Great crunchy batter on the fish. The chips were coated with just the right amount of salt and vinegar. Lovely staff! Very friendly!

Worst Fish and Chips we have ever had! We have travelled 8 hours to our holiday destination. Very hungry abd wanting done good fish and chips. We were told there were 3 in this area and ended up here. I wish I would have seen the reviews. It took them 25 minutes to make these disgusting non edible food. I spat the fish straight out it tasted like a thawed slightly cooked from frozen piece of waste! The chips tasted weird and both went straight in the bin. This business needs to be investigated. I will be calling the health and safety advisor on Monday morning. Please don't be robbed like we were.

Does not deserve a 1 star. Absolutely disgusting behaviour and abuse from who I believe to be the owner. DO NOT GO ANY WHERE NEAR HERE.

Browns seem to be takeaway only but the food is good, service excellent and not too expensive.

Awful. Half cold and they over charged massively. £3.50 for a small handful of chips. A 6x4 polystyrene tray where the bottom was less than half full. A real rip off. This may be in a holiday resort but don’t rip off the customers that you rely on coming back or recommendation from for future business. Won’t be going back and would tell people to steer clear

Over £40 for very below standard food. And the portions were tiny. The fish had some good pieces of batter but many parts of the fish had to be removed and thrown away . 90% of the chips were green and black and had to be thrown away. We are on holiday, spent £40 on a really really rubbish meal to feed 2 adults and 2 children and quite frankly very disappointed. I do not want any other families to have to remortgage their house to receive a pile of inedible cardboard. For £40 we got 2 x cod and chips, 1 x chips and 1 x battered sausage and chips. The amount of chips all together was not enough to feed 2 people, let alone 4, and never mind the fact they were all rotten!!

OMG 😭 been today for tea with my partner this is the worst fish and chips I’ve had the portions were also tiny ! God knows what the kids portions must be like…. Chips were not very nice and for the price paid you would expect a decent amount the fish was also small you would think with by being by the sea you would be getting something nice please avoid I won’t be wasting my money here again

This place was amazing. My friend is celiac, and as soon as we mentioned gluten-free they jumped straight on it, double checked every thing, made sure to go to a separate kitchen to cook it! The food is amazing, fresh, and perfectly presented

If you like soggy batter this is the place to go. Fish was awful, I chose not to go with the trust pilot reviews and I made a grave error. The chips were nice but portions are bad. My battered beef burger was more like a hockey puck. The inside of the shop is the most bizarre chippy I've ever seen, almost like someone's front room stripped out with a random few chest freezers for the dead bodies of previous customers. Avoid this place. The staff were friendly and polite though so there is that... I dont usually give bsd reviews but this was abysmal for £35 worth of food.

Avoid, unless you have a grudge against your palette and wallet. Or, maybe getting served by the staff from Acorns Antiques is your thing? Looked NOTHING like the online photo - was like being made to wait in a garage for our chips. Watched staff members trying to pet a customers dog that actually tried to bite them - wish I had taken the dogs advice, I’d have probably had better food if I bit the staff than I did by eating the twice-overcooked and meagre portion of chips they served.

When the most recent reviews are 1 star, I should’ve avoided. However, we did order chips, fish and nuggets from this place and the portions were tiny, the food was overcooked and just didn’t really taste that nice. Management needs to turn something around, the locals and the tourists deserve better!

AWFUL… worst fish and chips that I’ve ever had AND got overcharged, £41 and change for 3 soggy cod cooked in very used batter, undercooked chips and microwaved peas, no longer table service but a couple of tables that you could eat your takeaway. How is this place still trading 🤮

A very weird set-up that feels like it's left over from covid times but staff were lovely and helpful. The fish and chips were OK: not the best but definitely not the worst I've had. Mushy peas were a but dry and the Pukka pie was OK too. Overall, it filled a hungry hole but I wouldn't rave about it.

