Can’t believe there’s negative reviews on here for Britz, they're the best fish and chips in the area. Been going there for years, never had a bad experience.

asked for a large chips when I got home had a kids size terrible for the price the girl that did our order her hair was all hanging down and not up properly for a food establishment and seemed like she didn't want to be there had I checked the food before I left I would have got my money back won't be back again

I have only just read the reviews for Britz and I was very surprised. I have been going there for takeaway fish an chips now once a week for about 2 years as my very elderly parents love them, only from there, and it’s quite a trek from Laverstock. We always have two large cod and Mum and I share one. Every week they comment on how lovely the fish is, and they are discerning! The chips and mushy peas are absolutely fine. We share a standard chips and there’s always seriously too many for three of us. The staff are friendly but I recognise that they work very hard and often are really busy. On that point, why are they so busy if they’re not good?

If I could give it 0 stars I would have. Food poisoning been sat on the toilet at work all day and then at home. I was throwing up. I won't be ordering from there first and last time

Went for breakfast at 10 am we’re not open the staff were very rude and a abrupt I would strongly advise not to use and also the manager had no customer service

The other reviews say it all really. Poor quality and badly cooked fish and chips with mushy peas that were so dried out they were inedible. The staff seemed completely indifferent to their order number system and 5 people who came in after me got served ahead of me. There was no hint of an apology for keeping me waiting when I pointed out that I hadn't received my simple order. Avoid!

Thought I would give this place a try as it's supposed to be an award winner. What a let down, I only ordered chips to take away. Having driven 2 minutes to get home, I opened the parer to find a portion of tepid vastly under cooked pale chips. The potatoes were of poor quality, very unappealing to look at. I would definitely not recommend this place.

This was a very bad experience. Our order was not listened to. For example we ordered 3 chicken burgers with no cheese and no lettuce. We got a normal burger with lettuce and cheese. (MY BROTHER CANT HAVE CHEESE!). NOT the first time. Also the members of staff on arrival were all standing around chatting and I had to try very hard to get their attention. NOT GOOD ENOUGH 👿

Where do I start?? Fish was rubbery, batter was dark and dripping with fat. It looked like it had been refried. Pea fritter was a mass ball of mushy peas with a light barely there covering of batter. Chips were not cooked. Never again!!! Please do not waste your money here.

Thought I would give this place a try . Well it was the first time and will certainly be the last.The fish was greasy ,the batter was soggy and the chips were congealed and squashed together. Worse fish and chips since the discovery of sliced bread.

Have just had our order from Britz fish and chip shop. The chips were cold and raw and then my husband found the longest black hair stuck to the chips!! So disgusting. Avoid at all costs!!!

Just bought a couple of portions of chips - very disappointed when I got home to find they were hard and uncooked - needless to say both portions went straight into the bin !!!

I keep giving this fish and chip shop a go, because despite it being the worst fish and chips in Salisbury, it’s convenient and they offer delivery options. But going in there is the worst experience you could possibly have, the staff are miserable. I’m fully aware it can’t be the most exciting job in the world, but you did choose it, so please try to at least pretend you want to be there. The fish is so so greasy and the portion sizes are very small. Unfortunately like everything in Salisbury, there aren’t any truly great alternatives, so I assume they don’t even bother trying. If you’re happy to travel, I’d recommend giving any other fish and chips shop a try first.

How this place remains open baffles me. I suppose they rely on people like me who have just been and not previously read the reviews. Cold chips and fish like rubber, obviously left on the side for ages. Staff who look like they couldn’t care less. Do yourself a favour, avoid at all costs!

Ordered a large portion of chips and 2 milkshakes , got home opened the chips and there was a measly 21 chips , that’s right 21! Half of which were chip ends , they were cold by the time I got home which is a 3 minute drive away , honestly disgusted by how places like these exist and going on previous reviews surprised the place is allowed to still be open , avoid avoid avoid

We ordered 2 standard fish, 1 large chips.. Chips were not cooked in the middle!!!.. Fish was undered cooked & translucent & batter was not cooked also.. Absolutely disgusting... Save your £ on something else.. Next day both had bad stomach!!! (wtf) never ever again!!!

