Delicious food! I had the stone bass and carrots with dukkah. The fish was amazing and came with a tasty sauce. The only thing was the carrots didn’t have much flavour. Overall really great food though and the team were lovely.

Came here some time ago when it was the Rattle Owl. That was a good experience, but this has been even better. A short menu - always a good idea. Starters were excellent, although I thought they were small. Then the mains arrived: thank goodness for small starters! Good, different, interesting food. And wine choices for all palates & wallets.

Came here on recommendations and reviews for an early dinner and sorry to say not excited. To start with the positives were the great service, lovely puddings of choc mousse and apple crumble and the Rueda white wine was super. However, starters of anchovies were overpowered by a strong chilli's and the pork was average and the bed of smoked Leek puree not good. For mains we shared the monkfish tail which was OK but bit overcooked. The vegetables we had as sides were also disappointing, particularly the large plate of raw turnip covered with yoghurt. No way to pin down the menu but didn't work for me. Suspect great for the daily brunch offerings as that is where Partisan has always been superb.

Dog friendly, sauce on tap. Stunning little cafe that was very busy, lucky to get a table without booking. The food and drinks were outstanding. The full English was filling and worth the price. You’re paying for quality here and it doesn’t disappoint. Only downside was the waiting time for the food and drinks.

Popped in here as we were walking past. It was very busy but we were seated fairly quickly. We ordered 2 lattes and 2 full English breakfasts. The coffees were really lovely, totally reminded us of the coffees we had in Spain. We waited quite a while for our food but that happens when it's so busy. The food was amazing but we did find it on the pricey side. The staff were really friendly.

What a treat! We went to Brancusi for a family meal last Saturday. Even though the restaurant was full, service wasn’t delayed and we also weren’t felt rushed. Lovely attentive staff that made you feel welcome. The menu selection was very varied. The food was outstandingly delicious. I had pigs cheeks as the starter and monkfish main. The sides were a delight. Some of the best food I’ve had in a very long time. The restaurant decor is v subtle, and just the right amount of ambient light so you could easily read the menus. Will return on our next trip to York. 5 stars.

For a year, Brancusi was the restaurant in York that I was most desperate to try. And normally, this would set a person up for certain disappointment. After all, it's unlikely that after so much anticipation, Brancusi would then live up to the 'hype'. However, this is not one of those instances. This is one of those rare occasions when a person's lofty expectations have been met... My girlfriend and I had an early dinner at the restaurant one Friday in late August. It was perfectly quiet, which meant that we had the full attention of a very polite and chatty waitress. The inside of the building was tasteful. The back of the building had a glass ceiling, like a conservatory, but more upmarket. I also remember an apothecary cabinet set against one of the walls, laden with jars of preserves and pickled vegetables. Courtesy of the stunning interior and the attentive (but never pushy) service, we felt very peaceful at our little table. In stark comparison to the setting, the food at Brancusi is loud, strange, and (in some cases) completely outlandish. And I have to say, I am fully on board. To begin with, we had the pan-seared king scallops with charred peaches. It was light, delicate, and perfectly balanced. The rich meatiness of the scallops paired wonderfully with gentle, citrusy flavour of the peaches. We followed this up with the radicchio, which (in my opinion) was outright wacky. It somehow managed to be both sweet and savoury... Crispy, yet tender... I would have to say that it steered more towards the sweeter side, but I wouldn't call it a dessert by any means. In light of our earlier choice (with the charred peaches), we then transitioned to the roasted pork with roasted peaches. This was my girlfriend's favourite dish, out all those we tried. The crackling on the pork was as tough as leather, though it hid a beautifully tender cut of meat beneath. I think that when pairing pork with a fruit, your immediate instinct is to go for apples (pork with apple sauce, for example), so you fail to consider any of the alternatives. But I have to say, apples would have paled in comparison to the roasted peaches, which accompanied our pork. They were much tangier than the charred peaches from before, and they gave an interesting sweetness to the meat. Our final order at Brancusi was a crab fettuccine, which wasn't the best dish that we tried, but it was still exceptional. The pasta was served al dente and had a nice chewy texture. Whereas the crab was so flaky that it blended into the sauce, taking on a light, tomatoey flavour. Oh! And we also got a side plate of roast potatoes. They were pretty great, too. Overall, Brancusi lived up to my sky-high expectations and has become one of my favourite restaurants in York. I would especially recommend it for a date night.

