Brewhemia in Edinburgh, City of

Went for dinner here, food was very nice. Would recommend booking a table as it does get very busy. Didn't realise I should have put a note to say we wanted to eat where the entertainment was going on, we was lucky enough to find a small table to watch the live band playing as well as some music playing in between. All in all a good night, very busy with a few hun party's and large groups.

What a fantastic venue for an event!!! We only had canapes so can't comment directly on the food. The camapes we had were lovely though. We hired a room for a family event. The barman did an excellent job.. highly recommend for an event.

My opinion. It was a really nice place to visit. But remember to visit your bank manager first you'll need to because a bit expensive. But it's city prices over all nice place to visit for one drink 3 chips and leave 😄.

Booked for afternoon tea and asked if we could have a vegetarian afternoon tea to which the answer was NO. It was a set menu. Who in this day and age doesn’t cater for vegetarians?

Every time we dine in Brewhemia I am delighted with how kind and helpful the staff is, that is something that definitely make me come back there❤️ of course, food is superb, and all the decor and general atmosphere just amazing ✨

Nice large bars with a reasonable choice of beer and a good atmosphere - with very nice staff. BUT - Expensive food and an automatic 12.5% service charge - when will places realise that customers absolutely rail against being told what to give as a tip....never mind 12.5% which is an Americanism the greedy are trying to bring in. Also - one example of poor managing - a large bar with five people behind it all standing talking....when approaching them for a beer I was told we are not serving customers - go to the small one at the back (which was busy) Great potential but definitely flawed.

Bought two double gin and tonics, put coasters on them and went outside for a cigarette, which admittedly took me about twenty minutes as I had to escape the labyrintian hell that is this bar. When I returned my drinks were gone. I asked the bartender, who asked his colleague, who dismissively replied that she'd just thrown them away. When I was told that 'if I leave drinks that look empty they'd be cleared', I replied 'we' d had a third, if that, and put coasters on them', the bartender was aghast at his colleagues behaviour. However, he said he couldn't give us doubles again as a replacement but would do 'two really nice gins'. Absolutely terrible customer service, and to be honest I don't even like gin so I couldn't give a flying **** if they were nice or not. If it hadn't been a friend's leaving party I'd have torn them all a new one. We left shortly after and I won't return nor advise anyone else to go into Dante's hell either.

The worst Christmas party I have ever been to. The whole of our company left early as it was that bad. The meal was terrible and the driest bit of beef I have ever eaten. Way too expensive for how bad it was.

Large venue with mutliple different areas, clean throughout, modern and well decorated. The Sunday roast was enjoyed by all and accompanied by a wide selection of beers and other drinks to choose from. Staff attentive and friendly, couldn't do enough for you. We were a large group with luggage as we were travelling after the meal, we were promptly seated and orders taken. Would recommend this place with friends, for couples or family.

This is a very commercial pub, beers were good and pretzel was very good , highly recommend it. Service was not great, very hectic. Live band was playing, which was fun to hear.

The men's toilets were utterly fowl.. I've been in some dives in my time and the smell of these toilets were up there with how you would imagine the visuals of trainspotting would smell. I told the manager who kind of shrugged it off when he checked. Very strange

Had relatives visiting and needed a table for seven for lunch at fairly short notice. Menu looked good and the kids menu covered all the bases. Staff were attentive, food was good (fish frites and garden spätzle pasta popular choices) and whilst it was busy we weren’t chased out which was great.

We were visiting Edinburgh to see my daughter, now an Edinburgh local, and she recommended Brewhemia as she had seen their new menu advertised. We were served by a lovely waitress, Janvi, who accommodated my sesame allergy really well and then recommended delicious starters and main courses. I had the prawns and a Scottish Sirloin, my daughter had cauliflower wings and the salmon, my long time friend (a first time Edinburgh visitor!) got the haggis croquettes and the sausage fest. Portion sizes great, wine selection fantastic, service was superb. Will definitely come back on our next trip to Edinburgh!

