Do not bother going here. Went for a walk and Sunday dinner at the brothers water arms. Unfortunately the heavens opened and got worse. Admittedly we were wet on arrival but we’re met with queue of people frantically derobing and a mainly empty pub. Being half way up a fell next to a campsite you would expect them to welcome damp walkers and campers. Asked for a table but told it was probably full despite most tables and seats being unoccupied. Overheard the owner complaining everyone was soaking wet today and was eventually asked if we were dry. After pointing out it’s the lakes and its raining was begrudgingly offered the smallest table in the room whilst being looked at like pieces of dirt and not spoken to. We opted to leave after some rude and inconsiderate words and treatment, my young son very upset and left in the cold and wet while dad marched to the car for 20odd minutes. The outside area was full of similarly disappointed whaifs and strays who also mistook a Lakeland fells use pub as a friendly place for campers and hikers - it isnt… Hopefully the owners give up and move on, we won’t be going back until they do. Very rude awkward and unwelcoming I hope they have no success at all with their terrible attitude.

Stayed at the adjacent campsite and tried to book a table on two separate evenings. Both times we were told no tables were available but when we visited tables were empty. We tried to get drinks and were told by the barman that we could not drink them inside as there was no room. The attitude of this guy was disgusting and I would not waste my money with this establishment. Avoid like the monkey pox. The bloke is a complete plonker.

8 of us stayed B and B for a mountain walking weekend. Excellent warm and comfortable accommodation in a traditional Lakeland pub, a rarity these days of spa and gastro premises. We also went on a recommendation from the place we were staying at. We booked a table and I recommend this as it gets busy. All of the staff were very friendly and the service was great. We had the pie, chips and veggies and it was delicious (vegetables cooked perfectly) It was so good we came back the next night and the burger and the fish & chips were also excellent. Good quality Good value pub food.

Went on a recommendation from the place we were staying at. We had to book a table and I think this is normal now as they do get busy, which for me is fine and adds to the atmosphere if a busy place. Arrived 15 minutes early and shown straight to table as it was ready. The view up to the mountains was lovely. The staff were very good with excellent service. Our food was good quality honest pub grub and tasted very nice. We would give this another go certainly

We stayed on the camp site & on our first evening called for a drink or two. We were told that unless we had booked a table to eat we would have to sit outside. It was raining hard & very cold with the covered areas already occupied. In fact, that night there was one of the worst storms in a long time so we wanted to sit inside. Not a chance unless we came back after 8pm (ish) when food service had ended. As it wasn’t even 7pm we declined. We pre-booked a table for the next evening and we were shown to our table straight away by the very nice staff. The starter menu wasn’t to our taste so we ordered mains. The plates arrived in around 5 minutes so it couldn’t have been cooked from fresh although it tasted very nice. Sadly the chunky chips were oven chips though. The cask ales were well pulled.

They need to sort the pub, the booking system left allot of customers frustrated. We had to drive to Glenridding for a meal, the bar appears to be a restaurant now, had to sit outside in the cold to have a drink even though it was 1/2 empty. They used to do a fantastic breakfast, no more. Spoke to a few other customers who felt the same. Disappointed, won't return until they sort this. Used to be a favourite of mine.😡

After staying on the campsite decided to eat at the pub. Ordered gammon. When it came I noticed a pungent smell from my plate. I cut into the gammon and tasted it. Rancid it was obviously off. Well told the waitress who was very nice. She said she had no idea what it should smell or taste like. Was offered Cumberland sausage. Which when arrived smelt just the same. So as not to avoid any more embarrassment I put it into a napkin and placed it in the bin on leaving. The chef came to me saying it was because the gammon was not well done and he’d check all the other pieces in the kitchen and they where fine. So nothing to worry about. I would suspect a drastic meat storage problem I’m the kitchen. Left the campsite following morning. Spent the last two days in bed with food poisoning. ☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️

We came to the restaurant for a nice meal after a long walk. The pub had brilliant views, but that is probably one of the only good parts of it. The first thing I noticed was that we were given a lovely seat by the window overlooking the mountains, but the windows were filthy and covered in grime. We ordered our drinks and as soon as they arrived it was very noticeable the beer was cloudy. We called over someone to ask about it and all we got was an apology and were told it was just because it was the end of the barrel. I am vegetarian and normally don't eat at places with not much vegetarian options, but since it was close to where we were staying I thought I would give it a go. My tofu burger arrived and it looked alright to begin with, but then I took a bite and discovered that the bread was very stale, and the tempura tofu hadn't been marinated or drained. We ended up taking home the tofu and cooking it ourselves better. Wouldn't recommend.

