We often go to Burford House Garden Centre as the plants are good quality and my husband likes looking around the garden. In recent years under the current owners the place has picked up but a lot more needs to be done I feel. I went in the cafe for a mid morning coffee as we normally do and found a table, which like most of the others needed a good wipe. I watched as one table was cleared but did not get a wipe, and most of the other tables still needed clearing when we left some time later. I went to ask a lady who looked like a manager, for serviettes as the dispenser was out, and she directed me to another condiments area, that dispenser was also out, in fact of 4 serviette dispensers in the cafe only one had serviettes in it! And members of the paying public were wandering around like I was looking for serviettes! The teapot I had my tea in was badly tarnished and looked dirty and I think the whole cafe could do with a good clean to be honest. Come on Burford House your customers deserve better than this!

Went for lunch. Have been before and I don't think they have ever changed the menu. The set menu is really very limited and needs some occasional changes. The jacket potatoes we had were shall we say well done! For some reason we were placed at a table that had a fake plant overhanging one side meaning one person basically had this on their head the whole time. Very sticky tables that we did see staff clearing but not cleaning.

Don't bother. £10.95 for a pork bap with 2 slices of microwaved pork and side salad. Advertised as with crisps but non given. By the time my Husband realized we couldn't be bothered asking for them. Flat White coffee was awful, very bitter. We're local and used to visit a lot but we won't be back.

Once again gave it another chance to impress - but once again they failed. Classic Car event - planned annually there but the failing to plan was planning to fail. Horrendous lengthy wait even just for drinks (are they understaffed?) - very poor choice of food due to 'out of stock' !!!!! If you're planning to go to this marvellous garden centre and gardens - take your own flask and sandwiches!!!!

It said open usual hours on the facebook post, so we went for a coffee and cake at 3.30 thinking there was plenty of time before they closed at 4.30. We got there and the sign inside the cafe said closed. At least the sign could have been outside. The waitress cleaning tables and walking past us could have said they were closed but she walked past with her head down. The 8 people in front of us couldn’t believe it, on a bank holiday sunday in the sun and the cafe was already closed, it didn’t surprise me, the last few times I’ve been the cafe has been consistently poor, running out of bread before 1 on a bank holiday saturday, running out of ingredients, taking 1 order and disappearing out the back for 2 minutes before taking the next. There is usually a queue. Which shows people want to visit but it’s such poor service they will stop coming. Turning at least 10 away today that we saw, it doesn’t make sense, so many business struggling, you should be glad of the opportunity to do well. Thank goodness for Starbucks!

After a browse around the garden centre on Sunday, we sat at a table in cafe at 3.30pm and were told they had closed. When we questioned the opening times on the entrance & website (stating they were open till 4.30pm) we were told they need an hour to clear up! I looked at the clock as it was barely seconds past 3.30pm but i was told ‘NO’. As we left, another member of staff followed out us to explain again in an abrupt tone saying that although the notice showed a 4.30pm closing time, they needed an hour to clear up. A simple sign on the door would have avoided the confusion. Also a lesson in good manners and courtesy to customers would be beneficial.

Gardens are glorious, fee and worth a visit. Garden centre well stocked however the cafe is very disappointing. My experience whilst waiting to place an order was distressing to say the least and I walked out and spent my money elsewhere. After being ignored for several minutes I caught a waitress attention and said I was waiting to place an order. Her response was to say that they were very busy and not in a nice way, her manner was terse and unapologetic. After being ignored for a further few minutes I walked out. I have used the cafe several times over the years which is good for a cuppa and a snack but expensive for what it is. I did send an email to the company’s head office via the contact form on the website but no response.needless to say I will not use again. Poor staff and no customer service response.

