This a great little watering hole in Criccieth. We are always made welcome and good range of beers and drinks with a great outdoor space too. We always end up chatting with fellow drinkers and learn so much about local events, nice walks and places to eat. A great pub in hear of community

We visited this little pub on the Main Street of Criccieth on a cold and rainy evening to watch a Liverpool football game. The layout is 2 rooms both with tvs and serviced by one bar. They don’t serve food , but the drinks were reasonably priced. For a while we were the only 2 customers in one side , a few what looked like locals in the other side. As kickoff neared our side started to fill up, everybody kept the coats on wonder it was bitterly cold with a side door permanently blowing open or people not shutting it properly. A trip to the gents toilet in the other room , on opening the entrance door my eyes were drawn to a roaring fire and a near full bar of customers in short sleeves or jumpers ( standing room only ). Being of a certain age and my wife recovering from a recent hip operation we couldn’t stand for the duration of a football match.so it was back to the cold. We stuck it out for the first half but unfortunately the cold won. We would definitely return …..but try and get a seat in the heat.

What a fantastic pub! A proper pub with a great atmosphere. The family who run it made us so welcome. They have “ the best Guinness in Wales “ a claim by the landlord. I’ve not been to every pub in wales but we spent all afternoon drinking Guinness there and loved every pint. Poured with care and attention and tasted great too. Thanks for a brilliant afternoon and will definitely visit again soon.

We walked into the saloon bar hoping to get drinks and food but we were ignored by the bar staff so we left.

Traditional pub with a lovely outside space. Some covered areas and a play area for the kids. Dog friendly and welcoming.

Just returned from Criccieth and found this Lovely little pub with very friendly staff and friendly locals the beer was excellent and for a football fan like me West Ham COYI ⚒️ good place as 4/5 TVs showing sport. Thank you for the hospitality and some good nights 👍🍺

After climbing to the castle we had a drink here before going into our hotel opposite. We sat in the garden enjoying glasses of lager in a very warm sunny day it was very enjoyable. Friendly staff and lots of friendly locals to talk to.

Visited here, with my 2 year old daughter. We asked if they served food told no, so we asked for any local food due to little one needing some dinner we were told there was a chip shop a few doors down.... no mention of not eating on the premises. As it was lunchtime my husband went to grab some food for our little girl and extra portion of us, as we were sat in the beer garden. No sooner had we opened the chips, we felt eyes burning and a local made a phone call, next minute bar staff flew round you can't eat in here, we don't allow locals it's a rule there is a sign. We've had 2 years of hospitality closed, equally we had a 2 year old needing lunch. If it was so much of a rule then it should be made clear but equally what a stupid rule turning away paying customers. I wouldn't recommend if you aren't local, very un family friendly no consideration to that fact we had a little one more happy they stuck to their rule than forcing us to move our little girl to the street to eat her dinner. Talk about supporting local businesses when they behave in such a way.

Following a good walk on the beach we called in here and enjoyed a few drinks before going back to our glamping pod. Friendly, good service with good selection of drinks at reasonable prices - would recommend.

Superb pub, best in Criccieth by a mile. Received a warm welcome by the landlord who was full of local knowledge and shared his recommendations of the best places to eat and visit. His staff are a credit to him too, all superb and we were greeted like old freinds on each visit. Great selection of drinks, very reasonably priced. Loads of outdoor seating. Fabulous all round! Wether local or a tourist, this is THE pub to visit when in Criccieth. Can't wait to return next year.

Great pub with a wide range of beers very reasonably priced including local real ales. Staff very friendly and good at their jobs. Not surprisingly busy with a good atmosphere. Covid compliant. Wet pub so no food. Was in Criccieth for a week and visited every night proper pub.

Popped in for a few beers and had a great reception from Maria and the landlord was very nice and put us golf on the TV. Will be back next time!

We just walked by on the opening day after a long drive from leicester. Great atmosphere outside and got hooked on the Largo beer. Great service and very reasonable prices. Went in a couple more times during the week. Happy Days

We visited this lovely Welsh pub recently and had a very nice time.The pub is totaly Covid aware on all fronts.

Called in again to watch the footy. Covid-19 measures very we’ll adhered to and new extensive covered outside seating has been added.Very good selection of beers and ales served from two separate bars and very reasonably priced. Very friendly and welcoming customers, staff and manager. Good banter, will definitely be going back

Just a beer here, nice pint if Rev James one way system in operation as per requirements and it works well here, friendly staff looking after our dogs not our frust vist and certainly won't be last

Yes well worn, but, a drinkers pub with very good ale. Friendly Landlord, dog friendly in the bar which had a real locals feel.

