Brasserie Blanc in Oxford

I took a friend for lunch on a weekday. We tried the fixed price menu. The food, service and ambience were excellent, as always. The restaurant was very quiet which was quite nice actually, although it is usually much busier. This is our favourite place to eat in Oxford and it’s worth the effort to get there!

Absolutely amazing. Some of the best French food outside of France. Everything was just delicious- the duck confit and pistachio soufflé was to die for. Lovely waitstaff as well.

Had a lovely dinner last night in Brasserie Blanc. Wonderful table service, with the kids entertained by the wonderful staff who brought humour and lots of energy to the service! Food was on point with the cheese soufflé, the sea bream as the stand outs. Kids meals had very good variety and very good portions! Thank you for the fantastic hospitality!

J'avais des attentes très hautes pour ce resto. Je me rends compte que c'était pas un établissement étoilé comme Le Manoir aux Quats' Saisons (l'autre resto de Raymond Blanc, l'un des chefs les plus célèbres en Angleterre). Toutefois, je m'attendais à une belle expérience. Malheureusement, ce n'est pas arrivé. L'entrée était savoureuse. Le plat principal était moyen... C'était le dessert qui m'a le plus déçu. Un soi-disant soufflé au pistache. Il y avait un goût médicinal. Le saveur d'essence d'amande a dominé le dessert. Le serveur a aussi suggéré que le chef utilise de la poudre de pistache plutôt qu'une pâte de pistache de haute gamme. Une immense déception

I recently ate here with my boyfriend and it was incredible. Staff were so lovely and the steaks were delicious. Great value for money on steak nights! Would highly recommend.

Easy to book online. Comfortable seating, though the restaurant got a little noisy at times. Tasty soup, lovely crab, indulgent chocolate delice, and refreshing berry mocktail. It’s not cheap, but it’s good stuff.

Visitamos BB Oxford, y era nuestra primera vez comiendo en BB, recomiendo encarecidamente que visite BB Oxford, todo era tan bueno, el personal era excepcional el servicio también era excepcional, la comida / bebidas eran fantásticas, muy limpias y ordenadas, no podía fallar de todos modos, así que muy bueno, para el aparcamiento encontramos un pequeño aparcamiento junto al río, a unos 6 minutos a pie de BB, volveremos a visitar el 100% la próxima vez que vayamos a Oxford, gracias BB por una velada maravillosa, esto también fue hecho un gran momento por el CEO de BB, gracias Richard. We chose from a set menu using vouchers gifted to us; we were fantastically welcomed and looked after, and all three courses were absolutely divine. The place has a lovely atmosphere, friendly and knowledgable staff, and amazing food. We will definitely be back!

Rara vez doy reseñas de cinco estrellas, pero solo tuve que hacer una excepción. Cálidamente acogido y se le dio a elegir mesas - era un jueves, así que no muy ocupado. Sorprendido por lo grande que es. Una buena selección de platos para elegir y todo a precios sorprendentemente razonables. Hay hamburguesas, pescado y patatas fritas y filetes habituales, pero también muchos platos que sería difícil encontrar en otros lugares y que en realidad requieren cierta habilidad para cocinar " Ambos comimos la ensalada de temporada con salchicha curada, patata, lardones y huevo escalfado. Luego tomé pollo frito en sartén Supreme (hueso de ala bien limpio adjunto) con morcillas, verduras (genuinamente) de primavera y una salsa de crema de jerez ligera. Mi esposa fue por la roulade de cochinillo (no dijo mucho, así que debe haber sido bueno). El servicio no fue rápido, pero por supuesto, tuvimos que esperar a que todo se cocinara. Bien vale la pena la (corta) espera. Todo estaba muy bien presentado y todo parecía haber sido cocinado desde cero. Las porciones fueron lo suficientemente generosas como para disuadirnos del postre. Enorme carta de vinos, que va desde el asequible hasta el "voy a necesitar un préstamo bancario". Lista de bebidas pre-cena que encontré extraña: principalmente cócteles y ginebras ridículas. Me hubiera gustado mis pastis de siempre, pero no se puede encontrar por ningún lado. El servicio era excelente - eficiente, muy profesional y amable. Este es el tipo de personal de espera que puede ajustar su comportamiento adecuadamente. Espero que puedan ser muy formales y discretos o bastante amigos como el cliente requiere. Un par de críticos mencionaron las mesas maltratadas y que todos están apretados juntos. Añadir un mantel, una selección de diferentes copas de vino y capacidad reducida y los precios tendrían que aumentar un poco. Comida excepcional a precios razonables.

