The place as always was very welcoming the staff are always super polite and make you feel at home. We popped down to the bar for a bit of light brunch and Can not express enough the politeness of the bar staff, especially Kieran whose personal cocktail is a amazing addition to the tastebuds, it’s a must try.

We booked in for afternoon tea before going to the theatre. The service, right from the moment we arrived was fantastic and this continued the whole way though. The afternoon tea was wonderful. The savoury items were all so tasty and the cakes and scones were so fresh and beautifully presented. Would definitely recommend ☺️

Sonny was amazing. Great server. Really helpful, friendly, courteous and kind. Food great too….had the carpaccio to start followed by flat iron steak….also had a salad and roast chicken! Looked amazing. Only thing to mention was chicken was a little over salted. Otherwise absolutely no complaints and the pineapple margarita was banging.

Pretty good all around - interesting menu with plenty of variety and interesting choices available. Service top-notch too, with waiter Tiago particularly engaged and on point.

Had a wonderful time for Lunch was served by Sonny who was great and very attentive. We had some wine paired with Carbonara which was delicious. Thanks again will be back 😁

Waiter sonny was very nice throughout the meal would recommend this restaurant because of this. Food was good value for money drinks menu was a little pricey but it was an all round good experience besides that.

Sonny really looked after all of us - he went out of his way to make this a special afternoon tea and occasion for us. Raj was an absolute gem of a waiter. Nothing too much trouble and very attentive without being intrusive. The food was first rate and the wine list is sensible. Cannot rate this too highly.

Okay so the starter came cold sent it back, I had the buffalo chicken which was lovely. The mains wow! The chef needs some new recipes the salmon was so bland it was awful. The rice or rice pudding it came with was just awful. Really was not worth the money, I’ve eaten in some lovely restaurants and this just wasn’t it. However the evening wasn’t all bad as was made terrific by a lovely waiter called Bismark! He was so friendly and polite, he went over and beyond to compensate. Lovely chap and to top it off he wasn’t even our waiter. Well done Bismark, we would return just to have you as our waiter. He’s the only reason it’s 3* and not 1* it would have been 5 if the food tasted at all good.

From arrival lovely customer service, polite with smiles all around, staff were very welcoming and friendly.. Whilst seating Antonio’s has approached in a polite manner asking what drinks we would like and when unsure has asked what our favoured drinks were to help recommend with a brilliant knowledge of cocktails taking dislikes into account. The only thing letting this down from being 5 star was issues around cleanliness. On initial appearance looks clean, As you walk into the bar from the hotel lifts, you can see the material shredded and draping from under the seats, also down the side of the seat cushions left over food snacks, cocktail sticks protruding sticking out, could do with a clean between cushion areas. Also during breakfast staff blowing their nose in public then placing the tissue on the used plates awaiting to be taken out and then continuing to serve customers and laying tables.

The food was amazing! Great setting, great value for money and excellent service from Eka. Made it a great luxury yet relaxed atmosphere - we will be back!

Lovely atmosphere. Sonny was our waiter and brought over a wonderful bottle of French white and we spoke together about different wines and regions, Sonny was charming all the way through and a pleasure. We had no starter (but the artisan bread is highly recommended) then had the burger and the pasta with prawns which was phenomenal! Not your average pasta dish! Then after chatting to Sonny we decided to take our dessert to the room and it was DELISH! Best sticky toffee I’ve ever had, and the panne cotta was refreshing! 10/10 best place to go if heading to B’ham

We’ve visited Chez Mal to treat our friend for her special Birthday, and what a perfect choice! We’ve had a mix of lunch and Afternoon Tea, and every member of our party loved their choice. Food was presented in a fab way, came all at the same time, and was delicious. But the most special part of our visit was the service. Our waiter, Sonny is just the perfect host. So attentive and knowledgeable, nothing is too much trouble. He made our time at Chez Mal unforgettable. The Birthday girl has been truly spoilt with lots of special, personal touches from him. The team worked really well together, and we’ve had the most relaxing afternoon. Thank you so much Sonny and team, and we shall definitely be back soon!