Este chippy es eficiente y fácil de estacionar al lado. Lamentablemente, el pez lo bajó. El mío claramente había estado sentado durante algún tiempo y, aunque pedí un bacalao grande, lo que vino estaba lejos de ser grande y muy seco. Pensé que podría ser una excepción, así que volví a intentarlo y tuve un problema de calidad similar.

Usé Britz hoy por primera vez, y será la última vez. Me sirvieron como entrada, hice mi pedido y lo pagué usando el sistema sin contacto, tuve que quedarme afuera y esperar a que uno de los miembros del personal me diera la comida una vez que estuvo lista (¡virus Covid y todo eso!) . Bien. . . Esperé, esperé y esperé hasta llegar a un punto en el que a otros clientes les estaban dando su pescado y patatas fritas mucho después de que yo había pagado el mío. Le pregunté al personal por qué estaban atendiendo a los clientes que vinieron mucho después de mí, su respuesta fue que habían perdido mi recibo aunque podían verme claramente a través de la ventana de vidrio esperando y esperando, por qué la chica que me atendió no podía recordar mi pedido no era como si estuvieran empaquetados. Very slow service with order being wrong and no sense of urgency despite the customers waiting, staff rude surly and generally not interested.

It is our nearest so we keep returning to this chippy thinking it will be better next time...but it never is. We have tried various dishes and they are all way overpriced and considerably smaller than advertised. A large chips is a tiny chips and deliberately so as they are now measured out, something we just noticed recently! But if we know this in advance we can make a decision as to whether we will buy them or not. What we cannot accept is that the ones we bought were not only overpriced and minuscule but had obviously either been sat around for hours or reheated from earlier. They were like chewing through greasy tree bark. This is not an experience we will be attempting again. I rarely leave reviews but the consistency of the dire tiny expensive food we get served from here has driven me to it. I will be driving a bit further to Bremerton Heath from now on.

just tried Britz for the first time, as we are local and trying all the Chippies slowly. Absolutely awful. A large haddock and chips was barely enough to feed a small child, both the chips and the fish were completely tasteless and unfulfilling. A complete rip off, please avoid!!!!!

I’d travel miles for good fish and chips. Britz is on my doorstep, but I won’t go there again. Ordered large haddock and chips which had to be cooked specially. Waited ten minutes, but noticed that when my fish arrived, it was dropped between drainer and counter and broke in half. It was nevertheless recovered (minus half it’s batter), and wrapped up and handed to me. I was astounded, but the shop was crowded and I left without questioning was had just happened. When I reached home I could see that the reason for the fish disintegrating was that it was a very meagre and flat fillet. Chips were covered in black eyes and most unappetising. My London based daughter who was with me was gobsmacked by the whole exercise.

Decidí comer aquí la semana pasada. 2 comidas para niños, salchichas y patatas fritas, pastel de pescado y patatas fritas - 18. Lo que obtuve fue de 10 chips cada uno, una torta de pescado seco y una salchicha grasosa. Honestamente, digo que es el peor chippy en el que he estado.

Small chips... not only tiny portion, but they were not edible. Luke warm and all soft. Pea fritter batter tasted old. It was my first visit. Won’t go again. £4.80 for that was not cheap either.

Ordered a takeaway and recieved the smallest portions I have ever seen! The picture was a large portion if chips at nearly £3.50! I am not a big eater but the amount of money spent on a piece of cod the size of a fish finger and a "large" portion of chips could of been forgiven if it tasted nice. Will go elsewhere in future!

The staff here are really nice and helpful. The fish and chips are among the best in Salisbury. They will double fry the chips if you ask them.

What a disappointment. I called in to buy an OAP lunch of fish and chips for my dear Auntie in Wilton plus mushy peas. As you walk in I was met with a screaming child. ( not a customers) and though I was the only customer I was ignored. The mother of the child was behind the service counter. That same child cried whilst waiting for my order. I’m just glad I didn’t stay to eat in. The meal in itself was awful, cold and looked as if the dregs from the bottom of the chip pan had been served. The fish was no better. I had to heat it in the oven before I could dish up.

I never thought that the character of Vicky Pollard in the hit Little Britain TV series was based on a real person. But after visiting this establishment, I think she's for real and now goes under the title of, Assistant Manager.

