Good food served quickly at a reasonable cost

Seen this place a while back as being recommended so decided I'd have a birthday meal there. Was not disappointed. Proper food and top quality. Staff great too. Will be back and recommending to friends and family

We visited this beautiful little pub for the first time yesterday . The staff were very welcoming and lovely as are the local residents. The Food was absolutely outstanding and drinks are great. We can’t wait to visit again. Most definitely recommend this little pub if you’re passing by . Thank you for your hospitality xx

This is a traditional pub with a decent pub menu. We had Sunday lunch and the food was lovely with decent portions of vegetables and cauliflower cheese for the table. Service was friendly and food delivery was timed well. The menu isn’t huge but there are enough choices to be varied. The only thing is there could be more non-meat options but we were happy with our food. It’s nice to visit a country pub that is not pretentious like some of them can be. Also it was nice to be able to choose our own tip. So many places put automatic service charges on the bill now. We were more than happy to leave a tip for our visit here.

Recently had my son's birthday party here. What a venue! Beautiful outdoor area overlooking an amazing park with lots for the children to play on. The owners were absolutely lovely, made everything so easy for me to arrange the party, happily answered any questions I had and were on hand for anything I needed on the day. Really attentive, really friendly and made my son"s birthday even more special! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Bull and Butcher to anyone thinking of holding a party there or going for a meal or even a quick drink, it is simply fabulous!!!

Cracking little village pub. And little describes it well. Low ceilings and nice decor. Didn't eat so can't comment on the food, but the restaurant looked cosy. The outside space which looks across the village green is a fantastic view. Great parking too for a small pub.

Had Sunday dinner here with family and this review is long overdue what a fantastic pub food brilliant, service excellent atmosphere great, wish my local was as good as this. If Carlsberg did pubs this would be it.

Very small bar, so you can't 'prop it up', but if the weather is OK, there are plenty of outdoor seats and tables under cover. Had a Sunday lunch there where the locals had 'bigged it up' as great, therefore we expected an anti-climax. However, it was superb and savoured every course so much, we couldn't eat anything more until breakfast the next day! Prices are very fair for the quality of food.

A lovely country pub where everyone knows everyone. It's wonderful to see the camaraderie and just soak in the atmosphere. Very laid back, but the food was wholesome tasty and good. Would definitely visit again given a chance.

Meat was very tough roasters not cooked and half of veg served half way through eating I won’t be returning

Wonderful food, took a little while to come. But it was worth the wait. All freshly made. Large play park opposite, great for kids. Lots of outdoor seating too. Looking forward to Sunday lunch in the future. Dog friendly too.

Very well looked after for an enjoyable late lunch with our grand-daughter. Great selection of main courses including a fantastic home made pie - a real pie with pastry all around! Bonus is a great kids playground opposite the pub.

We had a nice Sunday lunch here. The roasted cauliflower was amazing. The beef and lamb were only two pieces. The sticky toffee pudding was too soft.

First Visit for a long time it is a very friendly Pub with good beer. The Sunday Lunch was great value with good service. A special mention for the rhubarb crumble Will definitely re visit

Had a lovely meal with a group of friends. Despite the wide ranging orders, and large group, the food was brought to the table promptly and at the same time. Lovely staff who were very attentive to our needs. We ate inside, could have dined outside where there are covered seated areas for eating. The menu is on their website, and there is also a large specials menu as well. I managed to bag the last portion of slow cooked shoulder of lamb. Deliciously cooked and flavorful. Draft beer from Brill brewery. Several gins on offer.

Ate lunch at this pub as a family of five plus grandparents. Something for everyone- great menu choices and great kids options. Food was absolutely delicious and the welcome and service we had was fantastic. We’d love to visit here again if we were ever in the area and would recommend it really highly. There’s a brilliant park right opposite too which is well worth a visit. Thanks!

Went for last minute lunch/dinner and it was just such a nice place. Food was great staff were so lovely. Would definitely recommend to everyone.

We visited this lovely county pub yesterday for a meal for my dad's 87th birthday after seeing it recommend online. It was a bit further out from Aylesbury that I though but that was irrelevant as it was well worth the drive out. I had a delicious steak burger, my wife and daughter had Sunday roasts and my dad had the haddock and chips. Every single meal was spot on - my wife said the roast was the best she'd had in a very long time, the burger was great and my dad loved the fish and chips. He only has a tiny appetite these days but he demolished it and it was the most I'd seen him eat in a long time. In addition to the great food everything else was wonderful too - really nice friendly staff that made us feel very welcome, and a great location opposite a really nice children's play area. We will definitely come back here for any future family meals, it's a real gem of a place

We visited this lovely little gem of a country pub yesterday for a family meal and left incredibly impressed with both the food and the the place in general. The Sunday roasts were absolutely spot on the best my wife had had in a long time, the burger was just the ticket and perfect in every way and my dad's fish and chips couldn't have been better. This is some of the best food I've experienced in a pub in a long time. Top marks to the staff too who were very attentive and made us feel very welcome. Prices are very reasonable given the quality of the food too. It's a little bit of a trek out of Aylesbury but the food totally justifies the short journey. It's a lovely location too, with a really nice (and huge!) children's play area directly opposite the pub. If you want a lovely country pub serving excellent home cooked food then give this place a visit, you won't be disappointed.

We visited here on two occasions, one was for a Sunday Roast and the other mid week. We were very pleased on both occasions. The food was absolutely fantastic and the waiting staff were brilliant (despite being rushed off their feet on Sunday!). The owner was warm and welcoming. The pub was clean and dog friendly (which was especially excellent as we were on holiday and couldn't leave our dog in our accommodation).Would highly recommend this pub!

