The food was good and the atmosphere was great. I think the vibe of the place was somehow unique and we liked it. However, the bill is full of hidden fees that are not mentioned in advance (e.g. a fee just for sitting in the restaurant, ordering tap water and getting charged for still water despite bringing it in the jar) and not mentioning the greedy 15% discrectionary service charge automatically added to the bill. Overall, liked the food but somehow you feel slightly ripped off by loads of things that are not told to you in advance before sitting there. Somehow liked it, somehow dissappointed.

The overall atmosphere and vibe of the place is great, it's almost considered a special place because it has a classic feel, overall I recommend it for a try, I tried the food, I tried the curry with rice, it was excellent, they have a band playing jazz from 7:30 in the evening, the best tables for watching are between 55 and 59

My 5-year-old daughter suffered severe food poisoning after consuming fish at Zedel - truly horrific experience. I've chosen to wait before writing this review, as I've been eating at Zedel for years and wanted to rule out the possibility of a stomach bug and also see what their response would be. I'm certain it was the fish she consumed at the restaurant as it's the only thing different she ate with us that day and no one else in our family has had a stomach bug which are usually very contagious. The fish smelt very strongly when it came to the table and its texture did not look right. She was sick a total of nine times until 4 am, with unmistakable traces of the fish, until her stomach was entirely empty. This was a real ordeal for us all and left her exhausted in bed for the next few days. I reached out to the restaurant, regrettably, Zedel's response was extremely disappointing. They've failed to provide any concrete information regarding how they investigated the matter - the management team have since ignored my emails. This lack of accountability is deeply concerning.

A Grand Introduction to French Cuisine! Brasserie Zedel was the perfect place for my first experience with French cuisine, and it did not disappoint! I decided to stick with more traditional options, starting with Jersey Rock & Loch Ryan Native oysters, along with Escargot with garlic & parsley butter. For my main, I chose the Grilled Fillet of Sea Bream—just in case I didn’t enjoy the other two. Since I had never tried oysters before, the taste was new to me, but I definitely want to try them again as they seem to be an acquired taste. The waiter recommended pairing them with champagne, which I really appreciated, as it helped me get the most out of the experience. The escargot and sea bream were fantastic, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the snails! The atmosphere was absolutely incredible. When I posted pictures, some people mentioned it reminded them of the luxurious interiors of the Titanic, and I could see their point—the classic, grand decor really added to the experience. Overall, Brasserie Zedel was an amazing introduction to French cuisine. The setting, the food, and the experience all made it a memorable visit, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to try traditional French dishes in a stunning environment!

Food was decent lentil starter and dressed crab very tasty. Confusing as to why we received menu in French but later menu in English for dessert. The waiter we had was shocking he clearly didn't want to be there non existant service. It didn't help we were at the back next to kitchen door snd Station waiter dropping cutlery and barely doing his job. As you have 15% Service charge this should be reflected on the service your guests receive. Busy for a Monday evening. Toilets needed attention just overall disappointed.

Spectacular place, worth a visit to the Brasserie or the American Bar. The food is anything but spectacular. The price and descriptions in the menu do not fit the food. I had the prawn and avocado cocktail and the set the low standard, it seemed to have been made from an old Heinz salad cream acidic and relatively tasteless. The prawns were low quality frozen ones. The coq au vin was totally bland as well. Other people’s meals were equally unimpressive. Great shame as the atmosphere was excellent and I would have liked to make it a regular destination.

