Bulls Head Public House in Leicester

We visited on Saturday lunchtime in March and were asked to wait 45 mins to order as the kitchen wad busy. Unfortunately this turned into an hour and a quarter despite our 3 polite requests to order. By this time we had lost faith. The decor also looks in need of an update.

This has been the best pub Sunday dinner I’ve had for years It was absolutely beautiful It really made my mother really happy and any good child would would want to make there mother have a really nice meal on Mothers Day . Also the decorations are so nice and interesting.

We visited for lunch and after having a look at the menu I chose the turkey and stuffing baguette, chips and dipping gravy and my husband had the fish and chips. Both meals were generous portions, nicely presented and tasty.

Four of us had a great time for Sunday lunch. Food was perfect - well presented and extremely tasty. Despite being very busy in the bar and restaurant the staff are brilliant. All young girls and so cheerful and polite. They are dressed smartly and do a wonderful job - all look very happy to be there. Well done - keep up the good work - you deserve your excellent reputation.

This place has the most surprising food. It’s fairly small and unassuming yet has a brilliant menu! We absolutely love it here. Besides a wide variety of meat choices as a vegetarian/pescatarian I’m always happy here. Portions are very generous and the staff is extremely friendly. Wine menu is great, too.

Wow, wow, wow! We had a wonderful lunch here. The menu was extensive, the service was excellent and the food was just perfect!

Quite simply the best burger I've ever had! Triple cooked fries, tasty side salad, missus had the steak and eggs, never seen her eat so much. Fires lit, ate in the bar which is cosy and welcoming, staff are great and the food is cooked by a real chef but the prices are pub prices and very reasonable, good selection of beer, a must for families , couples and everyone.

Took the parents in law for a joint birthday meal. We’ve been there a few times before but tonight’s meal was especially noteworthy. Everything was just perfect. Between us we had the Moules, smoked salmon and black pudding starters, all very tasty and well presented. For mains, three of us had the lamb, beautifully pink and tasted wonderful. One of us had the pork belly - loads of meat and you could cut it with a fork. Triple cooked chips that were crisp on the outside and soft on the inside and the largest mutant onion rings ever seen. All washed down with bottles of Shiraz and Bordeaux. Service was relaxed and pleasant. The ambience was nice without being intrusive. Best meal out I’ve had in years and bearing in mind this was nigh on Michelin class food, the bill was entirely reasonable in comparison to other meals I’ve had at nearby restaurants. Highly recommended.

Lovely pub, bit noisy in the front part but was okay. The best burger and chips I have ever had. The wait was a long one but I think they were busy that evening.

Friendly welcome, excellent service throughout and delicious meals - Chicken Burger and Chef’s special meatballs with Mac n cheese. Will be back.

The food was lovely but the best thing is that 2 people requested gluten free food. Nothing was to much trouble. They were happy to make most things on the menu gf. Lovely staff who were friendly and really helpful. Food was reasonably priced. What more could you want. Thank you for not making us feel different because needed gf food. This is poor because there was a long wait for food and there wasn’t many people, portions were too big we order macaroni cheese as a side and it didn’t cool down and the portions were that bad they gave my mum diarrhoea

Went to have a couple of quiet drinks with my fiancée, sat outside for 30-45 minutes and didn’t get a drink even after going inside twice asking for somebody to serve us, won’t be going there again

We booked for Sunday lunch here last Sunday, having found this place two months ago and being really pleased to find a local cooking lovely fresh food and fabulous service, must say really disappointed now after our last visit. I can appreciate how busy they are in these strange times. The young staff work really hard but are kept very busy. Had an overall feeling the landlord wasn’t really bothered and quite abrupt but being there before the landlady was delightful and very helpful. Food wise - lamb was full of veins and carrots pinged off the plate as not cooked! The rest of the family had beef and nut roast and loved it apart from the carrots! Quite disappointed leaving this very honest review as we’ve loved it previously.

Have to say not been to The Bulls Head for years and years but decided to drop in on the off chance for food last night. The new norm was well organised with all safety measures in place. The real purpose of this review is to congratulate them on the food, truly excellent! Beautifully presented, fresh and really tasty. Will definitely be returning!

We went for a drink early on a Tuesday evening. Lived here for nearly 3 years and never been to this place. We loved it, the young girl behind the bar was very professional, friendly and helpful. Had a look at the menu, which looked fresh and interesting. We will definitely be back and will try the food next time. For those thinking of going to the Red Cow don't bother, go to this place, you won't be disappointed.