We stumbled across Brasserie Blanc when exploring Jericho, we were very impressed. Our main courses arrived promptly, and we savoured every bite. The desert took a little longer - the soufflé was cooked to order, and looked amazing! Staff were both friendly and attentive. A fantastic place for a meal out.

Heard so much about this Oxford institution and was not disappointed. The Mediterranean Soup was dense, full of fishy goodness in a good way. I tried the Cheese Soufflé of my dinner partner and I got to admit, I might have preferred that to my soup. Soups are everywhere but that soufflé is hard to find. For my mains I had the Pan Fried Sea Bream. Crispy on the outside but juicy in the inside. The bouillabaisse sauce and sauteed squid complimented the fish really well. Enjoyed this.

Great restaurant always a pleasure going & very rarely disappoints! The service is speedy without being unfriendly, the food is imaginative but very tasty. It is slightly more expensive but worth it. .

Great food, great service! All 4 of the wait staff were good with serving me and my mother but I was particularly impressed by the manager Jules with his knowledge and enthusiasm - when I confessed to being in the dark about wines, he didn’t judge: he gave me samples of a red, rose and white each for free before I ordered a glass of the Piquepoul! Now that is service!!! Unfortunately several of my original mains options weren’t available such as the lamb shank and confit duck but that wasn’t a problem for long. Jules quickly found me alternatives to recommend such as the sticky beef shoulder and rack of lamb specials! And he made sure we knew it wasn’t available because of the time taken to slow cook and fresh stock that isn’t held for long. Quality is taken seriously here, it shows in the food they produce. Taste, texture, presentation, all there! Lamb being grass fed is another good sign by the way, difference between that and grain is night and day The best thing? It’s surprisingly affordable for a high end French restaurant that prides itself on fresh, good quality food! I don’t know how it compares to other Raymond Blanc restaurants but this one is good enough for me, that I do know This meal was exactly what I hoped to get out of a late Mother’s Day outing. Safe to say I’ll be back to try other menu options! Compliments to all staff involved!

Ho hum French bistro fare except for the genius Pistachio Soufflé

We’re regulars in BB and always love coming back. Lovely food, staff, service and value for money that can’t be beaten. I’d highly recommend it!

I have never had any kind of bad experience here. It really is "Le Manoir Lite" with Monsieur Blanc' influence everywhere. The standards are high and it is good value

The waiter was extremely rude. I went for lunch and there was a 3 course special. I asked whether instead of having a dessert (the last course) I could swap it for another starter (first course) and the waiter looked at me with this sarcastic stare and said "well, what do you think?" ... I said "I am not too sure, that is why I am asking you the question....." and then he just said no, huffed at me and walked away. His behaviour was so bizarre. His attitude ruined the atmosphere. My food was also mediocre. Don't get the steak. I would not go again -- especially if that waiter is still around.

Arrived slightly early, to be told we would need to wait for our booked time (no issues with this) and it may be best to go for a drink. Came back 6 min past our booking time (T&C say table will be held for 10 min) to he told our table was given away as it was 10 past our booking time. When this was challenged, front of house agreed to this point. Acoustics Within the main eating area is very poor, as such people raise their voices to talk. Food was “ok” but nothing special. Over view, people attained due to the brand, there are nice places out there where the customer service is better.

Probably our 'go to' restaurant in Oxford. Always reliable food service and atmosphere. Went along to the special 'steak night' offer and got two bottles of house red for free and it was very good. Shall choose it again next time.