Worst afternoon tea I have ever had. 1 small roll each. No quiche as mentioned, lemon meringue pie and eclair absolutely tiny and only a half of each per person. Scones hard and crunchy and all broke away when trying to cut. Also no vegetarian options. Supposed to be unlimited tea and coffee. Never once asked if we wanted either. We were in well over an hour and had to go upto bar to request this. Do like Brewhemia and have been several times for food and drinks but certainly won’t be back for afternoon tea. Not worth the money.

Got the boozy brunch gifted for Christmas 3 where drinking and one wasn’t as drove when we got there everything was fine and after a little while got served by a lovely young man after he went away and we waited a bit he then came back to tell us one of the cocktails were off the menu (the one cocktail we all liked as well as the mocktail ordered ) we asked if there could be a change to the other one (pink gin martini) just changing the pink gin to normal as dont like pink gin also asked about mocktails as couldn’t get it and he said it could only be soda that could be ordered but with the cocktails he said he would ask when he came back he said due to it being pre made they wouldn’t be able to do this but could add the espresso martini instead we decide to try the pink gin martini for two of the people even though we don’t like pink gin one expresso martini and a cola, we got our started board which was good and when we where ready for the drinks and the collugue where picking up our plates we asked if the drinks where coming which she said she would ask one of the bar staff after a couple minutes we talked to another colleague came with our first drinks we ask about the next drinks while she was there due to the fact the one cocktail we liked wasn’t able to get if there was any chance we could change it to a different one on the main menu of cocktail or even pay the extra after mentioning that because they are more expensive and they wouldn’t be able to give us 3 for the 2 people who needed it (one had soda and other took the expresso martini) so we came to a compromise about getting two cocktails and the one coming in instead of the 3 for each of the two people so 4 instead of 6 when we got them we ordered our meals which where speedy and nice we then asked for our round the collugue said she would have a look the supervisor who talked to us before came back and explained that she meant we would only get 2 cocktails one for each person instead of the 4 we though we where getting because even though in the offer we got 4, 1 of the cocktails at the start (that we didn’t drink) and the one from The other menu would be the same amount as 3 after she went away the party talked and decided due to the fact we didn’t get what we expected we would just finish and asked for the bill not as the brunch but as separate prices as we didn’t get the experience we booked after 20 minutes no one came back so while another collugue came to clean our plates away we mentioned about a bill and explained what happened the collugue was lovely and apologised explained that it hadn’t been a normal Saturday and she would get it fixed, she got it fixed for us and actually took one of the drinks off the bill for the inconvenience we appreciate that it was busy and that they had a lot going on but if they know they have the boozy brunch booked they could of asked previously if we knew what we where wanting drink wise or even told us before we sat down so we could decide if we still wanted to go with the boozy brunch and not the main menu definitely wouldn’t book the boozy brunch again

Spent a lovely Sunday afternoon here with my wife. This was our 2nd visit and we loved just having a few drinks in a nice relaxed atmosphere. Good selection of beers, comfortable seats, super clean toilets and friendly staff.

We had an absolute WHALE of a time! Stag group of 14, the food was so tasty, only thing I would have liked was a slightly bigger main myself, but everything was very tasty & well cooked. The live music was absolutely phenomenal, the bands the DJ - we were dancing on tables for hours and honestly just had the most wonderful time! Best night of the stag do hands down! Friendly and attentive staff - perfect venue! Thanks so much :)

We have just experienced the most delicious afternoon tea with Prosecco, everything was delicious especially the scones with raspberry jam and Chantilly cream , such a good mixture of sweet and savoury at Brewhemia Edinburgh,served by the lovely Maggie from Oregon USA .She gave us a warm welcome and so looked after us during our experience -nothing was too much trouble for her and she made our day . We will b back 👍

Nice stylish shop. Price-performance is okay. Half a star deducted because the young ladies were served at the bar earlier and earlier by the waiters. Another half point deducted because the German pretzel for 8 pounds was really extreme. It was a small pretzel like you would find at the bakery. A pretzel like that costs maybe 30 cents. The live music was good.