I've been here several times in the past for food and have stayed on the campsite a few times.Previous visits the food has been decent pub grub, nothing to get excited about but reasonable enough and not too badly priced for the Lakes. This last visit the food was very disapponting. My girlfriend and I both had the venison Casserole. Venison is usually a very lean meat but somehow half the pieces of meat were riddled with fat. You couldn't cut the fat off as they were as much fat as meat, and it was hard grissley fat.The less fatty pieces were edible but very dry.I had a Venison casserole in the Cairngorms a few weeks ago for the same price and it was divine, beautiful tender meat that pulls apart as it should do.The place itself is nice but due to the extortionate tent camping prices and poor food, it will be some time before I give Sykeside another chance, if at all.

Let's not forget you aren't just rating one person when you visit a pub/hotel like this one! Camped at the attached site (Sykeside Camping Park). The pub is very friendly, serves a good selection of beers and the food is fabulous - especially after a long days' walk when you can't be bothered cooking over the gas! Venison casserole with sweet potato chips highly recommended.Dogs welcome, as are kids.

After a lovely walk from Patterdale and along the side of Brotherswater, it is always nice to have a well earned pint of well-kept cask ale.

Over the years we have always stopped to have a meal and a drink. On this visit we booked a room for the night. The bedroom was very clean and tidy. In the evening we enjoyed a top class meal, washed down by a choose of real ales. Fantastic views from the bar area. We hope to return soon.

A great choice, plenty to choose from on the menu, wonderful portions too, after a starter and main we had no room for dessert.

Stayed at Brotherswater Inn on a Travelzoo deal & was not disappointed. Very large car park. Nice large patio area It's a typical walkers B&B. Room was fine, nice comfy double bed, shower room could have been made a little bigger but no problem. The restaurant & bar are where it comes into it's own. Great views up to Dove Crag. Ordered evening meal, food was really great value & a very good selection of real ales. Nice to have conversation with other like minded people. Great breakfast. We would return & pay full normal tariff. In fact 4 of us will be there next week in our own 4 berth en-suite bunkhouse. Looking forward to that

Following a wet and windy walk, we stopped at Brotherswater Inn for lunch. The jacket potato with tuna was yummy. My boys enjoyed warm beef paninis and a blt with chips The tea was piping hot and we enjoyed sitting by the welcoming log burner. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Stayed overnight at this cosy inn in a breathtaking location- on the edge of Kirkstone Pass - we arrived in a blizzard and the journey was a little nerve wracking- however well worth it - the inn has warm fires - cosy atmosphere and good beers but what was particularly outstanding was the staff who were really friendly and couldn't do enough- a lad from Plymouth working there was really great at customer service - in addition the food was amazing lovely lamb leg in the evening and brilliant breakfast in the morning looking at a view the could have been the Alps, pics don't do it justice at all!!! Bedroom was not huge but super clean and cosy with wifi if needed Overall brilliant way exceeded our expectations - thank you

We recently visited the lake district in our motorhome when we came across this public house with an adjacent campsite . what a find. We first booked in and then parked up on the campsite. We returned to the pub for something to eat. The place was very welcoming and warm . The staff couldn't do enough to make us welcome . We ordered some food. There were four of us two had ribeye steaks delicious cooked just as we wanted them . The ladies had fish and chips again delicious. All very reasonably priced. If you are visiting this area of the lakes near Patterdale call in you won't be disappointed. Beautiful scenery surrounds this excellent pub. We will defineatley go back . They also cater for gluten free allergies.

We enjoyed a visit to the botanical gardens & decided to stop in to their cafe /restaurant for a bite to eat I must say that the views were stunning looking out onto the gardens , we were lucky enough to get a table on the veranda where a local choir were singing & it made our day The food menu is quite limited but there were a nice selection of cakes available & lots of unusual teas too The food we did order was delicious .. but they were small portions for the price ( I must admit it was one our most expensive eats while on the isle of wight!) All in all a great setting to enjoy a cup of tea & drink but maybe wouldn’t go back for food

This is a great 'out of the way' place to stop and have a quick bite to eat or drink, the cafe is set in the grounds of the abbey and there is seating inside and out. A lovely location on any day. There is a small menu of food available. Plus homemade cakes and hot drinks

From the outset the bar staff were friendly and helpful and could not be faulted the food was exquisite and the portion sizes were just right , the value for money was spot on.