Oh no — Brasserie Zédel has gone downhill! I came last Thursday 27th February. The first thing I noticed was poor reception at the cloakroom. The woman was completely frosty and acted like she couldn't care less. Not at all welcoming! To cap that, upon returning my items later in the evening she didn't remember my bobble hat – luckily I remembered and she went back a second time... The restaurant had an unfriendly, unwelcoming woman on the door as well – acting as though she was thinking, 'What are you doing here?' (despite the fact that I was among rhe smartest dressed). She was completely without a smile – totally unlike the brilliant, warm welcomes I've had from men on the door in the past ten years. Maybe psychology is at play (!) but the welcome should be consistent. Then, for the first time ever, I was moved from my table after two hours, but as I was by then alone I didn't mind too much. It was just surprising as in the past I've always stayed all night (despite the bookings being only for two hours). The guys at the bar were very friendly and looked after me, which was nice. And I always have something to read with me. It just added to an 'off' evening. I had the prix fixe with two courses (chopped steak americain, and rhubarb coupe). I'm a seasoned and keen cook, and would say the spinach was lacking flavour; it needed nutmeg and lemon. The peppercorn steak and frites were delicious, each cooked perfectly (perfect 'medium' steak and a fab crunch on the frites). Unfortunately the rhubarb coupe was bland and needed a little vanilla bean or similar. In addition I had expected a warm dessert not an ice – I have sensitive teeth. The menu doesn't reveal that it is very cold (I had imagined stewed rhubarb). Finally, the musicians didn't seem that great this time (I'm involved in professional music) and didn't seem to play well known songs as much as random things. It also seemed an odd sound quality that night – they weren't so audible. The dining room is superb – I always love being in such magnificent Art Deco surroundings, so I always look forward to my visits. However I really hope it's not like this next time...

The space is already loud with hard surfaces and this meant my dining companion and I could not hear each other or engage in conversation. Amazing place - now a fan of French coq. I had no idea it was there… my friend was waiting for me outside what looked like a small cafe… then downstairs and there’s a large beautiful restaurant. With french classics. It feels fancy without making you feel out of place if (like me) you’re more into casual places. We shared the Camembert which was nice. But the main was awesome! Coq au vin. Great value for money in a beautiful setting. For a three-course meal and a few bottles of red wine, we paid less than £70 per person for a group of four. The live jazz band really added to the experience. The only downside was that the floors were quite slippery, which caused both the staff and guests to slip from time to time. Brasserie Zédel is like nowhere else in London. Charming and welcoming, Zédel oozes style and luxury in the best traditions of both French and Beaux Arts / deco style and luxury, albeit the origins are heartily English. Here's the best part. The people are nice and the theme is hospitality at an affordable price. I'm a fan. You will be too. But it's not just a restaurant. Visit the Bar Américain for a truly authentic American Bar, and book a show at the Crazy Coqs, 'bringing together all art forms in one extraordinary building, featuring cabaret, music, theatre, comedy, magic and literary events'. After a couple of liveners in the Queen’s Head, (we did not fancy standing outside the super famous and trendy Devonshire in the chill night air), we went down and down into this Zedel basement to the brasserie. The staff are friendly and attentive though not completely responsive to wit, charm and charisma! The one-page large menu card has everything you need on it, and a separate card provides the wine choices. Bread and lovely butter are put on the table and that's where we started. Top Tip - It is useful to keep the bread to mop up the various sources that come with starters. FOOD - we had French onion soup - my buddy has lived in France and said this was the real and authentic deal – rich, slightly sweet and with a cheesy crouton on top – £10, Excellent. I went with the frog’s legs - plentiful and covered in herb and garlic butter, and with a flavoured mayonnaise on the side to make sure you had enough dipping choices. I hadn't had frog’s legs in years and the subtle meat falling off the small bones and is a pleasure to eat as long as you pick it up with your fingers - it would be a nightmare to try and eat this dish with a knife and fork. £16. Then on to the mains - my body had the magret de canard from the specials menu which came with mashed potato and a wine source - £32. I went with the sirloin steak, French fries, Parisian sauce and French lettuce in vinaigrette dressing. The steak was OK - not the best and not the worst, with a chunk of gristle and fat at one end - £39 – Not the perfect dish. WINE - we went for a Corbieres Syrah, that whilst not cheap - £40, was very drinkable – body, complex enough structure, enticing fruity bouquet, and a decent follow through. Very morish. STAFF - The staff were effective, and pleasant enough though lacking in the warmth, confidence and charisma of other stuff we have experienced in London. They could do with some extra client interaction training. BILL - bread, 2 starters, 2 mains, and a decent bottle of red wine, with service - £157. If you were hosting a visitor to London, then this place will impress them. At £80 ahead it is not for every day, but I must say, I liked the experience. Recommended.

Before enjoying an afternoon opera performance, we had a delightful lunch experience. The restaurant's décor was luxurious and stunning, yet the pricing was remarkably affordable for central London. We opted for a 3-course Prix-Fixe menu, which, including a 15% service charge, cost ONLY £23.66 per person. As it was a friend's birthday, the restaurant presented a dessert plate with "Happy Birthday" written in French and complimentary macaron, which were delicious. The service was exceptional—staff were warm, attentive, and passionate about their work, making us feel thoroughly welcomed. While the food's taste wasn't extraordinary, it was decent and offered excellent value for money in London. I would highly recommend this spot to friends and would gladly return when visiting the opera nearby again.

