Booked a table for three for 27th March 24. Baked British Cheese Starter arrived minus the herb butter, piccalilli and onion chutney. Managed to find a waitress and asked for the missing items. Ten minutes later, waitress returned and asked me what sauces did I want! After a 45 minute wait, the mains arrived. The glazed belly pork was just four slithers with mash, carrots and a quarter of cabbage, which were luke warm as were the vegetables with the pie. Carrots were advertised as herb-roasted which they were definitely not. Both meals returned to kitchen. Alternative food was offered which we declined as we knew we would be in for a long wait. The other meal, gammon steak had a side of onion rings which were also cold. All three meals taken off the bill. The two tables either side of us also complained and meals were returned. Been coming to The Bull for the last 20 years and this was the worse meal we've had. We won't be back. I will spend my money else where. where I'll get hot food better service value for money. The Bull did contact me after I email them just said they was sorting issues out what could they could do get my custom back well start with they want your custom back they don't even want to offer you some compliments or voucher to have your custom back well like I said I'll spend my money else where ill get hot food good service & value for money rather than guess whether the food is going to be any good or services going to be any good. By reading review which are only couple days ago the Bull does seem that bothered about get people back once word start get about people well stop go there.

My own starters, the terrine, was absolutely delicious (despite missing the herb butter as advertised, which i was informed they were out of, but turned up on my dads plate next to me), main was bland and had a teaspoon of advertised toppings at most, which for a main salad is not exactly ideal. Almost every dish on our table had something totally missing or not that great, one of us had a pie and only ate the filling, the other had a pie and only ate the crust. Table behind me returned their garlic bread after it was presented to them AS JUST PLAIN BREAD. One of us got a pink gin and lemonade and is convinced it was just lemonade. Staff were lovely, despite obviously being absolutely rammed. Chef was doing their best, wait staff were doing their best, but who the HELL was plating up??? Came here for a 60th birthday, won't exactly be in a clamour to return at speed 🤷‍♂️

I had booked a table but was informed that we would have to wait for our table as the previous people were still there. We waited for 10 to 15 mins for the occupants to leave. No attempt to inform them that they would need to vacate was made. It then took 20 mins for our waitress to appear. Food was ordered and took a while to arrive. I ordered the triple meat roast. Others ordered the steak, which looked really nice but I got 3.5 small fatty bits of meat, not even half of what they had, very disappointing. I felt most of the food was over priced . My husband had a burger and it cost £17.99. This is a pub restaurant not a Michelin star restaurant. I will not be returning here.

Update: After I posted the below review I was asked to contact the pub via their email. I’ve since sent two emails, both were delivered, no response to either!! Four of us visited Sunday at 5.45pm. Every member of staff were friendly and polite and we were shown to a nice table. Drinks arrived quickly and our full order taken. Starters took 10-15 minutes and were as expected. Almost an hour later a lady came to apologise because they’d run out of white rice which affected two meals. The alternative was agreed upon and some 15 minutes later the four meals arrived. The vegetable rice was cold, the Korean chicken luke warm. For the other two meals the fries were limp and barely warm, the steak pie was at least hot, but the vegetables cold. The burger was warm and had clearly sat for a while. The nice waitress took the meals away and offered to re-do them. This took another 25 minutes. The same burger was brought out, clearly reheated. The rice was still barely warm, the fries were again limp and cold, the vegetables even worse than before. We left after paying for our drinks. The major issue was that one of our party is diabetic and on receiving the initial main course had taken their medication. This caused a big problem because of the delays and awful food. We noticed several other people also having issues with their food and were returning it. Overall this is a lovely pub in a great location let down by poor service and presentation.

