What a lovely place this is. Nestled in a remote narrow valley, Plush is the village that time forgot. The Brace of Pheasants is a quintessential, ancient thatched inn with beams, low ceilings and bags of character. We had a great meal, lovely to see (and eat) game but the whole menu was well balanced and interesting. Food beautifully cooked and really tasty. Excellent choice of beers and wines and the draught bitter was delicious. Service friendly and very professional. Good parking beside the pub. This is what everyone imagines a pub in England should be like and for once, it is.

We happened to be in the area and as we hadn’t visited the Brace of Pheasants for many years we decided to pop in for a light lunch. The food, wine and service were all excellent in a calm and very pleasant atmosphere. We shared a starter of whitebait and then we both had moules frites, which came with a small side salad with a delicious home made dressing. The coffee to follow was good too. We will definitely be visiting again soon.

This is good food at its best. A friendly welcome and attentive service. The beer to start with was excellent and well looked after and came out of a keg on the bar not tap with lots of pipe work. Proper ale! The menu was fairly short but full of delicious choice for every palate and there was an even more appetising specials board. We ate smoked sea trout for starters, followed by Venison steak and Lamb rump both with beautifully cooked fresh vegetables and a tangy jus. We finished up with an elderflower liqueur panacotta with a berry coulis which was to die for. I could go back time and time again, so many good choices on the menu. This is a must visit! Thank you.

We have been visiting Dorset on and off for the past twenty years and the Brace of Pheasants has been recommended by several people but we haven’t managed to have a meal there until tonight. The wait was well worth it. We received a warm welcome and the food was absolutely delicious. As it was a very hot day I didn’t want a big meal so chose two starters; peri peri prawns with flat bread and a small dish of beetroot trout with pickled cucumber - both were delicious. My husband had chicken liver pate followed by beer-battered fish and chips which he said was the best he had ever tasted! We finished off our meal with the most divine white chocolate panna cotta with a berry coulis. Definitely worth a visit - we will be back!

Was recommended this place for dinner by our B&B host in Milton Abbas. Was expecting to see a pub sign so when we arrived initially we were not sure if it was open or if we had the right place. The metal pheasant silhouette on the wall gave it away eventually! We were offered a number of tables when we arrived and chose to sit in the old inglenook fireplace, although my 6 foot 4 partner had to duck a fair bit to get in :-) Lady that welcomed us was lovely. Starters were perfect (crab lemon tartlet and pate. Followed by peri peri chicken and rice salad and amazing pork. Both pleased with our meals.

We had our last-night dinner here having popped in for a quick beer after a walk. The server was really knowledgable about the local beers and couldn't have been more helpful about booking and recommending dishes. The pub is located in a tiny village, with few street lights and a no-though road so it does feel like you have to set out to find it - it really feels like a treasure you happen upon (unless you spot the sign on the main road!). Inside, it has a lot of traditional features and feels cosy but uncluttered. There's even a table for two in a large inglenook! We ate chicken liver pate and pigeon skewwers, venison steak and lamb rump. The Pub is very sympathetically decorated and is very cosy with numerous old photos of the property and the history of it. There is a garden in the back and adequate toilet facilities for the patrons. We were told they hold receptions for weddings. I enjoyed my light lunch and drink today. My wife and I had a night away thanks to a Groupon offer she spotted a few months ago. If you are after a traditional pub serving excellent cask conditioned beer and really tasty food in a rural sedate hamlet in deepest Dorset, then look no further. If you are a Thomas Hardy fan; well let your imagination run wild! We arrived on a wet and cold Friday afternoon in fading light and were greeted by the friendly and efficient bar tender, Lewis, who showed us our rooms upstairs. I tried the local brew, Giant's Head which I loved and in fact consumed 3 pints of it as it was just beautifully crafted (and how often can you walk upstairs to your room and not drive home!?) For our supper I had chicken pate and my wife had garlic mushrooms with cheese; delicious followed by lamb with mashed potato mixed with greens; my wife ordered falafel burger; both superb. To wind up the dinner I ordered cheese and oatmeal biscuits followed by a glass of Calvados. Breakfast was absolutely spot on with locally sourced sausages and bacon. Black Pudding was lovely. All the staff were very friendly and accommodating and it is so refreshing in this day of age to visit a place that has no corporate themes. We like it so much, we plan to visit again next year in the better weather.

