Box Tree in Bradford

This restaurant has been highly rated for over 50 years. and is almost on my doorstep, yet I'd never visited. This was due to finances back in the day, but recently, I've just seemed to never consider it. Which is crazy as it's the closest Michelin star rated restaurant to my home. Anyway, I finally decided to try it as a Xmas present for my wife last year. We went for Sunday lunch and it was first class. They elevated a standard weekly event of Sunday roast into a brilliant meal that had elements of a roast but felt like so much more. We will be back. I understand it's had some renovations since my visit

Finally able to dine at TheBox Tree and it did not disappoint. From arrival to departure the service was excellent, always attentive but never intrusive. The food exceeded our expectations it was a pleasure to share the gastronomic pleasures so ably created by the Head Chef and his team. Thank you for shari g your talents with us, we look forward to returning in the near future.

Fabulous, as always. In fact this visit was the most wonderful we think. Every course was beautiful, both taste wise and visually, each one was different from all the others. Thank You to all the staff who ensure we are welcomed and treated to nothing but the best every time we visit.

Everything was exceptional, food, wine, service and ambience. Couldn’t ask for anything more apart from wish it was nearer!

Its been 10 yrs since we were here and still amazing. Service outstanding really relaxed atmosphere the only thing we wouldn't say didn't like but desserts could of been better. All in all 9/10 Thanks again we had a really lovely time.

Throughly enjoyed our lunch at the Box Tree restaurant yesterday. The food was first class , staff attentive but unobtrusive. The staff were very knowledgable about the dishes that were on the menu. Have never been disappointed with a meal here just wish it was a little nearer to where we live. Overall excellent value.

We booked months in advance for a 30th wedding anniversary and indicated a dairy intolerance when booking. The Box Tree rung us a week before the date to say they do not cater for dairy intolerance or allergy. So we had to cancel. I find this unbelievable in a restaurant aiming for a Michelin star, given that the vast majority of restaurants can manage!

What an absolutely fabulous evening me and Jean had last night the food is delicious the staff are so welcoming and friendly and so professional and knowledgable of the food which was excellent GREAT value for a special treat loved every course and just wished we had thanked the chef and kitchen team in person Chris was so welcoming and was a pleasure to meet him and his team also Dillon was very knowledgeable and helpful we will definitely be back soon many thanks to all John

Despite giving a week's notice, The Box Tree is unable to produce a meal for someone with a dairy intolerance. Unbelievable given the standard this restaurant is aiming for!

Great Sunday lunch. Thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish.

The Box Tree provides a special experience. Yesterday, it was a voyage through the many dimensions of taste. It started with velvety snacks including an indulgent parmesan custard and a bread course with carefully balanced butters. We particularly loved the vegemite one, full of flavor without the unpleasant sharpness of vegemite. We were then transported to the salty realm with the starters, agnolotti of ricotta with lemon seasoned with a bacon reduction and truffle. This was a great transition as the dish carried a similar smoothness to that of the earlier dishes. The mains brought distinct umami flavors, and the guinea fowl stood out as a favorite. We loved how tender and homogeneous it was, the magnificent pairing with the hen of the woods and the garlic emulsion. We even overheard other tables profusely commenting on the dish. Optional dishes of lobster and wagyu beef were also available, the latter being another spectacular success, served with an oyster tempura and a fantastically contasting calamansi (citrus) emulsion. The desserts brought us back from the umami world with a more neutral raspberry trifle with tonka beans, adding unusual exotic flavors. It was followed by a strawberry mousse contained in a thin chocolate sphere and seasoned with a strawberry sauce and lemon oil. This dish was another standout featuring a complex interplay between sweet and sour. On we went to the sweet realm with a chocolate mille-feuille accompanied with a delicious fig leaf ice cream, followed by a tonka bean, prune and Armagnac macaron before concluding with the bitterness of a coffee. On top of the gastronomic adventure, the service at the Box Tree is excellent and we were provided with great alternatives where allergies were involved. There is no wonder why this restaurant has such an illustrious and long history. I look forward to my next visit

Sunday lunch to celebrate two family birthdays, Birthday cards for us both,a lovely touch.The food came in little dishes of delightful tasters, the main course of aged roast beef,with a selection of vegetables and potatoes were to die for, followed by a selection of exquisite puddings.The service was excellent, with a detailed explanation of all the course's.Fine dining at its best, definitely will go back.

Boxing Gold! Having been occasional diners at the Box Tree since 1970, we have seen this terrific restaurant go through various iterations from being one of the countries finest stand out Stars to quirky (Madame Avis) and providing just about passable fine dining along with with variable staff. Last night we went back after a year or two's absence via the pandemic etc. and we are glad to say that from the outset the staff were superbly welcoming, professional, knowledgeable and friendly and the kitchen brigade under their new head chef produced an absolute gold medal performance on every course. The snacks were superbly tasty, a delicious custard of Parmesan, a dainty chicken liver parfait and a to die for cheese on toast with multiple layers of flavour. The two savouries following were knock out brilliant and the Guinea fowl main with a, these days rarely tasted, Madeira jus was outstanding. Desserts and cheese were delicious, perfectly sized and, with the super choice of wines in the wine flight, completed a foodie bout of Olympic Gold medal excellence. Congratulations to the Box Tree staff for getting back off the canvas and aiming for the stars!! You're all a knockout success.

