Brewers Fayre - Potters Arms in Harlow

Picked the cookhouse + pub as a pit stop during a long drive (France to Yorkshire) on 04.01.25 - Reasonably close to the M11 and had Tesco next door for fuel. Warm welcome on entrance and were advised immediately they were having some supply issues and the menu wasn’t fully available, still a variety to choose from. We were asked about allergies, I have recently discovered issues with gluten and whilst I can tolerate smaller amounts it’s easier to eat GF, I was given a printed allergen list to help me order. I asked if it was possible to amend another menu item and after a quick check with the kitchen it was agreed. Only 2 staff working the restaurant, it wasn’t busy but they were both working tirelessly. Food was served fresh and promptly and can’t fault the service at all. Will bear this place in mind for future was worth the short detour from the motorway to get a proper meal and not fast food from the services.

Booked in advance for dining for the festive menu. Arrived and was told limited items on menu. No festive menu. Carvery looked dry, barely any food left. Do not recommend.

Service on arrival was non existent. Waited to be seated for 10 minutes even though the restaurant was empty. Could not use the self register for parking as it was not lit up enough to be able to see the keyboard and was filthy with grease on the screen! When we mentioned this to manager he dismissed it saying it never works properly & it’s down to parking company to sort out (do they clean it as well?) Was told we could only eat in bar area as restaurant was booked up although it was empty and nobody arrived whilst we were there! Most items were not available on the menu as “there had been a gas leak” 🤷🏼‍♀️ Food was ok for the price we paid but would not have been happy if we had been charged any more. Bar maid was very pleasant but manager was very rude and miserable, think he needs to rethink his career in “hospitality“!!

Stopped in for a couple of drinks. The decor is quite dated and seats torn etc. The draft beers had a funny smell, so switched to bottles. Intended to have a bite to eat, but was put off by the dirty tables and general uncleanliness.

Had an excellent meal today with a great service. Was looked after very well by Lacie. As I had Gluten Intolerance I was very well looked after with no cross contamination etc.

We got there at 10am very disorganised at the start table not ready weight ages for them to take the order they only had to two staff waiting the tables we waited over an hour for cooked breakfast that when they came out where cooled poached eggs over cooked large eggs shells in the eggs.the had ran out of loads of the continual breakfast choc spread honey croissant being told that they hadn’t order enough staff telling us that the manager hadn’t ordered enough items only one cook on no apology or explanation why this was happened also no bowls no cups no plates they all had to be washed coffee machine not working so waiting at this bar forever as there wasn’t enough staff on. Excess of tables full of plates cups etc not being cleared. Chef not willing to come out to speak regarding the egg shell apparently prepping for dinner. 1* isn’t adequate should be zero rating.

Thoroughly enjoyed our meal portions were great had the mixed grill and smothered platter. Eggs were runny and steak was cooked to perfection compliment to the chefs! Milly our waitress was brilliant and polite despite having many tables! Would definitely recommend.

8 of us have have just had another enjoyable lunch at the Potters Arms. Now, this is not a gourmet dining experience, rather it is a great value pub with a decent range of food and drinks. We are regulars and one of the attractions is being well looked after by Laura. Laura give us great service and is always able to have a laugh and a joke. Thank you Laura!

Very poor show on food service. Only Turkey and Gammon left no beef. Hate Gammon. Food was cold , carvery was closed at 5pm No batters left. Cauliflower cheese was rock hard not cooked. Staff were attentive and polite. But extremely rushed. Would i return. Definitely not at this time of day. Perhaps earlier and would definitely book. Food was a major let down. Very poor quality.

Very slow service and poorly managed. The young barmaids seem to have no support from the illusive manager. Even when the manager finally came out to a busy bar he showed no intention of helping his struggling staff. The place seems to have a lot of potential but not with this manager at the helm, think it’s best he’s replaced.

30/06/2024 we went out for a nice family meal ( or so we thought ) . the service was one of the worst I have ever seen for a pub . Food , well lets just say the food felt like it was from Tesco over the road , the Sunday dinners had ZERO and I mean zero flavour to it . no seasoning to any of the veg , looked all like it had come out from a freezer and wasn't fresh , the meat was over cooked . The Yorkshire puddings just looked like they was aunt Bessie's no height to the what so ever , paying £11.49 for what everything to be frozen was not worth it . staff was nice and friendly was the only positive and from what I could see no manger was on site . will not be returning and also emailing your head office about our visit .....

Had a lovely meal tonight, food was lovely and service was great! Special shout out to our waitress Kayleigh!!! From taking our order without a notepad in sight to joining in with the group and making us so welcome. Hands down the best service, such a brilliant sport!! We will definitely be back! X

Totally Rubbish. No Vegetarian meals, totally dirty. The staff were more interested in their problems. So No,not for me

Been coming to the Potters arms every now and then when I visit Church Langley and there have been quite a few changes to both the service and the menu over time The service used to be slow, one time we had to wait almost an hour for our meal to arrive and almost half an hour trying to get a waitress’ attention for the bill when we finished the meal, we would try and get their attention only to be ignored or responded with a rude remark “Just give me a second” only a second turned into 30 minutes… Anyway that was all in the past, yesterday I was feeling hungry while visiting Church Langley so decided to give it another go, and wow the service has improved a lot since. Our server Olivia was friendly and very attentive, within minutes she was asking us if we were ready to order and what drinks we wanted we didn’t have to wait long. Also when we finished despite serving other tables in the area at the time she came over to clear our plate up and handed the bill quite quickly. I was very impressed with the service after our experience last time! Although I was a bit suprised that the menu had changed and the options was a lot less than when I last went when it was a whole booklet and pages of food to choose from, this visit it was just one page of food. I had the chicken katsu curry it was very nice. All in all a very good experience I would come again.

