I haven’t eaten here yet, but I am writing this review purely on the basis of the excellent non-alcoholic drinks offering. I had previously visited to enjoy their excellent coffee, but noticed on my last visit that they serve Bovito. I have recently stopped drinking alcohol, and it is so lovely to find somewhere serving ‘grown-up’ drinks that cater for the ever-increasing sober market. Thank you Brancusi. I will definitely be back.

I’d recommend making a reservation! We decided to stop by on a whim since we were passing by and hungry. The restaurant is beautiful, featuring a lovely conservatory-style skylight. Unfortunately, since we didn’t book ahead, we were seated near the front of the restaurant, by the bar. Despite the slightly awkward seating however the food was amazing, and the staff were really friendly. Definitely recommend!

We were taken here from Partisan without being asked, just told to follow a member of staff so we were a bit confused as we didn't realise it was the same menu. We had coffee and cake and it was lovely, however the coffees took about 25 minutes to come and they were lukewarm, and our plates were taken when we weren't finished. Really nice food, the service just felt a bit rushed

Came here for brunch while in York for the weekend and was blown away! My partner and I both got the full English and loved them – the quality of the ingredients was amazing, not a duff thing on the plate. Black pudding in particular was fantastic. We also both had a Bloody Mary and, as someone who is very fussy about a Bloody Mary, I had no complaints! The service is the other thing to mention here. The team were so attentive, helpful and friendly and really efficient with service. They all seemed really happy to be there too, which makes all the difference. The atmosphere of the restaurant was lovely and welcoming too, just really relaxed and stylish. Couldn’t recommend it more. Visited here as part of a weekend away in York as I saw it listed on a social media video as a ‘must visit’ and it was near our hotel. It’s really close to Mickelgate - so easy to find and get to. I didn’t realise it’s open as a cafe/brunch spot during the day, but we went for dinner around 7pm. We booked online with no problems (and I would recommend booking). The staff were warm and welcoming, took our coats and sat us in a quiet corner as I’d asked on the booking form. Tables are presented lovely with lit candles etc. the decor in general is very nice and it’s very clean and comfortable. The drinks list was great, lots to deliberate over and I was thrilled to see orange wine listed by the glass. Me and my husband had bread, starters, mains and desserts, 2 drinks each and (including service charge) came to £130ish which I think was very reasonable given the quality of the food and the time we had. We ate every scrap of all the dishes. The only thing I wasn’t overly keen on is that I found the chairs a bit rickety and untrustworthy - swapped mine with a sturdier one at an unused table after a bit just for peace of mind 😂 Recommendations from the menu would be: - the beef cheek starter - confit duck main - tiramisu dessert

In York today to visit the annual Ice Trail and as I got here early I had some time to kill so decided to get breakfast. Brancusi is located on Micklegate in York. I entered at about quarter to 10 and at that time there wasn’t too many people inside however by the time I left at half 10 I could see the venue was very popular, almost every table was taken from what I could see! As a solo diner I found the staff were very polite and they were quick to take my order. The venue was nicely presented, clean, tidy and warm since it was rather chilly today. There is also customer toilets on site. To eat I had the French Toast and a glass of Orange Juice. The food itself was nice and I enjoyed the flavours of it. Downsides, I thought the food was over priced for what you got. Yes it was nicely presented and appealing however I think it was a touch on the expensive side. The French Toast was £15 and the orange juice was £3 for a small glass! £18 in Total. The overall service was good despite how busy it was getting. Unfortunately they let themselves down when it came to the payment. I asked to pay and a waitress promptly came across with the card machine and told me it was £19.80. I was a bit confused as I thought it was lower than that and perhaps I had made a mistake. Afterwards when I left the venue I figured out what the difference was! 10% of gratuity! Now in hindsight I should have asked them for an itemised bill which is my own mistake I can accept that. Yes the service was good but it should be my OWN choice whether I decide to leave a tip. It shouldn’t be forced upon me by just being told the total to pay without being given a break down. That spoiled the whole experience for me. I recommend you give the place a try as the menu looked varied from what I saw just slightly over priced. However just be prepared to ask for a itemised bill before you pay!

