Stopped off here on our way back from Norwich on a university visit. Restaurant had just closed for lunch service but food in the bar was available. Everything from the main menu except the carvery was available. Fabulous! Steak Hogie, Lasagne with garlic ciabatta, and Katsu Curry. All good healthy size portions. Just what we needed. Great service. Wish it was closer to home to visit again. Thanks.

I visited today and asked for a bacon sandwich, I was told the chefs don’t like to do sandwiches at lunch time, so I opted for a bacon and Brie ciabatta without the Brie. What arrived was very disappointing! Literally no bacon, it was awful. The ciabatta, a slice of cake, a bottle of water and an apple juice cost me £17. If you’re travelling along the A11 between Attleborough and Thetford, I would recommend stopping at the Whiskey Distillery instead!

Fantastic second MUSIC Evening held in the Bistro Lounge. This is something NEW to our local - great evening out in its relaxed setting. What a treat, you just pre-book your Table and turn up just prior to 7.00pm to enjoy great acoustic music - for free! The Cocktails, Food Nibbles & some new Menu Choices were tried out by our table of seven - all of us were happy customers! As always, we were greeted by attentive, friendly and smiling staff. We all can’t wait for the next one!

Never Again - We have been here numerous times over the past 15 years and over the last 2 years we have noticed a rapid decline in food quality. When you pay good money in a posh place you expect better than some of the poorly cooked food we have been served on the last few meals. Too many boss's and ot enough quality checkers comes to mind! We are not alone in saying this, just today we had a conversation with friends who also agree that they have had enough of poor chewy or over cooked food and are now going elsewhere. Not good for local people!

A highly understaffed front of house delivering poor service complemented by a second rate, yet highly expensive, menu. The carvery was cold with much of the meat being dry, our drinks took an age and items off the menu were substandard. Maybe a one off but certainly not worth the price. I do not recommend this place.

We have been going here since we moved to the area about 25 years ago and have always had a great meal went tonight for the first time in a few months and I have to say how disappointed we were. We all had carvery which has climbed steeply in price, the beef was tough, the Turkey dry and the carrots raw(not in the least al dente ) the staff are trying their best but service is slow. This used to be a lovely independent restaurant but I see they have been taken over by a big corporation, which I am sure is the problem. It’s such a shame a good local business ruined by a large company. We will not be going again.

We were in the area and stopped for lunch at the Stag. Absolutely lovely, good range of tasty carvery dishes and roast meats. Best of all was the standard of service from the staff; Janine and Ashton deserve outstanding service call outs, both were attentive without being intrusive, friendly but still courteous. We'd come back just on the strength of their professionalism...especially as it was Ashton's only third time on serving duty! Excellent, both of you and great food. Smashing.

Went with the Family for a Birthday meal at 7pm in the Restaurant at Breckland Lodge. This had always been the place to go for good homemade food, however not sure what has happened, but sad to say clearly the Restaurant is now not up to what it used to be in the past. The prices were high and for me personally i struggled to find something that i felt was to my taste at a reasonable price and i am not a fussy eater by any means. I picked the Homemade Beef Lasagna at £13.50. It arrived and i agree it was homemade. It was served in a bowl and looked like it had been warmed in the microwave just before serving. The cheese on top i believe was a strong cheddar and that was the dominate taste other than the strong tomato taste. I was unable to taste the beef or any herbs. Just a suggestion when ordering the Lasagna perhaps to could add the choice of a side salad to this menu item. A choice of either just chips or garlic bead was to me strange? Having paid £13.50 for a main meal when ask about dessert i refrained as £6.95 for 3 scoups of ice-cream and any other dessert on the menu was to me not worth it. I settled for an Americano Coffee with Cream which i must say was very nice, think reading the receipt (attached) i may have been charged £1 for a tiny shot of cream? Overall it was a shame the Restaurant has changed so much, sorry just an honest review.