Friday lunch before a walk around Cerne Abbas. The lady who greeted us was very helpful. Casks of local ales and ciders behind the bar which was a good sign. Nice selection of starters and mains on the menu; we went for the venison burger and trio of game sausages with mash. The burger came with lovely home cooked chips. We shared the cheese board (local cheeses) for dessert.A bit off the beaten track but worth the effort if you're in the area.

My wife and I had a lovely lunch in this old pub in the heart of some beautiful Dorset countryside. Our smoked chicken with blue vinney and madeira sauce was excellent. Very friendly service. Highly recommended and well worth the journey through the lanes.

We visited as a family of 4 (2 under 5's) with a friend on his recommendation for a lovely Sunday lunch. Whilst there was no children's menu, a half portion was offered and the Sunday roast of beef was devoured by the children. All the food was very tasty and a good sized portion. Puddings were also delicious and I felt like I didn't need to eat for a week afterwards. (We didn't try the starters.) The atmosphere is very pleasant with well behaved dogs littering the floor giving it a proper country pub feel. Most enjoyable. Thank you.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

We had dinner here one night and it was very good, although unless you like game (pheasant particularly) the menu is slightly limited and pretty typical of good pub food, wild boar sausages and mash, pork belly, fish and chips, etc. but cooked to a high standard. None of us ordered game and the dishes we did have were all really good, well cooked and full of flavour and large portions. The puddings were very good too and again more than enough. The caffetiere decaff was very good but unfortunately went cold quite quickly (my only, very minor, criticism). The ale was limited to Ringwood Best and Piddle on the night we visited, but there were plenty of other drinks on offer. We thought the prices were reasonable for the standard of cooking and the quality of the food and drink and service as the staff were excellent, friendly and welcoming but very efficient. Overall, we all enjoyed our meals and the relaxed and friendly ambience and will definitely return and would certainly recommend.

This was our 2nd visit in a year. Yet again the staff, food and rooms were amazing. The log fire and red wine made it a lovely relaxing break before the Christmas madness. We'll be back again...our home from home.

We seleted the Brace of Pheasnts for a stopover between Londn and Cornwall and we were not disappointed. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome and shown to a very pleasant room (5) in the pub. The bar was friendly and most of the 9 rooms in the pub were occupied, so dinner was a very friendly meal with good company. The food was excellent with a wide variety of local food. I had the venison kidneys and my wife the gravalax as starters and both were delicious and perfectly cooked. For main course we chose pheasant and fish pie respectively and once again we were not disappointed. The local cheeses were excellent and my wife enjoyed the chocolate pudding. There was a good selection of wines to suit most tastes and also local beer in barrels behind the bar. A fantatsic find and it will not be long before we return for a longer stay.

Sunday lunch was not very good. Waiter ate food and drank at the bar constantly. Emptied bins and didn't wash his hands. Chef sat at the bar in between orders. Food arrived and was tasteless, meat tough and when asked for cranberry sauce the waiter arrived with a plastic tub to serve it!

A small hidden Cafe hidden down a side alleyway, delivers a big smile through it's food and warm welcoming hosts. They make delicious salads, homemade crustless quiche, large saucer style macaroons, homemade sausage rolls and vege rolls. It's the only place in Dorchester that i feel the food is good for you, cooked on the spot there that day, great coffee and choice of tea's etc. Seating is limited and very sadly due to it's size of premises maybe closed due to Covid, please double check. They have worked so hard and deserve all our support
