One of the best hotel breakfasts I've ever had, all the ingredients are really good quality. The rooms are great, comfy bed. The hotel is right by the bus and tram stops so it's really easy to get into Blackpool. We'll definitely stay here next time we're visiting Blackpool.

First time at Restaurant 56. Mixed review. Firstly I’d like to say that the service was second to none. Lovely, attentive staff without being too overbearing! Sadly, the food let the experience down, which is a shame because we’d heard and read amazing things. Starters were good and the complimentary bread was a nice touch, not to mention delicious, but the price of the patè was actually eye watering. I’m not sure how a wedge of patè, two small pieces of toast and some chutney warrants being £9. I think we were all quietly gobsmacked. As for mains, one of the orders was the much talked about lamb. Unfortunately, it was quantity over quality: a portion that would feed at least four not two, and really very tough. My dad actually struggled to eat it. I don’t think it helped that it was served on a big platter rather than being plated up like the beef; we felt over faced if I’m being honest! The cauliflower cheese was bizarre in that it was a wedge of cauliflower with what can only be described as a tasteless peel off facemask over it in the way of cheese. It was in no way piping hot and baked like you’d expect. The other veg was nicely cooked although it had a smoked/aniseed flavour which was…different. The redeeming factor in all of this was the roasts and Yorkshire puddings- top tier! It’s just a shame they came on the same sharing tray is the lamb, as this meant they were subject to the meat/gravy - not great for the people who don’t like the taste of lamb. This wasn’t highlighted on ordering otherwise we’d have asked for them to be plated separate. For £100 bill between three (only one round of drinks) we really would’ve liked to have been blown away and to have come away being keen to return. But whilst we couldn’t fault the amount of food, the quality could’ve been better. We probably should’ve said something at the time but you feel awkward, don’t you? Maybe Restaurant 56 just isn’t our style of Sunday lunch/roast but equally there’s definitely room for improvement or at least revisions in our opinion.

We went for Sunday lunch there as we'd heard such good things. The service was excellent. The portions were huge. We had the onion soup and the smoked salmon starter. Both were very nice. There was warm bread before that too. They were clearly home made and very fresh. The lamb was a leg! It needed a table of its own! There were plenty of vegetables and roast potatoes. I'd say the Yorkshire puddings were a little over done. But on the whole, we both enjoyed it. There was far too much and we took a lot of it home with us. The two person's lunch would have been more than enough for four adults!

Don't get me wrong here , all in all not a bad hotel. I stayed off season and not many guests apart from me and 3 lads attending courses at Fleetwood college. Main gripe is went for evening meal to be told it's steak and chips or salmon, don't like either so Takeaway it was . Also had a pint that was sour , probably sat in the pipes for days, in fairness didn't have to pay. Need to up game for off season when mainly people attending courses

This was my second visit for Sunday lunch. The first time hubby couldn’t make it and he said he had never heard me speak so enthusiastically about any eaterie, so he booked and I can honestly say he was not disappointed. Not only are the staff so attentive and polite, the food is just outstanding. We both chose the roast beef, perfectly cooked and so tender with lots of flavour which came with enormous Yorkshire puddings, crispy roast potatoes, carrots, broccoli, new potatoes and cauliflower cheese and a jug of gravy for just £22. This fabulous eatery does not skimp on the portions and the food is just delicious. I also had the black cherry cheesecake again, beautifully presented ( I used to be a pastry chef and appreciate the presentation) So glad we booked in advance which is what I would always do, as this place gets so busy. Our visit was just after the New Year, a time when most restaurants are very quiet, so it was a delight to see the Briardene so busy. Make sure you phone and book though, you will not be disappointed.

We were a family party 10, and when we arrived it was busy already, but we were seen and seated straight away. Staff are very attentive and polite and make you feel very welcome. I personally had the loin of pork (£20) which was just amazing, it came with mashed potatoes and plates of delicious Yorkshire puddings, carrots, roast potatoes and cauliflower cheese, there was absolutely loads of food, they do not skimp. Others had the chicken breast (£20) and roast beef (£21.50) and all said exactly the same, perfectly cooked and so tasty. Our visit was for Sunday lunch and hopefully we will return. No problems with main course and starters but dessert is not worth the money Over £9.00 for a Mr Kipling size of thin mange and passion fruit with coconut ice cream being 1 teaspoonful. Other dessert were very poor on quantity but expensive Be careful chef we expect to pay more but desserts are definitely not worth it. The 2/3 course is a better idea but a teaspoon of ice cream is not acceptable.