This really is the best restaurant in York, especially for a good, non-fussy but extremely delicious dinner. Portions are generous, everything clearly cooked from scratch in their own kitchen using an interesting array of fresh ingredients. And my goodness, the flavours! I was directed to come here as Partisan was fully booked and I didn't have any booking. They had space for me at the bar with high chair which was not comfortable for having breakfast. I did ask for a table. The waitress couldn't offer that as she said it was for booking only though the couple after me having no booking was given a table. At that time it was not busy. Also within less than a minute I sat there before even I had a chance to read the menu, another waitress asked me for my order without asking if I needed more time to decide. I politely said I had just arrived. I ordered Egg Benedicts. It was a bit cold but there was a good taste in general. Given the cost I paid, and the atmosphere coupled with the service I got even though I was a single person customer, I would reconsider coming here but go somewhere equivalent. Booking also would be necessary to come here.

Lovely place to eat and the food was great ,but! We had booked a table for a certain time at Partisan a couple of doors down. Arrived on time, only to be told we would have to sit outside in the marquee ( it was a cold ,wet Winters day) or had the choice of going a few doors down to Sister cafe, which we did. The girl took our order, and we sat down to have a family catchup. Our order arrived and we got tucked into our meal only to be told that we only had our table for an hour! 1. Why was our table offered in the marquee, after booking it days in advance? 2.Why did we have to move to another venue? 3.Why did we only have our table for an hour? What was supposed to be a relaxed catchup ,ended up being ruined, by having to rush our food, with hovering staff, ready to clear our table as soon as our hour was up!! Won't be using again. Won't be using this venue for further meetings. Won't be recommending to anyone either! Totally disappointed 😞

Came here on recommendations and reviews for an early dinner and sorry to say not excited. To start with the positives were the great service, lovely puddings of choc mousse and apple crumble and the Rueda white wine was super. However, starters of anchovies were overpowered by a strong chilli's and the pork was average and the bed of smoked Leek puree not good. For mains we shared the monkfish tail which was OK but bit overcooked. The vegetables we had as sides were also disappointing, particularly the large plate of raw turnip covered with yoghurt. No way to pin down the menu but didn't work for me. Suspect great for the daily brunch offerings as that is where Partisan has always been superb.

Sobreprecio.

For a year, Brancusi was the restaurant in York that I was most desperate to try. And normally, this would set a person up for certain disappointment. After all, it's unlikely that after so much anticipation, Brancusi would then live up to the 'hype'. However, this is not one of those instances. This is one of those rare occasions when a person's lofty expectations have been met... My girlfriend and I had an early dinner at the restaurant one Friday in late August. It was perfectly quiet, which meant that we had the full attention of a very polite and chatty waitress. The inside of the building was tasteful. The back of the building had a glass ceiling, like a conservatory, but more upmarket. I also remember an apothecary cabinet set against one of the walls, laden with jars of preserves and pickled vegetables. Courtesy of the stunning interior and the attentive (but never pushy) service, we felt very peaceful at our little table. In stark comparison to the setting, the food at Brancusi is loud, strange, and (in some cases) completely outlandish. And I have to say, I am fully on board. To begin with, we had the pan-seared king scallops with charred peaches. It was light, delicate, and perfectly balanced. The rich meatiness of the scallops paired wonderfully with gentle, citrusy flavour of the peaches. We followed this up with the radicchio, which (in my opinion) was outright wacky. It somehow managed to be both sweet and savoury... Crispy, yet tender... I would have to say that it steered more towards the sweeter side, but I wouldn't call it a dessert by any means. In light of our earlier choice (with the charred peaches), we then transitioned to the roasted pork with roasted peaches. This was my girlfriend's favourite dish, out all those we tried. The crackling on the pork was as tough as leather, though it hid a beautifully tender cut of meat beneath. I think that when pairing pork with a fruit, your immediate instinct is to go for apples (pork with apple sauce, for example), so you fail to consider any of the alternatives. But I have to say, apples would have paled in comparison to the roasted peaches, which accompanied our pork. They were much tangier than the charred peaches from before, and they gave an interesting sweetness to the meat. Our final order at Brancusi was a crab fettuccine, which wasn't the best dish that we tried, but it was still exceptional. The pasta was served al dente and had a nice chewy texture. Whereas the crab was so flaky that it blended into the sauce, taking on a light, tomatoey flavour. Oh! And we also got a side plate of roast potatoes. They were pretty great, too. Overall, Brancusi lived up to my sky-high expectations and has become one of my favourite restaurants in York. I would especially recommend it for a date night.