This has been refurbed and reopened since our last visit to Criccieth a few years ago. Nice to see it back. Lovely outside area, enclosed and safe for kids.

A twelve strong group of us stayed opposite this pub in the George Hotel (see my review on that) while walking the Wales Coastal Path. Spent some happy hours in this friendly pub, staff and locals made us very welcome.

Called in here with some local friends to watch the Rugby.. excellent welcome by all staff and regulars.. good choice of beer and some nibbles at half time too.. diolch

Visit a couple of times and we enjoyed ourselves chatting to friendly local people. Lively place in a very sleepy town, it is ideal for younger couples and older alike. Highly recommended for a fun night.

Call in while up here on hoilday had couple of local ales which were very good excellent beer garden nice pleasant atmosphere could easily wasite the afternoon away here

Nice local pub, heavily supported by the locals. A lovely atmosphere and we enjoyed our drinks in convivial atmosphere.

Friendly welcome and range of great welsh ciders in bottles along with couple of real ales on tap. We visited a few times whilst on holiday and would happily return.

Dropped in here a couple of times while on holiday in Criccieth, very nice "local", friendly locals, though I didn't understand them when they spoke Welsh !

Slow service at the bar, all tables unclean and covered in empty glasses and packets/ no one came out to clear any outside table in whole time we were there. DJ outside playing awful music and no atmosphere. Decking at back unsafe, slippy and uneven. Would not come again.

Called in a few times whilst staying in Criccieth for the week and was made to feel very welcome, lots of the locals spoke Welsh but instantly changed to English for my benefit, not needed but much appreciated! I sampled the other pubs in Criccieth but this was by far my favourite.

What a fabulous warm welcome myself & my 2 friends had when we walked into the Bryn Hir. Barman was sociable & friendly. Attentive but not over bearing. Spoke in English when needed, and was really very nice. There was a good range of spirits and beers and non-alcoholic drinks!

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Good pub with a nice range of drinks including some lovely local beers. Good outside area and what looked to be a permanent marquee in case of bad weather.

Friendly pub with a good selection of drinks. It was very quiet when we visited but this pub is a little gem in the heart of Criccieth.

This pub was recommended to us by our hosts at the Bron Aber guest house we stayed in because a builder / singer / musician was playing there. He was amazing! The pub was lovely, busy but didn't take long to get a drink and really well priced drinks! Highly recommend, we went to two pubs and this was by far our favourite!

we visited the pub on Wednesday Thursday it was busy, Friday it was very busy,saturday couldn't get in,, it must be the busiest pub ive seen in many a year

Very friendly staff and given a warm welcome, good choice of beers and lagers good prices and the Landlord / Landlady let us watch the darts on the TV all week.

Trevlig och mysig liten bar, vid bra väder finns stor uteterassen med ute tält. Ligger ut med landsvägen. Svårt med parkering direkt utanför.

6 of us had a drink here every night of our stay in Criccieth, staff were friendly and on our last visit thanked us for our business and wished us a safe journey home. Would recommend but it is an old fashioned pub and does not serve food.

Had a short break in Criccieth and my hubby adopted it as his local, well it was across the road from our hotel. The owners were really nice and their outside space is very welcoming for both humans and dogs On Saturday night they had Live Entertainment and it was lovely to listen to the singing (from my bed) what gave me a lump in my throat was that at the end of the evening everyone joined in the Welsh National Anthem !

Spent a couple of hours sitting in the outside area of this pub on a Monday afternoon. The person serving at the bar was very friendly and my lager was just right. They serve coffees too, and dogs are welcome in the outside area (I do not know about inside).

Unfortunately they don't serve food anymore, we have eaten there in the past and was good pub grub, but its a nice pub which is good value for money. Plenty of places to sit and a beer garden and terrace that are dog friendly. They show the football and its a relaxing place for an evening drink.

Brilliant home cooked food, with a good selection of gluten free options. Had to wait for a table, but defiently worth it. Unfortunately don't take bookings.

Spent a Sunday afternoon in the garden. It was a regular suntrap. Also there was a play area with masses of toys for the grandson to play with. This is the best pub in Criccieth by far.

Very enjoyable afternoons winding down after competitive golf at Morfa Nyfen, sitting in the sun, discussing the merits of nothing at all..!!