One thing about Fish and Chips is that they don't travel well when wrapped up due to the amount of steam generated to make everything limp and so to eat in at Britz usually means you eat them at their best.

Under cooked greasy chips, tiny portions at high prices and just everything so greasy to the point the paper falls...

I saw that Britz is on deliveroo so I thought I would give it ago. I'm so glad I did, it arrived on time food hot taste amazing definitely going to order again

My child has a gluten free allergy so when we want fish and chips we struggle to find somewhere to go a friend told me Britz can griddle any fish I thought great so we decided to try it when we went in i got welcome with a friendly hello and I got my child a kids griddle cod meal which came with a drink and they have an offer where they get a free bucket and spade only took about 5 minutes and we got our food to take away we are definitely coming back to eat in.

The food is incredible and the customer service was excellent made my family feel very welcome and I would highly recommend the haddock as it's light crispy batter is to die for as well as chips would recommend you eat here and I grantee you will be going back for seconds

I come here when I'm in Salisbury as it's the best breakfast around friendly staff free bread and butter as well as a free tea or coffee what else could you want

I use Britz every lunchtime and I must say the food is nice good customer service friendly staff always give a warm welcome and if I'm at home I can now order through deliveroo which is a bonus

Had fish and chips to takeaway and was not impressed one bit. I live 5 mins away by car and even in this short time everything was stone cold. The chips were mainly just bits and oddments, as if they were the dregs that were left. The fish batter looked like it had been overcooked and not crispy. I did then put everything in microwave, apart from it warmed food up, I found the next best stop for it all was the bin

Chips are chips, they don't cost much to make and they're hard to get wrong, these guys are charging £1,90 for a small tray of chips, no piling it up in anyway either, and calling it standard. Literally a scoop and a half of chips. It's mental. The sausage was gooey, probably the lowest meat content I've ever had in a sausage and they have only Heinz 30p a squirt sauces. Avoid like the plague.

We have eaten here many times over the years. The fish is always fresh with a light crispy batter, the chips are always perfectly cooked. Bread and butter is given free. With perfect pot of tea , giving two cups per person and a small pot of mushy peas the cost is just under £10 per person. The meal is always served quickly and on spotless tables. Despite the parking spaces being limited, we always manage to find a space. My only criticism is that the portion size has reduced whilst the price increased. A few times I have found my husband being served a large fish whilst I am served a smaller one. Yet we ordered and paid for the same meal. This does not stop me going back because the food is so freshly cooked! They offer pensioners and children's rates for those wanting a smaller meal. When it's this good it is hard to want or take up that offer!

The food was very tasty and the staff are very friendly. I had some car problems and they leet my son and I hangout there till we were recovered. Very good food and friendly staff will visit again on my next trip to England.

Went after the cinema @ 2130 with friends. Food was cooked to order & worth the wait. We ordered Standard Cod & Haddock. Both had a light crispy batter and were nice and thick, moist and fresh tasting. Chips were great and an adequate portion, mushy peas were good and was a generous portion. Much better than the soggy stuff you can get from other local chippies. Staff were polite and friendly even though they were closing shortly. Only comment would be, we were not allowed to eat in even though we checked opening times prior to going, stating they closed @ 2200. Must remember on next visit!

Because of traffic problems I decided to opt for fish and chips nearer home. Never again Britz are the best, cheerful friendly service and the freshest of fish, well cooked served with plenty of tasty chips.

I use Britz regularly and always order two large cod and chips for my wife and I. Have found that a normal portion of chips is more than enough for two. Service is always polite and rapid. Fish is excellent and chips fresh. Prices are comparable with others in the area.

i eat here most weeks and the food is always of an excellent quality. the staff are always friendly. the place is always clean and tidy. i would recommend this establishment to anyone.

Well I what can I say other then foul and disgusting and the customer service is appalling food is overpriced and the portion size of a large chips which was told would feed a family of 4 maybe a family of ants they were dry and inedible and the sausages were dried out like they had been up there all day the attitude from the older staff towards the young is appaling and disgraceful never will I be going hear again !!!

The always friendly staff deliver traditional fish and chips minus the news print quickly at a reasonable price. It is the only place I go to for a pea fritter while I am in Salisbury.