Brilliant meal as always at The Stag/Breckland two of us had carvery, which was fresh and a lovely choice of vegetables and their cauliflower cheese is a delight. We ate here on a Wednesday evening and was told we could have the table for 1.5 hours which should have been plenty of time. Waited 15 mins to get a drink finally someone came to take order and drinks arrived. Food was ordered and came out quite promptly and could not fault. We then placed plates end of table so waiting staff could see we had finished. 25 minutes later finally someone came and cleared the table and took dessert order. They then came back to say the manager wants us off the table. Now my issue with this was had their service had been better we would have been off that table well before the time limit. Tbf was off with the waitress and asked her to relay that to the manager but we were offered a different table - why the other party couldn’t have had the other table is beyond me. We did order a dessert but then decided actually we had had enough and just wanted to pay the bill and leave. We do normally eat here regularly but won’t be hurrying back as the service here is just getting worse every time we go which is a shame as food can be good - depending which chef is on as can also be awful !

We have been using this restaurant for many years. Our previous visit was disappointing. Over cooked poached eggs and breakfast plates swimming with water leading to soggy toast. We reported these failings to the waitress who apologised. For our next visit we had a discussion between using Breckland or using English whisky for breakfast. As the last visit was the first poor meal in many years we chose to use Breckland again. This time eggs were perfect but the plates were awash with water. Again the toast was served on the plate instead of on the a side late. Result very soggy toast. Complained to management who apologised. Next time it will be St George’s.

My wife and I had an evening meal here whilst staying in East Harling. I had the carvery and my wife had the meat free option. The pub is easy to get to just off the A11 with plenty of on site parking. It has a nice atmosphere. Staff are friendly and helpful. The only thing that let down the meal was that the roast potatoes were a bit chewy, probably left too long instead of being replaced with fresh ones. On the whole we would visit again.

To celebrate my Mums birthday (and with a fussy, gluten-free Dad to feed too) I enquired about the gluten free menu which is not online. Despite there being nothing my Dad would eat on there, the staff asked what he would eat (fish & chips) and said the chef had kindly offered to make that especially for him, so that we could all enjoy a meal out. The rest of us all had a carvery and it was excellent as always. The staff knew when we walked in that the gluten free food was ordered, and came over to tell us when to get our carvery so that we could all eat together. All staff were prompt, efficient & friendly, ensuring my Dad was aware of gluten free desserts too, would highly recommend eating there - just not at the end of half term week as a large group booking with plenty of very noisy kids turned up and made one hell of a racket until the food arrived.

Following a recommendation from some friends nine of us booked for Sunday lunch. I was encouraged by the fact that despite the fact I tried to book nearly 2 weeks before our visit that I couldn’t get a lunch table until 4pm. We arrived on time and were seated straight away. It was 20 minutes before anyone approached our table to take a drinks order. About 10 minutes later a young waitress approached us and asked if anyone had taken our food order. Everything seemed a bit disorganised. We all had starters which were nice, well cooked and presented well. 7 of us opted for the carvery. The meat was appealing visually and there was beef, gammon and turkey on offer. The potatoes and vegetables lacked any visual appeal and looked generally “tired” and suffering from later service syndrome. On the whole it all tasted ok the highlight being the meat. My granddaughter ordered a burger which when it arrived was best described as awful. The burger was so over cooked and dry you couldn’t cut it with a knife let alone chew it. In fairness when I pointed this out to one of what I think was a supervisor she accepted the fact with apologies and the offer of a replacement but the moment had passed for my granddaughter so the supervisor immediately said the cost would be removed from the bill. “Puds” were great. Overall not a complete disaster but somewhat spoilt by an air of disorganisation by the waiting staff and a lack of attention to detail on the presentation and “freshness” of the carvery vegetables.

There is a range of carveries in Norfolk running from mass feeding station carveries to classy Top quality carveries. I would place the Stag In the position of good quality. We arrived without a booking. My wife had afternoon tea here previously and said it was very good and that we should try the carvery at some point. Sunday is not the best day to arrive at the Stag carvery without a booking ! We were told the restaurant was booked up ( at 4.30 pm ) and please try pot luck in the bar area. It was so very busy we were a bit hesitant to continue but rather than give up we chanced the bar area and a table was just being vacated so we pounced ! Ordered drinks and two carveries and joined the queue. We were served very quickly, and the portions were generous. All the roasts looked good and moist and didn’t disappoint. There was unusually a beef stew ratatouille and similar other main meal options that you could help yourself to additional to a wide and mainly attractive vegetable selection. I can accept a rather gooey cauliflower cheese if particularly cheesy, but not if it’s gone past it’s best before. This was borderline together with the cheesy leeks. ( but both still tasted ok to me though !) I always Get put off if the gravy boat and sauces area is messy. This needed a bit of attention ( which it did get later) if I managed this area it would get A full time member of staff making sure it remains reasonably spotless and the floor too. Too many younger people are not to careful serving themselves! Tables pleasingly were cleared quickly. ( I have been to quite a few large carveries where there were many tables empty but piled with unsightly uneaten food and dirty plates etc. This can be extremely off putting. I do realise that we have a recruiting problem in this sector of the catering business but the clearing up cleaning and resetting of tables quickly is essential. We will go again, but book next time to eat in the very attractive main restaurant.