We returned to our favourite restaurant after lockdown to find it had been completely refurbished from top to bottom to a very high standard with new furniture including the outside eating area and parking for disabled near the entrance. Although viral prevention measures were in place they were well managed and not to intrusive. The service was very efficient served by friendly and pleasant staff so there is no change there. A full menu is on offer and the meal I ordered was well presented and tasty and as far as I can judge there has been no increase in prices post lockdown. We have been using the Cafe at Burford House every week for two years or more. One of our favourite watering holes for coffee and toasted Tea Cakes. What a disappointment when we called in last Sunday for our usual snack. The large chunky, full of fruit and tastyTea Cakes had been replaced with postage stamp size lumps of dough with very little fruit or taste, the toasting was much to be desired, still off white on the inside. In our opinion these new Tea Cakes do not toast well, are light on fruit, tasteless and so small they are not value for money. We also note in your menu that your toasted tea cakes are described as "toasted until golden" its possible you could be add up under the trades description act? On the positive side the staff are the salt of the earth, friendly, obliging and do their very to make your visit a pleasurable experience. But, on our next visit we will have second thoughts about ordering these apologies for toasted Tea Cakes. Please bring back the old variety.

it's a lovely spot and the café , though run down, is bright and inviting. However I do not like dogs being allowed in the self service section where their wagging tails and shaking fur goes all over the open cake displays and the cutlery etc. Very off putting so didn't stay. Ordered the roast beef Sunday lunch - what a disaster. The beef was over cooked so rather dry, the vegetables were very undercooked so I couldn't eat them, the Yorkshire pudding was stale, chewy and fit to sole a shoe and the gravy tasted of very little (rather gelatinous). I complained and was told they would mention it to the chef (rather a misnomer under the circumstances). I was not offered any substitute, part refund, free drink etc. Badly trained staff who are not taught how to handle a complaint. I'm local and won't be going there again I can assure you.

Admittedly it was a dull February day but this place hardly rates a visit - the cafe itself could do with a good spruce up overall and there are really hard chairs with no cushions or seat- pads and it was VERY cold, just some sort of red lights in the corner pretending to be a fire! The food was OK but is expensive for what you get eg £6.99 for two (very) small fishcakes and a bit of salad, £2.99 for a slice of cake ! The 'home store' in the main house is decidedly run-down - Christmas decorations still on sale ( albeit at 75% off) and a general feeling of neglect although some nice stuff in some of the rooms - but lots of cobwebs in corners and again so COLD - not a good retail experience - no smiling welcoming staff and more to the point no customers either!

It was supposed to come with local Swifts bread (as advertised on menu board) but didn't, it came with horrid white supermarket pap. Asked for a cheese scone instead..... which was basically a sweet scone with cheese on top!....weird. The chef appeared in the cafe and her chefs whites were a grubby shade of grey ...not hygienic.Overall a dated establishment that desperately needs some fresh and imaginative input.