We ordered vegetarian and non vegetarian breakfast, both were delicious! The non vegetarian option didn’t come with any eggs. Both meals didn’t include coffee. The service was extremely slow, not sure why. Good dining spot in front of the Edinburgh train station.

My daughter and I had a reservation at 1.45 Sat 16th March for lunch which was completely ruined because of the live Wales v Italy rugby match being shown. Our table was right in front of the bar which had a large screen above, the lights were turned down and the noise level was unacceptable. My daughter asked if we could be seated somewhere quieter but was told that wasn't possible. We ate our meal in poor light and couldn't talk to each other because of the noise. We paid our bill of £88 as soon as we finished eating and left at 3pm. A very expensive hour and a quarter! If it hadn’t been for the fact that we had already been served our drinks order and had ordered our food we would have left. The premises aren’t advertised as being a sports bar, in fact in my confirmation email it states within the dress code section 'no fancy dress and no football colours, no sportswear or workwear'. This is a joke given the large screen and two smaller screens showing the match. I’m extremely disappointed that I haven’t had a response from the Brewhemia team after emailing them the morning after, not exactly good customer service.

Great spot. The lighting front of the main bar is a pain. Nicole (Irish) was a great server and looked after us. Give her a raise.

Our meal was ok and the girl who served was excellent but check your bills very carefully. The following day we noticed we had been charged £20 for not attending. When we phoned to complain the girl was very unconcerned. Offered no apology for either the initial error or the inconvenience we had been put to. Not impressed- we won’t be back.

Don’t waste your money, food was bad and overpriced. Would be fun on a weekend when there is a show, but only come for a drink. The food is not worth your time. The waiter didn’t even know the steak came with fries.

Got an afternoon tea voucher for my Christmas. The plate came with 2 tiny rolls and some savoury pieces. There was nothing on the booking form to say it was a reduced menu as that was what the server told me. A total let down and waste of money. This present cost my husband £29 and you were lucky if there was £10 worth of food on the plate. And lastly this was supposed to feed 2 people.

Booked a table in the prosecco lounge where we listened to a fantastic singer then moved on downstairs to try the huge selection of drinks and tank beers. The menu has something for everyone and when the evening gets going with the band, DJ and dancers in the main hall this is a bar you would be hard pressed to walk away unhappy from. Its an experience everyone should try at least once visiting Edinburgh and a bar I would visit everytime I go back now

The main reason we came was because it was dog friendly but then found they were people friendly too ! Lovely staff great food (although probably could have been a little warmer) little slow on service but it wasn’t too much of a problem. The live music was an added treat ! Overall it was a good experience

The host was really friendly, but I cannot say the same about the waiter. The food was mid. The Burrata had no taste at all and didn’t come with bread. The “prosciutto” pizza had almost no prosciutto. The fries trio was the only thing that saved the night.

I recently had a nice lunch at Brewhemia, Edinburgh’s captivating beer palace. Brewhemia houses eight copper tanks filled with unpasteurized, unfiltered beers. Alongside tank brews, they have 12 showcase beers on tap, homemade schnapps, inventive cocktails, and a remarkable gin collection.

Sloooow service. I came for the duelling pianos, but not a duel in sight. I'm sure the piano playing was good, but I couldn't hear it for the percussion. Also, both singers were flat. It's a shame, music here is usually better

This is a beautifully decorated establishment on a large scale. Bar food and drinks downstairs and food in the restaurant upstairs. Lovely decor and atmosphere. Pricey! Great and friendly service. Food was delicious, meat, risotto, vegetarian dishes. Great selection of alcoholic beverages.

Went to one of their Christmas evenings with food, music and entertainment. Was absolutely great and such a wonderful party atmosphere. This place is huge and has plenty of bars. Would highly recommend.