Friendly welcome on arrival. Outstanding and charming service throughout. A lovely place to enjoy a Sunday lunch with special deal menu. Excellent cocktail and wine list. Every dish was delicious. We actually ordered most of the starters to try out between four adults. The main courses were also well presented and very tasty. The chalk stream trout was particularly good. Our young grandson joined the party and a high chair was already in place. BB has an excellent children’s menu. He was made a big fuss of and although a bit young for the colouring pad and crayons, it was a nice touch. He really enjoyed the mozzarella fries, once cool enough to eat. This atmosphere was buzzy and this was an all round child friendly experience, which made it more enjoyable for the parents and grandparents. Most enjoyable

Popped in for the set menu before 6pm and it was absolutely delicious and very affordable at £23.50 with a free gin included! Lovely atmosphere and decor inside, with friendly and attentive staff. Definitely worth dropping by for some food if you're in the Oxford area :)

Fantastic family Sunday lunch. Food was excellent - the beef was literally melt in the mouth! Service was also excellent with the staff being warm and friendly. They were really attentive and accommodating of the food allergies in our group too. Although the restaurant was busy the staff were attentive but didn’t rush us in any way. A really lovely, relaxing Sunday lunch. Would highly recommend and we will definitely return!

Wholly disappointing. The food was very underwhelming. Guinea fowl was like cat food and the salad lacked any personality. Not worth the money. There are better options, locally.

Our first time here since the renovation and I remembered the food as good before but today left me a bit disappointed. Firstly, the service is slow - we came just after 12 and there were 2 or 3 tables before us but it took over half an hour for the main to arrive. Maybe they were waiting for my son to finish his carrot sticks but no-one asked if we wanted the food to come together. Also the prix fixe menu was not offered until I asked. Secondly, the food is just not as good as I remembered. I got the hake and it was something I could have made at home, it was a piece of fish on some lumpy mashed potatoes and there was no salad or any vegetables that came with it. I almost asked if part of the dish was missing as it was so small. But mostly the flavour was just not delicious. Maybe I'm expecting too much. I got the trifle for dessert, which had good rhubarb,very good honeycomb (wish there was more) but the sponge was so hard I could not go through it with my spoon to get to the jelly... But the scariest thing for me was there was a large bone in the trout from my son's kids meal. I only discovered it when he gave me his piece. When I told the waitress to inform the kitchen, she just shrugged and said these things happen... Please check the fish more thoroughly, especially for kids meals, as children could hurt themselves on the bones and cause a great scare for the family. It still gives me anxiety now hence my urge to leave this review.

Lunch weekday. Food formulaic, safe rather than interesting. OK steak, frites a la McDonalds. Treacle tart too dry, not at all treacly. Should ooze. Service without a smile, in an empty room with staff hanging about, I had to go to the waiters station to order a drink, since no one came to us. You eat better at the Perch, or Magdalen Arms. And at both those places, non-Gallic smiles and you are made welcome.

I LOVE the pudding level up and the starter plus the main meal! 😀 BEST THING EVER!

Comfort food with great service and lovely ambience

We had an absolutely excellent lunch..the cheese soufflé starter and my trout main were particularly good. An excellent Malbec to accompany this. Very good service and overall a pleasant and welcoming ambience. Will definitely return here on our next visit to Oxford.

We went for a late lunch and had a wonderful meal. The menu is well thought, there were very good choices. We both had hake grenobloise which was very tasty. Service was exceptional and we both enjoyed ourselves thoroughly.

Place is nice. I had Christmas Lunch here. It was really tasty. But please do not trust the pistachio soufflé comments below. I saw them and went for it. It was not “to die for” tbh! It had a weird sour taste like some syrup. I think if they use a pistachio cream instead of syrup, it may taste amazing. It looked amazing, it is just okay in taste. Sorry guys!

Had a wonderful lunch here, I haven’t visited for some years. The food was first class, delicious and filling French onion soup and my pheasant casserole was cooked to perfection. My son enjoyed his chicken equally. I thought it was exceptionally good value even without the January discount. Will definitely return more frequently.

Excellent food and good value for the price. Had the trout and is was cooked well, with nice crispy skin. Would go back.

Really great food and atmosphere. Staff really friendly too. There was a long wait between starter and main. We were offered a free desert in compensation which was nice. It would have been better to have been told before main arrived of delay.

Nestled in the ambiance of trendy Walton Street, the Oxford Brasserie Blanc is a really good restaurant. Consistently reliable food and staff who are welcoming and helpful. It combines the feel of a local eatery with the quality of a high class establishment. The staff do a lot to make you welcome too. A lovely night out.

Service & venue were lovely. The food was not though.