Last weekend, I dined at Brancusi with friends for the first time, and it was truly exceptional. The restaurant is not only beautifully designed, but the staff are also incredibly friendly and welcoming. We started with some delicious cocktails, followed by scallops, lamb, and crab fettuccine, and finished with a selection of desserts. Every dish was outstanding—the quality of the ingredients reminded me of the food in Italy, and the chef was truly marvellous. We had previously enjoyed brunch there and loved everything on the menu, and this dinner has only confirmed that it will become one of our favourite places to eat in the future. For those interested in contemporary art, Brancusi has wonderful paintings adorning the walls, some of which are available for purchase.

Stunning! Sometimes you stumble upon a place that draws you in and you are so very thankful for it! Brancusi had me at…. “Hello” The service, the decor, the attention to detail and finally, but no way least… the food!! Absolutely amazing! Flavoursome, original taste combinations that just work!!! I had the scallop and bacon roll, it shouldn’t work… it did!! The quality of the food was of such a high standard, the price point was justified. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly. A true gem, well worth a visit!

GREAT place. Its sister of Partisan a few doors down - same menu and shared staff etc. basically same place. Food was excellent - had the full English, pancakes, and scallops breakfast between us. The homemade beans were great and everything was cooked really well. Coffees were so tasty - really had a distinctive flavour - some of the nicest I’ve had all weekend. Food options for all types of diet choices. Nice brunch cocktails too. Family and dog friendly. Exactly the kind of place we seek to go. My only slight feedback: the knives weren’t quite serrated enough to get through the sourdough crust. And a single (but extremely tasty) mushroom was disappointing for a £15.50 breakfast. Verging on feeling stingy on the plate.

This shop has the same menu as Partisan. I initially went to Partisan, but they asked if I was okay with going to another shop for the same menu, so I was brought here instead. The service was great though, with smiles all around. I ordered the creamy wild mushroom dish and an 82% dark chocolate drink. The drink wasn't on the menu, but it was available upon request when I asked if they had hot chocolate. The food tasted great, but I think it could be better with a slightly larger portion. It's hard to compare with another famous cafe just a few streets away, which also serves creamy wild mushrooms and dark chocolate. They taste similar, but if I were to order this combination again, I would lean towards the other place because of the larger portion.

We hadn’t booked but asked if a walk in table would be available, told yes but would need to leave in an hour. We were fine with this and chose and ordered within 5 mins of being seated. Drinks arrived after 15 mins, coffee was very nice. Orange juice was served in glasses that were 2/3 full, seemed very odd - would suggest filling the glass or using smaller glasses. After waiting 40 mins from ordering food finally arrived, at this point we had 13 mins until we were suppose to vacate the table. Began eating and found the food mixed, some items were enjoyable but the bread was very dry, didn’t receive any butter and the tempeh was very oily and had quite an unpleasant flavour. At £15.50 the vegetarian breakfast seemed very overpriced. Long waits are clearly an issue as other customers were querying how long their food would be.

Everything was excellent except I had to send my home made pappardelle back and have risotto instead. TBF they were perfectly willing to substitute but someone should tell them that fresh pasta should be tender. The pappardelle were leathery and excessively thick. I would be ashamed to serve up fresh pasta so clumsily made. If this is the best they can do they should just buy dried pasta.

After reading rave reviews about Partisanal we wanted to try the breakfast brunch but it was very busy so we directed to Bransconi which is the sister restaurant next door. Unfortunately our experience was less than great. We ordered the full english breakfast. The sourdough bread toast was obviously stale and very dry, even after exchanging for an untoasted slice it was still very dry. The fried eggs were burnt. The americano coffee arrived warm with cold milk, so it ended up being cold. We also ordered a "fruit scone" which was very dry and if it contained fruit at all it was dissected to a dust within the scone so couldn't tell if it was there or not. In conclusion UNDERWHELMING and expensive...we won't be going back...