Booked Sunday lunch for 6 having been before many times and having great lunches. As expected, due to Covid, the buffet starter was off so it was ordering form the 'a la carte menu'. Starters were good, mains not so. Carrots and cabbage barely cooked, only a few potatoes to go round 5 lunches, managed to get a fillet steak instead of a 'steak frite', the price was adjusted but that's not the point. Meals were not hot when they arrived at the table and took a long time to come, this is despite a virtually empty restaurant. Asked 2 different staff for condiments which eventually came after having had our meals for around 5 minutes . Staff were very friendly but clearly there is an issue somewhere. I am one to complain but on this occasion, a birthday, I chose not to as having things taken away and replaced is never good when others are eating and trying to celebrate. With so much competition in the City they need to try much harder. BTW, having an automatic % charge for service added to the bill is always controversial and is something many people don't like.Sadly, Chez Mal won't be anywhere near a choice for us in the future nor will it be recommended.

We had a dinner and breakfast package. Booked on line which was a good job as it was very busy but safe. Great service and excellent food. Started with bread which was very good, burger was very good and curry very tasty. Nice bottle of wine. Breakfast was ok, great coffee, only had cereal and toast. My friend ordered yoghurt with granola it was a tiny portion hardly worth having. The waiter at breakfast cost the place a 5 star review, he had his mask hanging around his beard and never above his nose clearly he needed showing how to wear a mask.

Nice to be back out , served by Sonny and he was as good as ever he served us last year and he was brilliant then as well , food was well presented and tasted just as good , one of my favorite places to eat

Esta vez no puedo evitar sentir que el restaurante ha perdido algo de su encanto, al igual que la comida. Las mesas se veían cansadas y tan rayadas que realmente necesitan una renovación. El servicio fue realmente lento, incluso para un restaurante que solo estaba lleno al 25% en el mejor de los casos y la comida era casi promedio (el Cr me Br le que pedí ni siquiera se había fijado y todavía era prácticamente un líquido) y todo se sintió Demasiado caro cuando hay lugares mucho más bonitos en el centro de la ciudad que son más baratos. Si fue solo un "día libre", ¡no lo sé!

Nos reservamos en Mark o pier en el buzón, pero nos dijeron 6 horas antes de nuestra comida que estaban cerrados debido a que el ascensor no funcionaba correctamente. Llamamos a Malmaison que nos reservó de inmediato, nuestra comida y servicio fue excepcional 10/10 chicos.

Ten of us dined for a 30th birthday meal.Paul took care of us and was very efficient, friendly and attentive. Sadly we only have main courses each (I would have happily had all three courses but you tend to go with the group rather than eat a starter alone and delay everyone else eating). The special main course (scallop risotto) was exceptionally good - I normally loathe risotto, far too heavy and 'clumpy' but it was surprisingly light and I ate it all, along with my side of greens.We brought our own birthday cake and there were no grumbles from the staff when dessert was refused, so thank you for that. Really I just wanted Paul to get a shout out. I work as a Sales Manager for a large hotel group and hospitality staff like Paul are worth their weight in gold. He's a real asset and clearly takes a lot of pride in getting it right, which he did on Sat 14th March

We tend to visit at least once a month for Sunday lunch.Today we were served by Sonny, he was a great waiter, even asked the chef if he could do chicken for my brother, even though it wasn't on the menu. Attentive, friendly and fun.We were a party of 4, my only gripe is one I have thought when there is just 2 of us. The potatoes and vegetables are never enough. We got one small bowl which contained 3 roast potatoes, few baby carrots, 1 piece of cauliflower, small portion of red cabbage. This was supposed to be for 3-4 people, The chicken dish had vegetables on the plate but no potatoes. The meat is excellent but let down by lack of pot and vegetables.We didn't ask for extra as we couldn't be bothered, but I think giving each person they own bowl of potatoes and vegetables would be the way to go.We will keep returning, but be great if this was rectified

Nice restaurant with modern interior and good service. Truffle fries are delicious, avoid squid rings, thin, dry, overcooked slices in a lot of batter (10% of squid, 90% batter). I’m sure other dishes are lovely.