Came here with a group of friends from my golf club for a set menu lunch. Every course was packed with flavour and absolutely delicious. The highlight for me was the cherry soufflé. Some people thought the portion size was a little small, but it did mean we had room for all three courses.

What a fabulous experience from start to finish. I visited the Box Tree for the lunchtime tasting menu with a dear old friend. The set tasting menu was simply delicious, like opening a variety of gifts each time the next course arrived. It was fresh, locally sourced, innovative and exciting. The portions were perfectly sized, and left us full, without being overloaded. The staff were kind, graceful, enthusiastic & attentive. We have visited The Box Tree a number of times over the years and have yet to be disappointed. The atmosphere is very relaxing - low ceilings, comfortable seating, and gentle music. The staff are welcoming, friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. The current tasting menu is excellent, with a fascinating range of flavours and combinations and all prepared with top quality ingredients. And Didier's wine pairings are as interesting as ever! in summary, an excellent evening.

Husband and I visited here last week and the food and service was exceptional would book again for sure.

Quite possibly one of the best meals we have ever eaten and certainly the best at The Box Tree. The food from the new chef is exciting and bursting with incredible flavours. The food was extraordinary, with each dish meticulously crafted and harmonizing beautifully with the others. Beautifully presented and delicious food - every mouthful was a delight. The service was friendly & excellent as was the ambience.

Be under no illusion that that The Box Tree are catapulting themselves towards earning back the Michelin star. Every dish served was exemplary, finished with flair and finesse. I didn't want the evening to end. Chef Brayden should be incredibly proud. I don't think we have ever tasted such rich, complimentary flavoured food. And, to draw on his Australian heritage - wow (I think my photo speaks for itself!). Thank you for bringing the Down Under to Up North. My partner and I were blown away. The service: unwavering, faultless & regimented. Polite, courteous and not over-bearing as some Michelin's can be. The atmosphere was perfectly intimate, music well maintained and well suited; the smells from the kitchen had us chomping at the bit. My partner and I simply cannot wait to visit again, we are so excited to see what The Box Tree have in store for us next. Thank you for making our trip to Yorkshire a memorable one!

After booking a meal at the box tree months in advance for a special occasion mentioning a dairy allergy, the box tree call a week before to cancel and stating they can not adjust the menu. Understandable as it is a set menu. However this should of been stated on arranging the reservation rather than a week before and suggest that I should just take tablets to help. Massive disappointment as we have been before years ago and this was not a problem then. Now leaving myself to arrange a special occasion on short notice.

First impressions excellent, the staff and the relaxed, welcoming but professional approach and attention to getting us sat down with a drink and a menu. We went for Sunday lunch, the snacks, the starters (goats curd) were absolutely first class. The wing rib was perfect, and everything that came with it, apart from and this is where things started to go wrong…the Yorkshire pudding which was so over cooked that it was difficult to cut through the bottom, this is unforgivable for a restaurant with the history and aspirations that they have. Broccoli was also way too wet and over cooked in my opinion. The course was still incredibly enjoyable due in main to the beef and the impeccable red wine sauce. Pre desert and desert were beautiful, especially the trifle. Lasting impression is we will return and try a different days menu as I believe without the two disappointments described above the food was outstanding, the wine perfectly kept and the staff excellent.

First time since the new chef has taken over. It was amazing, exciting food and the service as always was excellent, such a friendly team. We’ve been going to the Box Tree for nearly 30 years and the food has always been great, but the new chef has introduced a more contemporary menu, with an interesting range of flavours and textures. We would highly recommend The Box Tree.

We had the pleasure of having a dining experience here for my partners birthday. Staff were very pleasent and fun and we found the place to not be as pretentious as other awarded resteraunts. Food was incredible as were the cocktails. Also for an almost 3 hour experience price was very reasonable. Will deffo be coming again.

The food, service and restaurant were absolutely outstanding. We were offered drinks in a seating area before being shown to our table. The food was exquisitely presented and eloquently described by staff. Our glasses were topped up without having to ask. We thoroughly enjoyed everything. I have been twice before but thought the ambience, food & staff were better this time. Would highly recommend The Box Tree for that special occasion. I think that staff and the way the food tasted/presented made a truly exceptional experience.

New menu initially a bit apprehensive but standards absolutely first class. A wonderful dining experience in every way. Just one small reservation. The soufflé was missing from the menu. A signature dish of the Box Tree for so long and one of the reasons we fell in love with the Box Tree years ago.