Really pleased with service and food choice/quality. Gave a poor review a couple of years ago but new management/chef/staff has transformed the experience. We were staying in the Premier Inn just up the road from The Bulls Head and the receptionist recommended it as a good place for us to eat. She was right. It was during the time when pubs were just starting to re open after lock down. The Bulls Head team were really friendly and professional and made us feel very safe. The pub was set up really well to keep customers socially distant. Our meals were great. My Chicken Ceasar salad was one of the best I have had in ages and my wife really enjoyed her fish pie. The kids were not disappointed by by their meals either. I would highly recommend The Bulls Head to any families looking for a great pub meal. We accidentally left our jumpers there and we spoke to the manager the next day and she was happy to send them back to us in Essex without even asking for the money for the post.

We have eaten at the Bulls Head twice in August, the food was excellent, very tasty and hot. My Partner couldnt recommend the Fish and chips highly enough and that is very rare for him.

Lovely village pub. Inside is nicely laid out with lots of different areas. In the summer the outside areas are also lovely. The food can be expensive, as is the bar, but you pay for what get. The food is absolutely stunning, presented lovely, tasty and of a high quality. I'd definitely class it as fine dining.

We called in today for a Sunday lunch we hadn't booked as we were not sure of our arrangements so we took a chance it turned out to be a good decision, the car park was full so we thought it would be a problem they could not have been more welcoming, they had a great choice on the menu but we both chose a roast it was lovely the meat potatoes Yorkshire and gravy came on the plate closely followed by a dish of veg more than enough for two people,we followed up with a pudding as you do,it was equally as nice needless to say we have booked again for two weeks time many thanks all much appreciated great value for money,kinds regards DG.

We have driven past this pub for 2 years now and finally got round to popping in for a drink! So glad we did! Lovely atmosphere, good choice of drinks, we didn’t eat but had a look at the menus and will def be coming back for lunch and dinner. The music playlist was great! Well impressed, as a vegetarian it’s often hard to find a good menu and this place was great. I had lentil and mushroom pie, it was delicious! Pops had ham egg and chips and again was amazing and good portion. Staff all really down to earth and lovely too

We have been to the Bull's Head for food before in week nights, and were very impressed with the quality. We were told that the Sunday roast was one of the best around, so we booked in. And you do need to book, as it is very popular!The pub itself is a lovely old building, and has plenty of parking. The staff are very welcoming, and they have a good selection of beers. The food is absolutely top drawer. Our party had 3 courses each, and they were all excellent. Between us, we had soup, salmon salad, chicken parfait, and the roast beef and lamb. Portion sizes are generous, and the gravy is to die for!!Dessert was just as impressive. The creme brulee was genuinely what you would expect to be served in a fancy restaurant.Overall, this was a fine-dining-type experience in an old, local pub. Cannot speak highly enough of it.

Lovely welcome. Warm and friendly, restaurant is clean and the view is wonderful, really good Sunday lunch. I had salmon and my son had baked ham which is unusual to find for Sunday lunch. Really enjoyed the desserts too. Will definitively be back. Great choice of music too

We attended with a group for a birthday celebration and thought that it was an absolutely beautiful old building which has been decorated beautifully with a lovely fire...so cosy....the food was the let down...cold meals....fatty meat...odd combinations..we will not be visiting again unless the food improves immensely.....

We popped in for a news years day drink with our dog. We were greeted with smiles by welcoming staff. Lovely atmosphere, log fires and a cosy setting. We were immediately offered dog treats and water for the hound. A super little pub! Highly recommended if you're looking for a country pub with an excellent choice of ales and a fabulous ambiance. Visited The Bulls Head last Saturday before a visit to The Curve in Leicester. Thought it better to eat lunch at The Bulls Head outside of Leicester because of time scale and ahead of all the traffic in Leicester. Unfortunately I assume they were having staff problems as it took at least 20 mins to take drinks order and a long time for the drinks to arrive. The food order was the same. Such a long time to arrive.