Came in today for lunch with my dog. I was greeted with ‘no dogs allowed’ welcome by a young g blond lady. When I told her it says differently on their web site she said ‘don’t believe so but I can triple check if you want?’ My response to that was no thanks, I don’t feel welcome Happy Xmas to you too, not

Brasserie Blanc hosted an NHS work party of 33 staff. It was absolutely fantastic. Great food, very attentive and so well organised.

Owned by banks, a lot of this is cooked in a centralised kitchen off site as so many chain restaurants do these days. It might improve profit but the taste has gone down hill. Not worth the hype.

A truly brilliant experience. As always, the staff spoilt us, completely Thank you, until next year. It is an extremely special place for me. X

Excellent meal. Everything was top level.

There was a nice atmosphere, some (keyword) good food options, and ok service. I was honestly quite disappointed with this restaurant overall, from the mediocre salad and steak to the lackluster steak. The best part about this establishment was the owner, with whom I had a delightful conversation after my meal, and the delicious soufflé. As previously mentioned, the quality of the food varies greatly. The steak frites were alright, nothing special; the “frites” were a little soggy as well. The salad was pretty good; I liked the addition of salty fat; it works very well with the rest of the salad. The soufflé was the best part about the experience by far; the crust was perfectly soft yet crunchy, and the inside was beautifully airy and filling. Delicious French dessert. The waitress seemed colder than I would have expected given the price. The salad arrived less than 5 minutes before the main course, which in my opinion is far too late. The ambiance seamlessly blends elements of a French brasserie and an English tea house. For that I give enormous props. Overall, I cannot recommend this restaurant for the price. If you do end up eating here, do not get the steak.

Incredibly noisey on Saturday night in back room. Totally overcrowded - squeezing in as many tables in as possible. Could hardly move our chairs - Could hear the whole conversation of the people on the next table. Felt like a school canteen - decor very bland. So loud one had to shout to make conversation. Shuffled off our table at the dot on 2 hours - everything felt rushed. Difficult to relax & enjoy the food. Would not recommend.

Very friendly staff, nice food tasty.

We had a lovely meal and the staff were very pleasant and efficient. Our train was cancelled so we wanted to catch an earlier train and the staff served our meal in good time for us to catch the train. Food was excellent and hot, well done. I always like the pistachio souffle and the chocolate icecream with it was a treat.

Host was very nice to accommodate all of us. Loved the atmosphere. Food was very good and nicely presented. Taking a star because dinner took forever. Recomend the chicken liver parfait!

Never been disappointed with a meal here ever. Menu changes with the season, bt always imaginative, tasty and well presented by knowledgeable staff.

Food wasn’t great unfortunately- venison was dry and the other food was average. Wouldn’t go back. It was no better or different- I have had better food in other small restaurants.

Went to try the new autumn menu and was not disappointed. My husband had the chicken and I had the duck with Madeira sauce. Totally delicious. Followed by the crumble. The red primitive wine was superb. Our favourite restaurant in Oxford for choice of food. Quality and presentation and the exceptional service.

A great choice for a delicious meal, staff are attentive & hard working. This was our 3rd visit and definitely won't be our last! The only gripe is the acoustics of the room making the sound of people talking feel very loud, could do with some background music to drown out the talking. Would definitely recommend to others.

Nice food but not suitable for somebody with allergies as their policy is to refuse to serve anything with "may contain" on the ingredients list, regardless of severity of allergy or reaslitic likelihood of allergen content.

We can fully recommend the restaurant. The food is excellent, the service is quick and friendly, and the price-performance ratio is perfect. The restaurant is located in a quiet residential area away from the tourist crowds, and there is a nice pub opposite.

Great place to dine Food was the best I had in a long time

Have enjoyed previous visits here and hope to again in the future but today was a disaster. 80 minutes into the meal our waitress could see that we were getting a little bit twitchy about the lack of food. She was quite attentive but was clearly being given duff information. 15 minutes after telling us that the food was just 6 minutes away she returned to tell us it was being plated up. 15 minutes after that it finally arrived. The manager did apologise and tried to claim it was because they had had a table of 8 people. I pointed out that that’s not particularly unusual in a restaurant and certainly isn’t a valid excuse. Several other tables were clearly getting frustrated too. Something obviously wrong behind the scenes. Let’s hope it’s a one-off. Didn’t stay for dessert because we were getting cramp from sitting down so long.

