Drove from Exeter to have breakfast on Sunday morning. Glad we arrived early as it obviously gets busy. Excellent coffee and freshly made breakfast. Cinnamon toast was delicious. Cannot recommend this place highly enough lovely atmosphere and great service

Gem of a Find What an excellent place for breakfast! We both had cooked breakfast. Beautifully presented and extremely tasty. Big portions too. Yes it is a little pricer than some of the other cafe’s in Budleigh Salterton but the cooked breakfast here is much superior! We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast here and in fact, will be going back this morning and tomorrow, our last breakfast in Budleigh Salterton.

All 4 of us enjoyed a yummy breakfast. The hash browns were a nice addition. Good sausage & bacon. Shame they’d run out of sourdough, but the granary replacement was good. The yoghurt & homemade granola was a sharing size and came with choice of toppings.

We came here as a family to celebrate my birthday. We have been here many times before so knew what to expect. Friendly staff, a cool, relaxed vibe, and AMAZING food! We were a party of 5 so between us we tried a lot of the dishes. I hade the crab cakes, followed by the hake but I also tried the beef and the lobster. All were just incredible. The deserts were very good too. Just amazing food, that is well presented and really good value. We will be back!

Popped into Budleigh for a walk by the sea, a browse of the shops and lunch on a Saturday. Parked at the top of the town and while strolling to the shops we saw this place on the corner, it was full, always a good sign, checked the lunch menu and decided to return to have lunch. Upon our return, just after 12 noon the place was almost empty, so, easy to find a table. The waitress informed us that the dish my wife intended to have was unavailable, undeterred we found an alternative, along with a pot of tea. Our lunches arrived after a short wait, and a few more people came in for drinks. The food looked very colourful and was well presented, having said that I thought that my mackerel fillet looked a bit small and not quite the main meal we were looking for. My wife’s roasted Mediterranean salad however was quite sufficient. The food contained some wonderful flavour combinations and was far better quality than in many places we have eaten. So I think that what we had was expertly conceived, prepared and presented and was very enjoyable to eat, despite the size I thoroughly enjoyed my mackerel and will happily return when we are in Budleigh again.

We stopped for lunch on a lovely sunny Sunday. It took a while for our order to be taken but we weren’t in a rush. We both opted for the goats cheese sandwich with fresh figs and rocket. It was very rested as were the leaves and dressing that it was served with. There’s larger meals available for lunch and an interesting dinner menu which we look forward to trying

We hadn't been to Brook Kitchen for a while and were delighted by what we found. It was excellent!! The atmosphere was casual, as one would expect of an Art Cafe, and there was live music, but the food was way above cafe. The menu was interesting, with enough choices for everyone to be happy. The food was beautifully presented and delicious. Three stand-out dishes were the clams in miso soup, curried cod and the gorgeous panna cotta with cardamom. The service was relaxed and friendly. Based on my experience, I would rate this as the best place to eat in Budleigh. It's just a shame that it is only open for dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings.

On a wet miserable morning in February we happened across Brook kitchen for breakfast. It was also pancake day, so had to order American pancakes, 1 with maple syrup the other banana & blueberries. I was expecting shop bought packet ones. What arrived were steaming hot freshly made fluffiest saucer size deliciousness . Lashings of fruit & syrup. The coffee was hot and perfect. Servers were all polite and service quick. Highly recommend here

We had a wonderful meal at Brook Kitchen to celebrate a birthday. The starters and main courses were all sensational. A combination of imaginative dishes ( vegan, vegetarian, fish and meat ) all cooked to perfection with a range of delicate and exotic flavours and all at very reasonable prices. Helpful and friendly staff make it a place well worth visiting and the art a great backdrop . Brook Kitchen is quite simply a delight.

I really like this restaurant. It's a cafe by day, but with a bar in the evening, sometimes music and always art. There is a nice atmosphere in the building, with the various current artworks on display. The food is very good and excellent value when you consider the quality. We had grilled plaice and grilled bream, which it is unusual to find on a small cafe menu. Service is brisk and attentive. We have visited a few times now and it always seems to be busy, which must be a good sign

Brook Kitchen is one of the most uniquely creative and interesting places I’ve eaten in a long time. It is on first appearance a beautiful little coffee shop but if you hang about long enough or visit more than once like I have you’ll understand that it’s quite a bit more. Last year I was at a folk / Americana performance from one of the members of the Fritillaries which was incredible. I also come for coffee or a turmeric latte (I know it’s pretentious I don’t like the fact I like it but it’s really good). Last Friday I came for dinner with friends and had the most amazing assortment of small unique plates ranging from Korean pork to braised cabbage with truffle it was a total pleasure. Oh yeah I forgot to mention it’s also an art gallery with some amazing ever changing exhibitions - seriously what’s not to love and it’s free to get in. Will be back in October to see what’s new

Having previously chanced our arm at a Friday night Tapas table and been throughly impressed we went back to check it wasn’t a fluke. Despite being only a month later it was a totally different menu but equally delicious. Going for the pescatarian choices, we were blown away by the cabbage of all things. Being a unashamed people watcher I wanted to tell everyone to order it and was gutted to see nobody else was - integrated with a turnip purée it was DELICIOUS. Service was fab, casual, polite, and prompt. House rose was brilliantly drinkable and all for little over £50. We will be back and am happy that there is a destination restaurant back in Budleigh…

Gingerbread house cafe is a lovely local coffee/breakfast/lunch spot on the high st, just up from the beach. I recently ordered a cream tea for two box to be delivered to my mother for her birthday as I live far away. She loved it, it was fresh and delicious and included sandwiches, scones, clotted cream and all the fixings, and she couldn’t have been happier to be surprised on her birthday with a friendly face and a special delivery. They are also very active in the community and offered free lunches for school kids during Covid. A great cafe!