Beautiful French restaurant in a 1930s style venue, one of a kind. To be able to dine, you need to book about a week in advance, especially for weekend evenings. Dinner includes French dishes and the evening is accompanied by live music, mainly jazz, until 11pm which is also the closing time of the kitchen. The dishes are good, well made but nothing extraordinary, but suited to the price of the evening. I recommend a visit to this Brasserie if you can spend at least £50 per person (the service is not included in the menu prices).

It was good to see this large restaurant full for lunch on Valentine’s Day. A nice atmosphere, enhanced by music from the resident pianist. My wife enjoyed a light three-course lunch from one of the set menus, plus a glass of wine, for just £27.95 - the celeriac salad was nice, followed by perfectly-cooked sea bream; the lemon meringue tart, understandably a cut-down version of the same dish offered on the main menu, was ok but it must be said that the pastry was too thick. I enjoyed the Choucroute Zedel but be warned! It is a pretty substantial dish, so not for the faint-hearted. One minor niggle where they fell short of the usual standards at the Wolseley Hospitality Group - nobody at reception acknowledged or thanked us on departure, and it was not because they were engaged with other clients. A minor negative which just shows how high their normal standards are!

Super nice setting, it doesn't look much from the outside but once inside, you discover a very pretty dining room in the basement. The staff is super friendly, we stopped there for dinner with our children, there was a band playing News Orléans, the decor and atmosphere are great. On the other hand, the establishment is extremely noisy, the children had difficulty getting used to it and the menu is not crazy. I find the contrast between the place and the menu quite funny, in fact, it is a bistro menu in a beautiful establishment. Finally, we liked it, what we ate was good. To give you an idea: 2 beef tartares, fries, salad + 2 minced steaks in pepper sauce with fries (the children said they had never eaten a steak this good 😅... Thank you...) + 1 draft in 25cl = 101€ I find that for central London it is quite competitive. The staff is super friendly.

When I first arrived at Zedel, I was excited to enjoy the experience as I was really impressed with the design and ambience of the place. Unfortunately, my experience was tainted by a waitress who has an attitude, standoffish, and overall giving out a negative vibe. I noticed her attitude right from when she served water, but I decided to put up with her until the end because I didn’t want to be rude by asking for a different server. It’s disappointing because people like this don’t seem to realise the impact they have on other people, how they ruin their day, how they affect their employer's business and hurt the restaurant’s revenue, because 1. I won’t be returning, 2. I won’t be recommending it to my friends or anyone else, including friends of my partner and my partner who dined with me, and 3. Imagine how many other customers have had the same experience who simply put up with her or kept quiet and never returned. Perhaps it would benefit your business greatly if you only consider hiring someone with formal customer service training and experience, with basic principles of good manners and respect.

I did check the website to write a complaint privately and not on here, but unfortunately I couldn't find a contact option other than to reserve so that's why I'm having to go through reviews. Firstly I have to say I've been to this venue a few times and always had a great experience. Very unfortunately however today one member of your staff completely ruined the place. Let me be clear though, everyone else there was fantastic! But at the ZL cafe there was a french (i assume french) lady working there with very short dark hair. To say that this woman is rude is an extreme understatement!! And for absolutely no reason whatsoever. It very much caught me off guard. I really regret not addressing it to get there and then, but as I was with my friend I didn't want to cause any awkwardness. I'm happy to share with the management team a more in depth explanation privately if you can give me a contact email please. Really I am flabbergasted at how she got the job there. And mostly why she chose to work there seeing that she very clearly hates being around people. Horrendous attitude!

My son surprised me and took me here for a late lunch. The decor is wonderful and the food is great and I have to say the coffee is the best but that’s where it stops being positive. The lady waitress was so rude which we tried hard not to define our lovely time together. After waiting awhile at the table we finally got menus which were in french. She throw us bread and butter with no side plates and a half drunk carafe of water. Our meals were given to us in the same manner without asking if we needed any condiments. So if you want to feel unwelcomed and treated rudely come to this restaurant.

I've been to Zedel a few times, it's quite magical, I love the art deco cocktail bar. It's expensive but for a treat it's well worth it.