Last weekend, I dined at Brancusi with friends for the first time, and it was truly exceptional. The restaurant is not only beautifully designed, but the staff are also incredibly friendly and welcoming. We started with some delicious cocktails, followed by scallops, lamb, and crab fettuccine, and finished with a selection of desserts. Every dish was outstanding—the quality of the ingredients reminded me of the food in Italy, and the chef was truly marvellous. We had previously enjoyed brunch there and loved everything on the menu, and this dinner has only confirmed that it will become one of our favourite places to eat in the future. For those interested in contemporary art, Brancusi has wonderful paintings adorning the walls, some of which are available for purchase.

GREAT place. Its sister of Partisan a few doors down - same menu and shared staff etc. basically same place. Food was excellent - had the full English, pancakes, and scallops breakfast between us. The homemade beans were great and everything was cooked really well. Coffees were so tasty - really had a distinctive flavour - some of the nicest I’ve had all weekend. Food options for all types of diet choices. Nice brunch cocktails too. Family and dog friendly. Exactly the kind of place we seek to go. My only slight feedback: the knives weren’t quite serrated enough to get through the sourdough crust. And a single (but extremely tasty) mushroom was disappointing for a £15.50 breakfast. Verging on feeling stingy on the plate.

This shop has the same menu as Partisan. I initially went to Partisan, but they asked if I was okay with going to another shop for the same menu, so I was brought here instead. The service was great though, with smiles all around. I ordered the creamy wild mushroom dish and an 82% dark chocolate drink. The drink wasn't on the menu, but it was available upon request when I asked if they had hot chocolate. The food tasted great, but I think it could be better with a slightly larger portion. It's hard to compare with another famous cafe just a few streets away, which also serves creamy wild mushrooms and dark chocolate. They taste similar, but if I were to order this combination again, I would lean towards the other place because of the larger portion.

We hadn’t booked but asked if a walk in table would be available, told yes but would need to leave in an hour. We were fine with this and chose and ordered within 5 mins of being seated. Drinks arrived after 15 mins, coffee was very nice. Orange juice was served in glasses that were 2/3 full, seemed very odd - would suggest filling the glass or using smaller glasses. After waiting 40 mins from ordering food finally arrived, at this point we had 13 mins until we were suppose to vacate the table. Began eating and found the food mixed, some items were enjoyable but the bread was very dry, didn’t receive any butter and the tempeh was very oily and had quite an unpleasant flavour. At £15.50 the vegetarian breakfast seemed very overpriced. Long waits are clearly an issue as other customers were querying how long their food would be.

TBF they were perfectly willing to substitute but someone should tell them that fresh pasta should be tender. The pappardelle were leathery and excessively thick. Big shout out to the chefs because the food was phenomenal! Best food we’ve had in a while. Definitely will be back and going to recommend to all our friends.

After reading rave reviews about Partisanal we wanted to try the breakfast brunch but it was very busy so we directed to Bransconi which is the sister restaurant next door. Unfortunately our experience was less than great. We ordered the full english breakfast. The sourdough bread toast was obviously stale and very dry, even after exchanging for an untoasted slice it was still very dry. The fried eggs were burnt. The americano coffee arrived warm with cold milk, so it ended up being cold. We also ordered a "fruit scone" which was very dry and if it contained fruit at all it was dissected to a dust within the scone so couldn't tell if it was there or not. In conclusion UNDERWHELMING and expensive...we won't be going back...

Would take a train from London to York just for the chorizo toast here. 10/10.