Paid £14 for haddock, chips, gravy and a can. Quick and polite service even when the queue was out the door. Food was lovely, a 30 second walk to the beach meant a scenic place to scran. All in, quality chippy

I would not recommend this place to anyone. I think the fish and the chips were microwaved. There couldn't be any frying going on because the interior on the other side had curtains closed because there were alterations being carried out and the frier was not being used, I could see this through the other door.

Great British food! Cannot beat good fish and chips by the seaside and these were very good.

What a little gem. The staff are fabulous. The lady on the till was super friendly. She went above and beyond finding out what was vegan and what was not. The chips were absolutely beautiful. Greeted with smiles we ordered food for 5 of us as a takeaway. Wednesday evening in July. It was cooked fresh. Two of us had just chips- and they were ok. One scampi- hard to get that wrong as it’s always cooked from frozen. One had fishcake- again fairly standard frozen . I had cod….. my cid was coated in a thick stodgy batter and consisted of what looked like 3/4 smaller pieces that probably came out of the freezer stuck together. Worst fish I’ve had.

Without question the worse fish and chips I've ever had. It was the only place open and we were starving. As it was, I got back to the car and chucked most of it. Haddock was fried to death, full of bones and grey. Chips tasted like off potato and had a bizarre taste - like they'd been fried in coconut oil! There was a brown pool of fat in the bottom of the container. Truly revolting.

2 large chips at £4.50 each. The place looked like the goonies cafe from the back of beyond but thought this would be a good sign as obviously been going for a long time. Got less chips for £9 across the 2 trays than I would have at home in Yorkshire for £2. Photos shown of what was received. Obviously exploiting tourists.

First time had food from here and last,Had fish and chips from here last week ,had to wait 10 mins to be cooked (only ones in shop) got to say worst chips I have ever had,fish was ok but chips all black and brown and burnt(looked rotten like they been in warmer all day, only reason they didn't get took back is didn't want to walk back up st goerges hill,most of the meals went in bin complete waste of money(not particularly cheap either)even took pics of chips to show them how bad but probably would of got fobbed of if went in complaining my advice try elsewhere

We have visited this chip shop every time we come here on holiday (most years). Its previously been outstanding. NOT ANY MORE. Chips were brown and hard. Fish was soggy and mushy. Batter was soggy. It went in the bin. It's overpriced. Very disappointed as its one of our holiday traditions we look forward to. We won't be going back.

Amazing takeaway. 2 sets of haddock and chips and a gluten free haddock and chips. A good selection of gluten free foods and all cooked in a separate fryer. All freshly cooked to order and large portions. Would highly recommend.

Food was very very good. One of the best fish and chips.. Came to 25-30 quid takeout for 2 cos and chips + carton of sauce each.. Cheaper than the campsite down the road but still very pricey.

Only managed to try food on a whim all through 2019 I couldn't find them open but on random day myr friend brought some fish and chips since we always used haddocks end but they have gone down hill recently there hit and miss now and I always hated pickwicks food always tatsed gross but the one time my friend shared the food and said I went to browns it was good but it was cold when he got back I want to try the whole experience for myself so I can give a higher rating

Plus side: cod is large Down sides: The batter is less than average and it smells like really dirty oil, the inside of the fish in a lot of places soggy and sticky like it's been refrozen a few times, I asked for extra salt twice and it was confirmed it had extra salt when collecting but it had almost none. And it also was quite greasy. 11.50 for an average small portion of chips and a cod that went in the bin. I tried them last year and it was meh... Average at best. Today every other place was shut so I gave them another try and it was disgusting. I wouldn't eat that even if it was free. I don't leave reviews unless it's reeeaally awful. So there you go. Try at your own risk.

I am severely disappointed by the lack of efficiency and politeness I had experienced. As well as other customers, I was forced to stand out on the pavement in the freezing cold and wait an exceptionally long time for my food. I have yet to sample the food. On arriving at Perranporth we were disappointed to find them on holiday, but understood, just a shame it wasn't on their Facebook page. When they returned I tried on various occasions to call, but the phone sounded like it was going to a fax machine. The holiday notice on the door removed, but when we arrived on our last evening, they were closed. We'd were very keen to go here as they had such good reviews for gluten free.