I didn’t know such a beautiful place hidden below the cafe just outside the Piccadilly circus station. My friends and I had a lovely girls night out, and the set menu is definitely worth and helpful to people who’s not familiar with French dishes, like me. They also have a bar next door, we arrived early so we had some nice cocktails there first.

Lovely experience and we will certainly return. The dining room is very energetic, so if you are after a quiet night out, this is not the venue for you. The service was very attentive, and the food on the Price Fix good - although I would not describe Chopped Steak Americain as a steak necessarily - more like a cooked minced meat portion. However, great value for money, and worth a visit!

Lovely french brasserie with a live french band. Excellent service from all the staff even though they are very busy. Good size portions, great crab and beouf bergenoun, but I wish they had served the drinks with the mixers and not just poured them in at the bar as we like to taste and top up. They also needed stirring. It's a shame that such an elegant restaurant allows people to come in with these massive back packs. What do folk carry around. One woman had such a huge pack people couldn't get past her. They should be told to leave them at the cloakroom. It looked like a railway station.

January 2025. We were a party of two for dinner before going to the theatre. This was our first visit and we were not disappointed. Beautiful setting and decor. Service was excellent, despite being busy with dinner reservations, and the food excellent, particularly the Beef Bourguignon and clafoutis. We enjoyed a cocktail each, a main, side and dessert, all presented beautifully. Hoping to return soon.

Always a pleasure to lunch at Zedel. The setting is opulent, the service excellent and the delicious "prix fixe" option outstanding value in the heart of Piccadilly.

The food was average. The walnuts that came with the endives salad were oddly clumped together - by some pre-packaged binding agent maybe? Indifferent £11 glass of pinot noir, but the cheaper house red was fine. Ambiance: stylish but very noisy. Full marks for service.

The place is incredible, it has live music. Delicious French food. Try the brie and steak tartare. The service is very good, it is worth making a reservation because it was Tuesday and it was full. I will return without a doubt.

Very nice Atmosphere, well recommended there is also a nice live music show (that starts at 7pm) food was also great we ordered steak and fries with a side of soup and some French dessert, make sure to ask the English menu to know what u are getting (as u see I don’t know the name of the things we got😭) for sea food it was not great very small portion compared to price. Overall a very nice experience. I recommend 👌

Great atmosphere and service, particularly with how my son (whose birthday it was) was looked after, but I was really annoyed when they broke the fixed price parts into separate components within the bill making it impossible to easily check. Also annoyed at how they are not clear about how they distribute the service charge. Steak hache = burger and chips - why don't they explain more simply? And then, the coffee was luke warm and the ice cream serving the size of a plum.

One of my favorite restaurants in London! I visited after almost four years, and the experience was just as amazing as I remembered. This place offers flavors that closely resemble French cuisine. The coq au vin had a sauce that was a bit salty for my taste, but the chicken and steak were cooked to perfection. My favorites were the pâté pastry, salad, and crème brûlée—absolutely delicious! The pastry, part of their special menu, featured a mix of different pâté flavors, which was incredible.

Great location and beautiful setting. This place really does transport you to a decadent era and a taste of France. Service was attentive and food was good. My vegetarian main was a little dry but nevertheless tasty. Loved the dessert ‘special’. Will definitely return to this iconic restaurant. Thanks for a lovely lunch.

Like a massive cruise ship. Plates piled high in counter next to us with plastic covers over them waiting for starters to finish going cold. As soon as steak tartare was finished the mains were given from the pile waiting next to us. Talk about factory. Shame as been here before a long time ago but has seriously gone down. Ship them in and ship them out literally. Beautiful dining room with great buzz and live music but too quick.

Sorry but the mocha was just luke warm milk. Tasted of nothing so i paid for extra coffee and cocoa which your barista wasn’t happy about. Ended up chucking it. I rarely go to chains for coffee, this is one of the reasons why. All in all, rank and rude. (London strand branch)

I visited here late after afternoon to meet someone. We ordered our drinks and a portion of food. Food and drinks were appropriate. However, Mocktails/Cocktails are on higher end of price. Something which bothered me was the constant check by the servers ‘anything else, anything else’. It is like you are asking to leave. On contrary, we had to ask 3 times for the water. Rest is fine. No issues with the place, vibe and everything.