What an excellent lunch the four of us had Great service from Laura and amazing value My steak was the best I have eaten in years and about the cheapest I asked if they happened to have any mushrooms in the kitchen and without any fuss up came a delicious dish for £1 Two of my friends did the two mains for £10.99 and they thought it was unreal it was so inexpensive yet tasty We will be back !!

We were served by Nicola J who was lovely, nothing was too much trouble to her. The carvery was good superb as always with a lovely assortment of vegetables, and the trio of pies was cooked beautifully as was the mash. A big thank you to Nicola and the chefs. Highly recommended.

6.45am warm welcome and great, quick service. Tasty, fresh and generous Vegan Breakfast - tasty fresh ground coffee. Unlimited portions very generous. If hungry one could really fill up.

Went into the bar at 10.03pm on a Friday night for a drink and were told they’d just called last orders. It was 10pm. On a Friday night. There were about 5 other tables with people drinking so it wasn’t as if we had walked into an empty pub and they’d decided to shut because it was quiet. Rubbish customer service. Dismal.

Went to get a table 17-30 today waited to be seen to get a table asked behind the bar is the restaurant open she said yes a guy came to us I explained I wanted a table for 2 he said if you sit down for 10 minute’s I’ll sort it out I said why the restaurants empty I can sit at the table look at the menu & order that would take 10 minutes he repeated what he said I told him this pub has turned into a piss hole along with the staff & left The grounds of the pub is also looks like a refugee camp glad I never ate there

Long story short, do not frequent this place. Closed more than open. We stayed in the adjacent Premier Inn, this the local eatery/pub for said hotel. During the day a very bad lack of staff. Went into town and then back to the hotel for a rest. Woke up at 9:30pm, thought we would go for last orders, get there and are told it is closed 10pm on a Saturday night! Next day went for breakfast (pre-paid). Wish we had not, no eat as much as you want buffet, food T order by one very stressed waitress working on her own. Heard the rumours (turning up to find your table cancelled) on Boxing Day. Bar restaurant closing early. No more P/I or Potters for us!😡🤬

We went to breakfast here as we were staying at the Premier inn next door. As far as Premier Inn breakfasts go this was probably our most pleasurable. The breakfast room was bright and clean. Joanne our waitress was very welcoming, attentive and could not do enough for us. This location cooks your breakfast to order (not buffet style) and we were asked for our order very swiftly. The cooked breakfast was absolutely fine although like all premier inns the fried eggs are always a little small and insipid. The tea making area provided teapots and a jug for the milk which is is such a good idea and wish it was taken up at more breakfast locations.

Laura was very helpful and offered to help with anything i may need and made sure to check for any allergies , the food also came quick and tasted great :)

Just terrible service, you have a few lovely staff mostly the two older ladies are very welcoming. The younger ladies looked like they were not happy to even be working there. The service is very poor no one ever asks you if you need anything, the food is cold and terrible.The staff are very rude to the customers when everyone is there spending money. My honest opinion The staff need training on professional customer service and hospitality management or the Cookhouse pub will lose alot of customers and that means no jobs for them.

Went with my wife toddler and mum for dinner waited over a hour for dinner to be served Wasn't asked if needed more drinks Different waitresses forgetting what was ordered Toddlers food came out a hour after sitting down at table sausage chips and sausages were red and raw asked for replacement chicken nuggets and chips they gave burnt slice of chicken and chips Service was disgusting waitresses not interested more interested in chatting giving looks making you feel uncomfortable Avoid this place if your with a family embarrassing when say you want take them for a treat and get let down

Entered at mid-day, booked in our car and waited. Eventually, the lady lounging on the bar said "We are NOT serving food today, only the bar". I explained that I had received the email acknowledgement of our lunch booking and that there was No mention on their website of No food. "Sorry" was the response. So we had the usual excellent lunch and service at The Toby Carvery.

It was the worst food we have eaten (well we didn’t eat much of it) it was cold and very over cooked in fact it was burnt and when we told the waitress she just said that’s the way the chef always cooks it and just walked away. So bloody rude. We will never go there again or recommend the place to anyone.

Not a great experience, food was cold, staff seem not professional ( I know it is hard work ) I had a discount that I could use, before I could, bill tilled up and staff member refused to re I put my bill to enable the discount. Will not be going there again anytime soon.

Absolutely awful and very disappointing for grandchildren on Christmas Eve. Food stale, nothing fresh, no staff and what staff there was had a little attitude after advising they had no manager, GM, food or staff.

I booked a table in September for me and my family to have a boxing day meal. After checking on Christmas day (having heard of several incidents of last minute cancellations previously) that everything would go ahead as planned, I was given just one hour in advance notice that my booking had been cancelled without any proper explanation, leaving me and my family without anywhere to go for our meal. I will not be booking here again.

Food took ages BUT their server Maddie was AMAZING. They updated us on wait times, kept apologising about the wait to us and all other tables around. There was no manager in sight and to be fair, there was no need for them to come out. Maddie deserves so much recognition after this busy period is over and hope they accept the job offer that ive given them 😉 they are the future of customer service and any company would be so lucky to have an employee like Maddie <3

Had a lovely time with all the family. Unlimited breakfast and kids eat free, our waitress jade, was amazing, completely on her own on a Saturday morning and wasn't left waiting once, very kind and friendly really enjoyed out morning out.