We have been coming to Cornwall for many years and we make sure we visit this chip shop but like most businesses through covid some survive and some don't. This one unfortunately has become a great shame. For some reason they have purchased an over sized front counter fryer that doesn't fit in the shop resulting in the customer ordering from a makeshift counter taking a numberd ticket and waiting rather than the customer coming in and eating in because for some reason they have removed all the seating. The result is a mess of a shop front that doesn't resemble anything like a proper establishment where you can eat fish and chips close to the sea. The staff are nice except for what I can only assume is the owner. Not only does she look like she's been sleeping rough but she was extremely rude. A customer made an order who was with little girl who was around 8 years old. The girl asked the horrible old woman how they cook the fish. To my astonishment she raised her hand ✋️ up to her and spoke in a really loud voice "IM BUSY"!!! Can't you see we are busy! Then stood around watching her staff work hard with her hands on her hips and watching the money roll in. As you can imagine the little girl lost her smile then and went and stood back near her mum. If we hadn't already paid for our meal I think I would have chucked it all over her! In future we will make sure we will order from the chip shop that's close to the main car park or wait till we get home. The queue is longer but I can only imagine the foods better. I have heard that the other chip shop sells the best chips in Perranporth!(Sorry but NO stars) and we will not be visiting again.

2 cod and chips, 1 gluten free cod and chips. All beautifully cooked (white fish, no bones). Portion size of both the fish and chips ample. Long wait (30 minutes) but well worth it.

We visited here this evening. Queued for nearly an hour (first to order, then a long wait to collect). When we received the fish and chips we were very disappointed - lots of the chips were hard and small bits, the fish was sadly lacking in fish, and the salt and vinegar missing. It's a shame because this used to be a good shop.

Friendly, great Fish and Chips and gluten free no trouble any day they are open. They are so good that every time we come to Cornwall we make sure we visit at least once and sometimes twice. Reasonable price too.

Cod was unskinned and had at least half a dozen bones in it. The batter was thick soggy undercooked, completely flavourless and acted as a sponge to absorb all the grease and fat. It just tasted of greasy flour. Chips were a greasy soggy mush. That poor fish died in vain and I was left poorer and hungrier. It was inedible and ended up in the bin. Just a tip, I would be suspicious of one word reviews. Absolutely no excuse.

After reading all the reviews of fish and chips shops In Perranporth we knew this was the one we had to try, and it didn’t disappoint The fish was so fresh, the batter was lovely and the chips were yummy, couldn’t fault anything Jumbo sausage and fish cakes also excellent!! 5* chip shop!!

Nipped into browns fish and chips as got told it’s the best chippy in perranporth. Glad I’m not a local, went and ordered 2 portion of chips, battered sausage, mushy peas, gravy & curry sauce. We waited between 20-25 minutes, which I didn’t mind as I’d been told it’s the best chippy so I was assuming it was all going to come out piping hot. I was wrong, the chips were Luke warm at best and dry, mushy peas and gravy tasteless, curry sauce like water. The battered sausage was nice and hot and tasted ok, but after waiting over 20 minutes for very poor standard of food it didn’t do it justice. If I had only wait 5 mins and got this standard of food it’s understandable, not after 20/25 mins though Won’t recommend/won’t return

We used takeaway service, order taken in doorway and paid for beforehand, ticket given by lady on the door.(covid 19)We didn't wait long for food, as staff had a good system of fulfilling orders. There's a small carpark which is free for one hour near the shop it has a few bays if popping by car.Food was lovely,staff member was friendly. There is a sit down cafe aswell as the takeaway🥪.

Got home with my chips and curry sauce to find 2 of the smallest portions of chips I have ever seen. I always go to brown's but not any more. For £9.20 I got a small curry sauce and 2 jumbo sausage and a grand total of 34 chips in the 2 portions of chips added together.

Excellent freshly cooked chips and the fish tasted superb, as if straight off the boat. They do pea fritters too. Recommended.
