We stopped here on the way back to Scotland after a few days in the Dales. It was a late lunch and the place was about a third full. The staff were friendly and welcomed us in. Decor is like a homely. The menu consists mainly of local dishes, but I just went for the cheese and mushroom toastie, and a latte. The cheddar was pretty much what you'd expect, with a tangy and robust taste. To be honest a toastie is hard to get wrong anyway.

I will try to keep this brief… Latte is the worst I have had ! Ever! To be fair we were greeted by a lovely girl, very pleasant and polite but that’s where it ends.. After raising a constructive criticism towards the lattes we received, the owner/chef launched his very rude opinion on my view of very sub standard coffee! This place relies on the passing motorist, traveling between the dales and the lakes, as what looks to be a potentially nice place to take a break. This man does not care one jot if you have not received satisfaction as he knows there will be many more people passing to keep this joker in business 👎🏻

At about 2.15pm last Sunday, my wife and I called in for lunch. The car park was nearly empty. On our way to the brassiere we saw a sign saying ‘please be patient we are understaffed’. We went upstairs and waited at the sign ‘wait here to be seated’. We never got passed that sign board. Whilst waiting there were four young members of staff stood nearby they were talking amongst themselves. Not one of them said hello or even acknowledged our presence - in fact a young lady walked past us still without acknowledging our presence and went downstairs. After waiting for several more minutes we decided we were probably invisible to them and decided to leave. The whole experience was surreal, we won’t try that place again.

3 OAP s went for coffee which was fine but we also ordered 2 toasted teacakes which looked more like scones with 2/3 currants in them also ordered french toast with bacon when come out bread was floppy and looked if it had sat in oil all day with hardly cooked bacon we sent this back only to be handed back with horrible extra fried bacon when we complained we were told they had been very busy only us in. The three young girls thought it was highly amusing we complained. Didn't get anywhere so asked for manager's name and telephone number have rang him no end of times no reply. The food is expensive enough without this type of behaviour but u r only as good as you are taught I'll say no more

Friendly, helpful staff. Food was poor. Bubble and squeak rosti was mainly carrot (which wasn't mentioned on the menu) making it far too sweet. Fish finger sandwiches were a little on the mean side with the fish (although very tasty), portion of chips was rather small for the money and very soggy. On the whole poor value for money for us so won't be returning.

I took my mother for lunch for the 12.50 winter menu special. Upon arrival a pleasant gentleman showed us to a table, explained the pork stroganoff was on the menu despite it not been written on one of 2 boards. A lady came over to us after a few minutes, we tried to order said pork stroganoff, but she was unaware it was on the menu. (Seriously, fixing 2 chalk boards, would've taken 5 minutes guys). It looked like she was texting when she asked for our order, but it must be an ordering system, anyway she couldn't work it. We then ordered our puddings at the same time, a sticky toffee pudding, a strawberry shortcake sundae and 2 teas (hot drinks included in the 12.50 deal). She was having problems remembering our very short order already, despite having to input it on her screen, not a good sign. Teas came quickly. The main meals took a while to arrive. Meanwhile things were not looking good as we looked to our neighbours, one lady had sent something back and needed the whole meal replacing. One guy was wondering where his soup was and another couple had been promised that their chips were coming, yet half way through their meal some rather DARK coloured chip specimens arrived. It was not busy. There were 2 front of house staff on and 2 chefs. Pork stroganoff arrives. Myself and mother both quickly discover the pork was chewy and fatty and had not been cooked in the sauce, other than arriving in the sauce. Pork stroganoff is normally soft and melts in your mouth. It had zero flavour. We thought it may have been sunday roast leftover pork. It was bad, whatever the deal on it was. At this point we were hoping for a staff check back, but none occured. Mains eventually got cleared and we were asked if we would like anything else, great system of ordering puddings on the 2 course menu only to discover front of house didnt have a clue. Anyway, the STP was very scorched on top, nowhere near enough sauce with it. Mums so called strawberry shortcake sundae, had zero strawberries in it or on it. It was the most sickly sweet vile 'dessert' we had ever come across. Neither pudding was finished. We left for the desk to pay where the gentleman asked if we enjoyed our meal, he seemed somewhat suprised when we said it was ok, just ok he said, we then told him the pork was pretty poor and chewy, had we had more time, we'd have said how vile the strawberry free sundae was. He then said he'd take something off our bill, but somehow we still paid £25.70, So they'd not even managed to price the 12.50 meals correctly! Neither course was satisfactory. I certainly wouldn't have paid more than a fiver for chewy pork and burnt sticky toffee. The tea was the highlight of the meal. Don't think we'll be back in a hurry/ever.