Excellent visit, staff very friendly & efficient. Couldn't do enough for us. Served us in the restaurant for over 3 hours. Didn't feel rushed. We all had 2 courses & plenty of drinks & coffee's. £103 for 4 people, which was fantastic value. I can recommend the halloumi burger it was very tasty & the lemon tart was delicious too. Will definitely be returning. Thanks for an enjoyable experience

We returned to the UK in Nov. last year and were regular visitors to the Bull's Head where we found good food and a warm welcome. Sadly after Xmas things went downhill fast, with I believe several changes in management.After one dismal meal and reading a few bad reviews we stopped going months ago. How things have changed. After seeing a few full car parks and good reviews we went back today. I had a superb rib-eye steak with herb butter, and fried onions to die for! OK, so we had to wait a long time for food to be freshly cooked, and the prices were a a little bit more than we would normally pay as pensionners, but it was well worth it. Going back again to try their Sunday lunch.

A Sunday Lunch For a Birthday, The Menu was around 5 choices of starters Mains & Deserts, Most of us Went straight to mains, and Everyone seemed to enjoy the Meals, Sadly only one Vegetarian Option, which was okay, but would have liked more choice.

We went to the bulls head for a family 60th birthday meal. The lady that was behind the bar was absolutely fantastic she made you feel welcome straight away. Our food came and we all loved it I had a vegetarian mushroom dish to which was the tasties homemade meal I've had for a very long time,the rest of the party had steak said was cooked perfect and salmon Brill. Would highly recommend it fab night.

Sunday lunch. The amount of meat is brilliant , lovely roasties and yorkshire pud. Definitely worth a visit.

Think my plate says it all. Saved a bit of room for dessert . Then had to get home to get in more comfy clothing. I was stuffed . Ready to enjoy my Sunday afternoon nap . This is what Sundays are about .

Limited menu... poor servings! Salad consists of lettuce and cucumber!! Slow service... only 3 deserts!!!! Generally poor and shabby!!!

Stopped here for a meal, am so glad we did the food was amazing, all freshly made on the premises. The chef had no issues with adjusting my order to fit in with my needs. Came in this afternoon for lunch with my partner in the restaurant area, was not even busy and waited for food for a long while and i also heard the boss in the kitchen speak to the waitressing in a unprofessional way! Could tell the staff was uncomfortable! Especially the young girl!

Food was brilliant, service was quick and staff were friendly and attentive. New owners, new menu, much improved! Highly recommend and will be visiting again soon.

I've been here multiple times now and it is so good! The food is delicious, with a lot of things to choose from, and the service is very friendly. All in all a great afternoon / evening out.

Visited mid week for our anniversary lunch and wish we had gone elsewhere. It soon became evident that this establishment had recently changed hands, service was slow; food was not very appetizing when presented; and the small portion of vegetables were 'warm'. We were offered the desert menu on a piece of scrap paper and informed that 'they hadn't got around to sorting a proper menu out yet', needless to say we didn't order any further food. We did convey some constructive feedback to the hosts, and were duly asked to return to 'see if they had improved'. It wont be for some time i'm afraid. If your not readily prepared to open for business, then don't open until you are !!

This place has been taken over again! However it’s for the better finally the food is incredible. I was very impressed. Would 100% recommend the pub to anyone. Prices have also go down!

Just been for a late lunch, The staff were very friendly, but it was like watching Fawlty Towers. We ordered our food only to be told that it wasn't available, and we were offered a different meal at the price we had already paid, which was fair enough. The food was "ok" but I have had better and paid less. They don't have numbers on the tables so the staff were wondering around with plates of shouting if this was any bodies order, which was quite funny to watch... The Staff are trying really hard and are very pleasant, they seem to lack any sort of ordering system, and I feel all their problems would be solved by numbering the tables outside. The pub grounds are nice and the play area is good for the kids. With a bit of improvement with the front of house staff and an improvement in the kitchen this place would be great.

Dad & I stopped going here at the end of May. We had a poor Sunday roast, but overlooked it as our week day meals were still very good. After Chris left. It stared to go down. I encounted the then new manager Carol, who was really rude to me when we arrived for our Booked sunday lunch, this was the poor one mentioned above. she left then there was another who only seemed to last a couple of weeks. then the next one came. It was he who was doing the cooking - if you can call it that - the last time we went. I ordered the 'Kids' fish and chips which I have been having for about 3 years minimum, it is not that we want ceap meals I have a small appitite. The manager sent a message via the waitress that this would be the last time I could have the kids size. she explained I always had it, but he said he did not care. Well yes he was right. It was the last time I had it as we have not been since ! The batter was under cooked, chips not cooked properly either. dad had the normal size Fish & Chips and his was just the same. The manager looked scruffy in jeans and shirt, cooking without any apron or anything. I was very upset. I emailed Everards at the time to tell them about what was happening. Everards have ignored this. The blub on this about new management, join Chris etc is well out of date. They left in March 2019

Well haven t been here for years and I realised why . Ordered food from a grubby menu limited choice .very little fresh food ordinary pub grub .