My daughter lives in Piddington so when we come over from Milton Keynes we always walk with the dog to the Bull and Butcher for drinks but mostly for a meal . Every visit has been excellent and just love the atmosphere and the old english styled pub in this village location.Very welcoming and as you approach this pub in the middle of winter out of the darkness it’s just the cosiest place to arrive at if you’ve just been walking for half an hour.We were their yesterday for lunch and the food was just the best and the cheesecake afters was the best this old man had ever tasted,yes that good.Love it,just wish I lived locally.Try this for a meal or just drinks,worth the drive out.

Great pub and great service from the friendly staff (bar one). The food was good and enjoyable. All in all a good eating out experience.Just a pity that one of the older staff members had strong homophobic and racial views which he aired to paying guests obviously unaware of anyone within range of the comments. This would have filled the gaps to a 5-star rating!

Popped in for a quick lunch on way home from London last Sunday. Knew the pub for many years and it has always been ok but I have to say we were very impressed with the food. Great menu choices above and beyond the usual Sunday roasts and our roast pork and chicken Caesar salad were simply perfect. Will definitely make it into our top ten goto locals. I have visited the pub many times. The staff are always cheerful and friendly, the food is very good and freshly cooked and a good selection of beer. The outside seating area is very good especially on a sunny day. The location on the village green is lovely, there is a children’s play area on the green. The view is only spoilt by the stupid no parking signs the local council has put up and I have never seen a problem with parking.

This is a 'proper pub' set looking over the village green ... totally unpretentious, very welcoming staff, decent food and drinks, lots of lovely dogs snuffling around, plenty of friendly local drinkers, authentic 'farm yard' smells hanging vaguely in the air What more could you want? Just lovely all round really!

A welcome return to The Bull and Butcher at last! It was a pleasure and a privilege to return on the first day of reopening on April 12th. James and Emily have worked so hard to work to the current government guidelines, and their hard work has paid off. This is our 3rd break away in Ludgershall and we’re only too pleased to support the local pub by visiting every night. We were welcomed back as if we were locals and felt at ease straight away. Every meal we had was just amazing and we looked forward to the next one every night. We will be back again in the Autumn. Well done to the whole team!

Lovely local pub with a great selection of food and drink. Lots of homemade pies to choose from too, I had the steak and chorizo and it was delicious. Good value for money whether with your friends or couples date.

Delicious Sunday Roast, very friendly & welcoming staff. And a great place to sit outside near a kids park and large green. Thoroughly recommend. ( Went again a week later, staff so friendly helped me move a bench all the way into the sun, again a delicious roast 😊)

Booked a table for 3pm, and was offered the choice of sitting outside or in. Sat outside as the weather was good, but they do have a large marquee too. Tables are set up for social distancing. The location is just off the village green but a secluded spot so not too noisy or overlooked. Staff were very friendly, taking our orders. Drinks arrived quickly, with a good selection available. Food was super fresh and locally sourced and tasted lush. The menu had a varied choice and was reasonably priced. Will definitely be visiting again.

We enjoyed a lovely Sunday lunch today. Delicious roasts, catered really well for the whole family with child portions and the lovely staff even boxed up a takeaway portion for my housebound Grandfather. Nothing was too much trouble. Kids loved the park out the front too!

A Sunday visit, we were seated outside under a huge canopy on a huge table to ourselves so very safe. Very friendly welcoming service and cool music playing just toe tapping loudly enough without detracting from a good chat. Menu was nice and varied for a Sunday menu and we enjoyed warm pita with homemade hummus which was just big enough to share between three. My venison bourguignon was delicious with such rich tasty gravy it was hard not to lick clean. They kindly served with new potatoes as the mash had butter and green beans. My guy had sausage and mash with a different gravy served in a mini gravy boat. The sausages were local with a subtle seasoning and meaty firm texture. His mother had spicy chicken and sweet potato fries that luckily for us she struggled to finish allow me to have a few crispy fries with that soft middle. This is a real gem of a place that whilst clearly being the only local is very welcoming to all visitors. We also leart they run a bring and buy market once a month on Saturdays with local vegetables and gift while they serve bacon butty and croissants. Check the news section on their website for details. Once we completed our meal we had a stroll around the pretty village. We will be back.

A bit disappointing. Met some friends here for lunch and it was just a bit disappointing. We were sat on a table immediately back to back with another one where you had to squeeze to get in, which I didn’t feel was great, especially with social distancing. The bar got quite busy and no one was distancing at all. The food was just okay. The ploughman’s was pretty disappointing, just a pale baguette and a bit of ham and cheese. Pie was quite dry. Ham egg and chips very average. We’ve been to so many pubs with great ploughman’s that are not hard to do and other gastro pub favourites. The staff were friendly and very helpful, that was the only saving grace really! We mainly went because the outdoor space looked good with the little play park on the green but that wasn’t enough to save it unfortunately!

Steak Burgers are fantastic. We booked a table for two for dinner on a Saturday. We both had burgers which were delicious and the home made houmous was very good too. Sadly too full for dessert.

Since the new management the food has been great, nothing fancy, just well cooked pub grub at an affordable price. The staff are very helpful and accommodating. Building is a little tired but apart from that, all good...

Top beer, food and staff. Worth the effort to deviate off the A41 as you wend your way to Bicester or Aylesbury. Probably the best Sunday roast around!