Stopped here during a tour of the Dales. The sandwiches were lovely. If we had more time I’d have ordered a cake or the vegetable rosti with fried egg. The entire menu looked good, and was reasonably priced! Decent parking, and a lovely modern and clean eating area. Can’t fault the staff. The only thing we didn’t like were the signs everywhere demanding masks be worn. (We aren’t anti maskers, and have been vaxxed, for context.) But every. Single. Blackboard. Had a “wear a mask slogan” on it. The one behind us asked us not to leave our seats and “raise our hands” for assistance. To be clear, we saw similar requests in every eating venue during our holiday. But this place bombards you with signs. We’re not 5 year olds and we’re not going to raise our hands for assistance. I understand the fine line that business owners must find themselves on - staying open safely, vs being shut down because of an outbreak. But I didn’t feel I could leave my seat without being reprimanded during my lunch visit. I wouldn’t get up and look at your lovely cakes because I felt I needed to ask permission.

We had a great brunch here a few years ago but a v disappointing return visit. Mushroom and tomato with toast was exactly that - a large barely cooked mushroom and a very average tomato that was so undercooked we had to send it back, with too little butter to cover both pieces of toast. Eggs Florentine came with raw spinach - v odd and didn't work at all. Order of 2 poached eggs came as just one. It's a shame - the location is lovely. I hope it's a temporary blip, perhaps readjusting to post-Covid, but we won't be rushing back.

I arranged a lunch for seventeen people, all of whom were members of an older persons' club, some of whom were frail and one was confined to a wheelchair. The menu was a limited, fixed price one with what seemed to be an interesting range of dishes. All choices were pre-booked, and the restaurant staff were aware that the lift would be needed. Two members of the party used the lift to the restaurant and it then stopped working. We were told that the man who deals with lift problems was not at work that day and that there was no one else available who could deal with the problem. As a consequence, five members of the party, including the wheelchair bound person, had to leave and look for lunch elsewhere. We pride ourselves on being an inclusive club and to highlight handicap in this way was distressing for us all.Lifts do break down, but in the circumstances where the restaurant was aware of our need for the lift, it was inexcusable that there was no one on hand who could help, and no emergency phone number to contact someone who could help. Furthermore, several dishes on the menu were disappointing. For example, the steak and kidney pudding was bone dry when cut open, the 'rich gravy' was thin and the vegetables were not roast carrots; the blue cheese rarebit was made from ordinary yellow cheese. All in all, a pretty dreadful experience. I emailed the manager on my return home and used both the email address on the restaurant's web-site and a different one he had given me when the menu was being put together. I have had no response. Even if neither email made it through cyberspace, staff - and the two waitresses did their best to be helpful - would have told him about the lift debacle when he returned to work. An apology would have been nice. A fortnight is too long to wait for one, and so I am posting this review here. Customer relations do not seem to be this restaurant's priority.

Prices are reasonable and tough main menu is a bit limited, there is a good selection of "specials". My wife and I had the pork steak. A good size and well cooked piece of meat, nicely served by friendly staff. Our only complaint is that the chef went overboard with the pepperoni sauce. Everything was drowned in the sauce, which then became the only thing you could taste.

Firstly my order came out with ham on it which is definitely not eggs Florentine. I sent this back and my order duly came back with uncooked raw spinach on. The spinach should have been wilted and the chef obviously could not be bothered doing this as he was probably rushing to get the correct order out. One of the poached eggs was also undercooked so all in all not a very good experience!

Soup was thick, carrot and coriander which seems a staple these days.....smooth tasting and hot....but with a lump of bread too much for both of us that ordered this. My main was a slice of pork fillet and chopped potatoes...which with sauce seemed a trifle costly at nearly £14....should have checked. Friend had dish with lots of gravy in it plus the waiter's thumb as he leant across the table to serve....! He wasn't very well trained as all my dishes were handed across my partner's dishes instead of him walking around to where I was seated. Little things but....you either do it right or not at all.