Visited 2 weeks ago for my hubby's birthday. Had a fantastic Sunday brunch with the fabulous choice of starters and then Eggs Benedict and Roast Beef for main. Had brilliant service from Sonny and can't wait to return again soon.

We came here on 24th Feb for pre-booked afternoon vegan tea. There were two of us dining. From the moment we entered the restaurant the staff were so attentive. Some places i've been to leave me questioning how knowledgeable or bothered the staff are about the food/ drinks they are serving. Here i felt safe and confident. We were served with smiles, politeness and attentiveness throughout. The services was quick and efficient without feeling rushed. The atmosphere was lovely too.The food was well thought out - just the right amount of savoury and sweet and a nice selection - not just the usual leafy type offerings that can sometimes be served to veg/vegan diners. Chocolate stone was divine as were the two salads, hummus and wrap. Oooh! and that salted caramel smoothy...The only thing that i would have liked (and admit i should have raised it while i was there) was the lack of the Battenberg slice. Also, would be great if chef could make up/ buy in a cream replacement to accompany that perfect scone and Jam.

Honestly - Avoid this place. The food is grossly over priced and the servers are very selective in the way they treat you. I waited for an hour and half to have my order taken and even then they were very rude and treated me second class because I was dining alone. After waiting all that time I ended up having to go eat something after my meal because it was so tiny!

I booked the spa/afternoon tea package for a friends birthday. It is the best selection I have had, so much food and good value for money. We had great service from Sonny in the restaurant, very welcoming and helpful. I will definitely go again and I’d highly recommend it, we’ve had a lovely day.

My boyfriend and i visited the restaurant on my birthday, hoping the food would taste and look as good as the website states. Although the staff were friendly and the food arrived fast, it was not worth the price. The side salad did not look fresh at all, the fries looked as if they were warmed up in a microwave. My fish cake turned out to have two big fish-bones inside and my partner’s stake was well

My friend decided she wanted to treat me to afternoon tea in Birmingham. We rang up on the day and asked if there were any tables. The person on the end of the phone said she could fit us in and when we arrived we were greeted warmly by a member of staff whose name I didn't get, unfortunately. When we reached the table, Sonny came to greet us and take our options. He was very pleasant-mannered and answered any questions we had in a friendly way. The food was delicious and we both had a really pleasant afternoon.

My friend and I went for afternoon tea as a belated birthday present (which was pre booked). The different options available for afternoon tea were all reasonably priced and we opted for the Mal Afternoon Tea which had a selection of sandwiches, cakes and a scone. Sonny our waiter was very accomodating and allowed us to swap out a sandwich option. We ordering drinks, they came out very quickly, literally as our waiter left, the waitress appeared with drinks. The food came out and the options were tasty and it was all well presented. Sonny checked on our table several times in terms of what we thought of the food and whether we needed drinks. I would recommend a visit as the staff are friendly and attentive and the menu is good. Andy

We went to Chez Mal in Birmingham for a friends 30th birthday and we were not disappointed! We all had different dietary requirements and all were met perfectly. This was by far the best vegan afternoon tea we’ve had with a variety of wraps, burgers and dessert options. Our waiter Sonny was lovely, friendly and very attentive - could not sing his praises enough. Would absolutely be going back again!

stayed just before xmas. would defo return for the food. staff were either distracted or too busy (although restaurant wasnt full) as they forgot a numbers of items. drinks orders, requests for napkins etc The decor & atmosphere were decent though.

Enjoyed a brilliant Sunday brunch at the Chez Mal with friends, for our annual Christmas celebration. It started off with the amazing range of help yourself starter/salad bar and had delicious food throughout the course of the afternoon. A highlight was the device - We were delighted by the lovely and friendly French man called Sonny who took care of us all afternoon! His wit and recommendations really made the experience so much better :) live music was playing throughout which really added to the atmosphere overall. One minor comment is that the tiramisu was a bit overkill and could of done with being a lot smaller portion considering it was part of a 3 course meal, but a very minor detail of an overall great experience! Will definitely be returning again and not just for our annual meal!