Disappointed Breakfast: Breakfast is served between 07:00 & 11:00am. There was only one other diner in the Restaurant. We ordered two full English breakfast’s. I ordered poached eggs, one had a hard solid yolk, the other one had a broken yolk congealed on the hot plate. Oven baked dried sausage . Baked bacon, you could snap, rather than cut. A half tomato, dried to a frazzle, with bland mushrooms. The hash browns and baked beans were the only things that were acceptable. My friends breakfast was also inedible along with the baked dried scrambled eggs. The over priced breakfast concentrate orange juice: could be bought in any supermarket for less than a pound for a litre carton. When I complained, I was given staff discount, along with a plastic apology. I’m sure that I would have been able to get a better breakfast from a roadside burger van. Sadly I won’t be returning again to Breckland Lodge in a hurry.

We called in after a visit to a local rose growers and we were given a very warm welcome by all the staff. They were incredibly busy (always a good sign) but they managed to find us a table for 2. Despite the number of people eating we were looked after very well indeed. When we went up to the carvery the chef was very busy but very welcoming and very helpful. Personally I love a carvery and this one offered decent meat and an excellent range of vegetables. However, I think the staff are the stars in this restaurant. The whole team was lovely and very good at their jobs. I look forward to my next visit.

Nice place, friendly staff and really good food. Stopped in the hotel for a couple of nights and dinner one night. The room was fine and comfortable. We had two rooms, one was the disabled easy access room, which was fine for our stay as the hotel was fully booked. There was a noise most of the night from the boiler room next door, the hotel apologised and would investigate (check if you book this room), other wise no issues. Dinner was excellent, plenty of food served and the carvery looked tempting, again the staff were brilliant.

The children’s menu is short but do offer and alternative to sausages and chips or nuggets and chips as my children like to try adult dishes but couldn’t eat the portion sizes (age 10 and 12). The food is reasonably priced in line with other family friendly restaurants.

Just had our first lunch out of our home since lockdown. We were both a bit anxious. We were met at the entrance of the car park, gave our names and contact number and assured by the very friend gentleman that there was space for us. ( I was later told by the manager Colin that this helps to prevent to many people being in the builds and outside areas, because they will not let you on the car park if not space to eat) We were guided to the reception entrance were we took our temperature and was very quickly meet by staff/ manager Colin, who kindly assured us we were safe and explained what to do and where to go. It was all very straight forward and very well managed. Colin even checked on us to make sure we were ok.Staff all very attentive. We had our lunch and was able to settle, enjoy and fill less anxious.Thank to all the staff and Colin for helping us to start to regain some normality in a very safe way. Will be back soon and would recommend anyone wanting a safe dinning experience

Nice food and attentive staff. The menu isn’t pages long but the choice on offer is simple and tasty. The waitresses and waiters were all attentive and friendly. A nice place to go. Nothing fancy and not fine dining but good quality and delicious.

Hi Visited recently for buissness. Food quality was very poor. Had the burger and when it arrived it was the same standard you would get in a takeaway. Definitely not worth the price. Service was good however and not a reflection on the staff.

Visited today with my wife for lunch. The restaurant was rammed so we ended up in the bar area. I went for the steak hogie and my wife went for the fish finger sandwich. Both looked and tasted great and are reasonably well priced. Definitely recommend and suggest booking!

We pitched up at 2pm. The stuffing and Yorkshire puddings were dry and hard. Vegetables unappetising and the beef overdone.

Amazing Sunday carvery with a choice of 3 meats and a variety of veg - disappointed with cauliflower cheese as couldn’t even get my fork in it to cut it! Everything else lovely as was the lemon tart with lemon curd ice-cream. Staff attentive. Great atmosphere

Carvery was great! So many options, and more meat options than veg which was a great surprise to us! Service waiting for drinks, puddings, and the bill was slow but can’t fault the food! They could do with playing quiet music in the restaurant so you’re not listening to other tables conversations but can’t complain for the price!

