Bull & Chequers in Wokingham

Arrived with my daughter for a Brush Party which was a birthday present. She bought a large diet coco cola and an apple and raspberry J2O for which she was charged £6.80. Later, I purchased the exact same things and was told - by the same barmaid - it was £6.90. The 10p is neither here nor there but when I pointed it out she merely shrugged her shoulders - as if to say "so what?" There was no suggestion of rechecking the price or an apology. I fully realise that gone are the days of "the customer is always right" but a simple offer to recheck the price and a simple sorry would have cost nothing. Now, however, you have a poor review, bad "word of mouth" and a customer who will never return.

Menu with lots of options and lovely food, fast and friendly service. Very welcoming even for the dog. Beer garden looks nice for the summer.

When you take your visiting family to your local pub. You sit out the back in the garden on a summer evening with school age children, 2 were teenagers, doing handstands etc very happily, affecting no one else. No one making any fuss. Suddenly at 9.15pm we got told the children have to go! Where this sign is, I have no idea as I photographed the garden sign....not on there ! We were very very surprised and very angry at this injustice, relayed from the management by staff, meanwhile in the pub itself, 2 dogs were barking and creating problems for the bar staff at the sametime, but even though they were asked to leave by staff.....they did not. I am appalled that obviously because there was a fuss going on inside we were lumped in with their 'everyone out ' attitude. My local suddenly doesn't seem so appealing. please take note Management!

Always have a great Sunday roast here. Lots of veg and good portions. I have had a roast for twice this price that was not as good. Friendly helpful staff too.

Had my mum's wake here .The food was amazing and plenty of it ,could not fault the service .

Very loud, OK if you a sports fan, but too noisy for a quiet chat.

This pub is one of the most friendly and relaxing places to visit. Whilst it’s a mix of locals, working people and older folks it makes everyone feel welcome. As older folks we visit in the day time and we enjoy our time here.

Great place for Sunday dinner or a pint with the friends. Great outdoor area for children to play in and it's dog friendly too. Great staff and the floors of the toilets aren't covered in piss.

Delicious roast dinner, all cooked to perfection. Lot's of meat and and roast potatoes and the vegetables had all their colour and crunch. Just as if it was cooked by mum with the added ingredient of love. We will be booking for Christmas x

Nice local pub - can't fault the service every time we've been there, staff are very friendly and hardworking. Food is as you'd expect from your local Greene King but by no means bad! All good value and a good space to go with friends. There is a huge outdoor area but a shame as it just needs some love and attention and it would be the ideal space for kids to run around and play.

Great pub with great kitchen. Hamburgers, pies and kebabs were really delicious. Great prices. Service was a little bit slow but completely understandable since it was crowded on a Saturday afternoon. The pub also have a very big beer garden.

We arrived lunchtime on a Monday for a beer. Great choice of ales & lagers. Very attentive & professional staff, well versed on how to keep the beers tip top, we shall return.

I contacted the Bull and Chequers to arrange a special 90th birthday visit for my mum. My mum and her brother lived in the pub until the 1940s when their parents ran the pub. Neither of them had visited the pub in 75 years. Rachel the manager put on an amazing welcome for my mum and Uncle, decorating the birthday table, giving my Mum a beautiful card, present and birthday balloon. She listened to their stories and gave them a lovely tour of the pub identifying what was the same and what had changed. On top of all these amazing points, the food and team were amazing. Thank you so much for all your thoughtfulness.

Lovely pub but the chef well if you can call them that can't cook a steak for toffee medium rare more like boot leather it tastes more like liver

I was disgusted to see your bar staff wearing shirts from horrible clubs. Really bar staff should be neutral. I refused to be served by her. Its no wonder this pub has a rough reputation if you are lax with staff attire. This is Reading, not Manchester!

Not been here for years. Much improved! The menu is typical pub food, but exactly what is need when that is the itch. Service was excellent and the burgers were tasty and huge. I will be a new regular!

Popped in again for Sunday lunch. It's so good with lovely beef and large portions. My husband and I now come here most Sundays as the roast beef lunch is excellent and such good value that it's not worth the effort of doing it myself at home. I come to this pub regyarly as it is my local the atmosphere is always friendly and welcoming. Lauren, Claire and Rachel always go above and beyond with customer service. Highly reccomend.

The service and food is good quality and extremely good for the price. My favourite thing to get is the chick n’ mix. Lauren always makes sure our table is topped up with food and drinks!

Best pub experience of my life! My phone was dying and I was in desperate need of a charger, one of the staff called Lauren lent me her phone charger so that I could get home. Can’t thank her enough, excellent customer service.