Drive on by!! Seriously if I'd known how awful it was I'd have carried on! The chips were a funny off brown colour & the Battered sausage was so dry from sitting under the hot plate that it wasn't edible. If not so tired id have asked for a refund! It looks like they are still claiming to be Wiltshire's best chip chop... A joke in itself

I have been a number of times and have never been disappointed. The fish and chips is always a good option, guaranteed to sustain. The fish is tasty and the chips never soggy.

We thought we would go for a walk and treat ourselves to a chippie tea. After giving our order we sat and watched people come and go with their food for around twenty minutes. when our food was ready they wrapped it and bagged it without asking if we would like salt and vinegar so I had to ask them to unwrap it in order to add some. Considering the portions were so small I would say the food was well over prices. My 6 year old grandson was so hungry after finishing and we had to stop at the garage on the way home and buy him more food. The chip shop I would normally go to charges 30p less for a portion of chips and you get around the equivalent of four portions to Britz for your money. Absolutely appalled. Will never go there again and will make sure I tell everyone I know about our experience.

Having had this chippy a few times due to being so close. I have always been disappointed. But tonight's visit takes the biscuit. Undercooked chips gave me that unwelcome sick and greasy feeling. So many more better chippys in town, bedwin street being the best by a country mile. Freshly cooked, winner every time!Do not eat here.

Depends what you order, the best for me is to order jumbo cod&chips and you always get it fresh made.Excelent food!!

This is the best fish and chip takeaway in Salisbury. I suspect somebody has put a terrible review on because they have a personal grudge against the owner or staff. We come from the opposite side of Salisbury to get our Fish and chips. I have had bad service in other places but never here.

Hi all,I am a Salisbury resident of 15 years and have been eating out around the area for the same amount of time. While traveling and working in places like Canada, America and all sorts of other places, I developed a penchant for eating breakfast out. Now I am retired and have much more free time but less money, the posher places where you expect excellence and pay for it are off the menu. So, being that I do not like to deprive myself of pleasures, I went on the hunt for a great breakfast at a reasonable price. You would think this an easy task seeing as Salisbury is a tourist destination and one thing tourists love is the famous English fry up.There are a number of contenders in town and I have eaten at them all. None of them were/are consistent in the delivery of a quality breakfast place and my hope of finding something was waning fast. Then, 6 months ago, I happened to stop at a Coop to get some milk and noticed Britz Fish and Chips Diner right next door. I like a bit of fried fish too so made a note to look at the menu on the way past. Low and behold there in front of me like a choir of angels was the Britz breakfast. The very next day i got up early and made sure to go in and try.I could not have been more surprised or happy to find the place clean, comfortable and all the staff welcoming and friendly. I live with Bi Polar affective disorder and it can be difficult for me to interact with people but not so here, they are lovely. The breakfast choice is in the traditional and unfortunately for those who are strict about healthy eating is FRIED PROPERLY!!!!! ;) As such you can order it cooked to your liking. In the 6 months I have been a customer there have been a number of chef changes. An issue for me as I don't like things to change when I find something good. However, this diner has found a way to maintain a consistent high quality in the delivery of what is probably one of many peoples favourite dishes no matter who is cooking it. This can be no easy task as in the 20 years I have been eating out I have not found, from the poshest to the roughest, any other restaurant that can do it.My hat is well and truly tipped to you and may you continue with this success. Oh and don't change!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

Good Quality Fish and Chips and Brilliant Customer Service. We ate in and you got Bread and Butter and it was a lovely atmosphere.

Found the staff to talk to each other very rudely, in a bullying way especially to the younger members of staff. I felt very sorry for them. After watching the staff while i ate i noticed that a couple of the older members of staff stood around and did nothing while the younger members didn't seem to stop. I personally wouldn't want my child working there. As for the food i couldn't fault it, especially the chips although you don't get much for your money. Would i go here again? Food wise- yes, but how i felt as it made me uncomfortable - no.

I was craving fish and chips. So we stopped on the way home to Britz. We ordered fish and chips and chips, sausage and fishcake. We paid, got our order and drove home. After opening up the bag, what a disappointment. The portions were very small as if ordering for a child. The fish batter was soggy, chips were gritty?( very disgusting, like sand?) all in all I wasted £12 as it went in the bin. I phoned up and I could either return it and get a refund or another one. I think I heard a guy in the background say I should have checked it first. Absolutely appalling and shocking and will never go there again.