When we arrived it wasnt very busy compared to previous visits. When they brought the food out it was all cold, and they didnt ask if we wanted any sauces or bring spoons for the veg like she said she would. There wasnt enough vegetables to go around four people, so I asked for more only to be told that they had ran out. I had no stuffing and someone else had no pigs in blankets, they had ran out of these as well. The roast potatoes where that done and crisp you couldnt eat them. Overall very disappointing.

Have been visiting this pub for over 40 years and always knew you could rely on great food and good service. However, we visited tonight for a family meal. On arriving we couldn’t understand where all the customers were. It was always a very busy pub. The menu has been reduced to very basic pub grub and we were told there was no lasagne as it was the head chefs day off and no one else in the kitchen was able to make it. 3 out of 5 of us wanted lasagne. The food was generous portions, hot, but sadly lacked the WOW factor that we have previously enjoyed here. Where has all the freshly prepared food gone? It is such a shame and sadly we will not be returning. I could not recommend this place.

We went for a Roast dinner and it was the worst meal I have ever had out. Some of the items were missing (they had ran out - no pre warning when ordering), half was burnt / dried up and it was cold. When we asked for more / a replacement we was told it was the last cover (3.45) and that was all they had left. We had pre booked so they new we was coming to make sure they had food left. When we said we wasn’t happy the staff didn’t even apologise. Worst service and food ever. Looks like things have gone down hill since new management as we have had nice meals here before. Won’t be going back.

We were waiting for 20 minutes just to be acknowledged for a drink, even then no luck. Ended up walking to the bar to request someone to come over (bear in mind the place was empty and we were in plain view) to tell the barman that I had asked someone to come over who looked me blank in the face and walked off when I said excuse me - yes he DID work there. No apology. Finally 30 minutes later some young boy walked over and we asked what lagers you have on tap.. his reply was Guinness and Strongbow. Neither lager. Whilst he went to check we walked out, 40 mins with no drinks or patience, and had to find somewhere else on short notice for a family dinner. Worst experience ever.

I’m no expert on insects but 3 large beetles resembling cockroaches greeted us at the door on arrival which should have given me the cue to leave. However we went with it and were further greeted by the warm and welcoming staff...oh no wait a minute, they weren’t. The roaches had more customer service skill!

Party of 6 visited pub to celebrate fathers day. Had a two course meal listed as £15.95 on the menu. We chose to have a starter but had to chase where our starters were as had been waiting for about an hour for them to arrive. Apologies were made and offered drinks for our inconvenience. We also had about an hours wait for the mains to come, dont mind half an hour but an hour is too long in my opinion. When the bill came, we had been overcharged by 25%. When we queried this we were told that there was a £3 supplement on our trio sunday roast and we were told that this was indicated on the menu. Recalled seeing a supplement for the steak but could not recall anything about the Sunday roast so decided to check this out on the menu. There was nothing highlighted on the menu and i informed a member of staff of this fact and i said we should not be charged an extra £3 each. She said that she would need to speak to the head chef about it but when she cameback said there was nothing she could do and we would have to pay the extra. The sums were still not adding up, they then thought a mistake had been made with the drinks and thought they were doing us a favour by reducing bill from £128 to £108. We were still not happy as we should have been charged for 2 drinks (rest of drinks were purchased from the bar) plus 6 meals at £15.95. Bill should have been approx £99. We then asked a member of staff to speak to a manager whereby she rolled her eyes in disgust i presume because we were still questioning the bill. A young gentleman who was the manager previously and was helping out on the day was apologetic and gave us our third bill. He explained how we had been overcharged as starters and the main had been charged separately rather than the set price of £15.95. The whole experience was spoilt by excessive waiting times, being overcharged by 25% and how rude the girl waitress was rolling her eyes in disgust. Appreciate that fathers day may be busy but hire in more staff who are not rude. Will remember this special occasion but not for the right reasons!!!!!