Not a food review This place looks really inviting from the outside and once you wander in through the doors it's....well, a bit disjointed from what I thought it was going to be in my mind. Don't get me wrong, it's still lovely inside but just completely different to the snug, cosy environment I thought it was going to be. It was in fact quite a bit bigger inside than I expected and full of large tables for large groups of people which wasn't really what I was after. Travelling on my own with a rucksack, I kind of wanted somewhere I could get a cosy little corner and not be in anybody else's way. It is very much a food pub and the decor seemed to be a mix of trendy industrial type themes. At this point, I wasn't actually sure if I was welcome as I was only after a drink, it wasn't on my agenda to eat... I didn't get a feeling that this was the done thing here.....I guess what I'm saying is...as soon as I'd walked in, I wasn't sure if it was a pub or a restaurant specifically. The 'meet and greet' person didn't exactly do that and after a brief but subtly deliberate pause to seek attention/service, I decided I'd prefer not to look like a knob and walked straight passed her (surely if I was to have to wait to be seated, she'd call me back....she didn't and I proceeded to walk straight to the bar). I instantly felt more comfortable now, noticing other people who were here drinking and sat at the bar...unless they were just waiting to be shown to their table for food, I still wasn't 100% I took my chance and also sat at the bar, ironically it seemed the best place to be in avoidance of being an obstacle to anyone else. The bar staff were lovely, really attentive and although it wasn't particularly busy, they kept track of who was waiting at the bar and in which order to serve. I really liked that, I hope that's something which is indoctrinated here, it shows a touch of class where other places fail miserably. I had a decent pint of Guinness, and whilst I might have gawked slightly at the price, I had a quiet word with myself and remembered where I was and that it is indeed a city not a quiet rural boozer. Overall a positive experience, I passed this place a few more times on my visit but never went back in, it's just me I guess, I wish the inside met the outside appearance more but...they can't please everyone now.

Stumbled upon this place on our first night in Edinburgh and I couldn't recommend it enough! Matilda served us and helped me with an allergy. She put so much effort in and helped me so much. I hope management know that Matilda is an absolute asset to your business. Food was incredible 😋

Great location. Visited in the run up to Christmas. Very busy venue, a long wait to get served at the bar but an excellent atmosphere. Staff were helpful.

Make sure to check your checks before paying. Overcharged me for a drink I never had then the staff lied about me having a second one. Manager refused to refund me.

Better booking if busy went with a few friend's we for a few sharing dishes and 2 cocktails each and a bottle wine was there about 3 hours will go back again 🙂

We stopped in for drinks and snacks with friends. It's a great spot, but as with all city venues, it isn't a cheap place. Not the venues fault, just city prices. No issues with any of the food or drinks, some less usual beers on tap.

Great atmosphere, unfortunately they ran out of basics behind the bar at 11pm . Supposed to be one of the top bars in Edinburgh paying for the Hogmanay party . Atmosphere, DJ and band were great. Staff were also attentive and plenty of them ....

Tasty brunch but portion sizes are small. Nice to have the live music and it is a lovely environment, especially if you get one of the booths.

Food ok, eggs had far too much parsely and arrived cold. Fish & chips good. Service was slow - possibly understaffed. Drinks took 30 mins and orders forgotten. Had to ask for plates and forks. Staff weren't knowledgeable about menu items or drinks. Food intolerances not communicated about so my dish arrived incorrect. Ambience is lovely though noisy when busy. There are better places in Edinburgh to eat. Fine for drinks.

Out for Xmas Dinner with colleagues. We were put near the door and we were cold. Asked to be moved to the entertainment area but this was fully booked. Was not even offered a xmas menu but a run of the mill one. I managed to eat mine very quickly as not much on my plate I didn't realise it was fine dining. One of my colleagues got some food from another friend as he was still hungry. Will I come back no I wouldn't. No atmosphere and then told no more table service go to the bar on your own. We never stayed and this ruined our Xmas night.

If you're: Under 23, indifferent to over-worked staff (who understandably, seem like they'd rather be anywhere else), missing reservations, not seating parties together, & staff quelling emotions that border on convivial; this could be the place for you! It's always busy, so obviously lots of people love it & the food is apparently pretty good. It's an odd hybrid of Wetherspoons/TOWIE-esque clientele, in a mismatched pastiche nouveau riche boutique setting, with Shoreditch prices.