When visiting family in Criccieth we always call in for a couple. Great place and atmosphere. Place to watch football too. Worth a visit when visiting Criccieth.

In Criccieth with a coach holiday but in the evenings my husband preferred to sample real ale at this very friendly welcoming pub. A busy main bar which we chose, and a quieter lounge bar. Very busy on Darts Match night but they still welcomed and made room for two 'foreigners'.

We called in for a few beers, early doors around 4.30 on a Friday, lots of workers having a few beers.

Called in for a drink with our dog, who immediately set himself up in front of the fire in the bar where dogs are allowed. Nice beer and cider and friendly service.

Visited this pub on both nights and found it to be a good place for a few beers. One side of the bar shows sky sports predominantly ( although not in an overpowering way ) , the other side seems more for couples and families.

Popped in for a quiet drink and found this place to be quaint and has that ‘local pub’ feel. The bar man was friendly and helpful in suggesting drinks as I like to try local ale wherever I go.

Despite originally hailing from England (and some previous negative experience in North Walian pubs) we found this hostelry, besides the townspeople and people running other Criccieth businesses, exceptionally friendly, to be honest, friendlier than some of the people in the south-western Welsh town where we live. The pints - of both beer and Guinness - are reasonably-priced, too

Staff are very welcoming towards visitors. Made me feel comfortable as a solo traveller. Proper pub grub with good portion size and well cooked. The liver, mash and veg was delicious and the curry smelt good. Prices were also good. Would definitely recommend.

We called here on the off chance and didn't regret it. We walked in the door and the welcome we received was warm and friendly and loved the fact I could practice Welsh with the landlord!

Had a meal for four here. food was simple but good and was very good value. Staff were friendly and the local brew very acceptable. Pub was plainly decorated but very pleasent

Had a lovely early evening meal. Fish very tender and fresh. Burgers very tasty. You can eat both inside and outside and family friendly with a small play area.

Was on holiday at a near by caravan park and called in for lunch with my young daughter. We had a very pleasant experience.The kids menu was comprehensive and very well priced. My 5 year old was delighted and ate the lot. My dinner was grand. We ate outside as it was a hot day and my daughter had a wee play about. She enjoyed the al fresco dining. The staff member serving us was a very pleasant man. He was efficient and happy to answer a few questions about the food we wanted to order.We had no issues at all and enjoyed our time here very much.

If you want to experience an excellent pub then this is worth a visit. In the summer there is a dog friendly beer garden. In the winter the bar has a cozy open fire with a selection of real ales. The lounge can be quiet if you require some peace and quiet. There is satellite tv where a great deal of sport is screened with a jovial atmosphere. The staff and customers are friendly and makes for a pleasant pub. There is a large selection of soft drinks and a popular well used coffee machine for those who fancy a non alcoholic option.

Visited Criccieth for my partners Birthday. The pub was packed due to football on the tv. Great friendly rivalry and a roaring open fire. A small bar but really friendly. The landlord and landlady are delightful. They keep a nice pub and the beer is very well kept.

If you're looking for a bar with cocktails and suits look elsewhere. This is an old school pub. Was there while visiting Cricceith from Ireland for a few days. Small place - with 30 people in it it's crowded. None of this is a criticism. It's a lovely pub. Owner and staff (possibly family) very friendly as were the locals drinking in there. It's exactly the type of pub I like - local boozer with a lovely welcome.

We booked a table for four a few weeks ago and ended up sharing it with someone having their birthday party, along with their 15-20 guests!!The four of us, which turned out to be three in the end had an excellent evening at the Brynhir in the company of both Arwyn and Sian who apparently has only been there for the last year. What excellent hosts they both were. We don't go out very often and decided on Criccieth for the evening for a "few beers" and booked a table for 6.30 for a meal to get going. The food was good, typical bar food and was great value all round.We had such a good night at this small but very traditional pub, we are planning the next night out in a few weeks time, hopefully this will also be another good night to remember.

Often go for food with the family. Very clean and genuinely friendly. Foods great. garden is a little sun trap or in the winter the have a log fire to keep u warm. Everything you want in a pub.

Visited here for the second time with my partner, both times the food has been delicious, My partner always has the gammon with egg and pineapple which he thoroughly enjoys and I always go for the chicken in white wine sauce and mushrooms,The chips are home made and freshly cooked. And always piping hot when served. Also very polite and helpful staff. Has also got outdoor seating.

