Booked for our double Birthday meal for Sunday Lunch, outstanding food, impeccable service (Fi and Dave working the floor were fantastic, totally on the ball) all in a welcoming, warm comfortable environment, like having Sunday Roast at home, but better, can’t rate The Brewers highly enough, 5* all the way.

First visit to this pub. Really friendly and helpful staff. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Food was delicious. We had a selection of the nibbles to start. Really tasty snacks, especially the Padron Peppers. Main was Roasted Sea Bass with Hassleback potatoes and Mediterranean vegetables. Really delicious. Will definitely be back.

We are on holiday in the area and chose this restaurant due to a nice looking menu, steak night offer and good reviews. We attended on a Thursday night, which generally seems popular due to their steak night offer however when we arrived it is clearly also a popular “locals spot” which wouldn’t bother us if weren’t for the fact that we were ignored continuously for the first 15 minutes, receiving no table service, unlike everyone else that subsequently arrived. When we did eventually order our food and drink by going up the bar the lady serving us (pixie crop hair) was quite abrupt about the fact we hadn’t booked a table, despite no requirement of this listed on the website and we sat at an unreserved table. She told us she could only take our order “if we were quick” and proceeded to roll her eyes at someone sat at the bar as we walked away. We can’t fault the food, the steak, hanging meat kebab, prawns & sticky toffee pudding were all lovely and would highly recommend. Our experience was obviously quite different to the table next to us who weren’t enjoying theirs and complained and sent some dishes back, which is none of our business, however what we didn’t appreciate was that where we were sat was next to the kitchen hatch, one of us having a direct view into the kitchen, where we could quite obviously see and hear their unreserved disgruntled reactions to the other table every time the same lady returned into there. Would recommend a cheerier customer service, especially for guests, but props to the chef for a lovely meal.

I phoned up and booked a table for 2 for the same evening circa 7.45pm. We arrived and waited by the bar to be served although it was a little busy, not a problem. Was ignored by the bar staff and a larger party who came to order drinks after us were prioritised. Manager then came over and finally sat us to our table. We were seated right in the middle, not normally an issue but just as it was so busy I politely asked ‘I know it might be a pain in the ass but would it please be possible to sit outside?’, to which the reply was ‘I mean, yeah it is a pain in the ass but if it’s what you want then fine’. She left our table, we took our menus outdoors, put them on a table and left the pub. Incredibly rude I actually couldn’t believe it! I understand everyone has bad days but I’d never dream of speaking to a customer like that. Food is normally so so good in there and you can’t fault it, just a shame the staff make you feel very unwelcome and like you’re a burden. If they were too busy and it was a pain for us to eat, they simply shouldn’t have taken our reservation.

First time eating dinner here and definitely won’t be the last ! Knocks the socks of the other 2 eating establishments in Herstmonceux by a country mile, food cooked perfectly, including the 10oz rump steak that was perfectly cooked and rested before serving, the chicken and chorizo kebab served with theatrical style was equally amazing, as a Michelin trained chef myself it’s always difficult to eat out and not “moan” but nothing to moan about here, would recommend 100%, the amazing front of house staff and superb Malbec sealed a swift return soon !

My partner and I came in for a Chateaubriand for a special occasion. It was by far the best steak I’ve had in years! It was cooked to perfection (medium rare) and was the same consistency of pick all the way through, no over cooked grey on the edges like I’ve had before elsewhere. Is came with a massive portion of fries, lovely dressed side salad and 2 sauces of your choose. Honestly it melted in my mouth! I’ve eaten a few times at the brewers arms and have always walked away very happy with the value, but also the service as well. All the staff are so friendly! I look forward to my next visit!

Visited the Brewers whilst on holiday nearby. What a beautiful pub. The staff and owners welcomed you like they would old friends. The food is cooked fresh and there is enough on your plate to satisfy the most hungriest of visitors. It's also reasonably priced. We drank there on several evenings and ate there twice. Food is served Wednesday to Sunday and the choice of the menu and also the specials board is enough to keep you pondering for a while. The 2 occasions that we dined here I chose the Wagu Burger from the specials board. It came with fries, and a small salad on the plate. The burger was beautifully cooked and was flavoursome. My wife had the tuna steak with an Asian dressing, again cooked to perfection. On the second occasion we ordered a large meat feast pizza along with a side of haloumi fries and a small salad. Once again the meal was enjoyable and the pizza to large to eat in one sitting, relying on a takeaway box so we could enjoy the rest later. All in all a great experience in a proper local pub. We will definitely return when we come back to the area in the future.

Went the night prior as staying locally, lovely staff and atmosphere. Saw their offer for 2 meals of steak, chips and salad for £22 and decided to book up as is a bargain. 10/10 meal, asked us how we liked our steak and delivered on one being rare and the other medium rare, beautiful cut of steak each, thick cut and little fat, expertly chard outside whilst remaining tender. We got the extra sides as we’re greedy and every element was cooked to perfection, really recommend the vine roasted tomatoes. Plus they offer sauces for the steak, the garlic butter I had was outrageously good and complemented the steak perfectly. The sides/sauces are extra each but I would recommend as are delicious, however you get enough from you steak meal alone that it wouldn’t be essential to bulk it out. Recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment!