Ushered into Brancusi after visiting its sister restaurant a few doors up, seated relatively quickly for a Saturday Brunch, service was prompt and attentive with always servers darting about, I ordered the full English, it was very average, they have tried to over complicate a very simple dish with homemade spicy baked beans and the Smokey sausage (which had a very strange texture) delivery and presentation of the food was excellent, however a tad on the pricy side for a full English. Not a bad place but if you’re wanting a traditional full English I would avoid this place

I love Partisan and have been trying to go to Brancusi for a while. I was so excited and as hoped, my meal was just perfect. From the individual components of wild mushrooms to black tahini ice cream, to the overall flavour combinations everything was quite simply delicious. It’s exactly what I wanted, presented perfectly, with delightful service and fabulous ambience. I will be coming back with my partner but it made for a lovely solo dining experience.

Fantastic brunch spot in York with a very varied brunch menu but also including the familiar favourites. Buzzing full of people and activity on the Sunday morning we visited.

Loved it. Had a super meal with my partner (our lass), and my beloved whippet. Delicious food: Caesar salad was a big hit. Lovely no fuss service. We all felt at home, including the dog. If you want a high quality evening meal, with your gorgeous canine friend, you won't find a better place in York.

Loved it! I believe it’s the same restaurant with partisan which we have been and enjoyed very much. Full English breakfast was great and we love the portion size. The only thing is that the sour dough was tooo hard so it was very difficult to eat. We also ordered scallop and bacon roll and they were so kind to swap the brioche bun with sour dough. Very yummy and would love to come back for more!

I tried to eat at Partisan, but it was full. They recommended that I try their sister restaurant, Brancusi. I enjoyed lunch in this small eatery near mickelgate. The chicken shawarma was tasty and the service was good.

The service was very poor in my experience. Staff unhelpful, not attentive. Waited nearly 40 minutes before having to prompt staff to serve us. By this point another table had left, new guests, orders taken and drinks served. By time our food eventually arrived, drinks were still to be seen. Food was good though, otherwise would have given 1 star review due to rudeness of staff. Maybe it was a bad day?.. although, two separate groups were discussing the same thing about the service whilst exiting the premises. So at least it wasn't just us...

What a wonderful evening. Four of us met for dinner, we were welcomed by a member of the team all of which were relaxed, friendly & efficient. The service all evening was seamless. We drank delicious Organic wine with our meal which was on the whole a modern Italian menu. Everything we ate was elevated with delicious flavours all very welcomed. Our table had a mix of dietry requirements which were all met..excellent options for Vegan & Veggie. This is by far my favourite eating experience in York & ill be visiting again soon. We all felt it was good value for the high quality in a sumptuous & stylish setting Well done Brancusi, we will back, bringing more friends

What a wonderful restaurant, cannot recommend highly enough, so lucky to find this place on taking my mum to York for her birthday. The food was amazing and the staff so knowledgeable and happy to talk through Italian inspired food. The place has a great atmosphere and displays artwork from local artists. The owner is bubbly and took time to chat making the whole experience feel relaxed, definitely will be returning. Thank you

We had such a lovely breakfast at Brancusi this weekend - there were 16 of us, and we had our own room upstairs. The menu was great, so much choice, and the food was as impressive as it sounded! We’ll be back - thank you for looking after us so well ☺️

Brancusi is a fantastic restaurant with phenomenal coffee, food, service and atmosphere. We were in York for 3 weeks and went here nearly every day and they were so sweet in always making space for our big dog as well. In trying 90% of the menu and a fair amount of the pastries, I can SO happily recommend this place to everyone. Some repeat favorites were the scrambled eggs on toast with salmon (best I’ve ever had!), the caramelized chorizo on toast, the Palestinian chicken (SO FANTASTIC!!!) and the fig/goat cheese toasts. They really do no wrong and you’ll feel so at home in this bright, beautiful, fabulous restaurant.

Had a lovely dinner with friends on Friday night to celebrate multiple things. Beautiful venue full of local art, friendly, relaxed service, and amazing food- unfussy, delicious and creative. Beef short rib croquettes were a stand out, and my meat-loving husband fell in love with the vegan purple sprouting broccoli with cashew butter. My dish of wild mushrooms with butter bean mash was gorgeous (also vegan!) and our foodie friends were impressed by the rabbit ragu. Finished the dinner off with a lovely kumquat sorbet, the tiramisu (divine), and a few digestifs. Absolutely would return again. What a lovely addition to the Partisan family!