I visit Burford House regularly as I live local to it in Tenbury Wells. I have never taken the time to write a review but thought it deserved one, especially after I read the recent unjust negative comments, although not many I hasten to add!Burford House offers a very pleasant place to visit and eat at especially when the sun is shining. There is a great garden centre to browse around and also a beautiful house selling lots of lovely gifts and home furnishings. Not forgetting to mention a very well kept garden which backs onto the River Teme and is a beautiful setting to sit in and watch the world (or the wildlife on the river) go by.Unlike many places Burford House DO NOT charge to go around their gardens but I think there is an option of donating to charity with no pressure what so ever to do so might I add.In the summer Burford House often put on events that are also NON CHARGED for like falconry displays, farmers fayres, food fayres and Christmas Fayres and these are always well worth a visit. The place is very child friendly (as long as you supervise little ones around the duck ponds) and they have a good small wooden playground area the kids can run around. It provides picnic benches to sit on too unlike many childrens play areas whilst you are left standing whilst watching your children play. Near the play area there is also a little wooded trail area that my 7 year old likes to go around. It doesn't take long to walk around but the children like to play hide and seek in it.Mustn't forget to mention also on site is a separate small reclamation shop/business selling lots of lovely old interesting bits and pieces for both the home and garden and it's not "tat" unlike some very rude individual on here with obviously no taste described it. Adrian the owner is really nice, great to barter with and my friends and I have had some fab bargains from there. The nice thing is there is never any pressure when you want to have a look around even if you don't want to buy anything on that day.The cafe is a large conservatory type building, yes it is old and could do with a bit of freshening up here and there but that said, so could a lot of places! This is at the end of the day mainly a garden centre type establishment and does not claim to be a top class restaurant or 5* eatery. The cafe has a lovely outside seating area in the summer which is on the lawn and next to the duck pond so you can sit and watch the ducks and their funny antics as well as your children feed the ducks with very cheaply purchased duck food at only 15p per bag! The cafe sells nice home cooked food which consists mainly of soup, sandwiches, baked potatoes etc, a good selection of great cakes and sweets and a good home cooked Sunday lunch. The food ingredients are of excellent quality and I know the meat products are sourced from Checketts of Ombersley butchers which is a very well known high class butcher in Worcester.ALL the staff who work on site in the various departments at Burford House are very friendly, always welcoming and nothing is too much trouble if you ask. If something isn't right (they don't claim to be perfect) with a smile on their face they will do their utmost to accommodate you. And if they don't.....look out for Paul the manager and he will sack them! : )The events they put on for the children throughout the year are great fun especially "Breakfast with Santa". These events are charged for as they provide food etc. and a gift but are well worth it and my 7 year old loves them. Bring back the circus again please as most enjoyable last year.So if you are looking to spend a few hours somewhere nice and pleasant (with or without children) where you don't have to spend a lot of money unless you want to then I do recommend Burford House. Simply sit, sample the lovely coffee and cakes, read the papers, enjoy the scenery and stay as long as you like.....they don't mind!......And to the previous negative reviewer, yes the cook or female chef (not sure of the right term?) might on occasions wear a "colourful" chefs coat but to me this is the sign of a hard working busy person and does not in anyway affect the quality or the food hygiene conditions. I'd worry more if the chefs coat was pristine clean to me reflecting not a lot of food orders which in self could speak volumes! To all the staff, keep up the good work and I look forward to many more visits throughout the coming seasons!

My first visit to Burford house cafe and definitely my last! We ordered the soup of the day which said came with Swifts bread. When the soup arrived it was obvious it wasn't the local Swifts bread but a cheap supermarket bought bun. When I questioned the member of staff about the bread he then admitted it WASN'T swifts bread which they had advertised on the menu! As for the soup.... or should we call it bowl of tinned tomatoes- watery and bland! Big disappointment.

We Called by on our way back to Mid Wales This was not our first visit here and most definitely will not be our last. What a pleasant surprise to find the restaurant area extended.. its twice the size now which has improved it greatly .The staff were all friendly The service excellent and the food was really lovely. The place has been tastefully fitted out with good quality tables and chairs all topped with small vases of fresh flowers I found the toilets to be spotlessly clean It's a really lovely place the whole setting is quite simply stunning. We will not be leaving it so long before visiting again.

It's been a few years since I last visited Burford, The previous time the restaurant was some what different. Has it been moved to this smaller location.I was very disappointed with the cafe in fact the whole area looked very down at heel.I'm not normally one to give poor reviews but after getting up early to make full use of the day I felt the whole trip was a let down. I can appreciate the it is very early in the season but popular places like this should keep up their appearances. We had made a special effort to revisit especially as the Salavaged store had been shown on Drew Pritchards television programme and this would bring different aspects and people to the house.

My first visit to Burford House. My last visit to the cafe! Apart from the coffee which was lovely - the whole place needs a facelift. The female chef - well - she was wearing a chef jacket that can only be described as disgusting. It was the dirtiest, grubbiest, piece of clothing I have ever seen and reflected the jacket potato I had! The ladies loos were as miserable too - broken loo seats, empty loo roll holders, cold hand drier- not impressed!

When you visit this beautiful house, garden & nursery I would suggest that you also visit their cafe where you can buy some mouth watering pastries & cakes as well as cream teas & a variety of hot & cold drinks which may take your fancy. A lovely place to sit & contemplate the beauty of their great gardens & rest a while.

Having arrived at 10am, (opening time), I feel we were entitled to expect freshly cooked sausages and fresh bread for our sandwiches at £3.99 each, but not so!!! The sausages were hard, and had clearly been cooked awhile and kept warm, and the crusts came off the slices of bread, which clearly wasn't very fresh! So disappointing, we will not be back!