Visited the bulls head this evening and decided to give it a go despite the reviews recently posted. I have to say the food was excellent and portion sizes were plenty. It's a very attractive pub too with a very relaxed atmosphere and attractive design.Staff were great and happy to help and really want to make sure you have a the best time. They obviously love what they do and where they work and this certainly shows. Will be recommending to others. It's a thumbs up from me!

I used to live in Leicester and went here often so when driving through I stopped for a bite to eat. The place was totally empty except staff. Had a beer but it felt like something was wrong so I didn't order food. I asked the bar why was no one here and they said they didn't know. We then went to the next pub and asked if they knew and they knew all about it saying there's a constant stream of managers, none lasting more than a few weeks, and all the staff have left or are leaving because of incompetent management. The place must be loosing a fortune as they are running a bar and a restaurant but have no customers. The rumors are that it will close soon.

We visited last Saturday. We had steak with pepper sauce. We thought the meal comprised of excellent quality of ingredients and it was very tasty. The restaurant ambiance was also very nice so we would normally rate this sort of experience as five stars. We did however notice a hatch where kitchen staff were plating up meals. Here lies our first negative... Staff touching our food with their bare hands, picking chips up and putting them onto our plates with their fingers. We realise this probably happens in most restaurants and the kitchen and hygiene appeared clean but... Did we the customer need to see our dinner being fingered?? Probably not. Tongs may be a better idea! Also a weighted door to the kitchen might be an idea as we also saw a guy touching the top of the door every time he reached out to pull it shut! Simple changes and this restaurant will be awesome.

I have been dropping into the Bulls Head for years. A few weeks ago we came in and was very pleased with the welcome. A new guy Rob had taken over and straight away we were made to feel welcome,he was a great host very welcoming and very out going and interested to meet my husband and I. He was the best we had seen for a long time and have been back several times. On Monday we decided to go and have lunch as we wanted to help him rebuild the business and show him our support. when we arrived the Bull atmosphere had changed to our horror. When we asked where Rob was the staff were more than happy to boast that he was no longer at the Bull. We were amazed that such a great guy had left and that the staff were happy about it, I have read the the reviews and dont believe them for a minute. As far as my husband and I am concerned he was very good, its a shame more people are not like him, maybe someone took a dislike to him and posted their opinion, which we feel hard to believe especially as the locals were also praising him up.

For a Saturday night, we were surprised to find that our group of 18 adults was the only trade that this expensive pub restaurant had that night. Afterwards, we understood why that had been. Our group has used this restaurant on several previous occasions with mixed, but not particularly bad experiences. However, on this occasion the evening probably marked our final visit. Service was both painfully slow and inefficient with incorrect meal options ‘thrown’ onto the plates and steaks that would have been better used in a shoe factory than any restaurant. Replacement meals for those plated incorrectly took ages to arrive despite there being no other customers to service and seemingly plenty of staff albeit very young looking and whose inexperience may have contributed to the errors. When it (eventually) a couple of hours later, came to desserts, several supposedly ‘hot’ dishes were served up still partially frozen and were returned for a second spell in the microwave. In summary, not the best place I’ve eaten, but one of the most expensive of it’s type and among the very worst meals that I can recall ever having been served. Never again.

Didn't eat the food as it was delivered on dirty plates and bowls with dirt and grime on the sides and underneath. Seemed unwashed from last customer. Unacceptable.

My wife had booked a table, but circumstances changed and so she phoned to let them know we could not keep the booking. The person on the phone told her, on hearing about the change, to "f*ck off then". On hearing the story I phoned to complain to a manager. The lady who answered the phone was very appolegetic and told me that that possibly was the manager who swore at my wife as no one else was working there this morning. She said I could speak to him if I wanted, but I saw no point in complaining to the manager if he himself swore at my wife and decided to take a different approach.

Food was amazing! Waiting staff were lovely along with the bar maid. However at first sight I thought a Rowdy customer was in drinking quiet heavily for a Monday night, but I came to learn he was in fact the manager of the pub and spoke to his staff like something on the bottom of his shoe! He was foul mouthed and made are evening meal feel uncomfortable as he was rather loud and didn’t seem like he was in control of himself. So how is he capable of controlling what I no as a busy establishment?!

Tables were sticky, and the woman behind the bar kept removing the card too early so the payment didn't go through till we pointed it out. Food was tasty though, average burger, chips and onion rings perfectly done. Bit pricier than other pubs, but overall a good experience.