What a difference!! We had been getting more and more disappointed each time we came but today... Well, the service was great (big shout out to Ally). The new menu was incredible, we had glazed pork belly and a duo of chicken, the tastes were so good 😋. The food was so good we stayed for dessert, a gorgeous chocolate fondant brownie to share.. Well done the Bull, you smashed it, keep it going, we'll be back...

came for a family Sunday lunch. The service was great but the food hit and miss, leaving us a bit disappointed. Starters: some were good (eg ham hock terrine, Korean chicken strips), but the "bread and oils" was rubbish; we'd expectef olive oil (although admittedly that is not stated on the menu), but instead was a (single) tasteless oil (maybe nut based?), with a dash of balsamic vinegar. The bread was underwhelming - a few pieces of stale flat bread and a few pieces of basic white bread. We all had Sunday roasts which are described as "served with garlic & rosemary duck fat roasties, Yorkshire pudding, sausage meat stuffing, maple-roast carrots & parsnips, seasonal veg and gravy". The roast potatoes didn't have a hint of rosemary, nor were very crunchy. The carrots & parsnips were very soft, no hint of maple, disappointing. The "seasonal veg" was broccoli and peas... maybe broccoli is in season, but I don't think peas are (mid-March) and I've never had them as part of a Sunday roast before. The Bramley Apple Tart had a soft and soggy pastry and was tasteless.

I've not had a roast for ages so decided to head out for one and the Bull was recommended. We got treated by Marni who was lovely...knew the menu and was very friendly. Drinks arrived very quickly followed by an awesome roast beef... luckily Marni had suggested getting the pigs in blankets so I was well and truly stuffed! They had run out of the cauliflower cheese but they had broccoli cheese instead...now a new favourite! A lovely cosy pub next to the woods, great beer and lovely food so I'd definitely recommend to anyone !

Arrived early table not ready so told have a drink and wait in the bar. At 2pm when table was booked for we moved to reception area and waited to be seated. No starters, main meal Seafood grill, tiny piece of sea bass, fillet of salmon, 2 tiger prawns, mini potatoes. No vegetables at quite a high price for the portion size. My mum had sirloin steak half of which she could not cut due to it being mainly hard fat not a great steak for the price paid. Desserts were better but again overpriced for portion size. If you’re hungry I would not recommend this restaurant. I was still hungry when I left!

We could on get early evening two weeks prior so thought it would be great as obviously popular. When we arrived we couldn’t get our table until the very minute of our booking even though there were spare tables. We were then told that a few items were not available but there was quite a bit of the set menu for £28 so didn’t worry. Two of us ordered the roast, but no turkey left so mainly beef, others ordered steak which looked lovely and very freshly cooked. Starters took a while but was really nice, we had the chicken and the squid, squid was not circles as usually served but tasted ok. Just lots of batter. When the mains finally arrived, long wait, the meat was ok but quite fatty around the edges and veg looked really dry but once I tried the potatoes, they were like bullets and really small, Yorkshire was totally inedible as I cut it, it shot across the table, it seemed like it had all been sitting about for far too long. Dessert was ok, but again, what I wanted had run out so had to have cheesecake, that was ok but again, took ages to come and had to keep asking. While wasting our dessert we also asked for the bill and was really surprised that they was presented instantly! So if they were busy, how come they can get the bill quicker than the food. I didn’t complain as it was the kids treat so did feel bad but won’t go there again, food has gone downhill and if they can’t even get a roast reasonable, there’s no point! I would steer clear

We have frequented the Bull for half a century. Yesterday was the first time I have been for a meal and left hungry! My first lasagne was cold in the middle and the replacement lasagne was over cooked on the top and burnt on the sides and bottom. In fairness, the waitress tried her best and did not charge us for the lasagne, but I feel the kitchen needs to know how to heat its meals correctly. I was only able to eat a couple of mouthfuls of the meals; not what I would call a lunch! Such a shame as we call in at least a couple of times and a month, but don’t think we will be rushing back.