Ushered into Brancusi after visiting its sister restaurant a few doors up, seated relatively quickly for a Saturday Brunch, service was prompt and attentive with always servers darting about, I ordered the full English, it was very average, they have tried to over complicate a very simple dish with homemade spicy baked beans and the Smokey sausage (which had a very strange texture) delivery and presentation of the food was excellent, however a tad on the pricy side for a full English. Not a bad place but if you’re wanting a traditional full English I would avoid this place

The service was very poor in my experience. Staff unhelpful, not attentive. Waited nearly 40 minutes before having to prompt staff to serve us. By this point another table had left, new guests, orders taken and drinks served. By time our food eventually arrived, drinks were still to be seen. Food was good though, otherwise would have given 1 star review due to rudeness of staff. The menu is identical to the partisan one expect each dish has had a price increase of one to two pounds. Not clear on why the prices differ between the two. The food was mediocre and the atmosphere didn't match up to its original site, it just felt stuffy. Super pricy for what it was and likely wont be back to either site after this experience. Extremely good! Very busy little establishment. Not many tables free. Two very polite and pleasant young men serving. I have to say, the Venezuelan hot chocolate was exquisite and one of the best in York. For those who follow my reviews, you will know that I am a bit of a hot choc "avocado" Ha ha! I was heading into town to a different establishment, but got lured in by the huge heap of meringues in the window - successful baiting of pedestrian ensued! All their baked products looked fab, from the wild garlic, olive oil and Cheddar scones to the yummy looking hot cross buns and the rather enticing rhubarb and orange scones. I have pondered quite a lot on how best to describe my experience. The menu needed a little explanation as some descriptions were a little unclear. The service was pleasant and efficient. The food was well cooked and tasted good but didn’t wow. The starter portion was meagre (a mere 6 whitebait) which left me wondering what the main would be like but to be fair the main was plenty. I can’t say I didn’t enjoy my experience but also wouldn’t rush back. It feels like the menu is trying too hard to be fancy, yet the meal itself does not wow. It’s just ordinary. Cost £50 per head for 2 courses and a couple of drinks and I didn’t feel it was £50 well spent. I had been to a different restaurant a few nights earlier and came away raving about the food having spent not much more. Underwhelming is probably my best description of my overall experience it’s trying a little too hard to be something but not sure what that something is.

2.5/5. Sadly, a rather disappointing experience here. I'll start off by saying, I resent greatly the "optional" 10% service charge. How is this an acceptable practice now? At no point were we given the opportunity to remove this charge from our bill. Really unhappy with that. Onto the rest. The menus sounded fine, although it wasn't very clear how the good menu worked, with no clear explanations for certain items (e.g., "Gildas"), nor how items should be combined for a full meal. The wine menu was disappointing. A decent variety of wine styles, but no vintages stated and missing details on some wines, such as the Grüner Veltliner. I had 2 glasses of wine, and neither wine was poured at the table, which is something I would expect from a good restaurant so I can check the bottle and it's condition. The food was tasty but nothing special. Nice bread and Gildas to start. Also shared the pheasant goujons which were also fine, but the breadcrumb coating lacked flavour and the sauce did not work in my opinion. I had the venison pie main course, and this was tasty enough but had several issues. Firstly, it was served in a totally bizarre way. A pie tray with angled sides, sat on a kitchen towel, itself on a tiny wooden board. Every time I tried to cut into the pie it wobbled and threatened to fall onto the table. Totally unacceptable way to serve food. I asked for a plate to put it on and the waitress brought me a cold plate. Had to ask again for a warm one. The pie was fine, as was the very small serving of red cabbage. The whole thing however was too dry and desperately needed a sauce. For desert I had the baked chocolate pudding. This was also disappointing. The pudding was barely baked (almost entirely liquid) and the amount of ice cream meagre. Apparently it was a newly adjusted recipe.... This made me feel more like a test subject rather than a customer. Now the biggest issue, the price. Simply too high for the amount of food and quality. 3 slices of bread with a tiny bit of oil to dip in, 6.50 (before service charge)? Are you serious? In summary, the food was fine but had many issues. The price was too high, made worse by the service charge, which was not made optional to us at any point by the waitress.

Very disappointing - flat atmosphere, almost no one in, average service (although they insist on a 10% service charge). Food was variable, starters were quite decent although expensive for what they were (lovely olives, but £4 for 4 olives!), two tiny slices of sourdough bread tasted a little stale for £4.50. Had the trout as a main which was fine but the brown crab hollandaise was quite clarty. My wife’s seasonal squash was lacking in seasoning. Sadly won’t be rushing back.

