We chose the tearooms as they are the most well known in the town and have historical significance. We didn't look at the menu before we went in which perhaps we should have done. The cake choices were on the counter so we both chose the chocolate cake and a pot of tea for two. The staff were dressed in old fashioned black and white mop caps and long skirts etc. The lady who looked to be in a charge had quite a stern face and not a particularly welcoming customer manner. We were surprised to find that a service charge was automatically added which then brought the total for two pieces of cake and tea for two was over £24 which we thought was quite expensive for what it was (tea for one person was £5.95!). I wouldn't particularly go back given the cost and very average service. The cake and tea was fine but nothing outstanding.

Never paid so much money for the worst coffee we’ve ever been served. Cappuccino (£4.80) tasted like a ‘normal’ Latte. And the Latte (£4.75) tasted like a cup of milk with a slight coffee taste ! Slice of pretty average chocolate cake was £6.25. A service charge was added to the bill without our knowledge (the waitresses themselves were for the most part friendly and helpful). The total bill was £17.38 for 2 (very poor) coffees and 1 piece of cake. It was the lovely building that lured us in, but we had to pay the price for it!

The worst afternoon tea experience. We organised an afternoon tea for our Aunties 79th birthday. We were a table of 10 which had pre booked for 2pm and pre-ordered our food in advance. We arrived at the tea rooms at 1:54 ready for our booking at 2pm to be told that our table was being used and the people were still eating so we could wait outside in the rain. We waited until 2:02 when other members of the party arrived to be told our table is still not ready and again we could wait outside in the rain or we could wait inside but we would be in the way. We finally were sat at our table at 2:10pm which had not been laid with any cutlery, tea cups or glasses. At 2:45 our tea finally turned up to the table over brewed and disgusting. Our food did not come out until 3:15 which was wrong, dry and some of the cakes were frozen. Some of the party asked for no fish sandwiches so instead they were given grated carrot sandwiches! At 3:20we were told that our table was only till 3:30 but luckily no one had booked after us. We asked for a jug of water three times to come to the table, when it finally came the glasses were dirty. At 3:50 we got the bill which included a £20 service fee and when asking for it to be taking it off the man asked why and rudely said someone else would have to help us pay as we wanted to pay separately and not all together. Absolutely worse experience of an afternoon tea, poor food and despicable service.

Tuesday 30th January 2024, my husband and I were in need of refreshments after walking around Bradford-on-Avon.. We went to ‘The Bridge Victorian Tea Room’ just next to the town bridge. It is a 15th century building and has a very low door, so you have to bend your head on entering. The interior is genuine Victorian with a roaring fire and tables laid with lace table cloths and fine china and waitresses in long black gowns with white aprons. My husband and I were shown to a table and looked at the impressive cake menu. My husband indulged in a slice of frangipani tart with fresh cream and a pot of Assam tea. I indulged in a slice of key lime pie and a latte coffee. We spent a nice hour here and I found inspiration in this wonderful tea room, I wrote a poem called ‘Step In Time’. Afterwards, my husband and I walked back along the river walk back to our car. We will definitely return here again next time we are in the area.

We visited for lunch and have been here several times, visiting from Cardiff. It always feels like a treat just to be able to sit in this wonderful building and have tea. We had sandwiches, Welsh rarebit, cakes, tea and fizzy water. Our bill was about £60.00. It's fine for that. I don't think it is fair for some of the other reviews to slate the food costs. No, this isn't the cheapest eatery but then go to McDonalds if you feel that way. People can see the menu online and check the prices beforehand. The place is always warm, the cakes are lovely and we have never had a bad lunch there. Lovely experience and we shall return again for another lovely lunch.

We popped in later in the afternoon on the off chance they could squeeze the two of us in. We were seated upstairs at a lovely table, I was snooked and seated into a little nook area, while my hubby was next to the warm radiator! And next to the fire! Sadly the fire was gas!! lol our seats were superb and we were grateful to be given seats when they were so busy and we hadn’t booked on a Saturday! We felt compelled to order a cream tea, due to too many cakes to choose from! lol You know where you are with a cream tea! But then we had to choose our loose leaf tea from 2 pages of teas!!! Our cream tea arrived and we were thrilled to receive one fruit and one plain scone with clotted cream and strawberry jam all presented perfectly! As the hubby can’t eat fruit with savoury (?!), he had my plain scone and I had his fruit scone, so two scones piled with jam and cream went down in no time! This little tea room was just lovely and just what was needed at that point in the day for us!!!! The staff are up n down the stairs? (as there is two floors for customers and a third floor for staff), seeing to their customers. I can’t rate this place enough, everything was just superb, it was a chilly day but inside it was a pleasant temperature. The staff which were mainly female were attentive when needed. Every table was full. We can’t praise ‘The Bridge Tea Rooms’ in Bradford on Avon high enough!