Ok let’s start with the good bits. Staff and service were excellent. Lovely decor and good amount of choices for the Mother’s Day menu. The starters were great except I didn’t really enjoy the squid starter not much squid and lots of batter. My father in-laws fish and chips looked great and the desserts were fab. Ok now for the bad bit. The roast dinners are presented nicely and good quality meat but apart from that I have nothing really good to say. The roast potatoes are really small and really dry not a bucket of gravy could disguise that. It’s like they were not part boiled or something and just far too small. The Yorkshire puddings tasted bitter/burnt and was like eating dust. The carrots were obviously boiled and not glazed as stated. The green veg was not particularly hot and peas were hard. The cauliflower cheese was terrible 3bites Of cauliflower and not even a teaspoon of cheese sauce and thimble size of grated cheese on top. Better places to go for a roast.

So very disappointed with the Sunday pork roast dinner. You had to snap the Yorkshire pudding to eat it, 3 Brussels sprouts (yes,, only 3) were too hard to cut, suppose to be glazed carrot but good old boiled turned up, boiled parsnips and hard peas. The meat was good but a lot of fat on the pork and no crackling on plate. Roast potatoes were all very small and all odd little shapes and to top it off it was cold!. Sent whole meal back and replacement was just as bad but a bit warmer. It’s a shame because the actual pub is lovely, the staff were all helpful and not their fault food was abissmal, that’s down to the chef and kitchen. They also take Tesco vouchers, and cash now as well as it was card only. We will not be spending out hard earned money again in this establishment.

Well what an utter waste of time this visit was, booked for an evening sunday roast, what we recieved was a lukewarm and cold in places plate of ineddible food ! We orderd the trio of meats to be told they had run out of pork so we could have a duo instead with some extra from the duo, the extra meat was a quarter of the size of the other slice .. the potatoes we meant to be cooked in goose fat with rosemary ... what we recieved were tiny frozen dried up pieces with nothing in the middle (aunt bessie style) and thats insulting aunt bessies to be fair, veg half cooked and cold all smothered in a thick tar like gravey. Manager came over and was apologetic and said she would feed back to the kitchen then asked if we wanted dessert ??? We hadn't had any dinner, obviously we declined and left very hungry. I have been fortunate to never before had to complain about a meal but this was truly disappointing, needless to say we will not be returning. Beautiful pub but the food was poor. I had the roast dinner and had to return it. The roast potatoes were simultaneously greasy, dry and cold, the veg was over boiled - despite the menu describing the carrots as maple oven roasted - which they definitely weren't and I didn't get a Yorkshire pudding. I then had the veggie burger which wasn't cooked and the chips were horrible but by this time we'd given up. The wine selection was excellent though and it's not expensive. It just seems like a missed opportunity as it's such a gorgeous location and building. N.b. the menu didn't say anything about no Yorkies/ Yorkies and we were unwell afterwards) :

The food also lacked in quality and freshness. It all tasted badly microwaved. The children didn’t enjoy their food either. The pizza was sloppy and soft. Even the ice cream tasted like it had been in the deep freezer for too long and tasted super crunchy and icy. Two of us have belly aches after the experience. First time we have been back since a bad experience two years ago. Can’t recommend. Manager said last time to email, I did and never heard back. Would suggest people avoid. We are at the Bull Thursday 15th Feb. Party of 4. Table booked for 7.15 and waitress took our order for food and drinks promptly. She was polite and cheerful. Starters didn't arrive until close to 8.00. considering it was 1 x squid and 2 x soups that's unbelievably slow. When soup arrived it came with 2 slices of dry white bread, stuck together ( presumably to make it look thicker to resemble the bloomer bread described on the menu ) . This was mentioned to the waitress. When the manager served our main courses, I mentioned it to him and was told " that's what they sent him this week" . Presumably that's Greene King. Really unprofessional response. Why not go and buy some part baked rolls from Tesco and shove them in the oven. They're cooked in 5 minutes !!! As he was removing the soups from our bill. My wife tasted her risotto and it was cold. She took it to him and he came back 3 minutes later ( obviously having shoved it in microwave). At least it was hot after this. The pie I had was good but chips weren't hot. By this time I just wanted to finish and leave. We would have ordered desserts but the meal was ruined by too many things. The manager came and apologized and said he didn't mean to sound sound rude but he was trying to do 3 jobs. We live 200 yds from the Bull. The pub is a fantastic venue but the food is too often lacking what it's described to be and everyone seems to be stretched to the point where corners are cut. It could be soooo good if the food was better. I know things are prepackaged ( fresh risotto can't be made from scratch for every customer ) but that just makes things worse. If the kitchen can't handle serving prepackaged food at a good temperature, what would happen if everything was fresh !! Great pub and location but restaurant is very poor and it shows.