Lovely starters but the artichoke was a bit meagre for £8, two tiny toasts with an artichoke heart and a flower. Everything else was good but not exceptional. Wines were great and good value for today’s prices.

Really enjoyed our evening meal at Brancusi. There were 4 of us, and we shared a variety of dishes rather than just have one each. We particularly enjoyed the beef short ribs, pheasant goujons, seasonal gratin , then baked chocolate pot and frankincense ice cream (yes, you read that correctly!). All of these we agreed were 'outstanding'. The service from Dan & Abi was friendly and efficient. Overall we were very favourably impressed, and look forward to a second visit.

Dropped in for coffee but earmarked Brancusi for a return visit. The food coming out looked great and the breakfast/lunch menu had a lovely range of offerings. The staff were quick and friendly.

Great location in the centre of York but disappointing experience. Very expensively priced for meagre portions from a limited and slightly weird menu. The service was poor and yet 10% was added on to the bill. Won't be going back.

Popped in on a busy Saturday morning. Was first weekend of the Christmas market and a home match day for York City too, so very busy. Was fortunate not to have to wait for a table and there was a wheelchair user sat behind me, so accessibility doesn't seem to be an issue, despite the building retaining many period features. So, the food. My partner had the veggie breakfast and was happy with the quality of everything. All boxes ticked so far. I had something very special though. You know that moment in Pixar's Ratatouille, when the critic Ego has his first mouthful of Remy's dish? That happened to me. Apparently I kept making happy noises and mumbling "Oh my..." round mouthfuls of breakfast. I think my partner was becoming quite concerned that I'd lost my marbles. And that she'd picked the wrong breakfast. So, if you like a bit of spice to kick off the day, I cannot recommend enough, the very lovely caramelised chorizo on toast.

I’ve been a fan of Partisan and Jim’s Food Circle fan for some time so am perhaps biased, but this was genuinely one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. My choices - pheasant goujons, venison pie - were delicious, making excellent use of local produce, and the jam roly poly was a perfect version of a childhood favorite. The brilliant use of Food Circle veg and showcasing local producers is a bonus, as is the fact that you can eat more or less depending on budget. I look forward to returning again soon!

We felt as though the tables were far too close together and they had tried to fit too many people into a relatively small area. We didn’t find the service particularly good, the drinks took a while to come and no one explained the menu. The food was good but we wouldn’t come back. There are other places in York that would feel a lot more special for a similar price.

Really nice friendly lovely food - delicious with good (friendly) service. Couple of things I was less enthusiastic about but all in all a delightful meal with good inexpensive wine. Dessert wise the cremeaux was lovely but very filling!

Beautiful food so carefully and lovingly created. Seasonal gratin, beetroot tonnato and butternut squash the absolute standouts. We also enjoyed many of the special drink: fig and lemon spritz!

One of the very best York has to offer, it is such a flavour experience you just can't wait to go back again. The thought that has gone into the menu really shows and there wasn't a thing that we tried that didn't impress.

Service staff lovely but a little slow on admittedly an extremely busy night for them so down a star. Otherwise a really fab evening: imaginative and well balance menu with plenty to choose from, impeccably sourced. I particularly enjoyed the duck + plum starter and the Fennel, filled out with the halibut among other dishes. We over ordered but couldn’t resist the Campari sorbet (revelation) and staggered out of the place at closing time. Really great vibe, decently priced wine list, great location. We have already booked ahead as this place looks set be a hot ticket.

At Brancusi, Flo and Hugo offer what’s become their signature mix: good food in a laid back and artistic setting. But this time they’ve outdone themselves. Art and craftsmanship serve as perfect backdrop to a menu that’s assured, balanced, in season - sourced from local suppliers - and just plain delicious. With Flo and Hugo’s expertise, and the talented young Jim Gilroy heading the kitchen, it’s no surprise that only three days after opening, Brancusi was already packed and humming. Go try it as soon as you can. This welcoming place will become one of the most sought after dinner destinations in York and beyond.

I have bought 5 - 6 bikes from Cycle Heaven over the years. Their shops are awesome (especially Hospital Fields), offering a great selection of bikes and ebikes from some of the top brands, plus a wide range of accessories and clothing. The staff are fantastic - so knowledgeable and friendly too! Overall a brilliant experience, just how it should be :)