I went here for an impromptu dinner with my wife and two children. The pizza was nice but my wife’s ribeye steak was shocking. She ordered a 10oz medium rare ribeye and when it came out it was very thin and over cooked. When we complain about it being over cooked, the excuse given was that it’s hard to cook a steak that thin medium rare. Why did they even serve it? I think they were hoping that we would not complain and get the money for a steak that was an off cut.

On our most recent visit we decided to have a classic burger and a chicken burger, which were excellent, with a side of halloumi fries from the specials board to share, which were incredible and the portion was massive. In the past we’ve had an array of choices including the rack of ribs, the tuna steak and the rump steak and they have all been excellent, I’d go as far as to say the best ribs I’ve ever had. They also have an extensive selection of gins and other spirits, as well some really good draught beer which is obviously very well kept and maintained. La comida servida por un precio razonable. Los dueños son un montón de craqueo! Hombre del bar llamado Josh fue muy amable e hizo que mi visita sea agradable. 100% lo recomendaría a cualquiera.

Nice food, interesting specials including local seafood, bit pricier than other pubs in the area, you will probably need to book a table at weekends.

The food was great - some of the best chips I have ever had and served quite quickly. Location not the best (by the side of a busy road) but as we went there for a meal and not for the scenery, that didn't matter.

Olde world charm - but clean and modern at the same time!Although the pub retains its historic character it has not been left in the past, clearly a lot of investment here and it shows.Clean and nicely decorated toilets (the gents is still being finished I think??).Large bar area with a wide selection for every taste - good pint of Harvey's.Decent size car park to the rear.Nice........

Went into try here a couple of weeks ago,it was so friendly &welcoming &lovely fire burning we had a couple of drinks then went back in that weekend, got talking to landlady & landlord, they really seem like they are going to make a go of it ,everything is spotless,it's so good to finally have a decent pub in herstmonceaux!! We are going to pop back in when they hopefully start doing their pizzas. They will deffinately give other pubs nearby a run for their money,as it was packed the other week with the rugby& I know the other pub has rugby on but not busy at all ,this is deffinately my favourite of the two!!

I stopped here for lunch one Saturday for a quick bite on route somewhere. My daughter only want for Calamari - no sign of any batter, just skinny deep fried squid rings which had picked up the brown colour of the oil they were cooked in. My son and I had the Fishermans platter. Presentation was good, but the execution of the different parts was poor. We had the same dark brown fried squid rings, the whitebait did not appear to have been fried, it was just a warm and soggy clump. The batter on the white fish may have been a beer batter, but if so, it tasted of very stale beer.My wife had the lasagne which was probably the best, but just a bought in frozen reheated version. When we left we could see in the kitchen. The gent cooking was just in jeans and a t-shirt, not even an apron which added to my concerns of professionalism.Maybe it was just an off day that we visited based on the other comments, but they were still happy to take £45 for a meal that we left most of.

Visited this pub with my sister and mum, looking for somewhere with character and still retaining traditional features. Friendly welcome by staff and good choice of food, well priced and not too expensive. Had steak with pepper sauce and this was cooked to my liking. Sister had hunters chicken and my mother had liver and bacon, plus a choice of deserts. We were very pleased with our meals and will go there again to sample the menu. Jane B

We visited this pub restaurant for my wife's birthday lunch as they offer a comprehensive senior menu. The prices were very competitive for today's fiscally challenged pensioners! The food was good and served in ample portions and the staff were helpful and polite, even turning down the dreaded canned music for us! Inside the pub there is a nice atmosphere and an olde worlde charm as befits a building of this age.We had the hunter's chicken which was excellent. Three courses will really satisfy you. The drinks are slightly on the expensive side, a small mixer being £3. However, all in all a very good experience and we wouldn't hesitate in going back.

The Brewers is by no means local to us or indeed to any of our family but it has become our destination of choice for family lunches. On my father's recent birthday a group of 8 of us, ages ranging from 16-76 gathered for lunch. As we walked in the landlady beamed at us and said "Hello, they are through there", despite several other groups dining that day and a crowded bar she not only recognised us instantly but connected us with our group none of whom had visited the Brewers more than once before. Everyone ordered different meals and all were thoroughly enjoyed with the teenager declaring "probably the best burger I have ever eaten". The fish pie has been a hit with all who have tried it and my personal favourite is the liver and bacon. Whatever your food taste be sure to go to The Brewers hungry, portions are large, everything freshly cooked and you will definitely want to save room for desert. Highly recommended and great value for money too.

We stopped here for lunch, mainly because it's dog friendly. Service was lovely and the atmosphere was good. It's a gorgeous little pub. Food was only ok.. Good menu but the meals lacked quality.

We visited your cafe for tea and cake and the customer service we received was appalling, the tables were dirty and not being cleared or cleaned. We won’t be back.

Tried the Hay Waggon, which is under new ownership. Great barbecue with seafood kebabs and amazing local rump steak. Homemade ice creams are to die for. All served up in a wonderful garden

We visited the Boar's Head Inn at Crowborough today (19/6/24) for a Wake following the funeral of a dear friend. We were absolutely amazed at the wonderful spread that was provided. Both hot and cold food. Well presented and attentive service. Excellent! We have visited for lunch meals on a couple of past occasions and have always been impressed by the variety and quality of the food. Thankyou.