This place is OK. The decor is pretty smart and it has the feel of somewhere worth going. The siting next to the woods and the large car park are also great appeals. The cleanliness was below average for the actual tables, like they hadn't been properly cleaned. Visited on Sunday morning so you'd expect that they would have had time to clean. Service was unnecessarily slow (it wasn't busy) and staff were minimally interactive, with vague pleasantries. Food was of mixed temperatures, most barely warm. Another thing: sign outside the pub bar car park entrance/exit is really dangerously positioned, creating a blind spot when trying to exit the car park. This place has a lot of appeal which makes me want to return, but after this experience it's unlikely that I will.

A lovely pub, right next to the woods. Food is good and great service. It's such a shame that they don't allow dogs in any part of the pub, considering it's at the edge of a very popular woodland where families walk their pets. I would have thought that they would have allowed dogs in the new extension. Eating outside with pets is not acceptable in this weather.

Used to live in hockey and not eaten at the bull for many years. Very disappointed with the food . Three had Sunday roasts with rock hard potatoes that you could not even cut into not much meat and vegetables not very warm. I had cod which tasted like it was frozen rather than fresh as very watery. One of our party has a Bakewell tart that was frozen and not edible for dessert which was sent back and rectified. Overpriced poor quality food and will not be going back which is a shame as pub is nice.

It's been a while since I'd gone to the Bull and had forgotten just how good it is. Even my grandchildren commented on how good the food was! Our waitress, Ally, was brilliant, thank you so much for making this eating experience a really good one for us. Won't be so long till we return next time. I'll also mention the outdoor eating facilities in the summer that are just as comfortable and pleasing an environment.

Went to The Bull to celebrate my dear Mums 90th birthday with family. Our party of 14 was so well looked after by Ally. Ally was attentive, engaging nothing was too much trouble. Our food was fantastic, we were all served at the same time. Management should be so proud of the level of service Ally gives. Thoroughly recommend and look forward to going to the Bull again. Thank you all especially Ally x

No brunch menu available. Only the main lunch menu. No lighter options. Not what we had booked for at 11.30am. Waitress wasn't interested and said she just did what she was told and seemed disinterested in our disappointment and frustration at the restricted menu. This is not the first time this has happened.

Seven of us had pre ordered our xmas meal online after filling out a lengthy form with our orders (no need for this as one of the starters wasnt available as it hadn't been ordered by the staff or they had run out, as informed by the waitress) but I felt it wasnt going to go well on arrival. It started off by the barman complaining to me about the dirty glasses that had been left by the waiting staff on the counter. One of our party had dietary needs so didnt order off the xmas menu but this had already been discussed with the restaurant on booking. When we sat down it was mentioned again that no onion or garlic could be in the meal so the waitress said she would check the food packets (so prepacked food) to see if it contained any of the ingredients. It turned out most of the food contained some form of it so my friend went for the vegan burger that when served, had raw onion on top of the burger under the bun! My Xmas meal seemed to have just been thrown in the microwave as some of it was hot and some was luke warm. The Yorkshire pudding was soft, the roast potatoes were rubbery and the sprouts were hard in the middle and watery mush on the outside with no flavour. The dessert was the funniest with the Xmas pudding looking like it had been cut wth a meat slicer as the portion was rectangular and about 2cm thick (I've added a picture). Others had cheesecake that they said had a weird taste and the top of it was a slimy mass that came off the biscuit base. The food has clearly been cheaply sourced by Greene King and it shows! This used to be a nice pub restaurant but the service and food has gone downhill in a big way and it's only the location and its historic value that brings customers in but that will soon change if Greene King dont up their game.