Went for sunday dinner at The Briardene hotel restaurant now called restaurant 56 in June 2022 as sunday treat for our wives . Never been before . Me and brother in law ordered the large lamb portion for two with all the trimmings , my wife had the beef and sister in law the chicken. When it arrived we were surprised at how small the meat portion sizes were . My sister in law had one small chicken breast for around £19 with my wife a similarly sized small portion of beef again for around £19 . There was plenty of yorkshires and veg but then again at carveries this is usually all you can eat so doesnt really compensate for such a small portion of chicken/beef. The leg of lamb me and brother in law had was large [ but then so it should be for the £44 charged ] and a few slices had been pre cut so i served them my brother in law and took up the large carving knife to cut myself some . I immediately hit a big problem as the knife was struggling to cut through the lamb . I thought at first the knife was blunt but soon realised it was the actual lamb that was so tough it was virtually impossible to carve . When i finally got the knife through the leg and had carved a slice it was really difficult to chew , very tough around the edge of the leg and the center was red , spongy, fairly cold with blood running from it. The second slice was exactly the same and i couldnt eat it. The veg and yorkshires were plentiful , freshly cooked and nice and the chicken and beef dinners although small were according to our wives nice too but the lamb was absolutely shocking . As it was a sunday treat for the wives i decided not to complain at the time and spoil the afternoon so we took a doggy bag of the rest of the lamb , paid and left . One more thing was the prices charged were a lot more than the prices advertised on their website and this doesn't seem to have changed even now several weeks later. The next day i emailed the hotel with my concerns and after a few more days i received a reply from someone called Tracy who apologised for the late reply and who said she would get back to me after investigating. That was two months ago and since then we have heard nothing . Not sure judging by most of the reviews why they got the lamb so wrong it simply wasnt cooked correctly at all plus the tiny meat portion sizes and lack of customer service mean we will not be back and would warn everyone else looking to go for sunday dinner of our very poor experience at Restaurant 56 . The actual restaurant is nice and staff were lovely but food was too expensive, small portions and the lamb was so bad even the dog struggled to eat it the next day and left most of it. Iam not after a refund or a free meal and would suggest that if the restaurant want to do this by way of recompense , that they donate the money to a charity of my choice.

Three of us went here for Sunday lunch last weekend. One member of our party had the Onion Soup starter which was very good and two of us had the 'retro' prawn cocktail, all served with a nice selection of warmed bread. Only issue was the giant prawn was a bit messy to peel, so suggest you take a wet wipe to clean fingers after. For the main, one had the Feather Blade of Beef and two of us had the Leg of Lamb (to carve). Portions for the 2lb lamb are huge, so either have a hearty appetite before you go or ask for a 'doggy bag' to take home the leftover meat. Carving knife could have been a little sharper but as staff were so busy we managed. Roast potatoes were huge and there were plenty of nice Yorkshire puddings to go round. Veg was good and the gravy was delicious. Didn't have room for desserts. Staff were attentive and friendly. It was a full house and I have to say noise levels were quite high. Overall though a good experience.

Four of us on our second visit to the Briar Dene for their Sunday Lunch.I can sum up quickly by saying it is good value for the money, but please do read further. All the starters we have had in both visits have been superb, I honestly don't know how they can provide so many huge prawns for the retro prawn cocktail, if you like big prawns do not hesitate. The soup is always of a good standard and hot bread rolls are provided for the table (not just the soup). The roast beef I had on my previous visit, even though thinly sliced and pink, not overdone, was very tough, I actually struggled to cut and chew some pieces, though it tasted fine and horseradish was available as you would expect. The vegetables really cannot be faulted, all cooked al dente and far too many provided. The roast potatoes are huge and while a little flowery, the gravy (which was excellent) assisted with this. The Yorkshire puddings unfortunately were pretty much cremated, rock hard even after dousing in gravy. Yorkshire puddings should be quite soft with a crisp top.The chicken breast and pork belly were both excellent, but the signature dish of this Sunday lunch menu is the Leg of Lamb to share and carve yourself. It comes with a few pieces cut for you and a carving knife and fork to do the rest (and what you don't eat they will bag up for you).I use the word unfortunately again here, but unfortunately no matter how tender the lamb had been, the amazingly blunt knife would not have been able to cut through it, it would have struggled to cut through warm butter - however it was most was most certainly annihilated by the drastically over cooked lamb leg. This restaurant boasts a 2* Michelin chef, I just wonder where he was when the completely grey cooked leg of lamb without any pink whatsoever was sent out from the kitchen. The outside was crispy, as you would expect for roast lamb, but it was very hard and the meat dry and tough, the pieces that were pre-carved were dense/tight and difficult to cut on the plate and chew. It became a little softer as we progressed into the joint, but it was dried out and over cooked by a long margin. Maybe slow and low cooking would be a better idea? Honestly a poor leg of lamb.On to a more positive note, the desserts are all very good, it doesn't matter what you choose and again, generous portions. The bar is a bit of a let down, while there are bottled beers also, the draught selection is poor, Carling, Smooth and Thatchers. No premium lager or cider from the tap, you may as well be in any B&B in Blackpool for the choice. Also, only cafetière coffee with or without milk, no americano, espresso, macchiato, mocha, latté, or cappuccino.... a bit of a let down post-meal really and not difficult to sort out a coffee machine for a Brasserie. That said it was good for standard coffee but it was served with the cafetière already plunged rather than letting it brew as long as the individual required. All in all as I started the review with, if you choose carefully it is good value for money, but work really needs to be done on the yorkshires and the lamb, André and Édouard would not be including those aspects in their little red book.I do think quite a few of the reviewers on TA are confusing quantity with quality, their is no argument, the Briar Dene certainly provides quantity, but unfortunately my families experience has been that the beef and the lamb are in all honesty no better than the average carvery. But note - ALL THE OTHER FOOD IS OF A GOOD STANDARD and it is important to balance the good with the bad.We will still go again, but will choose wisely which of course cuts down on the choice but better the devil you know.Lastly, the staff are pleasant and the younger staff are well presented and have an obvious dress code, I would suggest that would be better applied to all the staff that serve in the restaurant.