Nice setting and friendly service. Good choice of 5 specials, for each course, plus limited standard menu. Our bacon and Wensleydale salad (starter) and Yorkshire Rarebit (starter) both excellent as were the Apple & Blackcurrant crumble and Sticky Toffee pudding desserts. Didn’t need a main course! Choice of hot and cold drinks including alcohol. Free tap water came with lemon slices. Average prices. Free wi-fi.

We have driven past this place many times and never stopped before, but was absolutely bowled over by the quality of the food. The chef runs an open kitchen, which was so tidy and organised. I can honestly say we had the nicest meal we have had for a long time. The Crab Ravioli was delicious, most chefs ruin crab with chilli, but this was with chives and really really tasty. My husband had the lambs liver and even licked his plate afterwards.

I called in for breakfast with some friends today we had a delicious breakfast. I had French toast and my friends decided to try the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on granary toast, it was lovely. The coffees were equally as enjoyable as the food and the service was efficient and professional.

Food here was good, coffee good, sadly service was very slow and we had to ask to be served some time after being seated and having already had to ask for menus.

Not very welcoming at all, not for families with children but more for people of a retired age who like to sit in silence. Everything seems like an effort for them. I’ve visited some of the nicest restaurants in the world and still struggle to realise why establishments get it so so wrong! Avoid unless you want to come somewhere with zero atmosphere!

So because my mother lives nr leeds we use the A65 dozens of times each year we've stopped here several times and its got worse over the years. my partner who have worked in hospitality training made a polite comment saying 'sorry but the butter tastes rancid' the waitress said 'oh i'll go check' she returned to the table and said sorry its not rancid its still in good use by date. well managment butter can be rancid even if its in its use by date and if a paying customer isn't happy if it were my business there wouldn't be any debate I simple pick the plate up and say sorry about that i'll have a word with the kitchen staff would you like a new sandwich making? a different meal? or your money for the sandwich back? the cost of 1 sandwich in comparison to upsetting 4 customers who walk out and say i'm not keen to return here is VERY BAD BUSINESS. on top of this on saturday gone when we were in there the waitress said you'll have to leave we are closing now, yet we could clearly see other people at tables still eating with no one badgering them.... Very odd.

I have become a bit disabled since our last visit and was glad they had a lift to the Brasserrie which is a big plus as is the excellent disabled facilities. Having said that it came to us both that the place seemed less cared for. I ordered a BBQ beef sandwich (but I think they called it something else) with a side order of chips. The meat was tough and did not taste of much. The chips were not what I had the right to expect as their texture was poor and they had the smell and taste of having been cooked in oil that was past its best. Unpleasant! I referred both these matters to the chef who sad the beef was marinated in a BBQ sauce and slowly cooked for 8 hours. This was to have been a recommendation I suppose but failed to resolve the matter for me it was tough and tasteless. We then started to discuss the chips but he walked away saying the oil was fine and there was nothing wrong. Impolite at best and not prepared to discuss it. We had looked forward to our journey knowing we could stop here but I suspect we will think twice.

Agree with Simon B, cannot see the attraction. Overpriced for what you get. One of us ordered the welsh rarebit which was very simple, small and unadorned; not worth the money. menu pretty restricted and "specials" overpriced pretentions. Sorry, not impressed;

Having visited here before and loved it through and through, we stopped here en route to the Lakes. From the specials board, we had the belly pork and the liver options. The belly pork was fatty and quite dry, whilst the liver was accompanied by 2 rashers of average bacon, smothered in a light gravy and with warm potato mash. No other veg here...that's a side order, aka more profit for the kitchen.

We have eaten here three times, service has always been pretty poor, but food pretty good, except this time. We all had sausage and mash, the mash was tasteless, the sausages grainy and the gravy was tasteless and very runny, so much so the young clearly inexperienced waiter spilt it on my trousers! The response to this was very underwhelming, we won’t return as clearly they feel that they don’t need to try as the have a captivated audience. Nobody bothered to come and apologise properly, we got was an oh sorry about that! No response to our feedback about the quality of the food.

If you are staying around the Low or High Bentham area, this is a must visit establishment. Food is fantastic, great array of drinks especially malt whisky’s and the staff were extremely friendly especially Tony and Molly who looked after us during our visit.
