to find almond milk so he could have cereal. I wouldn't recommend the Chinese meal as the selection was small and £7.50 for a plate of grated potatoes seemed excessive. When we got back at 9.30pm the door was locked & we had to ring the bell to get access at the side door. It would have been helpful to be told that the hotel would be locked this early before we left. Having said that, I would heartily recommend this hotel for a short break to explore the Cotswalds.

Could not recommend this place more. The room was amazing and worth every penny. The staff are what makes this place. We received a warm welcome, the lady at breakfast was lovely and the bar staff are amazing. They accommodated every request and made some fab local recommendations. We will definitely be back!

Dropped by for a quick lunch,without booking , and were greeted warmly and covid safely and enjoyed a delightful and very sensibly priced tapas selection of dishes washed down with a local pale ale. Superb and thanks.

We came here as a group of three for breakfast. Nice and clean. Breakfast was delicious. Can recommend the French toast/Full English/pancakes, and the capuccino. Friendly waitress, food was very tasty and hot, very pleasant breakfast dining experience and would definitely come again!

Great location but room expensive for what it was, supposed to be a deluxe double, was a good size but very tired. Wood in window frames was rotten away in places and this made it drafty as was windy day. Black mould on ceiling over shower, bathroom grout on floor tiles dirty and missing in places, toilet seat was wooden and blown from water ingress, not very hygienic. Wasn't cheap room so was rather disappointed. Its an old building and very quirky but this is no excuse for letting room get so run down. Breakfast was really nice though on the plus side!

My wife and I had a 2 night weekend away over the bank holiday weekend. Burford House was a wonderful treat for us. The room was lovely and everything was tastefully and appropriately appointed. Besides the TV, not gadgets etc to distract you. (One thing missing was some tissues that would have been nice...) The breakfast offering is simple but delicious. Service was always excellent. They were all kind and super helpful. This trip exceeded our expectations and we would strongly recommend Burford House to anyone looking for a place to stay in the Cotswolds.

Excelente menú para el almuerzo con mucha variedad. Servicio super eficiente ya un precio razonable a pesar de estar en la calle principal de la ciudad. Buen ambiente y lo que parecía un precioso jardín en la parte de atrás. ¡Definitivamente volveremos con suerte cuando salga el sol!

Acabamos de entrar para un almuerzo ligero tarde sin expectativas, pero la comida era de primera clase. Pedimos 2 ensaladas y estaban muy bien presentadas y muy sabrosas. Preciosa zona de asientos en el patio si prefiere estar al aire libre en Covid. Entra sin dudarlo.

No solo se dieron sándwiches de carne como parte del té de la tarde, sino que el personal me dijo que los sándwiches eran veganos, ¡a pesar de que claramente contenían huevo y salmón! ! !Cuando llamamos para quejarme, ¡me hablaron muy mal y con condescendencia! ¡NO vayas a este lugar! ! !

A los veganos les sirvieron sándwiches de carne y pescado y me cansé de decirles que no era carne. . .No devolvió nada y dejó a mi mamá sintiéndose muy pequeña y tonta. . . .Manager es un imbécil smarmy.Ahora estamos en el proceso de lograr que grupos veganos respalden esto en un intento por arruinarlos. . .Mira este espacio. . . .

Excellent service very helpful staff we will return

We arrived for a pre- booked afternoon tea and were requested to find a table in an adjoining room. The waitress arrived and asked weather we would like tea or coffee. When I asked what sort of tea was available she explained as she was new she didn’t know but would find out. We were not asked if we had any dietary requirements, my wife is vegetarian. When are tea arrived my wife could only eat the egg sandwiches, which were made of large slices of boiled eggs covered in some sort of sauce not sure what it was. The remaining sandwiches, cream cheese and smoked salmon and supermarket type pre-packed chicken and spinach all served on thick sliced bread, more suitable for toast. The cakes and pastries were definitely not home made a small dry bake well tart cut into quarters, 4 very small cubes of lemon cake of supermarket standard and ginger cake with butter icing. The scone were warm and looked delicious but alas so dry it was impossible to spread the clotted cream on them. Ah the clotted cream this was so hard and resembled butter, we did wonder if in fact it was butter but don’t think so. There are a number of excellent tea shops and cafes in Burford we certainly will not return to this one our advise is cross the road.

what can I say ? well if you want the original stay in a very old hotel with oak beams,And very nice people to look after you , With very nice bathrooms, And a very special breakfast with all the trimmings this is the place we stayed on the 23 december we shall return, Burford is full of atmosphere