I always enjoy coming to Burford Gardens cafe - the food is fresh and the service friendly. The setting, however, is the star - overlooking Burford House and gardens it's fun to watch the ducks splashing about.

We have stopped numerous times at Burford House over the past few years and usually have a drink and a bite to eat and in general terms the food is ok, nothing special but the cakes are quite good, but we were somewhat disappointed today with the service. It was mid afternoon on a Sunday and although there were a reasonable number of customers, many sat outside, when we got inside, there was quite a queue with just one young girl serving. There were several clearing tables and waiting for people to finish so they could grab their plates, but it was obvious the young girl needed a hand but for nearly 15 minutes no one assisted her. Eventually, an efficient young lady who had clearly been working in the kitchen came and joined her and got the queue moving, but by this time, we decided just to have a drink as we didn't know how long it would be if we ordered food, so we had a drink and went elsewhere for food. A shame really as this is a pleasant enough place to go for a drink and a bite to eat when in the area.

Perfect jacket potato with tuna mayo not sloppy but tasty. Nice fresh salad. Others had stilton and broccoli soup with large crusty roll and butter. Good pot of tea, plenty of milk. Waitress service, pleasant and efficient. Clean surroundings and tables cleared promptly. The House had an interesting array of goods to buy plus a really good line in wooden furniture.Garden centre plants were healthy looking though quite expensive.

Burford house has been a favourite garden centre and cafe of ours for many years, when visiting the nearby national trust places.Today it was a terrible disappointment ! We were surprised when at 2.30 on a Sunday afternoon the cafe was almost empty, most tables needed clearing having done so we sat down to eat (the coffee and cake I must say were delicious ) but once settled we noticed people at the next table had a dog on the seat feeding it cake. Is this common practice there I wondered I have nothing against dogs but I shall not be returning as I do not think they should be in a cafe .In the garden centre a man was riding a bicycle also his two children were riding around and around.I would have mentioned both of my complaints to someone but sadly the only staff we saw were young people on the tills in both the cafe and garden centre. The place is badly run down ,which is very sad to see .What has gone wrong there!!!!'

Visited in December 2014 with family. The food is average at best. Shame really as it could be a goldmine and a real draw for customers. I'd rather pay a bit more for better quality food with a larger portion. The salad is unimaginative and limp. The venue has a nice atmosphere including looking around the garden centre and gardens of the large House which are great, it's just the food is just ok at the cafe. I have been a number of times so I guess this review is a combination of those experiences. If the food could be got right, this could be a great cafe. I like Burford a lot, but the restaurant lets it down a little bit.

This is a great place to meet up with friends for coffee, a tasty lunch or tea and cakes! Always a good choice of delicious cakes! Lunch menu not extensive but a varied snack menu as well - anything from soup, tea cakes, plowmans, veggie meal. Puddings too. Also do a Sunday Lunch. Drinks and cakes are self-service, but hot meals are brought to your table. All staff very friendly and helpfulIts lovely to go there, visit the garden centre and Burford House. Have a look around the house and gardens. Also a place selling reclaimed materials for houses.Plus a childrens play area.

I reviewed this a year ago and have visited again and found the staff friendly, and there is a good selection of snacks and meals -all good value as portions are a good size. It was busy being a sunny Sunday but there are plenty of tables inside and out. Would recommend.

The menu was poor, their had been no changes since we stayed last year. My husband ordered the risotto, he didn't expect to have to pull sticks of heards out of his meal.

After having a lovely roast at the kings head we sat in their garden having a drink. Really unprofessionally the manager came over from the star inn and asked us to join them because ‘the drinks are cheaper’ Maybe but the live music is awful and your pub is empty - we now know why. So rude. Really unprofessional and an awful attitude to have towards another local business Absolutely no business coming from our large group who would have happily spent money behind the bar.

An amazing Sunday lunch at this lovely local pub. Visited with friends and 3 of us chose the roast beef. It is the best beef I've eaten. My friend, who is a vegetarian, had the Sunday roast but substituted the meat for cauliflower cheese...which she loved. I would highly recommend this lovely place for a warm and friendly Sunday lunch.