Mediocre could have been designed for this pub. Lunch time menu limited to seemingly mass produced, bought in pub food. Ploughmans was OK. Bar was empty at lunchtime so no atmosphere . I will not be going back

Called in for beer and food as new arrivals in the village for weekend break.Lovely pub with outside seating and separate garden area. Steak and Ale pie was fresh and piping hot. Good value and would go again.

My wife and me tried this pub out on a recommendation from Security at the holiday park we were staying. 100% worth it. A very warm welcome from very friendly staff in a proper little pub. The menu is brilliant, time taken to write in English and Welsh. The mixed grill is outstanding, well cooked lamb, pork, chicken, steak, that much the chips come seperate! My wife had lamb shank which she said also outstanding, fell off the bone and in very rich gravy. Good selection of beers, wines etc as well as local and cask ales. If in the area this is well worth a visit. Next time I'll be having the 32oz steak!!Good sized outside area with plenty of tables and a marquee with tables undercover. Only thing was didn't realize the pub had parking area, it's hard to see but is between the pub and the shop next door so we parked further away.

we had a lovely meal at Bryn Hir Arms, we ate outside in the Beer Garden as it was a really warm evening. The food was plentiful and well cooked.

We can only comment on the outside which is set up for not only adults but there is a children's play area safe as it is down steps from the main road. They also have bowls of water out for any visiting dogs. Very popular place

A really good old-style British pub, with great local beers, really enjoyable mates and an informal kind quick service. It is the perfect place where to relax, spend a night with friends and live the British atmosphere. The food is good too. Not so much elaborate but well prepared

Found this place to be a nice place to go for a quick drink, and it had a childrens play area , It it rained there was cover.

Thoroughly enjoyed our evening meal, food was tasty, well cooked and piping hot. Will use this Pub again.

Staying in Criccieth for a few nights we visited this pub. Quite a lively pub on a mid-week night. Looks like it has recently been refurbished. Friendly and helpful staff. A good selection of ales and a popular menu. The pub is dog friendly. There is an outside seating area. Worth a visit.

I haven't been in this pub for a few years, it's had a complete refurbishment inside and out,The meals are value for money and we had steak and chips and it was very filling and well worth the money.There is a eating area outside for the children, so no need to enter the pub apart from ordering with the children so it's less stressful. I will most defiantly be back.

Went here a couple of times for a drink and enjoyed it.Yes the place was buzzing the 1st night as Wales were playing football and yes the staff and locals were speaking Welsh among themselves but hey its in Wales its their 1st language,why should,nt they speak it.We were made to feel one of them not an outsider.Very friendly place.

I visited Criccieth for a few days during the Euros 2016 football tournament and made this my regular stop. Its a bright and airy no frills local type of pub, a good selection of beers including two locally brewed beers which I enjoyed trying. The staff were cheerful and by my last night chatty. The atmosphere during the Wales v England game was great (glad I wore my Munster rugby jersey) and during a tough Saturday for an Irishman both customers and staff cheered on Ireland in the footy and the rugby. The locals are friendly and it was great to listen to everyone chatting away in there native tongue.

Nice Welsh pub, can't say I felt comfortable here but then it is alocal pub with it's regular clients. They were were friendly enough, beer good. Beer garden if you can find a seat on a warm night.

We went on a very warm, Friday early evening and sat in the garden. Our plan was to eat here but people around us changed from speaking English to Welsh and talked across our table, shouting over to each other and glaring at us. We were made to feel very unwelcome - and we left soon after arriving.

We visited this places on the night they had a disco and bbq. Anyone was allowed to join x music was good and people had great fun l. Served quickly at the bar and a pint and glass of wine only came to £7.20 which is very cheap Compaded to other places x shame there was not veggie burgers x only one lady toilet so there was a que sometimes x hand drier didn't work. Staff where friendly. Bbq food wad quick, hot and tasty. X child friendly with toys and play area in the garden for them. X

The pub was almost empty yet it took the best part of an hour for a cheese panini. If you are not in any rush and want a basic snack then yes, if you want something a little nicer and under an hour then perhaps try somewhere else. Nice enough and all that but there are better that's all I am saying

Popped in with two small grandchildren, pub has a nice safe play area, had a sandwich, which was nicely made with good ingredients, one of our party had a ham sandwich and it was proper ham, not the thin stuff full of water, we went for the fishfinger sandwich, not classy but vey tasty, definitely a FAMILY friendly place

The beer selection for real ale is good with local ales on draught - walled beer garden great and welcoming staff