What an amazing brunch. The food was amazing, and the drinks were free flowing. Waiter (Sonny) were amazing at topping up our glasses whenever they were running low without asking. 2/3ordered the steak frites which was amazing, and the other the chicken dish - also highly recommended by friend. The star of the afternoon however was Sonny. He went above and beyond and ensured we were completely looked after. So friendly and personable, he really made the day. Thank you. More than worth £30pp, will definitely be back!!

Enjoyed two courses as part of the set menu deal on an overnight stay. Service was friendly and the dishes of salmon and turkey well cooked and presented. Much prefer the vibe in the restaurant to the bar and service in the bar needs improvement.

Service was great food was delicious and prices were very reasonable. Staff could not have been more helpful and left you to enjoy your meal. Very informative about the menu.

It would be nice if you would offer people the choice of cheaper drinks with the liquid brunch as not everyone likes beer or Prosecco. Other than that I have no complaints. Food was enjoyable and staff were friendly

I can not express enough how incredible this place is! The bar is stylish with a great atmosphere and is very well stocked with the best cocktail menu I’ve ever seen! The Malchemist section of the cocktail menu includes cocktails from various chapters and the flavours are amazing. The restaurant side of Chez Mal is another level though! Again, looks wise, the restaurant is stylish and attractive with a great atmosphere. The tables are nicely dressed and the decor of the room suits the place well. The staff seat you quickly and are extremely friendly, efficient and attentive. We enjoyed various meals here during our stay including an afternoon tea, a 3 course dinner from the Autumn menu and a cooked breakfast. All the food eaten here was incredible, there’s not a single dish or flavour that I can fault, everything was just beautiful. I would like to thank Ben and Patricia specifically who worked the evening of 09.11.2019, you both made our experience dining with yourselves so special. The dining experience was already amazing, but to then be given extra desserts and a glass of champagne on the house due to it being our wedding anniversary was a beautiful touch and very much appreciated. We will definitely be returning for dinner again, and I would recommend Chez Mal to anyone. 10/10

Just been here for a 2 course Sunday lunch. Everything was wonderful, the food and service both 5* the all you can eat starters were fabulous, meats, fish, salads and bread, tempting to over eat before the main course. Had a couple of glasses of reasonably priced wine to go with it. Highy recommend it.

Había estado en Chez Mal Brasserie la semana anterior con mi hija en un ocupado sábado por la noche cuando todo estaba bien. Así que reservé nuevamente con mi pareja. . . . . . nada salió bien nuestra vajilla reservada a las 5 pm el domingo por la noche nuestro pedido no se tomó hasta alrededor de las 5. 15 pm, pedimos pan y aceitunas. . vino el pan pero no aceitunas. La sopa llegó alrededor de las 5. 45 pm FRÍO. Finalmente llegó nuestro plato principal que estaba bien, le preguntamos al camarero si podíamos pedir más bebidas a lo que respondió que volvería a hacerlo. . . nunca lo hizo, así que mi compañero tuvo que ir al bar él mismo para ordenar. La factura pagada pero no el cargo por el servicio y la liquidación les dijo que el servicio era pobre, por decir lo menos. Una mesa a nuestro lado no tenía más que problemas y un punto ni siquiera iba a esperar a los platos principales porque habían estado allí durante casi dos horas y tenían entradas para el teatro, por lo que tenían que salir a las 7 pm. Para un hotel urbano como Malmaison, este restaurante es una verdadera decepción.

Se le ofreció una selección de 4 menús con diferentes ofertas y no todos tuvieron que pedir del mismo.

I have had afternoon tea at Chez several times - it’s a great spot to catch up with friends. The staff were very accommodating and I even swapped a few things around on the menu selection to suit my needs. The afternoon tea simple and yet very delicious!

Had the Miso soup, Linguine with prawns, and the sauteed mushrooms all faboulous no photos 🤦🏽‍♀️I remembered after I polished them off 🤗 great food and service.

Husband got some kind of meal deal so thought we’d give it a try. Food was great, three courses plus a cocktail that included poached salmon, chicken lollipops, linguine, chocolate brownie and a strawberry sundae. Service was good. Nice atmosphere.