Booked in for afternoon tea, £24.50 each plus a service charge on top, we got a slice of cake each and 4 finger sandwiches each and a pot of tea with a top up of hot water. Service was most definitely without a smile by the lady that served us. Really not welcoming at all. Having worked in a tearoom myself, I think no matter what you should be welcoming and smiley to customers. Very disappointed as it’s such a beautiful building.

My family visited Bradford on Avon some 10 years ago but didn't get to visit this tea shop so today, my sister and myself went here for a birthday treat. It's a beautiful, quaint building. We opted for just a scone each with a pot of tea for two. Having seen the menu, we expected the bill to be about £15 - £18 .....on requesting the bill, we had to do a double check when we were presented with a bill for nearly £25!!!! What we didn't notice or check, was that even though we had one pot of tea, apparently it 'states' that it's £4.95 PER PERSON for a pot of tea!!!! So almost £10 for 4 small cups of tea......a complete rip off in my eyes. I wish we'd done our homework before going in..... just be aware.

We went to the tea rooms for my wife’s birthday and high hopes. We had heard about their award winning status and thought let’s give it a try being local. The food was very nice. Sadly that’s where it ended. We can only assume that the awards won are for best abusive owner and rip off business practices The tea room is in a lovely old cotswold building and the feel of old England has been kept with 2023 poor practice We were greeted by two lovely young staff with smiles and a third staff member who would crack her face if she attempted to smile. We sat at our table and checked the menu to find 10% service charge on any bill over £10. Every piece of food on the menu is over £10. So it’s a 10% service charge for all then. We ordered our food (Welsh rarebit), so £15 for cheese on toast. Then add onto that your £5 cup of coffee. The food came and as we said it was very nice. Well surely it’s hard to screw up cheese on toast but the business practices here it wouldn’t surprise me if you got a slice of Aldi 20p steamed bread and value cheese. Atleast the bread and cheese was a good quality even if it was 1 large slice of bread. For £15 you would have atleast expected 2. So overall £60 for 2 slices of cheese on toast, a cup of coffee, pot of tea and 2 slices of cake. But now onto the main event. Sat enjoying our food and just the quiet time with no kids to chat over my wife’s birthday and we become aware of a lady stood in the middle with a large wet dog (it was raining outside) Not a practice I am a fan of (letting dogs in restaurants) but sadly one that is becoming more the norm. The table behind us though has the dog practically on their table looking at their food. The gentleman politely asked the dog owner to move it away to which they very harshly scolded they would stand with their dog where they wanted and would not move. The lady sat at the table trying to enjoy her food asked again politely and explained they were not dog owners and did not wish to have a strangers wet dog under their table. The dog owner again fires back they will not move until they go upstairs and continued to stand there. We really did feel for the people trying to enjoy their food and having this rude dog owner giving them abuse But that was not the end of it, the dog owner started going upstairs but then decides to have a 3rd bite at these poor People. They turned and fire “Me and my dog will stand wherever we want, we welcome dogs here and I am the owner”, before turning and walking away So, if you want nice but very expensive food with an automatic 10% service charge, and an owner who enjoys abusing their customers thinking they are an air and grace above everyone else. You found the right place.

Customer service abysmal. Some training required. Received multiple emails asking us to confirm booking, and making it clear that if we were not on time we would lose our table. We arrived a polite 4 minutes early only to be told our table wasn't ready. We were sent out to stand outside in the rain and told to come back in 10 minutes. When we came back our table still wasn't ready because one of the staff had allowed a couple who had arrived without a booking to sit there while a table was prepared for them. Why weren't they made to stand outside and wait? We had boked for afternoon tea. The scones were really dry and were obviously cheaply made or the previous day's leftovers. When we had finished we had to wait 15 minutes to attract a member of staff to clear the table and prepare our bill. While we were waiting one staff member was busy clearing away crockery from the next table while one of the customers was trying to eat from it!! The layout is somewhat cramped which was to be expected but it didn't help that one customer was allowed to let her dog lie on the floor immediately inside the doorway. I would have scored this experience as only one out of five but I gave the extra point for the nostalgia value. We won't be going back.