The staff responded quickly to our pre-dining requests: extra guests, later time, request for special table seating - all were dealt with quickly and kindly. We were welcomed warmly, the food was delicious and care was taken with potential allergies. The only slight criticism is that some of the dishes were a bit sparse - more like starter-size. But on the whole it was a lovely dining experience, and the service was first-class.

Nice setting- they’ve re decorated so lovely ambience. Great menu options- delicious food. Would recommend! (Only criticism was that the champagne by the glass served is not great!)

Amazing value for money, went with a large grouo. The steak was well cooked, the trout was delicious (probably my favourite). The cheese soufflé was Devine.

Just delicious food with a range of options for everyone. The Apple and Gooseberry crumble desert is a total victory and not to be missed. Just shows how rubbish supermarket apples are!

Nice French, approachable brassiere with an okey wine list and an extensive manu to cater for most people’s taste. Atmosphere is classy and nice whilst service is familiar and welcoming. Had cheese soufflé for starters and the duck confit. Both, well-prepared dishes, although nothing out of the extraordinary. - Value for money? Yes - Worth a detour? A small one - Best for (occasion)? A classy night, on a budget. - Would I go back? Yes

Absolutely delicious. Had the duck and it was wonderful. Creme brulee was fantastic as well. Prices well worth the quality of the food!

Booked on the basis we had a 25% discount from the website which was never emailed over. The waitress explained there was nothing they could do on the matter. We were forced to go to our other choice of French restaurant down the road which did NOT disappoint. Staff asked us to pay for a bottle of water as we left. We didn’t touch/open the bottle, this was the final icing on the cake. Wouldn’t return.

Went to celebrate my 70th birthday having received a Virgin Experience Gift. Wonderful food and service. No recognition for my birthday though, lol! Restaurant decor / building a little tired. Still worth a visit.

We have no complaints about service, friendly staff and food. All excellent. Unfortunately the noise is deafening. Someone needs to deal with the decor to put dimmers everywhere to absorb the sound. Ceilings, walls and floors all could be padded to an extent to make it a better experience.

Food was lovely, but wait time was awful. They say they’re family friendly, but asked me to keep my 18 month old quiet as he was too noisy! If you are a family AVOID!! So utterly disrespectful and disappointing

We had an excellent meal, my wife had the steak, I had the duck. Both meals were superb. The service was exceptional, both of the waiting staff were very friendly and funny. Made it a really fun evening

A treat of a meal out to a place we wouldn't normally visit. Service was good save for 1 or 2 misunderstandings. However the food was disappointing, edible but without any wow factor. One of our group had the bouillabaisse, which to me had an unpleasant smell and not much body. My beef was pleasant enough but rather meagre in portion size. I had the feeling the kitchen was merely going through the motions. Oh well back to Nandos for me.

Oh wow, what a fabulous place Brasserie Blanc Oxford is! Beautifully appointed restaurant, immaculate and friendly staff. Michal made us so welcome and treated us like old friends even though this was our first visit. It certainly won’t be our last! The food is delicious and very well priced. We visited mid-week and there were only a few empty tables. Very lively atmosphere. Only down side is that it was a bit difficult to hear each other as we are both a bit deaf. A very lovely evening which we shall remember for a very long time.

Great service, very good food generally and comfortable surroundings. The only thing that prevented a 5 star review was the woeful attempt at custard - vegan for some strange reason, it tasted like almond milk with food colouring and thickener of some sort . Vile! Our server agreed. Overall, though, this is reliable place to get a good meal at a fair price. Will return.

Just what we wanted. Perfect steak, wine and service. Very good selection of starters. Enjoyed the pea and broad bean salad with crispy goats cheese (would have loved a couple more croquettes). Snails were just excellent. Soufflé very tasty. The chateaubriand was perfectly cooked and came with fries and a salad. The choice of wines was also very good. We liked the Syrah-Merlot blend (think it was). Service was also very good. Really can’t fault this place. Very highly recommended

Excellent food, pleasant service, lovely atmosphere! We enjoyed dining at this restaurant during our trip to Oxford. There were mostly locals and very few, if any, other tourists. They were helpful to accommodate my food allergy.