A meal for 12 to celebrate a diamond wedding anniversary. Although the set menu with options for two or three courses could be argued to be limited, the food was excellent. Well prepared and presented and very tasty whether you tried the beef, lamb or steak. Staff were attentive and helpful, so all round a great experience.

Cannot fault it. This was my 3rd visit & I have only experienced amazing food. I had the blade of beef which was so tender & delicious. Fine dining without the price tag. Service is excellent, attentive staff without being overbearing. Next time I'm going to go for the Sunday lunch but have been told you need to book a couple of weeks ahead.

Enormous breakfast fit for a king! Choices of cereals, pastries, fruit, porridge, kippers, full English with eggs cooked to perfection and much, much more, didn't need to eat again all day. Value for money clean and pleasant surroundings, though there was the owners dog padding around in the restaurant, not what I like to see myself.

Called in to try Dealmonster voucher but decided to upgrade.Staff are lovely , friendly yet professional.Starters were lovely. However , Chateauneuf du Pape at £24 was colder than the Rose we bought too !!When I asked why, was told "We keep it by an open window " - so no chance of changing it.Upgraded to a 1/2 lb T bone steak as you`ll see in attached photo . Seemed to be missing most of fillet section ! The rest was chewy and undercooked & difficult to cut - even after I`d had to ask if they did steak knives ?Rest of meal was good and we stayed for desert to get a complete view of the experience.Would we recommend ? Yes but specify exactly what you want then enjoy

We visit here regularly to eat either for a date night or family Sunday roast. It is exceptional in quality service and value for money. The portions are huge and everything from a whole leg of lamb hand carved at the table to a fillet steak with the most beautiful homemade pepper sauce is cooked perfectly. We even enjoyed Xmas day lunch here and I can honestly say I will never cook another turkey at home again! Everything was spot on.....all 7 courses!!! Highly recommended no where better on the fylde in my opinion! Looking forward to our next visit.

Four of us attended a Christmas party night with meal and disco. The three course meal with coffee, was excellent. There was plenty of food even for the most hungry and we all considered the occasion to be good value. The whole event was very enjoyable and the disco included music that even us oldies could dance to. The music did get very loud by the end of the evening so not recommended for anyone for whom this would be a problem.

My family used this hotel to cater a birthday party we organised for a relative a couple of years ago. Everyone commented how delicious the food was and how smoothly the event went. My staff association also used the hotel to hold its Annual General Meetings and the catering always drew a very favourable reaction.Based on these experiences I booked a table at the hotel restaurant for a meal for my wedding anniversary and neither my wife nor I were disappointed. Our welcome was warm and friendly and the restaurant's atmosphere was calm and relaxing. More importantly the food (from the warm bread brought to the table before our starters to the huge serving of tasty seasonal vegetables that accompanied our main meals) was plentiful and absolutely delicious. It's not the cheapest eaterie in the Thornton-Cleveleys area but for a special occasion it's well worth the money. My wife and I will definitely be going back and I would encourage anyone looking for somewhere different for an enjoyable evening out to do the same.