Sadly the food was very much substandard, I an very aware of the increased pressures centred around Christmas day catering but little effort was made to create a festive atmosphere and the food( in paticular the main meal and so called Christmas pudding ) was certainly well below expectation.

Arriving before our fellow guests we made our way through to the coffee lounge where we ordered 2 Black Forest gateau hot chocolates which were amazing! The service was quick and efficient without having a detriment to the standard of the drink. On arrival of our fellow guests we made our way to the restaurant which was just as amazing as the lounge! A varied menu with a choice of food for anyone who walked in! I had the steak, cheese and baguette thing (can’t remember the name), it was simply amazing! Others in our party had there usual which of bangers and mash which they say is the best going! The facilities were modern, clean and in keeping with the service and food! Brilliant!

Was heading back home from Norwich and remembered this place being very nice. Myself and my wife did not want to stop for long so we ideally just wanted the carvery. As to be expected the restaurant was fully booked, but managed to squeeze into the bar area and still had the carvery. For the price, we thought the food was excellent with a great choice of meats and vegetables. All the staff were very polite and friendly, overall the place was very modern, clean and welcoming. Will definitely stop here again for food and may even consider staying overnight.

We visited the restaurant on Saturday night there were 5 adults. The place was so noisy since refurbishment. We all ordered different meals and they were all far below a good standard. My daughter asked for roast potatoes and veg which the potatoes were so obviously frozen roasted potatoes taken from the carvery station and the vegetable also frozen were very watery and tasteless. I had a hamburger which didnt taste like a burger and the chips were undercooked. My husband had the carvery and said everythibng was so dry and had been out for hours obviously. Ther food was all taken from the carvery at the end of service I do worry what happens to it all as there was so much. Not a good place to eat at all.

We ate in the Bistro, it was clean and pleasantly decorated. when we arrived two members of staff were involved with some staff training and it took some time for them to acknowledge our presence. Once seated the waiting staff were pleasant but slow ( I think it was a case of insufficient staff) 20 minutes to take our drinks order, then another long wait to have our food order taken.

Has you can see from the photo, I had ham, egg & chips. Top layer of ham was very nice, but under that was normal cheap ham, still the meal was ok, especially as we turned up at 9:00pm and got a table

We ate here during the week. Have dined here before but not since they had a fire in one of the buildings. Service is good, I was surprised at how busy it was. We didn't book so ate in the bar area and just timed it right. They do have out door tables which are good to use if weather is nice. 1 kids meal from bar and 1 kids carvery meal. 1 adult carvery meal too. Although actual meals are reasonable, drinks and deserts add up. So a lunch for 2 kids and 1 adult came to £40.00 saying that the food was good and nice friendly staff. Would eat here again.

Recently visited the lodge for a meal. One of our party has coeliac disease and has to avoid gluten. The staff were very helpful and knowledgable. All the meals served were good value and of a high standard. In the end we all had the carvery. The meat was plentiful, the veg were nicely cooked and the potatoes were lovely. The stuffing ball was rather dry as were the Yorkshire puddings. It was good to have the gluten free gravy available. Overall a great value meal in nice surroundings.

Came here 21/08 for a carvery. The restaurant was very large and comfortable. Great selection of food on the carvery. Good portion of meat served. Staffing balls were luke warm & the gravy was way too runny, needed thickening. Overall very good. I would return.

We stayed at this hotel a couple of years ago before it burnt down and the experience then was very good. We decided to come back this year as we come to Norfolk for the 24hr 2CV race which my husband partakes in at Snetterton.

Stopped here today after finding this on Tripadvisor. We were warmly welcomed and given the option of sitting in the bar or upstairs (very steep stairs) for waitress service. We chose the Ploughman's Lunch, where you have the options of choosing 2 options from: cheddar, Stilton, brie, prawns, beef or piri piri chicken. The plates were full of colourful & tasty food; the beef was plentiful and tender. It took us ages to get through and unfortunately didn't have room gir a dessert. Another customer couldn't manage her lunch, and she was offered the option of having it packaged up and taking it home. We will be back next time we are in the area to try something else off the menu!