The real beauty of this place is certainly on the outside , as you go in then it all changes !! The customer service is poor , admittedly it was rather busy , but the look of dread on the waitresses face said it all as we walked in , anyway luckily we sat downstairs as the toilets are basically on the next level placed directly in the middle of where people are sat having there food , when I used the facilities the stench coming out was dreadful , as I was waiting to use the loo I could over hear the diners commenting on how disgusting it was to be sat eating there meals with the smell of someone’s previous visit to the loo !!…anyway the food is mediocre at best and the prices are high for what you get , we certainly won’t be going back.

We didn’t book, just asked if they had a table free and were shown to a window seat in the downstairs part of the tea-room. It is suggested that if going for something more (lunch, afternoon tea, etc) that a reservation is made in advance to ensure you get a table. The tea-room is easy to find being in the main road through Bradford on Avon, by the bridge over the river Avon, with a public car park (3 hour maximum) available near-by. From the outside this historic stone building (a former blacksmith's cottage dating from 1502) really oozes atmosphere, whilst inside you can lose yourself in a bygone era of Victorian décor with walls covered in old portraits, blue willow crockery and vintage photos. Classical music playing gently in the background, which adds to the serene tone, and the staff are clad in Victorian-style dress, even to the point that the girls wear traditional maid hats! Their menu was good, not overly extensive considering they are open until late afternoon and contains a page of different leaf teas available to order, staff were on hand to give advice if required in this area. The tea came served in beautiful fine china teapots and cups with saucers and being leaf tea you get a strainer. All scones, cakes, sandwiches, etc were apparently made on the premises and feature seasonal and local ingredients where possible. The warm food we ordered was done to order and considered well worth the wait as they were of good quality, well presented to a high standard (compliments to the chef on this), with decent portions being served. I recommend this tea-room, would use it again if visiting the area and considered it good value for money.

Needed to visit the Bridge Tea rooms as my husband lived here in the 1950's when his grandfather (Lailey) was blacksmith in the town. Exceptional place, as soon as you walk in, you feel like you are back in time with all the young ladies dressed in black dresses with white lace aprons and caps. Two floors to the premises, we had the same table upstairs for our 3 visits. Roy, the owner made us feel very welcome and paid special interest to my husbands memories of his childhood here. Our first visit we had lunch, sandwiches freshly made, and not doorstep bread, as you get in a lot of pubs, with either chips or salad or both. I had a prosecco and my husband a beer. 2nd and 3rd time we had breakfast, again the food was excellent, poached eggs, bacon and toast. Also have cream teas with champagne. Would recommend a visit if you are in town, it is very popular and gets very busy. Best to book if your time in the town is limited.

The service was poor, once we ordered, no checking we were ok, no offer of condiments when food arrived, finally about twenty minutes after we finished we were asked if we’d like anything else, my partner ordered a slice of cake…….after half an hour waiting for it we asked for the bill and left- cake-less!…..a service charge was added to bill …..about 10%…..I paid in honesty as couldn’t be bothered with confrontation. Quaint surroundings, nice service. However, both my Welsh Rabbit and my husbands club sandwich were average. In both cases small portions compared with other cafes in the local area. If we return to the area we will not return. Sorry but disappointing!

Absolutely dreadful! Advertised a la carte menu replaced with a 'bar' menu. Took the waiter 15 minutes to bring a menu and ask if we'd like drinks 40 minutes for food to arrive which was not hot. The pork belly my colleague had was wrapped in gooey fat not crackling, the pumpkin sauce was a teaspoon of orange 'something' and the seasonal veg was mashed potato and some peas. The chicken burger was deep fried and tasted of old fryer fat as did the 'tepid' skin in chips. Presentation of the burger was non existent and the two tiny leaves of lettuce were brown. This was fed back to the waiter when he finally returned to our table his response was he'd mention it to the Chef. The after dinner treat of sticky toffee pudding was solid and rubbery, not moist. The tiniest bit of ice cream and a token gesture at the sauce all was tepid. The dining room was cold and drafty. The decor tired and wall paper peeling off the ceiling and walls. Utterly awful experience with nobody interested in the overall shoddiness of the service and food. Really disappointing, especially as this is the closest hotel to work. A real missed opportunity for this Hotel and Restaurant.

Stopped off for a late lunch/early dinner. So much to choose from. Had the steak and ale pie with mash and the steak and kidney pudding with mash. Both delicious, hot and plentiful. Amazing value for money. Staff very attentive and friendly without being overbearing. Lovely place for families, dog friendly too. 5 star on all fronts.