Our take-away fish and chips ended up in the bin, the fish was mainly batter and the chips were dried up and stone cold. Had we dined in they would have been sent back, totally unacceptable!

I live very local to britz and have used them a huge amount of times. I've never really had bad chips and I regard them as one of the nicest around. HOWEVER, the cost is now to much because even my wife can eat large chips and still be hungry. Portion size to cost is a big issue. So I'm now using wilton Chinese as they do chips as well. Up the size of the portions and your get my business back.

A quiet Night and we fancied some Fish and Chips and as Britz had been recommended a few times thought we would give it a try. Big mistake. I ordered a large Cod and chips as I wanted it freshly cooked but imagine my surprise when a few moments later I was called to the counter with my order already bagged. No asking how much salt and vinegar I wanted! The supervisor told me that as the large cod was a bit small she had given me two pieces. When we got home it was as I had feared 2 miserable pieces of dried up skinny Cod and undercooked chips. And to cap it all off it was cold. Without a doubt the worst food and service I have ever experienced in a fish and Chip shop. I will be reporting to trading standards as I was sold a Large Cod with no intention of ever serving me one and I did not receive one.

I work in Salisbury and go to Britz with work colleagues fairly regularly for lunch. The food is always served very quickly despite mainly being cooked fresh to order. Staff are friendly and helpful - always seems to be well run and organised. Prices are reasonable for quality of food and portions served. Cannot think of any negative points! Would recommend to all.

My wife and I decided to get fish and chips for tea one evening from this place, soggy fat soaked chips and fish that was rank - never again.

We love this chippy and always call in on our way to the Isle of Wight from Southampton for a meal in the diner. We wish it was our local chip shop as the chips are lovely, really well cooked and not a bit greasy or soft like some of the ones close to us in Somerset. The chicken is perfectly cooked too and although I am on a gluten free diet and can't have the battered fish it looks excellent on other people's plates.

I visit this shop more than once a week, Excellent Fish and Chips and great customer service. I am always greeted when entering the shop and a friendly see you again when leaving. Clean shop with a friendly atmosphere.

We've been to Britz many times over the years to eat in and take away and have never been disappointed. The food is really good, the service friendly and quick and its great value for money.

The food left dirty brown grease marks on the paper aand plate, i think they must of been using old oil.

I really enjoy fish and chips, and when you think of any food you always imagine what it should taste like and it definately wasnt what I expected. The food arrives quickly, BUT, the food is always luke warm as if its just been slightly heated after being sat out all day!Definately dont plan on returning.

Craving Fish and Chips on a road trip i called into Britz. Apparently according to their Window, they won 'Best fish and chips locally...in 2006' Hmm well a lot has gone very wrong since then!It was not busy (around 6pm bank holiday Mon) 2 girls on, 1 rather sweet and friendly, but the one in charge was miserable with minimal customer service skills.The Fish and Chips arrived quickly, my friend had chosen a corner table, several chips discarded by previous unhappy diners were under it! The Fish was luke warm, and the chips were barely warm, certainly not the golden chips of my imaginings! I took them back, 'Sulky girl' said they'd replace them. 1 minute later, same fish, slightly hotter..and crispier with dark batter, and still insipid anemic chips, most of which were undercooked. Only a few of the very small ones were just cooked. I ate one of these and a 1/4 of the fish, which was cooked well, although it had not been seasoned. Bread and butter is supposed to come with this meal, however, it wasn't offered. When Ii asked for it, i got a 'Oh do you want it?' response! We wished we hadn't bothered though, because despite being next to a Co-op the bread wasn't fresh, possibly had been frozen.Anyway, my friend was starving so she ate the rest of the fish, and a few chips. The moody girl didn't come and ask us how things were, and when we left, wouldn't make eye contact with me, in the hope that i wouldn't engage with her. Which I didn't. Why? Because it wouldn't have made one iota of difference she and the 'chef' (LOL) clearly didn't give a toss about customer service or food quality. If this was my business I'd be having a serious word with those staff! i would never go here again, even if i was starving. Terrible.