Whatever chef Brado and the team did has given the Box Tree a fresh new menu and a higher standard than before. Having eaten there since he has taken over, there is an obvious increase in quality. The new dishes are bolder with an air of confidence from the new head chef and his kitchen. Front of house the service is excellent and the sommelier knowledgeable and happy to give his recommendations. Waiting staff were pleasant and professional. Location of restaurant means no on site parking but the main town car park is to the rear of restaurant with a 1 min walk. With a constantly evolving menu there will always be a reason to go back.

Amazing experience!! We loved everything about our evening at the Box tree, from the homely warm and welcoming feel, the professional and knowledgable staff, and the amazing food and drink. The tasting menu and wine pairings blew us away. The menu becomes your meal, entertainment and talking point. Although every course was amazing, our special mentions would go to the crab and tomato brioche with the tomato consommés, BBQ langoustine, agnolotti of local goat's curd and Yorkshire ricotta, forced rhubarb. We had the tasting menu with sommelier’s choice of wines to complement the dishes. The food and the service was outstanding. The restaurant has character and great ambience. Our only criticism was the cost of the 4 tasting glasses of wine. £70 was a high price for such a small amount of wine. We wouldn’t choose that option another time. It didn’t detract from the whole experience though. Just loved it.

What you would expect from this amazing chef and his team

We have never had a tasting menu before and we’re a little apprehensive. However we had no need to worry. Each course was a delight and was fully explained. We had been in the Savoy Grill a couple of weeks before and my wife preferred the Box Tree, the Savoy was excellent so to outdo that is recommendation beyond compare.

The standard of service and ambience were excellent. Apart from the main course all the food was very good. The main course was lukewarm at best which we told the waitress when asked. The Manager discussed our concerns at length and made a reduction on the final bill. We would go again as overall it was a good experience and we are willing to accept this was not their usual standard.

Myself and my husband had a fantastic time visiting the Box Tree. We were made to feel very welcome by all of the staff who all gave outstanding customer service. Every single member of staff were friendly, welcoming and attended to our every need. We could not fault the service or food. Thank you very much to all.

Absolutely amazing service, good and overall experience. Was made to feel special from start to finish. We told the waiter it was my husbands 41st birthday and 10mins later he was presented with birthday card, personalised with his name and 41st inside! I mean how incredible! It’s touches like this that make the experience even more memorable. Will definitely be returning.

This restaurant has managed to remain unchanged in its appearance for over 40 years! It’s a wonderful period piece but with a very up to date set menu which managed to please a picky octogenarian and her slightly younger children. The food tastes delicious and the wine list is good value too.

Ignore those who say it isn’t what it was in years gone by - all 4 of us were blown away by the set lunch menu. The total amount of food was perfect and the variety of tastes and textures superb. The menu is much more contemporary now, exactly what we want. The service was faultless and not at all intrusive. We can’t wait to go back. Don’t hesitate.

The food was as good as the waiters and the chef cook were attentive to make sure that the meal was taylored to our intolerance and our requests. Cosy and full of character the restaurant is truly full of charms. The full experience was above our expertation, and we hope to have the opponutiny to come back.

As aways the Boxtree never disappoints. The service and food are exceptional. We went for Sunday Lunch. The atmosphere is a little more relaxed with music playing mudic ftom 50s to 80s at a level that isn't intrusive. However one bizarre carol came on!! Although it is fine dining, it is also very welcoming and not over formal at lunchtime. As you'd expect, you pay a little more for the exceptional service. One minor drawback, being disabled and having the toilets upstairs was a challenge, but this is a very minor concern for most people.

Food was overall good but very variable. Souffle, velouté, lemon meringue were all excellent. Some of the other dishes were average at best. In particular the fish was over cooked. Worst however was the timing, we waited about 30 minutes between courses and eventually (despite delaying the taxi by 30 minutes) 3 of us had to leave halfway through dessert. We mentioned this to the staff but at no point was an apology offered nor did a senior staff person turn up to resolve. We have been to the Box Tree on and off over 30 years and this was by far the worst experience. The wines were good though :)

Spent Christmas eve in this wonderful place , wonderful friendly service, we had the Taster Menu every course was explained to us by the Waiter or Waitresses an eye was kept on us every minute making sure we had drinks or water at all times. Every course well cooked and served with style. Nice selection of Christmas music playing in the back ground. Thank you all for making it a wonderful experience. Just been back for Christmas Day Lunch wonderful food lovely staff excellent service thank you very much a Christmas to remember.

Stunning food in a beautiful setting, nothing too much trouble and catered for a gluten free diner with no fuss.

The tasting menu has become ridiculously small . We had one scallop as a course and the “main “ course was a tiny piece of beef and one tiny potato . I have been going to the Box tree for nearly 20 years and I’m thinking I won’t go again . Dress code and ambience not what it used to be . Time to get a grip
